Is poppy is very nice and clean good breakfast and the location is excellent 5 minutes from the Subway
Stays at 2/F, facing the street, noisy from 8am - 10pm. Room is small if you have 2 large luggages.
Nice and comfortable
First time there and all good. Room size is rather compact considering all the must-haves available in the room, but nicely done and comfortable. Service crew are attentive. Location is great. Good experience.
Stayed there in the last leg of our trip in China, It really wrapped up our awesome experience. Staff were really awesome and helpful, went beyond normal hospitality in helping us getting our taxi. Location wise is good, next to Nanjing Pedestrian Street and the metro exit. Walking distance to the Bund too. Lots of food option from local to international choices around the hotel. Really wish we could have stayed longer there.
It was in a good location. Easy to get around the tourist areas and to view the Bund. Though in the room we could have had air conditioning. All we had was a fan and if you open the window you can hear the noise from the street till 2 am. Other than that is was satisfactory.
Clean rooms, fast service in a good location near local shopping
Great hotel!!
Great location.Short walk to Nanjing Road shopping and Nanjing East Metro Station.10 minute walk to the Bund. Look it up on Google maps.Rooms are modern and well maintained. Ice cold a/c and unlimited bottled water. Essential if you visit in the summer.Staff is attentive and friendly.
Great hotel great location. Skip breakfast option if you like western style breakfasts. You can take subway from airport direct and close to old town and all tourist sites that are within walking distance. Very friendly staff.
Great, convenient accomodation
Pleasant stay and highly recommended.
Location near shops restaurants and metro station. Easy walk to bund.
Conveniently located in Nanjing Road
Rooms are a little bit small, and my husband and I were encouraged to upgrade our room for 188 RMB (including breakfast for two). The room was beautifully styled, the bed was very comfortable, and the shower was hot. Breakfast was buffet style, and had a really good mix of Western and Chinese options. There is also an egg station. It is very conveniently located in Nanjing Road shopping area (but bear in mind that this that mean that you can hear the hustle and bustle of the city), and is within walking distance to The Bund.
Nice, reasonable stay
The location was the best, very close from subway station. A little bit noisy at night, the street was always full of people, but it was fine. Overall it was quite nice.
Less than 5 mins walk to metro and walkable dist to the bund. Lots of eatery and shopping nearby. Except that the hotel is a bit old...
Don't bother to pay up for better room
I booked and paid in advance for an "ultra classy" room for me, my son and brother. Travelocity site described it: Double Room (Ultra Sassy) 2 King Beds Room sleeps 3 guests We arrived at 1500, so this was not a situation of checking in late. Were told immediately that Travelocity made mistake - they don't have any rooms with 2 kings. I was shown a standard room with single queen that could squeeze in a cot. We had a lot of luggage so I really wasn't into going somewhere else. We made the best of it but it was disappointing. No apology, no offer to reduce the extra charge I paid - only an offer of "discounted breakfast" which we declined. Otherwise it's a nice hotel, but I recommend only booking the lowest room, and then when you arrive checking out paying up for bigger room.
Solid option
Good clean Western quality hotel a block from the subway entrance. Safe location.
Excellent location, fair service.
Location is excellent near to a lot of shopping. Customer service are not up to mark. Lots of inexperienced staff. Middle of the night. Air-conditioning blew hot air and was told by duty person that is not the country season for air conditioning. Next day night, air conditioning were blowing cool air. Tells a lot of the kind of service to expect. Generally fair condition.
Close to Nanjing Rd
This hotel is in a good position, very close to nanjing road!!! The only bad thing about this hotel is the bed was so hard, i couldn't sleep!!! But everything else is a must!!! Train Station is close, mini market, nanjing rd, restaurants all in walking distance. Lots of small restaurant just right in front of the hotel. Too bad i only stayed for one day.
No-frills hotel
This is a no-frills hotel. The front desk clerks are not very friendly but did they job. Not very accomodating, but not rude either. Overall, a "comfortable enough" stay. Nice looking outside and lobby, but rooms are very simple, with poor ventilation. If you open the windows, there is an ugly smell of cooking and more from the neighborhood. The airconditioner is not the best. The bathroom had some mold, and is not in the best maintenance. The carpet had some stains. The bed was HARD, as they are supposed to be in all of China. Ask for room on 4th floor and up. We ended up using the room only to sleep, as we would leave to go sightseeing early in the morning and come back late at night to sleep. So the room served its purpose, especially because of the low price. If you plan on spending much time in the room, better go to another hotel. The best thing about the hotel was its close proximity to Nanjing pedestrian road, just about 100 feet away, down the rundown street where the hotel is. Also, the subway is about 150 feet away from the hotel and in Shanghai the subway is very efficient and cheap.
