Nice location. Odd check-in process. Poor air-conditioning: no in-room control, temperature set centrally far too hot. We had to open the balcony doors, air outside 26 but inside must have been 28-29.
DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL !!!!
I cannot believe this hotel treats it guests like this, the room is so hot and the air conditioning did not work. The reception makes it out as if its the guests fault, they say they are sorting it out and never come. They claim its fixed when its not. They are understaffed and lied multiple times. The booking in process is a pain, we waited 15 minutes for the person to arrive and then you need to be escorted to your car every time if you park on site. Terrible setup, terrible serivce, terrible experience
Location was great , 5 min walk to the water , restaurants!
It seems like it’s a hotel inside of a hotel so you have to wait for someone to get you in the lobby. My room was spacious, there was only soap and conditioner available with a selection of hot drinks. The bath was nice. They take a bond which I thought was a little high and had to convince them to charge less.
Unfortunately the air conditioning was not working during our stay. The room size was spacious, but the advertising did not mention that the indoor swimming pool and gym were off-site and we would require a separate key to access these each time.
Safe, keycard needed to use lifts and to get into your room. Plenty of walkable dining or drinking options with a 5-10min radius, including the Viaduct Harbour just down the road. Area was pretty quiet
Brilliant position for the viaduct
The Marsden is in the Sofitel, but other than coming in through the same front door you are segregated and made to feel like the poor cousin. It is a poor form of differentiation.
Hotel was great. Room was very clean and quiet. Very convenient spot. 2 minute walk to the Viaduct. Would absolutely stay again.
Very good hotel, friendly staff. Make sure you have everything covered in booking as pool, car parking and even an additional bed was extra. Even though I booked for 2 adults and one child. The actual Sofitel staff was ridiculously good but you obviously pay a lot more for that level of service
We would definitely stay here again. It's a high end hotel for a reasonable price. The location is fantastic, the staff were great, the rooms were luxurious. We were very happy there.
We stayed for new year's eve and had amazing view of the sku tower and fireworks. Really good location
Run within the Sofitel so beautiful lobby area, close to restaurants. Large room with good amenities, but blinds were all broken and big clump of black hair sitting in shower drain. Yuck
The staff were very attentive check in was super fast
Didnt like that i had to wait in the lobby for 15 to 20 mins to get the staff to let me in to get to reception.
A good stay but I have to comment on the complete lack of signage - the Marsden occupies floors in the sofitel (unsure if there's a price difference but the rooms are identical) It's confusing to taxi drivers and others who don't know it's the same property. I noticed the marble skirting in the bathroom was dusty (housekeeping manager is missing a beat there) and the wallpaper in the bathroom a lil marked - surprising considering the rating of the property but apart from that all good
False information on the Expedia site for this hotel. Never mentioned that you have to pay 25$ extra per person to use the pool. No microwave in the unit ( as mentioned on the site) and no air conditioning. I was told by the staff that the lower rate we paid for this hotel excluded the pool / spa/ gym services
Love this hotel, central and convenient.
An excellent clean and quiet hotel within easy walking distance of everything we needed to do in Auckland.
Very Inconvenient Reception Arrangement
Very nice rooms and convenient location. Just a couple of things that would make me reconsider staying again. 1. This hotel is within Sofitel. There's no signage so very difficult to find the first time. Once inside, reception is on level three, but until you check in there's no way to use the lifts. Sofitel staff advised me to call and somebody will meet me, but without a local number this isn't an option. Would be nice if you could easily get to reception. 2. There's no individual AC control in the rooms. My room was very hot. There was a portable fan in my room, but disappointing for a 4 star hotel. 3. My access card stopped working. Once again I couldn't easily get to reception. Once I got back to reception, the single staff member was fixing my card but was also getting called to pick up guests from the lobby, so I or new guests were left waiting due to the weird reception arrangement.
Nice stay but sign on offer was a let down.
Was greeted at the door and taken up to reception on the 3rd floor as this hotel shares this space with another hotel. Was able to park car but had to be helped to get in and out. The walk originally was so long from reception to my room on the otherside. But found an elevator near my room which helped. Overall the room was conformable and had what i needed. One complaint would be that they had a sign offering wahlburger delivery right to your room but when i tried to order the service was unavailable. I called to explain to reception my issue which they replied that there must have been an issue with the wahlburgers servers and that i should order uber eats. Felt it kind of defeated the purpose of this sign.
