Great location
Loved staying at this historical hotel across the street from the Alamo. Many of the amenities of a current hotel. Only negative on this stay was the construction going on outside near the entrance. It slowed down arrival and departure, but inside the hotel everything was fine.
I loved that the property was a historical landmark but I think they should also consider doing some more renovations or maintenance on the rooms
Great location! Hotel is a piece of art, very cozy. I will definitely stay in this hotel again.
We went for our anniversary so we only stayed 1 night. The hotel is nice we are off site since the riverwalk was right there and we didn’t see any ghost lol.
Good
The location was perfect. The staff was very friendly. We'll return.
Very nice but AC doesn’t work in half the hotel, which they put signs up letting people know. Walls are thin. Location and beauty of the hotel are a plus.
Beautiful Hotel and awesome staff.
Between the shrieks of ghost or
Super quite nice. The changing chess board was a neat thing
Convenient location
Amazing locación close, close to everything and it’s full of history and such a beautiful hotel. However you will hear people in the hallways and toilet flush is LOUD, but so worth the bit of noise!
It’s history and quaintness
We had a great time and the hotel staff was amazing.
Location is unique. Service not so good. The room very nice.Bathroom was uncomfortable.
Friendly helpful staff, ready with anything we needed!
We loved our stay at The Menger. I loved that other people were also walking around at night exploring and likely interested in the spooky aspect as well. That's kind of thing for me & my kids, and its nice when we dont feel like total weirdos for doing it! haha I do have to note that the little interactions I had with the staff while staying, they were pretty snooty and seemed annoyed by my presence. Thankfully those interactions were little to none. But it would have been nice to have people be nice and accepting to you when you're spending as much money as I did to stay there.
We had an amazing stay and will definitely be booking again!
Perfectly located for the Alamo and River Walk. Nicely maintained historic building.
We liked the pool
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was nice, quiet, and walkable to the river walk and literally right next door to the Alamo. If you stay here get the address to the entrance (where the valet is) from the hotel in advance. The address online will take you to a spot that inaccessible by car.
Stayed 2 nights with my wife and was pleasantly surprised with how beautiful the hotel was given the age. The way they have upkept the hotel is delightful. Our room was clean and everyone was very friendly. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend.
I liked the valet parking, not too crowded, what I didn’t like was the bed situation, they were to small, it didn’t even feel like we were in a full more like a twin and for 2 grown adults that was way too small, the construction starting at 8 in the morning was the worse, we couldn’t sleep in so we got up and checked out early
Great location! And the history!
Loved the history of the place. Elegance of a by-gone era. Perfect location next to the Alamo, and steps from the heart of the riverwalk No ghost encounters but loved the stories about Sally
Beautiful Historic Hotel. Looking forward to another visit!
Lovely historical hotel Walking was all that was required to get to any destination and shopping
Clean room s and Convenient Location for downtown San Antonio!
Great
Wonderful stay! Great staff and easy parking with great access to downtown amenities’
Very nice place to stay and the building is beautiful. Restaurant and room service onsite, but plenty of restaurants around the hotel (within walking distance).
We loved our stay. Felt safe and easy parking. Restaurants in walking distance. We enjoyed the pool.
My husband and I stayed one night. Although we didn’t stay very long we hope to return and enjoy the beautiful hotel and brunch there. The service was wonderful from start to end.
This is an historic hotel. I highly recommend staying in the older part of the hotel. There is lots of history at the Menger!
HVAC system was very noisy during the night; snapping sound for over a minute every 15-minutes. Hair dryer needs cleaning as air supply vent was fully covered in lint.
Only stayed for one night but room was nice and clean. The location of the hotel was convenient and easy enough to walk to the Riverwalk. Would recommend and stay here again.
Historic building, really well maintained.
The Menger, I think, is striving for quaint but manages dingy and outdated. The location is hard to beat though - my window overlooked the Alamo. The valet text system works sometimes. Plan ahead to get your car on time. Tacos and margaritas in the little attached taqueria are pretty fantastic and reasonably priced.
Staff was helpful and didn’t realize it was a haunted hotel, was told on our last night and walked by ghost tour in lobby. Room was clean only problem water wouldn’t adjust correctly in the shower, it would switch hot to cold off/on
Loved it!
When we checked in there were dirty sheets on the floor. The Valet was gone at night or limited staff. The shower would get hot when somebody from another room would flush the toilet. The staff at the front desk was not cheerful.
Everything about this property was wonderful. Breakfast and lunch is free for kids. Nice pool. Valet parking was excellent.
