Nice Stay
Nice, older place. Very clean.
Pros - The town itself is quaint and quiet. Very walk-able. The Hotel itself is a bit old style - but quiet well laid out. You can walk to the town center in 5-7 mins. where you have a handful of restaurants, Coffee shops and grocery stores. The Thai restaurant is good - fresh food with friendly staff. The hotel staff is good and accommodating. Cons - The rooms are old and don't have ACs. So if you need hot or cold - you just need to adjust and adapt. The bathrooms are also old, and can have stains etc. They do offer breakfast - but its below par. They offer sugar laden syrupy fruits. No fresh fruits or fresh juices. The egg, bread, cereal, milk and fruit options are limited and canned.
Nice compact room
Nice place to see stars at night. Good breakfast also. Staff are friendly.
Plenty of parking on site
It’s a good location .
An adequate room, although tired fittings suggest that a renovation might be in order. Good restaurant and buffet.
Very outdated - guessing it was built in the 70’s and needs a full remodel. Hollow doors made us able to hear everything in hallways. Patio had no chairs so not really usable. Bed coverrs old and outdated.
The property is clean but not very modern. Has a bit of an old /chalet like touch to it. The breakfast spread definitely limited with no only sweetened/syrupy fruits. There are no made to order eggs. The service staff - front desk and the restaurant are all very friendly and courteous. The location of the hotel is perfect - right in the middle of the small town, 3-4 minutes of walking distance from the center of the town where local grocery store and restaurants are at. Self parking in front of the hotel structure is very convenient. The town itself is quaint, peaceful and beautiful. You can also rent bicycles from front desk if you like. Night sky/star gazing options around 8-10 minutes drive from the hotel is also a good option to explore.Would stay here again for sure !!
Tired hotel catering for coach trips. Cooked breakfast poor.
convenient location Corridors dingy, could benefit from artwork/posters Corridor carpet joins need fixing urgently Bathroom getting shabby, plug in our bathroom basin room didn't work. Room 110
Big rooms, clean, friendly staff
Dated. Not terribly friendly. Not well maintained
A bit old but comfortable and cost effective. We didn’t love the shower bath, but staff were nice and parking was easy.
The staff had difficulties adding an extra night to the reservation and supplying a king-sized bed as requested.
It’s okay when you don’t have many options
Nice property with spacious rooms and handy location!!
The staff were lovely. Made sure I felt comfortable in the lobby while my husband hiked that morning.
Good
Great view from balcony. Good choice of food at restaurant. Noisy heating. Spilled coffee stains at door
Does the job. Overdue for a refurbishment. Stayed warm in the middle of winer which was great
Nice view of snow
No electric blankets Noisey fan style heater had to be on at night as was -3 so slept terrible both nights Shower not great Nice building but needs updating
Tv did not work. Asked reception to come and fix but no reply. Also no telephone connected in room.
Property is older but staff is awesome and the food was really good for both the dinner and breakfast buffet. Beds were comfortable.
Clean & tidy rooms, although a little dated. Food was great & staff were friendly.
Lovely relaxing stay
Reception staff quite snippy. Landline ph in room didnt work.
Nice stay
The staff was very friendly and very helpful. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. Nearby the hotel there is a food truck that sells very nice cod fish. Next to the food truck you could get the delicious pizza with generous fillings.
Spacious room. Convenient stop en route to Wanaka
Best hotel for stopover on way to Queenstown
We travelled to Queenstown for work at least twice a year and it is a good half way point for us to stopover without driving over 6 hours straight. We always enjoyed their dinner buffet. The interior does look tired but clean. The room has 2 queen beds + 1 single and a bonus bath. Very good value for money for a short layover.
Needs an upgrade but good food n service
The dinner offerings are plentiful and breakfast buffet very good. Bar service and reception also VG. Rooms are tired and the hotel needs an upgrade or two e.g. water flow in shower awful
The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Hotel was outdated yet clean and comfortable.
Area around the property was full of nature and vast, breakfast served was very nice, however facility itself was very old and wasn't well maintained. Definitely not worth what we paid. Staff at the check in wasn't so friendly. Overall average.
Not bad
Extremely comfortable.
Ein sehr schönes Zimmer
Ideal place for a one night stopover, when touring New Zealand
Large comfortable room
Average accommodation
Our hotel room was clean and spacious and the bed was quite comfortable. We found the room was too warm at night and needed an air conditioner or at least a ceiling fan. There was no drinking water so the kettle has to be filled in the bathroom. The buffet meal was good basic kiwi food but over-priced for what it was. The staff member at reception was lovely but the ones in the dining room seemed rather unfriendly and disinterested.
Nice and spacious but bathroom need updating
Room was nice and very spacious. Bathroom needs a renovation though. I am 6’2” and the shower head was at my neck level.
Comfortable. A bit dated. Needs fan in room!
