Access to the Pacific, great sunsets, staff friendliness, in room amenities.
Excelente servicio, comida, habitaciones.
The Beach at the property was perfect and we spend most of our time there. The employees were great and very helpful.
Beautiful location by the ocean, peaceful and fun vibe. The food was excellent as was the service. The staff were so friendly. We rented bicycles, kids had access to boogie boards, beach chairs (upon request), local charm and flavor with the cuisine and the ppl. The ocean and surrounding area (marina/walkable) were charming. The excursion to the rainforest remarkable. GREAT vaca!!
A nice property. Has a great beach. The rooms and property show wear. The food options are okay, not great. The property as a whole is a bit expensive for what you receive.
I was very disappointed with this hotel. It was loud, felt low-quality, and not what I expected from the reviews. The beach was underwhelming, and the staff seemed inexperienced and indifferent. Maybe my expectations were too high since I’m used to better treatment at hotels. For a lower budget, and for people who enjoy a lively, crowded atmosphere, it might not be that bad—but it just wasn’t for me.
Nice beach/ pool, but way overrated for the price. Dont go for the all inclusive food/drinks. We went a la carte and only spent have that. Not at all what I expected Costa Rica to be like. The nearest tour to the jungle, volcano is a 6 hours. The Jimmy Buffet theme is not really there. Name only, but lacked the vibe. Disappointed.
This is not an all inclusive. It is at best a food and drink package with very limited selection. CHEAP BEER AND BELOW BOTTOM SHELF ALCOHOL. Very limited food selections. Room service not included. RACCOONS SWIMMING IN POOL AT NIGHT. Felt like a motel more than a Margaritaville. Beach which is not part of property is beautiful though.
The property was clean and well maintained. The staff were helpful and friendly. It did not disappoint!
We enjoyed the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the rooms. We also liked how accommodating the restaurant staff were.
Cozy facility with great staff. Made my family vacation great.
If you want full meal choices, there are several good places within 10 minute walk.
Old property but great beach access. Front desk staff not polite or helpful
Beautiful resort, the staff was very friendly
When you go on a vacation you want it to be more than a place you could visit close to home. Overall stay was just ok. For instance. Paying all inclusive. We had 4 people in a room we got 1 wash cloth everyday an 2 waters. Had problems getting service the pool bar a the 5 a clock somewhere eating area. I seen a drink get spilled by the pool early one day an was still there when we went out for dinner. I asked on one occasion to speak to a manager an said the would see if one was available. Waiting for a few told the over mind a they took my room number. I was never contacted one the issue. I don’t want to say this is a bad place just needs better management. I myself will probably not come back to this area. Not a lot to due. Excursions are 2 to 2.5 hours one way. Most roads are very rough for travel to. Airport is small. No problem getting a ride to hotel. We was told to be back at airport 3 hours early. Good thing. Short line check in. Long line through security. 2.5 hours from check in to plane. My rating on my trip all together 6 out of 10.
We had fun and enjoyed our first trip to Costa Rica!
Excellent staff, property was clean and the food was very good.
Beautiful and amazing and clean. Nice beach and staff were very helpful.
Fun vibe and great for families.
We enjoyed Margraritaville Beach Resort Playa Flamingo in Costa Rica, the resort was clean, pool was awesome, beautiful beach, the restaurants and food were good. All the staff were friendly and helpful, especially Fiona and Wendolyn along with the guys cooking the meals at the Capriccios Pizza Bistro and Cafe they made our meals there so much fun as we ate there five evenings, we will definitely miss them. Also Flowor Soto the concierge was so friendly and helpful. We had a great 2 weeks of vacation and would definitely return.
The food was fair bar food
This hotel was super family friendly. So much to do for the kids including the pool, on site volleyball and a clean, close beach. Food was great. The location was the only downside. The roads to get there were not good and it took a long time to get to what looked like nearby attractions.
Great property close to a beautiful beach. Beach chairs available from the resort. Only downside is there was only 1elevator in the lobby area and none that went to our room on the 3rd floor or to the parking area. We asked if we could be moved to a lower floor and they refused and didn’t give an explanation. This doesn’t usually bother me but we were travelling with 3 kids under 5 and had our stroller wagon which we had to carry up and down the stairs which wasn’t convenient. So if you need an accessible hotel I would maybe look elsewhere.
Staff not very welcoming, I had to pay for water. Pool not really clean, restaurant service not really nice not wanted to service nor work.
The staff in the restaurants were excellent. The beach is excellent. It is clean and the waves could be gentle. The pool is clean and large enough for lap swimming.
Smaller resort made it very convenient to relax and enjoy.
