For a old building. Was plesant
It was cleaned to an ok standard but is in need of updating. The restaurant is very slow service with below average food and high prices but the breakfast is really good. The service is awful!! 24 hour reception took 27 calls prior to answering and was then told to come to reception to collect extra coffee/sugar because only one staff on duty. Check in and check was simple and efficient using self check in. Far too highly priced even for NYE for condition and service levels.
The most disappointing thing about our stay was that they had acknowledged my request for adjoining rooms, as I was travelling with my elderly mum, back in August. Turning up for check-in I'm told by the manager that they'd overbooked and we could either have cheaper adjoining rooms with no balcony, or 2 separate rooms with balconies. I would think that once the hotel acknowledges your request for a specific room type, they would then reserve it for you. If it's the case where they're unable to reserve the room, then at the very least to inform us prior to arrival that they can't honour the request. After a heated exchange with the manager who decided that my 73 year old mum was accusing him of cheating us, to which he threatened to cancel our booking altogether, I de-escalated the situation, with him finally upgrading our rooms to King with balconies side by side and free breakfasts. So although the solution was favourable to us in the end, it was unfortunate to have travelled all the way we did to encounter this issue on check-in. It did leave a sour taste when having any interaction with the staff. The rooms themselves were dated and in need of renovations. Stains in the toilet, a constantly running cistern, a quarter panel bathtub shower which sprayed water everywhere. The balcony door was broken and unable to be locked. The air conditioner had a mind of its own and was either freezing cold or blowing hot air. Housekeeping didn't replace used coffee cups. The list goes on
The rooms are not clean enough, good location but expensive parking
Excellent location
Great place
Convenient
Great location, just an old property with limited parking spaces.
Comfortable and clean
We had a one night stay - the staff were friendly, check in was easy, the cafe/restaurant made great coffee! The bathroom was old style, but clean, the bed was super comfy. Our room looked across to a park.
What you need
A convenient place to stay in the Perth CBD. The service was great at accommodating my requests. Would stay there again.
No parking available for all guests Room Service was 1.5 hours late Room smelled of bleach Elevator smelled of smoke Just an awful experience overall Will never return
Friendly staff and standard late check out was great
Affordable convenient position in many interesting eateries and malls staff willing to help and smiling , nice place to stay
Great overnight stay . I didnt like the mirror facing the bed
Wonderful breakfast, great staff. Delightful stay. Thank you to Shirley and the team.
Close to town, parking was good in house dining was excellent
No parking available (unless you te the first guess) and it is not free 34 aud a night!!! Room was clean, bit again like everywhere in Western Australia: OUTDATED! If you wanna have a normal room like the ones in Europe or The US .... how much do you have to pay?....400 dollars a night?! Australia: overrated!....
It was very convenient for the family court. Also great food from the restaurant delivered to the room.
Dirtiest hotel room I’ve ever been in
Room had old food in the fridge and dirty towels in the bathroom
Comfortable stay in nice room. Be happy to have same view next stay.
I would suggest to go improve the following, food choices for breakfast bed to be more main choice not slapped together food Hot water system needs to be updated waiting 15mins for a hot shower is not ideal Update the rooms they are very out dated
Definitely not 4 Star! On the positive side the breakfast was terrific.
Great location friendly staff
All good, no issues.
No air conditioning in rooms . Room service and house keeping was ordinary
It needs a make over, the room wasn’t clean and bathroom old and taps were hanging off and fell off each time you turned them on.
Casual but friendly staff. Clean and basic facilities.
Fridge door was frozen open (Ice box needed defrosting), strong smelling & dirty. Overall experience was poor.
Central Stay
Check in was guided Self Service and i checked out myself. My double bed was huge, clean and room was spacious. Big Bathroom with good warm water shower and amenities. The breakfast included was delicious and provided variety of cooked and fresh fruit, pastries etc. I had a wonderful view of St Mary's Cathedral and the Perth Hospital from my 9th floor balcony and window. Mercure on Hay is very central to all the sights and can walk there.
Great location, great service, friendly staff, great facilities. Enjoyed our shirt stay.
Only one lounge chair in room and no coffee table. There was plenty of room to put there. The self service checkin and checkout was impersonal. Limited dining choice was disappointing.
