Come in the winter
Just a quick trip to Portland for an appointment. This is an interesting place with a lot of history to it. I always feel like I need to dust at McMenamins since there decor is so dim. The property is well maintained and I’m sorry I’ll miss the gardens in bloom. However I would not stay here in the spring or summer because of the traffic noise. Really really loud. The spa is lovely, make sure to make reservations in advance. Food is the same as every other McMenamins.
The Fridge in the room was very tiny, room temperature, and very difficult to open and close.
Great evening full of food, yummy drinks, hanging out near the fire, and soaking in the pool on a Monday night in the late fall. Highly recommend!
Ten Stars!
I loved everything about my stay, especially the staff, who went over and above for me. The property has a lot of stairs. I am old and not in good health, and i had just got out of the hospital. I was struggling with getting my luggage to the 3rd floor and a kind woman at the front desk took my bag up for me. The only negative was the pillow. Too flat and flimsy. Everything else was perfect. Fire pits were tiasty on a cold night, the soaking pool was amazing. Sadly, i wasn't there on any days Jerry's Ice House was open. I am a Deadhead!
Soaking tub!!!!
Rich of amenities according to a hotel…
Great
It is like joining a commune for a night, you just don’t have to do any of the work. So fun!
Amazing soaking pool
Always enjoy our stay
It’s a treat to stay there. Always a good time.
I stay here every year when I come out for work. Interesting environment, excellent food and drink, great people.
Great spot highly recommended
The landscaping and gardens are a gardener’s delight. We took several walks to many different gardens. Ancient climbing hydrangeas on the front of the lodge are gorgeous. The salt water pool is a perfect place to relax. I did see some areas that need maintenance and paint, and the need for deep cleaning in the communal shower area and the sleeping rooms. There was a lot of traffic that made walking from place to place a bit dangerous and clear markings for pathways are either non existent or covered by shrubbery. It is clear that the concert venue is a driving focus although on the days we were there it was pretty chill. Great bar and food, fun gift shop and staff were there to be sure we had everything we needed. I hope to return for another stay.
Love dipping in the soaking pool.
The rooms are large and bed comfortable. The gardens and grounds are beautiful. Don't really like to have a separate bathroom, but they were very clean and one was always available, no wait.
Amazing stay
Lincoln city or bust
Great location lots a very cool things to look at. Food was delicious and everything from our beers, gin and tonics and wines crafted on sight were delicious. Will be back
Loved the par 3 golf!
Hostel stay - so, so good! Quiet room, clean beds, locker for your things. I couldn't have been more pleased with how well this stay worked out for me.
Men’s hostel
Worth every penny. Fun place to spend a night or two with friends.
...
Very nice property! Enjoy the soaking pools
The best hostel I’ve truly ever stayed in and I have stayed in many.
Loved it
Excellent visit. Did not read the accommodations very well and ended up with a communal bathroom. Definitely a first for this traveler. Make sure to read the fine print!!
Magical
Super unique! Fantastic for a couples weekend.
It was my first time at this property, and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. It wasn't super busy since we came on a Sunday night, which was nice. It kind of reminded me of Silverwood with its little nooks and crannies of shops and dining/drink options, and the grounds were lovely to walk through. The bathrooms are at the end of the hall in a lounge with three separate private shower/sink/toilet rooms (at least on the floor I stayed on). With the amount of times I use the bathroom at night, and with how much I drank while I was there, having to leave my room and walk down to the bathroom was a little hard to manage, but I would just stay in a room closer to them next time. The only food we had was in a bar without a real kitchen, but we were a few drinks in by then and didn't really mind the fact that our nachos were cold. The drinks were delicious, and we had several of them. The soaking tub was my (and I'm sure everyone's) favorite part. It was nice and warm and there was plenty of space to spread out and have a little privacy. There is a bar at. The grotto pool and also a water station and bathrooms, so you could really hang out there for hours if you wanted to. It was a great stay, and I wish we had done the room service breakfast the next morning that you put your order out the night before for. Also I recommend putting your do not disturb sign up, because housekeeping came in at 8 and woke us up.
Had never stayed at a hostel. They provided a locker and the bunk beds had a curtain around them. It was quiet and safe.
Amaze!
The property was nice, a little awkward not having its own bathroom but I got thru it
I love this property and the uniqueness of it.
The soaking pools are to die for and love the fact they're adults only after 8.
Quirky elegance
This visit was so much fun for my wife and me. It was the perfect getaway. The only speedbump was that the heat (boiler) went down in the evening, and despite best efforts to get it back up and running, it took some time and left guestrooms on the first floor pretty cold. They did comp $50 for the inconvenience.
.
Great Mardi Gras show
The soaking pool is amazing, unfortunately one of the heaters was broke, so it wasn’t hot. Black Rabbit restaurant is very good! Winery is nice. The Fat Tuesday party could have been better prepared with some better decorations.