I recently stayed at Margaritaville in Playa Flamingo, Costa Rica, and while it’s rated as a four-star resort, I would personally give it closer to three stars. There were definitely some high points, but also a few areas that need improvement. Pros: • Beautiful Location – Being right on the beach is the biggest highlight of this resort. The views are stunning, and the easy beach access is a major plus. • Clean Rooms – Housekeeping did a great job keeping the rooms spotless and well-maintained. • Excursions – Booking excursions was a seamless process, making it easy to explore beyond the resort. Cons: • Understaffed Spa – The spa was not properly staffed, making it difficult to set up treatments and enjoy a relaxing experience. • Subpar Food – The dining options were underwhelming, lacking variety and quality. • Limited Activities – Aside from the beach and pool, there wasn’t much to do at the resort itself. • Strained Check-in Process – The check-in experience felt a bit disorganized. A more welcoming and informative process would have been appreciated. There was no map of the property provided, nor was there a clear explanation of the resort’s amenities. Overall, the location and cleanliness were strong points, but the resort could use improvements in service, food quality, and organization to truly live up to its four-star rating. If you’re looking for a simple beach stay, it works, but if you want a full resort experience with great dining and activities, you m
I had booked an all inclusive and when I arrived they said only breakfast was included. We paid the extra money for the all inclusive and some meals were not included or their most popular beer (Imperial Light). I felt as if it was falsely advertised as I booked an all inclusive and feel that I paid for it twice. No American beer. The property was average in upkeep and there isn't a lot to do around the resort. Our AC kept going out and this went on for 3 days with 93 degree weather. They put us in another room one night because they didn't have the tool to fix it until the next day. But hey, we made the best of it.
I loved this place… beautiful sunsets ♥️
Very nice hotel with beautiful grounds, pool and a beautiful beach right outside the hotel. Enjoyed the sunset on the beach, and the concert at night from our balcony window.
We loved Margaritaville Costa Rica! It is right on the Playa de Flamingo which is a wonderful beach. The staff, the food, the drinks, the location & the sunsets where fabulous. We would only ask that who ever is in charge of the "pool music," please include some Jimmy Buffett songs. We where there for over two weeks and did not hear one Jimmy Buffett song over the stereo. (Fortunately, we brought our own music and small boom box.) We would definitely go back... hopefully soon. Pura Vida y tuanis mae!
Perfect small resort
I am so glad we decided to cxl our stay at the Westin and go with Margaritaville Beach Resort. Outstanding staff and service. Good food and drinks. We did All Inclusive which was a good choice for us. Amazing views from the hotel and beach. You can walk to the Playa Flamingo Marina as well. Love the pool area. Was concerned there could be too many kids in the pool area, but that was not the case during our stay. There are many things to do near the resort. I highly recommend Kayak fishing, although its best to go very early in the morning during the windy season.
Pictures on hotels.com are not what you get! Booking through the hotel.com is more expensive than through the hotel $150 less. Very disappointing. People there were awesome! Allison was awesome with the issues
We were there for 2 weeks beginning mid January 2025. Weather was hot and sunny every day. Gorgeous beach. Good live music. Only negative was the canned music, not enough Costa Rican music, way too much country music.
Needs a hot tub available to all guests, not just the spa.
Playo Flamingo Margaritaville is a tropical paradise that truly captures the essence of relaxation and fun. The vibrant atmosphere, coupled with stunning beachfront views makes it the perfect getaway for families and friends alike. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring that every guest feels welcomed and well taken care of. With delicious food, refreshing drinks, and plenty of activities to enjoy, it's a destination that guarantees unforgettable memories.
Do not expect an all inclusive resort, many food items and all beer except Imperial are an extra cost, 1 restaurant requires a reservation even with many seats open. Drinks are low quality and a little bland. The employees do not seem to follow the rules of the resort on a consistent basis making it somewhat confusing, be prepared to spend money on canopies and chairs at the beach or get up early to save chairs. We had a better time off of the resort. Most employees were good but as in some places some seemed to not want to be there. Would definitely stay somewhere different if we decided to come back.
Great location
We enjoyed our stay. I would stay here again just for the convenience to everything. Shopping, restaurants and the beach all within steps of the hotel. You don’t need a vehicle for anything.
Very disappointing. For the price it was a ripoff. House keeping was poor, amenities limited and meals quite disappointing.
Great spot on playa flamingo
We enjoyed being able to have one room for a family of 5. The food was very good in the onsite restaurant and the pool is nice and large with a bar.
The staff very helpful. Easy access to dandy beach.