The AC kept on doing a loud noise every 20 minutes, could not sleep
One night
Nice place. Close to Alamo, good size pool. Buffet or menu order at restaurant. Good service. All staff were friendly!
Be a part of Texas history too.
This hotel is apart of Texas history itself, next door to the Alamo itself. The staff are great, the rooms are large and comfy. The pool was large and we were waited on for drinks etc. we loved our stay
Absolutely breathtaking views and Spacious Room accommodations with that Southern Flair. The preservation of the architecture of the original structure and antique furnishings was simply mesmerizing and if you’re a spiritual person like me I must wan you. The place is truly haunted. But if you can get past that aspect then it is well worth the experience and value. The buffet was pricey $50 person for breakfast was a bit steep. And last but not least one of the Best heated pools and sun bathing lounge in San Antonio. I do advise to use the valet parking it is $50 a day but from all the reviews and research I did it was highly recommended from past travelers since the other cheaper place were out in the open with no security and park at your own risk. Not worth the risk in my opinion especially if you have a rental vehicle. Thank you Expedia for the recommendation. Xoxo YMR
garden crtiticism
Beautiful hotel. Really impressive lobby area. My one criticism has to do with the interior garden area. This is a great place to sit but it baffles me why you allow smoking in this area. Why cater to a small percentage of guests at the expense of all others? The smell of the smoking gets trapped by the four surrounding walls. As soon as a smoker came out, I had to leave the area.
A fabulous historic hotel with stunning beauty everywhere. Bar is good.. It is right on the Alamo plaza and a short walk to the Riverwalk
We loved the Menger Hotel. The staff were friendly, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The bathroom was somewhat dated, but overall the value for money was excellent given the hotel's character and history and its superb location.
I love staying at this property. My kids asked that we return because it was so great before. You can see the Alamo from your room! We love the pool. Currently, there is a lot of construction that makes it really hard to find the hotel. Maps drop you in the wrong place, but it is so worth it when you find it. The staff, who has no control over the construction in the area, is very apologetic.
Very crampy
Super small rooms and pricy for its price
Great
Menger is a great place to stay!
Everything was very clean, hotel staff is excellent. We loved it.
Listing claims the room was 266 ft.². It was half of that at most. Lots of construction around the area at the time makes it noisy and inconvenient.
Historica
Historic hotel was really cool
Alamo plaza is under construction so it was a little hard to find but once we found it it is AMAZING. If you like Texas history, the Menger is the place to stay. We looked at old photos in the hallway for over an hour alone. The room was very clean and comfortable, the staff friendly, professional and efficient. Well worth the trip.
The hotel had a lot to offer close to alot of different venues. Staff is very knowledgeable. Hotel is rich in history and walking thru it is like going to a museum.
Nice, Historic site. Area attractions easily accessible. What they don’t mention is that they either Valet your car for $59 a day or you find parking on your own. Also don’t understand why breakfast isn’t complementary, the buffet was not worth $25. If your room is on the historic side, bring a fan because the AC might not really work in your room.
Amazing stay at a historic hotel! The history is amazing and has been well preserved. You do give up a few modern amenities, but was overall very impressed! Hotel had everything by we needed. Great location! Would stay again.
We have stayed there several times. Love it. Only complaints are valet parking too expensive and toilets are LOUD.
Great Hotel
Great Stay
The location is in the heart of downtown and the historic hotel absolutely beautiful.
The staff was amazing and took care of all our needs
Had problem with the shower faucet and plug. No tower bars and ventilation.
Historic hotel
The hotel is very historic . Only offer double beds and king beds . Double beds are just ok . Very nice amenties. Close to riverwalk and restaurants lots to do and see nearby. Recommend for breakfast buffet a omlette station. Scrambled eggs had burnt eggs in them , pancakes were hard as a rock
Valet, meh...
Main disappointment was valet. They let people stop in the the middle of the drive to unload, not allowing room for others to leave. I HAD plenty of time to get to my destination, I almost missed the ceremony.
Love that they valet park. Nice, big, clean rooms. Next to Alamo, Starbucks next door, across the street Wax and Ridley’s Museum, many locations to eat and visit in walking distance.
We visited this hotel on a tour of San Antonio. We were so impressed with the history and the beauty of the hotel that we immediately booked a night here. It is so convenient to the Alamo and the Riverwalk. The hotel is full of history and is a fascinating place to be.
Shower water, temperature variation
The showerhead was so clogged up with calcium scale. Very little water came out. When the came out, it vacillated between cool and stalling hot temperatures. This is a huge safety concern.
.