Great Hotel
This was a very weird experience. The bed was comfy and clean but the room overall was very tired, very dusty and not clean. No ac so noisy fan had to be going all night. No hot water this morning and no concierge overnight till 7am so I was unable to contact anyone. Very poor value for money. Do not recommend
The staff where outstanding, from arrival to departure. The room was just as advertised. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Do noy stay at this place
This hotel is locate inside Sofitel Hotel. They have no reciption on main floor & we can't go to their floor by elevator or staircase. And there's no phone or even a button we can use to contect them. We had to call them by our cellphone which is international roaming. The room cleaness is belwo average. I had a back pain & wanted to take a hot bath. After filled water, I saw dirty black pieces & hairs in bathtub. I tried to drain water butdrainage doesn't not work. Thier office has closed. The next day, only bed was made & bath towels hanged on rack been takedn away withour replacement. Dirty floor wasn't vacumed & bathtub wasn't dained. The reciption said she could come but never did. After several hours, we talked to them again. The lady came and gave us new bath towel. After half hour, a guy came. He tried to fix the drainage but failed. Then he went to an empty room to see how the drainage works. Then he came back but still failed to drain water. We asked to use empty room bathtub so I could have a hot bath for my back pain. He said that he would go to check & let us know. We waited for about an hour and then my husband went to their office. The guy closed the door and has gone. How terrible the service is.

Great views of harbour and very convenient TV in the room didn't connect at all
.
Didnt like booking in and getting information from staff was ok when there but sometimes no-one arround. Also they said one of us smoked in the room and charged $250 CLEANING WHICH WE DID NOT DO AND THEY ARE VERY HARD TO TALK TOO AND REASON WITH.
Room was not in good working order. For business person no internet access, tv wouldn't work as no wifi and the aircon never really got cold even after changing setting
Property and room were excellent and the situation is perfect, right next to the Viaduct quarter and marina. It's in the same building as the Sofitel. An odd set up where you have to be met in the foyer and taken up to the fourth floor to check in, as you need a swipe card to get to that floor and until you have checked in, you don't have one. Apart from that, I'd definitely stay again
Big clean room the only downsize getting hot water for a shower took a long while.
They never vacuumed or cleaned effectively. Never wiped down bed side tables etc. Airconditioning did not cool the room
Wonderful stay
We had a wonderful stay! Great walking distance from the restaurants along the viaduct. Friendly staff, checkin was easy! Would absolutely stay again
It is a great location in the Viaduct Basin handy to the city and the waterfront restaurants and bars. The double glazing on the windows is a plus as this area can be noisy at night. Shut the ranch slider overlooking the peaceful water feature, and you can't hear a thing from outside. Staff are super friendly.
Great spot with amazing rooms, staff were helpful even when r spices at 11pm at night. Hoghly recommend
The blind are broken and can’t open the one to go outside on deck
Close to the CBD
Arriving at the hotel, you enter through the Sofitel and have to phone the Marsden Reception to have someone physically come down and escort you to reception for check-in. The room was very tidy with the bare minimums for tea and coffee and toiletries (no shower caps etc) Unfortunately there were no USB points for charging so bring your own chargers. The air conditioning was not working. When I mentioned this, they said they were aware and were requesting to have the temperatures improved. This didn't happen during our 2 nights stay. We had the hot water go off half way through a shower in the middle of the day. Nothing like a cold shower to try and rinse off the soap. after calling reception, this was rectified within about 20 minutes. The TV was pretty challenging to use - there was no easy way to get to the channels and were only freeview channels it seemed.
Lift wasn’t working, Bathroom could have been cleaner, no fan in bathroom & toilet didn’t flush properly also T.V wouldn’t work. Great location & view.
This is a weird, cheaper hotel on one floor inside a normal hotel. There was no parking (because this hotel only borrows parking from the real hotel, and apparently not that much of it), the wifi didn’t work, and the in-room thermostat controls didn’t work. I received no assistance from the front desk in dealing with either of the last two issues, including what I suspect was a lie about “contacting maintenance to change the temperature on their end.” The room itself was nice, but the overall air was of a nice place run cheaply. Don’t recommend, there are plenty of nicer hotels for similar money in Auckland.
Location was great.
A bit strange that it is a hotel inside another hotel and you call them up and the come and get you and take you to another floor for checkin
Great location, room really nice but let down by air con not working and TV connection failure. For a high end hotel is just didnt quite deliver in that regard
Disappointed
Great location but unfortunately the hotel is needing some tlc the communication with staff and customer was poor. Also we got offered the 20%discount on first meal and soft drinks again does not apply here.Don’t eat in French cafe the food served was below any standard for a hotel cafe again poor communication too.
Was a great place to stay, awsome deep bath, comfy bed, only downfall were the ants, there were so many around the kitchenette area , even with the coffee cups rinced,
Long weekend stay
Unfortunately the stay was a little annoying because of lack of availability to 20%off food in hotel restaurant as informed by hotels.com . The general communication was poor and lifts broke down and overall cleanliness in corridor was bit poor needed a carpet cleaner but saying this the overall stay was comfortable and handy for downtown restaurants and Marina .