The food was great, excellent service by staff members.
The room we were in was noisy day and night. The room backed onto the lift. We could hear the lift going up and down.
No parking... breakfast is always the same every single day, . Not much toiletries ... staff wasn't much accomodating ..
Clean, safe and very professional
not up to the photos - try the Western across the road, older and very average upkeep
Room was shabby but clean. Bed was very comfortable. Shower pressure was amazing. Even though there was a chromecast attached to the TV, and it said that it was available to use, I was told "none of them work and haven't in a long time." We were provided with one very small container of milk, and when I requested a few more, I was told "no, thats too much, I can give you 2." We drink a lot of coffee so ended up having to buy our own milk. We also ordered room service. We ordered 2 ham and cheese croissants and after an hour I called to see how long theyd be. I was told "oh sorry, we only have 1 croissant. Can I give you a toasted sandwich instead?" I said yes, but the sandwich is cheaper by $4 (as stated on the online menu) and was then told "oh its still a good price madam, its OK." When it arrived our dinner was barely toasted and the toasted sandwich was cold in the middle. We were charged $9 for each of the items (even though it stated the sandwich was $5), plus a $5 )room service fee. It took almost 1.5 hours and was cold. I was really looking forward to this getaway, it was for my birthday and the first time my partner and I had time away from the kids in a long time. We were left disappointed with our 2 night stay.
Trouble with TV remote I realised it worked as long as I pressed red button for at least 20 seconds!
quite disappointed. foyer, resteraunt and staff were all quite nice and looked good. dirty wine glass outside my room for duaration of stay, room not properly cleaned, taps broken out from wall in shower. really loud echos from the street coming upto my room disturbing sleep.
Great location and super friendly staff. Property is showing signs of age and is in need of upgrade in some areas. Our room had only one lounge chair, and it was stained. Curtain also stained, and the bathroom needed some attention. Room size was very generous, and we enjoyed our breakfasts.
The staff are excellent and extremely helpful even going out of their way to bring things to my room instead of me having to go down to reception and checking with me if I wanted housekeeping or anything that I needed as they were aware that I had infants- Thank you very much for going the extra mile and making my stay much more comfortable.
The Mercure Perth on Hay is conveniently located and reasonably price.
Third time staying here a great place to stay for a night when have something on in perth to see. One of only few hotels that have a private balcony adjoin to room. Basic hotel but always clean and safe very friendly. Love the self check in check out it makes it so much quicker.
We are enjoying our time at Mercure On Hay Perth ..
The hotel is extremely tired. For the price I paid for a superior room and the quality of the room I was given is actually unacceptable. I took many photos of the room. So many issues that are really not right. The staff were lovely and apologetic but there was nothing they could do to make my stay more comfortable. Do not recommend this hotel. I recommend the hotel invest in making the property habitable!
Australia trip
This was a overnight stay after travelling back to Perth from Nannup visiting family. The only thing I found that didn't make it five stars was the housing the fridge was in didn't look clean inside also the air-conditioning was quite noisy. The staff were very helpful and l would stay again the next time l come over to Perth
I guess it was value for money but it is very run down. And not in the best area in the city of Perth. Felt a little unsafe.
Very easy check-in and well located
Second time staying here just for a night from home good budget hotel with balcony and street view staff friendly and hotel itself is well kept for its age can’t control room temperature in own room and time to time hear movements next door
Reasonable sized rooms, could do with a refit
15 minute walk from the central train station or half that from the rail replacement bus stop I had to use. Avoid routes via the Cathedral if you don't like climbing hills then coming back down again with luggage. Check in quick. Room a bit dated and though large had a lot of empty space. Tea / Coffee provided as well as ironing, fridge, hair drier, USB points, desk and wardrobes. Bathroom a bit small. Was able to store luggage on final day and there are various facilities on the ground floor. No issues with wifi, mainly quiet though doesn't pay to be near the lifts. A bit away from the center of things and a bit up a hill. Has near by supermarkets and convenience stores to pick from. Reasonable sized rooms but basic - in need of refitting
We like staying here as its central and close to most places. We like friendly staff at the hotel and check in is quick. Our room is clean and has all that we need to stay for a couple of nights when we visit family in Perth. What is a nuisance is the parking but we heard its being upgraded.