The service was great. And the pool was nice. And the beach was very close. I would have liked more seafood at the hotel. And if you’re not into the late night stuff the music can be a little loud but otherwise it’s a good place
Sin elevador, pocas opciones para comer
Definitely dated property. Limited food choices. Staff is not the friendliest.
The location is right across the road from the beach, so you can havea beach day or pool day. There are great restaurants both on site and within walking distance.
Front desk were so nice
While the resort is fun not all the amenities advertised were available. We arranged for pick up at airport and someone was waiting but said we had to wait for the actual transportation. 45 minutes later we got our own taxi. When we tried to get a pedicure and manicure we were told they had no materials or people that do that even though it was listed for the spa. We tried to get boogie boards and were unable to. We took the children to the sand castle building contest area to be told the activities person was sick and the replacement person had worked the day before so could not come in. We did our own contest but it was disappointing for the kids. While everyone is nice and all is clean they do need to follow up on the small things that make a difference on vacation.
The staff was very nice.
A nice size resort. Very friendly and quality staff. Food was ok. Many walkable dining options in area. Rooms very clean and have everything. Every guest I talked to loved it there.
It’s an okay property. There were not a lot of alternative food choices for vegetarian people. The staff did try to make some accommodations. The staff in the Banana Hut were excellent. I like the area but I’m not sure if I would start at this particular location. The way the air conditioner it positioned, it blows right directly on the bed. This gave me a bit of a sore throat, but the rooms are small, so I don’t know how else they would be able to arrange the furniture. It definitely wasn’t quiet when we arrived at the property. But, this is their “branding “.
Building is dated, in dire need of renovation. Pool's murky w/ algae, sand, cracked/broken tiles. Tight bathroom w/ weak water pressure. Toilet doesn't flush all the way; toilet paper floats back up. Must flush couple of times! Raccoons & iguanas roaming the resort daily. DJ is lame; no daytime fun interactive games/events for guests to participate in. Resort plays the same music in continuous loop all day! If I don't hear another Jimmy Buffet song for a decade, I'd be grateful for small blessings! Have to cross a busy PUBLIC road to go to Flamingo Bch. Resort is 1.5 hours distance fr. Liberia Daniel airport. Not much to see via walking distance; one must drive elsewhere to see more activities, excursions or shops. Souvenir items sold @ resort gift shop & nearby mall are extremely expensive/extravagant! Go to Coco Bch. instead to buy souvenirs; it's more affordable there & local vendors are willing to lower prices if you haggle/bargain. Resort is secure, safe & quiet; located in an isolated cove; no hotels next door. NOV-DEC is quiet season w/ fewer guests. Guards on-duty 24/7 @ front/back gates. Security cameras thru out resort. W/ designated smoking areas. Beds are firm w/ fresh sheets, pillow covers & towels. Room's a/c is comfortably cold. Food's good & edible; 3 restaurants on-site w/ nice ocean view. Italian restaurant's lovely w/ excellent cuisine; wonderful service fr. Mauricio & David! All employees are friendly, welcoming, accommodating, helpful, hard @ work.
A quiet place for vacation,staff are friendly。
The only one star I took off is for food. Breakfast buffet is really limited to bread, eggs, rice, some weird options and sausage. Positive side you can order omelet at no additional charge, and there were fruits every day, that saved us. A la karte menu was okeish, nothing special but prices are high. The hotel is located right at the Flamingo Beach, it’s very convenient, service was great!
Excellent stay . Staff was excellet...Beautifully view right on the beach...highly recommended...
Nice location, friendly staff, and easy to get around.
Beautiful property right on a beach . High quality food. Amazing friendly staff. Very clean
Good hotel/resort with loads of activities.
Good nice location,, 3 restaurants available, mini gym available on site along with an indoor play area and a spa. Walking distance to beach. Nice rooms.
The resort was really lovely. Rooms were well maintained and clean. Staff were so friendly and kind. We would go back again
The staff at Margaritaville are excellent. Any questions you have or anything you need, they always come through. Omelets made for you each day and chairs brought down to the beach on request. A minute or less walk to a beautiful beach that is never crowded. Can't wait to return.
Staff was fantastic. Rooms where updated recently. Food was good. The best beach around. I recommend this place for all. 😁
The beach was great!
Property is small so missing some amenities of larger resorts. Dining options were limited but food was good. Lobby area was nice and had comfortable places to sit but they need a bar area without having to go to the pool area. Room was comfortable. Air conditioning was cold and worked great. Large shower but need a ledge or seat to be able to put shampoo, etc on.