Location
Curtains fell off their tracks. Blinds didn’t work properly. Couldn’t get the fridge to be cold. Aircon didn’t cool the room
Business trip
I stayed at the hotel a number of times, the first room i was given was disable room that had no desk to work at, I requested another room and was provided an upgrade thank you. It was a bit strange to be told because I booked through a third party, they cannot normally change rooms. I did notice the room i had was starting to look in need of a tidy up in the bathroom and in general.
If you are looking for a quiet and pleasant place to stay in the CBD, then this would be ideal. As long as you are aware of the unique check in process (Which they clearly stipulate in their communications with you) then everything is straightforward. The staff are excellent. I stayed in the room with the marina view. The views itself were really pretty and a gorgeous view of the sky tower, and really nice having a balcony to open up and allow in the fresh air. Two areas of improvement would be, that the windows were really dirty, like really irritating that there is a beautiful view outside but we can't enjoy it without keeping the balcony doors open. I appreciate, they would be harder to maintain than not being near the water, but I have stayed in other places near beaches etc and this hasn't even been on my radar as something to be concerned about. Also some of the tiles in the bathroom could do with a spruce up as they're looking a bit tired and the wallpaper in some areas of the bathroom are peeling away. Those are potentially minor things, but make the difference between a pleasant stay and an incredible stay.
Very helpful staff, willing to go the extra mile for guests.
Very convenient, good size room and bathroom. Really enjoyed our stay.
Lovely spacious apartment - great water pressure and all facilities including large bath
Great sized rooms. Comfortably appointed.
Room was great, super comfy and large. Check in was a bit odd. The access arrangement with the pool/gym wasn’t properly advertised.
Stayed for 2 nights, heating was broken in my allocated room the first night, I was given a small heater for the second night. Additional to this, the hot water in the shower was luke warm, and on a winters morning, its unacceptable. I reported this to reception, they were going to look into it, no offer to change room or anything. Same thing 2 nights in a row - only with a small electric heater.
VIP not received at all, stayed 2 nights again (every week I stay 2 nights) this week my room wasn’t cleaned. I called reception and was told they are only cleaning rooms every 4 days. I explained there is nothing in the room that outlines that or in the confirmation emails. I asked the receptionist to bring me some fresh towels, which she did, I showed her the card in the room that said leave the card on the bed for cleaning, and towels on the floor for changing. I did both those things. Neither was done while I was at work all day. Also the receptionist reponse of every 4 days is no where to be seen. I was also promised that since I stay every week the Manager would make contact with me, still no phone call or email.
The staff member who welcomed us went above and beyond. Excellent service. The room itself seemed good to start with, but a couple of things really let the whole experience down. We arrived, checked in, settled into our room then left to do what we came to Auckland to do. When we got back, we went to have a shower... no hot water. Tried the bath... no hot water. The bath also wouldnt fill up as the pop up waste didnt seal. No hot water was absolutely rediculous. If it wasnt so late, i would have demanded it fixed or a new room. Highly disappointed
Great sized rooms - immaculately cleaned
Good but extra fees not disclosed on hotels.com
It was good, but would’ve been nice to know ahead of time that the pool/spa/gym was an extra $25 fee per person - not disclosed on hotels.com website. This technically increases the cost near equivalent to the Sofitel it is attached to.
Thanks
Smart Tv is not fit for purpose. Call to reception for help didn’t get anybody. I eventually got Tv working twice. Internet dropped out after a few minutes so I gave up. Smart clock thingee next to bed said it wasn’t set up.
Great property right on Auckland Harbor
Stayed here for (3) weeks. My wife for two weeks while on a business trip, and then both of us for a week of personal vacation. Stayed at the Marsden for all three weeks. Great hotel, well-priced, in a beautiful part of Auckland right on the harbor. Room had views of both the harbor and the Sky Tower. Staff was great. Walking distance to tons of great restaurants. Not sure when we’ll be in Auckland again, but would definitely recommend.
Wonderful! Staff is very friendly and accommodating!
Excellent location walkable to the CBD, didn't have time to enjoy the pool but the facilities looks fantastic.
Business trip review
A great place to say for business or holiday
The check in is a bit strange due to the arrangement with Sofitel, bit confusing when you arrive, no signage for information
I didn't like it at all poor place to stay. Internet was rubbish. Couldn't get access to car park easily just a hassle to stay there. Will not stay there again.
Great place to stay
The staff were exceptional! The added assistance provided due to my mobility issues was the best I have ever received. A big thanks to B.