Comfortable, staff great. Good size room Decor awful Don’t like rooms with solid concrete views Many of the room fittings need replacing URGENTLY Very poor for $200 per night
Very average for Accor.
Property old and run down. Staff is not helpful
Well located but needs emergency evacuation plan
Quiet location in an older style hotel close to CBD with cafes nearby. Great view of Perth cathedral
Pretty old and run down
Great are but very outdated. The rooms need upgrading, old carpet, old fixtures. Considering the long weekend and pink being in Perth, more staff for check ins would have been appreciated by those that had to wait over 1/2 hour to check into their room
Nil
Awesome
No parking available due to maintenance, no solutions were offered. Not a four star hotel in my opinion. Clean and tidy bathroom could do with a make over, piece of painted board over bathroom vanity cupboard, tile paint cracked and starting to flake off
Everything about this place is screaming for a makeover. Old and tired. Basic and not much else. Limited dining options (burgers, burgers and more burgers). Staff are friendly and the place is clean and comfy beds were the only redeeming features. I wouldn’t stay here again if I can avoid it. Horrible piped music. No one wants to hear jazz rock- blech!
Very affordable, great staff, comfy bed
The bathroom was filthy. The floor looked like it hadn't been washed in months, if not years. The grout on the tiles was gray and black and chipping off. The electrical outlet and it's holder was cracked and put together with caulk. The laminate on the counter top was pulling away from the base. The the thermostat was directly under the air vent so the air conditioning did not work properly in the room. I was shocked that I had to pay $781.00 AUD for 2 nights.
Great staff
Good place to stay for daily cleaning of rooms and service, central location near the Mint and plenty of cafes. Downsides: weirdly stingy about TP and tissues, had to keep asking for them, no supply in room. Shower had no curtain, water ends up on the floor and the aircon kept reverting to 23 degrees no matter what temperature I put it on. Overall a good stay.
Its location is good as it is in the city centre and so it's convenient. My room was facing Hay street and St Mary Cathedral and so it was good open view. Housekeeping should include automatic vacuum cleaning of the room. There was none and i had to instruct the housekeeper to do so during a cleaning or else it would not be done. The restaurant - same buffet dishes every day. Some dishes should be changed every 2 days. Also, the fruits (apples, oranges, pears) were often of poor quality and left there in the basket for many days and some were already rotting and still left there for the guests.
Comfy bed, great view, reception staff awesome
I was a little upset that i had to pay an extra $100 when i arrived. This was because even though i booked for 3 people on the Wotif App the information did not flow through correctly to the hotel so they had only booked a room for two people for me. They said it was due to the Wotif App so i am reluctant to use it again
Strong chemical smell in the room, Perhaps carpet cleaned and not aired out? Staff s very warm and friendly
No thanks
Nice clean hotel
I had to ask the front desk to get my room cleaned, get fresh towels everyday, the staff were not filling up the tea, coffee, milk had to literally beg them every day, if I didn’t ask it wouldn’t be done . There was no microwave, water supplied. Today I had the buffet breakfast and the bread was full of mould which I showed to the bar staff . One of the front desk staff was very rude and hung the phone on me while I was still talking. The room phones were not working. After 11pm no one answers the phone at the reception. Front desk staff not competent in answering customers.
This has already been communicated in a previous response where a number of defects were listed. Hopefully, this is not simply incorporated into the multitude of responses received that are ultimately dismissed. Replies like this are simply one voice and usually disregarded by indolent and ignorant survey reviewers.
Was told after booking that they were renovating but the whole place is tired ! Shower leaking on the floor as well as water from the toilet ! Stayed 2 nights and had to ask them to service the room !! Still didn’t change the tea cups etc . A really poor choice
the matresses were rock hard, facilities advertised on website were unavailable, no laundry facility, staff professional and polite but not friendly at all so our custom felt unwanted.
Great place to stay. And can park here
The staff were amazingly helpful and friendly. Room was large but in need of an update.
nothing will change
No complaints. We were prepared for the worst given the reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised. The room was clean, clean sheets and towels, though bathroom cleaning was rather superficial. We did not do any meals, a guest made a complaint as we checked in so decided to avoid the restaurant. All in all, would stay there again.