Travel nurse
Overall was a good stay. Food was okay but rooms were nice and hotel staff were friendly. Loved the hot pool btw. Brought my wife and doggy with me. No complaints
A lovely mid week stay for one night. The property is lovely to walk and the soaking pool, you never want to leave.
First time staying in the men’s dorm. It was comfortable, clean and roomy.
The rooms
I stayed in women’s hostel. EXCELLENT!! Everyone is respectful, accommodations were clean & comfortable- shared bathrooms spotless!! I got to take advantage of all amenities at a fraction of regular room price!! Plan to do it again!!
Amazing place
This is really an incredible place. The grounds are immaculate and have an amazing variety of plants that are well cared for. Between all the facilities available there’s really nothing more you could need. My only criticism was that the men’s hostel room could not have been hotter! One window with just a couple of fans lead to a very uncomfortable night’s sleep. I’d still like to return but it’ll have to been at a cooler time of the year.
👍
Great place to stay and explore.
Amazing place to stay full of suprises and history. Great staff, food and entertainment. The spa and heated lazy river was perfect.
Loved our overnight, as a stopover before heading east and into the Gorge, for hiking and paddle boarding! This property has so much to take in, must return!
They moved our room with a notice of 6 hours before checking in when we were on the road already. They put the blame on Expedia overbooking it. Our room was booked days earlier. Rooms were very hot, without any air conditioning. Carpets were very smelly.
We’ve always enjoyed this property, but this time it seemed a little worn and run down. The quality was not the same, though the staff were delightful.
Very nice and peaceful
Wonderful staff, great atmosphere, awesome food
Men’s bathroom stinks
Hippie, no tv, no ref, some area have community bathrooms. Those rooms with private bath has no room service. Restaurant is only open certain nights.
I loved the scenery
Staff is gracious, competent and caring. They also have a sense of humor and try to accomodate any concerns we have.
Magical Hotel!
Beautiful and historic hotel/building. We had nothing but a magical stay here.
It is a great place, the mineral pool is the best
Very unique. Good location. The grounds are wonderful. The staff are superior! I look forward to staying here again!
We have stayed here many times and I never tire of all the beautiful art spread throughout th3 facility.
Great and fun place!
Our favorite place EVER to stay. Thank you so much!!!
The staff here never disappoints. The front desk people were very quick to address our only small concern... Huge Thank You!!!!
Overall good stay. Next time maybe bathroom in room. Staff friendly and professional. Grounds very well groomed and the plants and bushes, trees where in bloom so nice
We loved the grounds and the atmosphere overall. The service in the restaurant was very slow. We waited an hour to be seated then waited over an hour for our meal to be served.
Pub restaurants and a lot to do but they have no TVs in there rooms no restrooms in some of there rooms u have to ask for a bathroom and shower no air for the prices that’s crazy
This property is the diamond in the crown of McMenamins. Unique artwork, beautiful rooms, history and wonderful food and drink.
Old time charm, reminiscent of 1950s family trips, but shared bathrooms and creepy floors and thin walls.
Really just stayed so we could soak in the pool to our hearts' content. Super nice to have the 21 time after 8. It was cold and rainy but there were some cozy spots to curl up and read a book and ample covered porches with seating and heaters.
Always a great place to stop by! Lots of space for my child to run around. Always found an empty bathroom to shower in. Great staff!
St Patrick's day
Check in and check out was safe and streamlined. Room was interesting and clean. Pipers were late but entertaining.
Staying at Mcminnamins edgefield is such a unique experience that I believe everyone should get a chance to have. What other hotel has such a storied history with on-site activities. This hotel is a destination not just a place to sleep.
The grounds are well maintained , staff working focused and food and drinks where great !
All of the facilities and amenities were great. Perhaps too crowded, people not social distancing, etc.
A stay in Hell
This hotel was once the county work house, the front desk personnel haven't got it that it is a hotel. They act like "overseers". They are rude, not forthcoming with information. I was running from a fire and wanted info on it, the roads and safety. I was told "Got a phone!" "Read a newspaper" The morning idiot wasn't any better. I wouldn't stay here ever again, I would sleep in the street first! When asked where the bathroom was "at the end of the hall", there were only 5 halls and they wouldn't say which one. When I left I found out someone tried to break into my truck in their secured parking lot. Luckily they couldn't get the door handle pried out of the door, just damaged it. It was a night of misery!
Quirky/fun but no private restrooms
I stayed at Edgefield while on a business trip and didn’t realize I’d be trading convenience for a unique “experience”. Most notably, there are no restrooms in the rooms. They’re down the hall, and the hotel provides you a robe. I booked it before the most recent reviews came in (and didn’t scroll back far enough to see another review that mentions it). The lack of convenience and privacy (it feels weird to be walking in your robe and passing the bustling restaurant) sort of put a damper on the stay, and I could hear all the commotion in the hallway. There is no AC, or any more modern accommodations in the rooms, such as refrigerator or TV. They feel pretty spartan. For what it’s worth to others, I didn’t see any ADA accessibility accommodations either. The whole building and rooms are quaint and fun/funky. I feel people would enjoy a stay here looking for that as a mini getaway. But this is definitely an experience not meant for businesspeople on the go, or a private and intimate couples stay.