Ff
Peaceful stay
Beautiful view
Ok but won't come back.
The room was extra large with a comfortable bed. However, the safe was difficult to work, so we ended up not using it. The TV had not been set up in all 3 of the rooms our group had. 1 couple asked to get someone to get it going but no one came. Position was good but on relextion for what we had was quite expensive. We were iffered up grade deals which one couple took. Not worth it. We have booked elswhere for our return stay.
Stayed for 3 nights at Marsden Viaduct (which is basically the Sofitel) but cheaper. It uses 2-3 floors of the Sofitel Hotel. You arrive at Sofitel reception area and call Marsden reception to check in and a staff member comes and greets you and takes you to Level 3 to their reception. All the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Great location, easy walking distance to Wynyard area and also Viaduct with plenty of restaurants, cafes, supermarket etc. Easy for all transport options. Lovely and quiet, with a beautiful outlook. Close enough to walk anywhere in CBD, Britomart etc. Huge room, very comfortable bed, great amenities. Will definitely stay here again, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone.
Location
Good stay, but leave car at home.
Good place to stay if you do not have a car. Car park is very expensive and the procedure to get the vehicle in and out is very time waisting.
Great Hotel awesome room and View good value for money. Problems. Small sign out the front and faded flag showing you have arrived. It is joined to another major Hotel. Reception on third floor lift would not take me up as I did not have a card. Apparently I was sent check in information, did not receive. When I went to check out after 7 am no one in reception just a sign saying back shortly. I then went ot the carpark and could not get my car out. Someone else had to let me out. This Hotel just needs good signage and a better system for checking people in and out. I still rate the place very well as the room and view were 5 star.
Two thumbs up
A great room at a great price in a great location. Will definitely stay here again.
Great view of viaduct and sky tower. Comfy beds and great shower. Tv wasnt great it would glitch and go to home screen in middle of show. And would stop to load. But wasnt there to watch tv so didnt bother me too much.
We had a long gap before our return flight (11 hours) and Anil helped us immensely by getting us into a room before 2pm. Amazing when a property can go above and beyond for their guests. We highly recommend this property for all travels, situated in a great location for walking into town.
Fantastic accommodation
Checkin was a bit harder than other hotels but once taken to their reception was ok
Location, location, location, hugh room
.
Hotel muy confortable con buen servicio.
Hotel muy confortable con buen servicio.
The shower didn’t work well, the wand was loose and shot water everywhere. The rain shower worked but flooded the entire washroom. Our air conditioner wouldn’t keep up and was quite warm. The hotel was located in a great area, close to the harbour and many fantastic restaurants.
Had to wait 22 mins for someone to answer phone so I could check in. Room was damp and musty.
Extremely comfortable. Easy walking around. Very clean
Overall the stay was great. However the hotel did not recognise gold status and bottle of wine included with booking was not provided.
Waiting to be let up on the elevator was abit budget. Other than that the room was excellent.
Overall ok but we didn’t get the promised bottle of wine
Perfect Location
Booked by our daughter. Arrived Hogmanay after a long flight from UK. Greeted on arrival and bags taken to reception, where booking in was seamless. Room over looking Marina, perfect to watch the New Year fireworks from Sky Tower. Bed very comfortable. Air conditioning struggled a little initially. Great wifi but TV didn’t work, but not a big issue as we really were not in the room that much. Excellent location for walking to ferry terminal/exploring and boat watching.
The café for breakfast was closed, no notification from the property. We tried to order room service an hour before the option was closed as it was raining outside, was notified it wasn't happening, and it was hot and muggy in Auckland and our room had no working air conditioning. When we notified staff they seemed apathetic to our concerns. Beautiful property, good location, but unfortunately not impressed by the service and lack of a/c in the new zealand summer.
Check in was a little disorganised and confusing. Especially as a foreign tourist having to call them when you arrive is expensive and frustrating especially when it isn’t answered. TV didn’t work in the room and was fairly noisy with road traffic but the bed was super comfy.
The front desk staff on arrival were friendly and helpful however the wifi on the tv was not working initially. When I called front desk for help the operator had an attitude and was stand-off ish. The manager did eventually come to the room to fix which was helpful. When I callee to ask for extra towels it took literally hours to come to our room. The room was advertised as sound proof, it was not. Parking was not accessible and would have costee $90 for two days. The off street parking at wilson car park costed $80. View was great, personal service was good but phone etiquette was terrible all 4 times. Staff answering phone calls need to work on their attitude, they made me feel like they were doing me a favour by doing their jobs correctly.
We loved it
We loved it and will be back

Loved the room. Great bed. Awesome water pressure. No A/C!