All is good
Average but noisy
Very noisy and walls are VERY thin. Constant sounds of running water. Basic but clean and comfortable enough. I believe this used to be a travelodge and is very similar in quality to that despite the mercure name.
Car parking was very constricted & no bays when already booked. Really weird how you would have bays to fit 3 cars knowing you will be trapped in the middle bay. !!
The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The cleanliness was poor curtains dirty carpet very tired the detail between lifts and floor dirty the breakfast area pretty average
It was clean, in a good location, and comfortable. Sometimes there was a weird smell about the rooms but otherwise nice.
Overall average experience. Overpriced limited parking underground -> should probably fix this, other than that it was okay
Lovely stay, comfortable room.
Very quick and easy check-in. Extremely courteous people handling the front desk. The only thing I would comment for improvement would be the drainage in the shower bath tub that either needs to be cleaned, repaired or replaced. It currently gives a slightly unsightly appearance. Otherwise, everything was perfect. Keep it up.
Poor service. Staff defending the problems with the room where they are indefensible.
Convenient to public transport, restaurants . Elizabeth Quay etc. Pleasant surroundings. There was some building maintenance occurring but minimal inconvenience . Very pleasant stay. All staff were very helpful.
Made the mistake of thinking I booked at Mercure on Irwin St. Nope. This Hay St Mercure is tired, outdated and no service. Front desk were not very welcoming, room service closed before 9pm on a Sat night and the hot buffet breakfast was sad. There’s just no love???? Bed was however extremely comfy.
Loved the room with a balcony. All very clean and spacious at a reasonable rate.
Dirty
Room price included breakfast - both were good value. Loved that we were able to turn of the aircon and open the balcony door for fresh air. Staff communication from Reception to housekeeping to Restaurant and Bar was welcoming, helpful, professional, responsive and friendly. We had lunch, dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and drinks from the bar. Faultless. Hotel was chosen for it’s easy walking distance to the Perth Concert Hall. Would absolutely stay again. One suggestion, a grab rail next to the toilet and on the inside wall of the shower would be helpful for people with limited physicality. Also, 2 drinking glasses in the room would be useful (1 glass, twin room) and a couple of extra pillows in the wardrobe could benefit. Thank you for the stay!
Clean & tidy
Overall a nice place, but four stars. The bathroom had a broken tap, shower head had blocked ends, so I had to clear them out. The bathroom was a shower/ bath combo. The bath is really old and stained. Could hear people in the next rooms. Could hear the plumbing from the next rooms through the walls. The AC wouldn't work so I had to open the door to the balcony. Could then hear all the noise from the city. Pillows are really uncomfortable. Bedding included a sheet, blanket and sheet wrapped into one. Housekeeping did not attend each day. Breakfast was nice, but only two types of juice, apple and tropical. Limited beers at the bar and they were expensive. Limited food options on the restaurant menu. Limited parking space. Don't have a 4x4 or SUV and try and park it down there. There was maintenance work going on in the lobby and at the front of the hotel with ladders and cables. Staff should have informed guests and incoming guests of work and hazards.
Staff were helpfull.thanks
Has a nice feel to it and balcony was great
Needs a full refurb and a deep clean
Very tired hotel, clearly in need of a refurb. The front desk staff do their best under the circumstances and were very helpful. Cleaning of the rooms is almost non-existent.
I don’t normally write reviews for restaurants or hotels, although given how disappointed I was with my stay at The Mercure, I felt a need to tell other traveler's. There was so many minor issues across my two night stay that really hurt the hotel experience. No cover on my doona, empty toiletry bottles, room key card consistently didn’t work and would have to be recalibrated every time I left the room. Asked 2 staff members for some extra pillows and even-though they wrote it down, I never had assistance. They were however very friendly during checkin. Worst part of the whole experience was how thin the walls and door was. The lift makes a loud clunking noise when used. Every toilet flush, shower, step, key entry, door close or talking from neighbours in other rooms sounds magnified and can be heard in your room. Made sleeping basically impossible before 1am. Would not stay here again and would recommend other traveler's consider different other options at its similar price.
Noisy rooms are a bit outdated