The VERY BEST experience, the staff is so warm and welcoming, I’m a solo female traveler and I always felt safe and had everything I could have wanted Set on a beautiful beach …… Cesar, Jorge, Emily ALL the staff names I can’t remember but people I’ll never forget made my stay PERFECT See you next year! Leisa canter
Staff were professionals
Our experience at Margaritaville resort was amazing! All thanks to the staff during our breakfast dining at BANANA WIND CAFE every morning. They were all friendly, kind and so respectful. Love their service and we are very grateful.
Great location
Very good
Very good
Bath and shower was flooding on the floor. Bath need to be patch
Our stay at Margaritaville Beach Resort was wonderful. We had a fairly short trip ( 4 days and 3 nights) but it was just enough time to enjoy this quaint resort and get in some fun excursions. The people were very welcoming and the resort has a beautiful central pool/ swim up bar and you can walk right out back to the amazing blue water beach. Although it was the Rainy season, had minimal rain and it didn't stop the fun. Limited eating options but we its all inclusive -- also very nice town ( even with a Casino) within walking distance outside of the resort which we did not have time to explore ( but would certainly recommend). Resort is 1.5 from airport--and we did Buena Vista park which was a great park for exercursions ( about 2 hr drive from resort). Would certainly recommend and would return!!
Precios de restaurantes muy caros y comida de almuerzos y cenas sin sabor. Los desayunos excelentes completos y deliciosos.
Close to the beach and very safe!
The hotel was clean and attractive. Most of the meals we had were very well prepared (didn't enjoy the steak sandwich or shrimp tacos at 5OClock ). Everything at the downstairs breakfast area was very good ( tradewinds cafe?) ❤️Loved the pineapple salad with shrimp, buffalo chicken sandwich at the pool bar and dinner at Capriccios was excellent. The ease of switching between the beach and the pool was appreciated. We had the beach almost to ourselves and it was beautiful. Staff was very friendly and attentive throughout our stay. I would also recommend a walk down the beach road to coco loco. We only had drinks there, but food looked good too Location for yoga was not clear and a few people in our group missed it because the location changed from what was posted
Some of the staff was extremely nice went above and beyond, the other half were just rude. the pool is kind of gross it was always cloudy I would always see food floating around despite their efforts in cleaning the pool morning and night. only good thing is that the pool never closes
Mediocre at best
The front desk people really lacked the customer service skills required for first time visitors to a resort. They barely spoke English which was challenging, but also didn’t share details of where we could find basic amenities. They also left us waiting for 3 hours for a room. Understood that check in was at 3, but they could have done better to show us around and place us in a comfortable place while we waited for them to take EVERY MINUTE to finish our room.
If you are staying at this hotel, go simply because it is located on Flamingo Beach. That would make it worth the stay. DO NOT book the all inclusive. The food is absolutely terrible. Barely edible. We paid 200 extra per day and spend maybe 30 on one lunch and vowed to not eat at the banana wind cafe again. Worst food I’ve had in as long as I can remember. The bar staff were fine, the front desk was very hit or miss. I had a couple of staff members act rudely, we were nearly charged 40 extra dollars for misplacing our towel rental cards. Towel rental? Never heard of such a thing. We just went without towels for the stay. The location is absolutely gorgeous and I believe the only way this “resort” is able to stay in business. I’m sure there are other resorts at Playa Flamingo to choose. If you choose this one, do not get all inclusive unless you want to spend 200 a day to go off site for your meals.
Nice beach, swim up bar at the pool, game room with ping pong and pool upstairs. The pizza restaurant was really good. Also the breakfast buffet was great with lots of choice.
Love the location of the property. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Walking distance to the beach, food was good. Will recommend this place.

Amazing!
Location is amazing, right across the street from beautiful Playa Flamingo Beach. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and welcoming. The cleaning and landscaping staff did an excellent job of keeping the hotel clean and beautiful. Breakfast was Del and there were many options to choose from. Tips: a lot of items are very expensive in Costa Rica so bring a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, toiletries, etc. to avoid additional costs. We appreciated that the hotel had multiple water stations to fill up our water bottles.
The staff was amazing and very accommodating. The property was right in front of Playa Flamingo and easily accessible. The area of Playa Flamingo is away from the hustle and bustle of Tamarindo.
Food was not good at all
Need more dining options!
Hotel was old! Amenities were sub bar! No shuttle service and all inclusive does not mean all inclusive! People were great! Food was great! Will never stay again!
Only unhappy part of trip was that they placed us in a room on second floor and no elevator, me and my husband both have knee issues and had difficulties getting up the stairs.