Nanjing Hotel - Shanghai
I was a lone traveller in Shanghai for 3 days after a business trip in Nanjing. I booked this hotel as it was cheap and I am expecting myself out in the street most of the time. - Small Room, carpet was old. Room cartered to my basic. Found the lighting was quite dim. - TV with many Chinese programmes - Internet charge at 0.1RMB per min but cap at 20 RMB for 24 hours (12pm-1159am next day). - Staff was helpful since I was able to communicate with them in Chinese. - 2 problems encountered during my stay, window lock damaged when i inspect the room and door lock broke down on my 2nd & 3rd day. Both were resolved immediately. - Very convenient location, 2 min walk to East Nanjing Station and Nanjing street. 10 min walk to the Bund. There was a convenient store just opposite the hotel and MacDonald/KFC along Nanjing Road for Breakfast. - Always ask for higher floor. I was staying at low 4th floor and my room view was the dirty ceiling of outside buildings. Did not open the windows since the aircondition was working well. When I checked out on the 13 Jul, overheard that the hotel was fully booked till 24 Jul. Overall stay was expected due to the cost and definitely will be staying next time if I am not with my family.
Get the directions right!
There aré 2 streets named the same ( shanxi) You want the one that is near nanjing road or the people's square subway station. They told me that a lot of people gets to the wrong street (I did)
Bed is WAY TOO HARD!! You won't get a good night's rest. Location & staff was great though.
Hotel was in a great great location. Nanjing Rd was our backyard, Metro is a leisurely stroll away. Typical 2 star hotel, clean, no fuss, no luxury. Staff was great and spoke english! Better English than most places in Shanghai. But the bed was way too hard!! It ruined my stay because I could not get a good night's rest. I will stay in a better hotel w/ MUCH softer beds next time.
NO air conditioning at night
Well located, but the air condition was turned off at night (we stayed there in May); they asked us to open the window, but the street was noisy and smelled bad.
Nanjing Hotel Shanghai
The Nanjing Hotel is in an excellent location. We walked everywhere (so many people though) The hotel itself is very old. I think it was built in 1936. It could definetely do with a makeover. The room was quite big, but the bathroom was very dark and the toilet was so low to the ground, it felt like sitting on a camping toilet. The room was quite stuffy and when we complained that the air conditioner was not working, we were told that the Chinese Government does not allow the use of air conditioners unless the temperature is above 28c. We didnt have this problem in Beijing, Xian or Chengdu, so maybe the law applies to Shanghai only!!!!!! The location of the hotel couldnt be better. So many places to eat and shop, right near the underground station and walking distance to the Bund. The ferry takes you across to the Pudong side and it was so cheap. The staff at the front desk didnt smile much and some had difficulty with the english language. Having said that I suppose it wouldnt hurt for us to learn a little of their language, and then maybe communication wouldnt be so difficult.
JUST TO SLEEP AND FORGET ABOUT THE HOTEL STAFF
The hotel location is very convenient to all exclussive shopping area and side seeing. Muslim food is difficult to find around this area. The hotel staff is noso curtiest. recommend if you you just want to sleep and go out for shopping. Thanks
Great room for the money
The hotel couldn't have been in a better location. Convienent to shopping, restaurants and only 1 block to metro. The staff could have been a little more friendly, but i think it was because they spoke very little English. Will stay there again.
So-so hotel
Very good location. Not very clean. Kind of wear out. Staff is unfriendly but not rude. Okay for short stay and spend most of the time outside.
Convenient location but unfriendly staff
This hotel is located conveniently near the Bund and right next to a subway station and and a big shopping area. The rooms were clean and bathroom worked just fine. We liked the hotel just fine but only one complaint: Nothing we could do to crack a smile out of the people who worked at the front desk. I've stayed at MANY different hotels of all levels in China and never have I encountered such unfriendly staff. I must say I was kinda surprised that it happened in such a cosmopolitan and service-oriented place. And I know it wasn't a language issue because I am Chinese myself. I would not stay there again because of that, for the same money you can go to just about anywhere in China and get more pleasant service.
Great Location!!! Below average room...
The room was decent size by asian standards, but was not really clean. The beds were small and very hard. The location was amazing. We could walk out of the hotel and 50 feet and be in one of the coolest area's in Shanghai. We easily walked to the Bund and the Metro station was right outside. It's great if you want to see the sights, but don't plan on sleeping well.
Good and clean but noisy
The hotel is in good condition and the room was clean and spacious (I stayed in a deluxe twin). The only downside, which was a sizeable one, was the complete lack of sound-proofing. My room faced the Street (Shanxi St.) which was noisy until late at night, and made my stay less relaxing. Try asking for a room not facing the street (but I'm not sure if those would be any better). Otherwise, the hotel is in a SUPER convenient location for sight-seeing, and I was happy with it.
Yes
Very decent priced 3 star hotel, great location only 2 mins walk from Nanjing East station on the green line which is great for getting to other attractions around Shanghai. Room condition pretty good for the price, a little small but clean and well maintained. Recommend it to anyone who is planning a trip to Shanghai for a few days.
Hotels.com
Happy to stay in this hotel
Very clean hotel, near Nanjing road (main shopping street), staffs very nice, they offers better deal for breakfast than they announced on the web (just ask).

Night time building works
Everything about the hotel itself was great. Clean and comfortable. However on one of the nights we slept only around 3 hours due to building work outside the window from 1am-4am. We asked to be moved rooms and were offered a room a couple of doors down facing the same way. Granted the building works weren't to do with the hotel itself but it tainted an otherwise great trip.