Very nice❣️
Very historical, wonderful atmosphere and antique decor from the past. Nice breakfast brunch. Parking can be expensive but you are down town
Ok, but pricy
The hotel is beautiful and was fun to visit. The room was dusty. The future had splatter on the base of the dresser that no one could be bothered to clean up. The tub was flaking off the coating of paint. There was no daily room service. For the nightly charge you would expect four or five stars service not two star service.
We won't stay here again...
location was great. Beds very hard and small. Not enough power in the room to run coffee make, refrig, tv and lamps. Had to unplug lamp to run coffee maker. Bath was terrible like taking a shower in a camper trailer it was so small. $50 per day to park. Yes they charge you for the day you check out
was close to the convention center
Wonderful!
Menger SanAntonio
We always stay at the Menger when we are in Galveston. I think the rooms are nice and very affordable. The pool is always clean and inviting. When we checked in the front desk was not very friendly or accommodative
The Menger is a beautiful historic hotel. The room was small but lovely except for the leaking water in the shower/tub and the toilet that flushed like a loud tornado. Very noisy! The area around the hotel is under construction in all areas. Very difficult to navigate to the hotel and valet parking area.
No help when needed!
The hotel is beautiful, I love history and that drew me to this place. However, just outside it window was a construction site (uncontrollable by the hotel I know) but I checked in on a Friday with my side, first night away from the kids in a long time, we were woke up on Saturday morning at 7 a.m. to ALOT of loud noise from the construction…on a Saturday…the hotel would not issue a refund without charging me 75 dollars a night for early check out. They offered me free breakfast and found a room to move us to. I was told the room was the same rate and there would be no difference in the final price of my stay but of course when I check out the second room was 50 dollars more a night. The construction is not their fault but we should be warned or considerably compensated for the major disappointment. But the hotel is perfect for history buffs like myself! Just bad timing I guess.
Good old style hotel
All good , receptionist ok if a little indifferent
Beautiful historic place
.
Great
I didn’t like about the Ac or heater they have it I who’s hotel not able to fix it form the room
Yes
Great locations. Close to the mall nd river walk. Beds very comfortable
Great location right on Alamo Plaza
While the Menger Hotel exudes historic charm and old-world glamour, we couldn’t help but wonder why such a treasured landmark has been allowed to fall into disrepair. We expected quirks due to its age, like smaller rooms and tight bathrooms, which are understandable given heritage preservation requirements. However, what was less forgivable was the lack of cleanliness. Our bathroom still bore traces of previous guests, the historical displays were dusty and neglected, and the hotel bar had a layer of dust that may have been as old as the bullet holes in the wall left by Teddy Roosevelt. Additionally, housekeeping is not a daily service—there was a sign in our bathroom stating that a complimentary cleaning would only be available after the third night. For a hotel steeped in such rich history, we expected better upkeep and attention to detail.
Nice enough for the price.
Though the hotel was nice enough it was quit dated in the room. Dirty floors in the bathroom, no hooks for towels and such, odd smells and huge dust bunnies hanging from the ceiling. The lobby had an extremely potent smell of some scent they were marketing. t was so intense that it actually triggered my allergies.
Nice historical hotel. Cute shops, good bar and valet was quick.
Great
Great location and beautiful hotel
Thank you to the Menger staff for a great stay. Comfortable room and great location.
Enjoyed the pool with our grandkids.
Awesome
The hotel is very unique and lovely, but it is an old hotel. Due to its nature, the hotel can only put on the heat or A/C at one time. Construction around the hotel made it a bit difficult to navigate, but overall a lovely hotel.
Beautiful old hotel but need a few updates to bed linens (very rough) and need to update the balcony sliding doors, heard the very loud sliding noise several times during the night. Last thing, hotel really didn’t disclose prior but plan on a $50 valet parking fee per night. Overall good location and good experience.
Beautiful hotel. Very clean.
Beautiful hotel, historic, great location yet reasonable, some of older rooms are very small, with slow bath drainage, AC struggled to hit target temp, but also quaint in a way. I stay here often
Nice hotel, customer service was excellent.
Loved that we could check out and the hotel would hold our bags at valet so we could explore the city without having to haul our luggage around.

So so
The hotel’s location was great, but we wish we had been informed about the extensive construction in the area. The road closures made it difficult to find the valet entrance, which was frustrating. Additionally, our room was uncomfortably cold—it never warmed past 64 degrees, even after we called the front desk for assistance. Unfortunately, the issue wasn’t resolved, so we didn’t get a good night’s rest. Since we returned to our room late, we didn’t bother calling again. Overall, while the location was convenient, these issues made our stay less enjoyable.