Unique and amazing place to stay.
Wonderful hotel with multiple restaurants and bars on sight. McMenamins hit the ball out of the park with this facility. Unique and 100% Mcmenamins at the same time. The only downside is that the Hotel rooms do not have bathrooms inside the room. You have to walk down the hallways to a shared bathroom.
One of our favorite places to stay. Friendly staff and great food and drink!
Tried to charge me $110 a night, on hotels.com it said a single queen was $95. A king was listed for $105, tried to charge me more than what a king room said in this app. Had to basically haggle. I had previously called to make sure there was going to be a couch in the room for a child, there wasn't when we checked in, I had to ask for roll away, I am sure they are going to charge me for that. Then had to come back down to ask for pillows since they didn't bring any for the rollaway. The grounds were beautiful, the restaurants and music were great....check in was sketch.
A very unique experience! My wife & I had been to Edgefield countless times for concerts & meals, but we’d never stayed overnight. The room was comfortable & spacious, the bed above average for a hotel. It was so fun just to roam the grounds, enjoy good food & beer, and play a round of mini-golf as the sun set. The gift shop is awesome, and the decor throughout the hotel fascinating to admire. Our only quibble was with the front desk, whose personnel we encountered at check in and check out were disinterested in providing a friendly welcoming & departure. Everyone else at Edgefield was wonderful & cheerful!
Only one line to grab drinks and order food. I had to go to the back of the line to get another drink. That totally won’t work if it gets busy on a weekend. I probably won’t return until this COVID thing is behind us.
What a Gem!!
What an amazing property! I only stayed two days but I would’ve loved to stay two weeks. The wine, the craft beer, the cider, the distilled spirits, The food, the accommodations, the Gardens. Absolutely 100% and five stars!
Itvwas great only issue was area rug trip hazzard forr syre!
Amazing experience- even in February. Everything from the food, staff and grounds. We added nights at the last minute and had to switch rooms. Staff was so accommodating.
Wonderful relaxing resort with so much to do!
Unfortunately , we only stayed 2 nights, could have stayed at least 2 more and never left the property. Lots of small pubs, things to discover. Great food, very good old fashioned, live music each night. You could spend hours just looking at all the artwork. Definitely take the free art and history tour to see some hidden gems. The shared bathrooms are clean and modern. It did not feel weird to walk to the bathroom in the robe provided, everyone's doing the same. Front desk told us Troutdale was not walkable but it is very close, maybe 20 mins to a small shopping street with antique stores and an old fashioned General store, worth the short walk. Also an outlet mall about 5 minutes further.
Cool place but loud. Lots of people hanging out in the front where my room was talking really loud and partying. Was okay at 11pm but not okay at 1am. The communal bathroom was stinky. Love the robes and soaking pool. Lots of history.
Amazing property with magical heated lagoon garden! The Hotel and pubs are old, dingy but tidy and cute!
Loved the soaking pool. Night lighting at pool was majestic and relaxing.
Slow down to speed up
The best hostel experience I've ever imagined! Taking some time in the clawfoot tub turned stress to relaxation in less than 1 hour...
Cool historic building with a lot of heritage. Great grounds to look around
Very confusing layout and common restrooms/shower areas are set up nicely, however check in service was poor and was offered no assistance in orientating to the facilities. Check-in staff appeared to not want to spend time to provide this support even though no one else was in line. “Figure it out yourself” type attitude.
Property and everything is usually amazing. This time the hotel was going through major water damage renovation. Workers outside our room yelling at 6:00am trying to get into the room at 9:00 to do work when we check out at 11:00. Also was not able to accrue loyalty program points because it was booked through expedia. No mention of work being done when booked.
I no sooner put my hand on the front door and the fire alarm went off. They ran my card and I still don’t know if my money has been credited back. Fire Marshall shut them down and they told us we were on our own to find alternative accommodations. Some of us ended up clear out in Hood River. It was 8 pm and I was 5 hours from home. It was a sh#%show. I was lucky. My boyfriends daughter invited me to stay with them. Otherwise I’d have slept in my car. Too bad. Grounds were pretty.
Without a doubt, this is THE place to stay at if you overnight it in Portland. Bar none.
The grounds are beautiful. Lost my passport so am sad.
My new favorite hotel!
Absolutely awesome! Loved the quirky art, the winery, distillery, and brewery. I think my favorite part though was the heated outdoor pool, it’s beautifully landscaped and wonderful after a long day of traveling. I would highly recommend this property.
Great Getaway
Just needed a little break and booked last minute. Got upgraded. Very relaxing. Will be happy to return and also check out some of the other sites they have
Best place to take a mini vacation
Fabulous experience. So many fun things to do without leaving the property. Love coming to this hotel.
The grounds are lovely and unique. The staff are all super friendly. Loved it!