This was a good all inclusive property. There were lots of excursions to choose from and they all picked up from the hotel. They even had a sunset tour in the boat owned by the property. Food was good - the restaurant that required reservations was the best. Overall very pleased!
I like it that it is close to the beach and security is good. The TV is always blurry and also the electric is cutting off
Right on the beach, good food
I enjoyed the staff. They were amazing. From the front desk to any around the pool and any whenever you requested anything. I paid for all inclusive. It was easier to do that than to do a lot of walking with my husband because he has bad knees. The breakfasts are tolerable, the saving grace were the made to order omelets. The food gets cold sitting in the trays and there aren't any microwaves to warm them up. The lunch was FANTASTIC. The reservation only Italian place left a whole lot to be desired. I guess i was expecting more upscale Italian and less dollar store olive garden. I felt like there could have been more entertainment than there was, i mean, IT'S MARGARITAVILLE. There should have been a dj during the evenings or something to that affect. We had one guy on Thursday that dang at the sports bar. He did a great job. I guess the did and the lack of things to do AT the resort are my complaints. Everything else was perfect
The resort was nice.... rooms and amenities are out dated for what they charge. The food was ok... we opted out of the all inclusive and explored around the resort...the travel service they use for excursions was AMAZING (swiss travel).....what makes me give them 4 stars is how nice and friendly the staff are...
The hotel is a little OUTDATED. But very clean. If you are interested in the food for All inclusive. This is NOT ur spot. I KNEW from the reviews so opted not to get it. So happy I didnt as the food options are slim and EXPENSIVE. If you’re a drinker then go for it but u may still need to go out for food. There are plenty of places near to walk and get food. Not much to do here at the hotel as the activities are slim and the music at the pool is so low it’s like someone is playing music from a iPad.. there will be little to nothing to do here at night. If you want a nice family vacation with the kids this is for u, but single wanting to chill at night not ur spot. By the way there was never ever Hot water in our room, I called for maintenance one day and they came and he turned the water in and said no. So don’t expect hot water… again everyone was nice and friendly and the place is clean and safe.. the pics are online are heavily filtered. Lastly the advertise 3 pools… I asked because I never seen 3 pools and I was told the 3rd pool is for the presidential suite
Nice place but getting out dated and needing repairs. Staff was not always cordial. VERY limited menu options and bars did not open until late morning and beverages were never top shelf. You paid extra for that. Italian restaurant was good but you had to make reservations each morning by 7:00 or you didn’t get in.
Yes great stafr and good.
Was nice but very hot.
We had to take Uber everywhere. Acc as to the beach was nice
I liked the property’s closeness to the beach and to the marina. Dislikes - bed size in the room, dated shower, low water pressure. Limited food choices, 1 pool and no hot tub, limited activities for the kids onsite, all inclusive included bottom of the barrel drinks, and hotel refused refund after I got sick with food poisoning and elected to shorten my trip as a result.
I was skeptical based on other reviews but my two daughters and I loved Margaritaville! I’m certain there are more upscale resorts but we found the staff to be excellent, the facilities to be beautiful, and the location was great! We only ate breakfast here each day (lots of options and decent food) and we had dinner in the restaurant next to the pool once. That food was OK but not great. There are wonderful restaurants within walking distance and even more if you drive a short distance. The door to our room shut hard but that was the only thing that felt like it could be better in regards to our room. The pool was great. The sunsets were amazing. My girls loved renting boogie boards for the beach. The security was excellent. We walked down the beach to a restaurant for dinner one night. As we walked back in the dark onto the property from the beach side a security guard approached us, looked for our resort bands and then welcomed us back. Walking across the road to the beach was a non issue. It’s a tiny road that traffic drives very slowly on. My 11 and 13 year old daughters crossed it many times by themselves. And again, it appears to be monitored by security 24/7 to ensure guests are safe and no non-guests enter. The parking lot is also in a great location and is monitored by a security guard 24/7. Certain hours of the day they have a block up and you show your wristband or provide your name/room number to get in.
Relaxing beach vacation
Great beach, friendly staff and comfortable jr. suite. When we arrived there were some problems in the bathroom but staff took care of them fast. We enjoyed our visit. You need a car to get around otherwise you don't have access to other things.

We loved staying here! The view to the beach was so beautiful and so easy to get to. The resort itself offered all the things. Main dining room was great and the staff was soooo nice! My husband hurt his foot pretty bad in the ocean and the staff let us borrow the crutches they had and told us where a pharmacy to get other supplies we needed. The only hard part was staying on the ocean front view room at night - the ocean was sooo loud and would wake us up every night due to the big waves crashing. We even use white noise and still got woken up. Other then that we loved our stay and would stay there again!!