Room is clean, comfortable but a bit dated. Unfortunately there is no fan or air conditioners. Temperature was 22 degrees Celsius during daytime but at night the room was still too warm for my comfort. Must be quite busy the night before as the rooms was not ready for half an our after checked in! Sat in the lounge waiting and reception was supposed to inform me when ready but did not!
The rooms were clean, just very outdated and worn. The linens were newer and clean. Twizel also has a good variety of restaurants to choose from that are a very short drive away.
Wouldn’t stay here again
The service at the restaurant was very good and the salmon was amazing! But everything else about this stay was pretty horrible. The sink didn’t drain (was digusting), the beds were not comfortable and smelled when we go to the hotel. You had 20 minutes of hot water until you had to wait 2 hours for it to be hot again. We only stayed a night and must say we were happy to leave. Honestly have stayed in better hostels….
No elevator! You have to take your bags on the 1st floor yourselves! No helper. No A/C!
It’s a small town with few places to stay. This is probably the best of the bunch. However this property could benefit from an update. Flooring, paint and bathrooms are the areas most in need of improvement.
Surprisingly good stay.built many decades ago it is surpringly comfortable ,breakfast was good with all the usual staples. Rooms were large. Would stay again
The place was a little dated. The town was fine, but not very interesting.
With thanks to Distinction Mackenzie Country Hotel
We have stayed here before and the rooms, amenities, staff professionalism and response to any issues with warmth and efficiency is first class. I recommend this accommodation venue highly to any traveller, be it for business or touring this amazing countryside.
10/10 A bit dated but overall it is very comfy. Great queen beds x2 in the room. Very spacious and very clean.
It was ok pretty clean. A little noisy. Reasonable value for money though
The rooms are very outdated, bathtub broken, door broken, cups dirty, hallway dirty,... Front desk staff very nice, rooms very spacious, lots of free parking.
Nice place to stop on the way south.
Shower head leaked but to fair, i didnt report it because my stay was short and i was leaving in a hurry so i didnt menton it to the staff

Great budget option. Spacious. Friendly staff.
Very comfortable and spacious room. Good dinner and hearty breakfast.
Big room, very comfortable, easy parking. Close to the city with 10 minutes walk.
The water pressure in the shower was inadequate to put it gently, and everything seemed quite outdated. However, it was clean, fairly comfortable, and the price was pretty good.
Rooms need alot of upgrades, The overall property could be a really high grade hotel if the rooms get upgraded. Bed was too hard. Firm but with a comfort layer, not like I am sleeping on the floor. Not enough lighting in the room, ie downlights.
Comfy but tired property
Exterior looks awesome, but inside is a bit tired. Overall room condition is clean but old. Comfortable enough for 1 night stay.
Amazing place to stay with family. Staff cared and waited for the our late check in. Thanks for the prompt communication ans support....
It’s a nice but old property in twizel, close to pretty much everything. Hotel does not have air conditioning but we didn’t need it once we opened windows in early Jan
Nice large room with two double beds worked for us
It was very clean and staff friendly . Also quite quiet noise wise
Very clean & spacious room
Good
Could invest in some air conditioning but otherwise great
Open Christmas day!
Dated but comfortable
A very dated hotel but still comfortable. Room needs upgrading, some peeling wallpaper and the bath felt like it may fall through! Breakfast was not good though, defo do the short walk into the small town and get something there instead.
Very comfortable stay, bed was good, room clean, very quiet location
Good location, an old room with outdated furniture
Friendly team, an old room with outdated furniture, no furniture on the patio, and weak water flow in the shower.
Bon endroit où rester
Serait mieux s'il y avait un micro-onde. Restaurant affreusement didpendieux 54$ pour un buffet. Aucun privilège associé au statut de membre. Tout de même un très bon endroit où rester.
our room was large and spacious, very clean and well maintained. bathroom very good and clean. parking outside and the hotel is close to the eatingboptions available in Twizel. the hotel has a very nice kounge and dinning room. all in all a great hotel. thanks, we would stay again.
It is very old hotel. Everything is old including beds, furniture, shower facility.
Big and nice room
Lovely staff
Nice big room. No toaster provided
Staff very friendly, accommodating, and helpful.
Good place to stay.

This was an alpine retreat that is part modern, part stuck in the past. The staff were excellent and Jack the cat adopted by the hotel was cute. The room had fresh carpet and paint that was all the modern touches which gave it a quaint old feel but some elements were too worn out and need updating. The bathroom was original, the shower head too low for anyone over 5ft tall and the bathroom door didn't close properly. The hair dryer looked tired and proved to be unsafe when it sparked flames from the handle and burnt my wrist. The staff were very apologetic and provided first aid. Quaint and dated can be charming and fun, but in my opionion some updates are required for comfort and safety.
Staff were extremely helpful when we discovered that we had booked the wrong date and went out of their way rearranged things for us and find us a room for the night
Really love the buffet dinner. This is where we will always stop as a half way point between christchurch and Queenstown.
Lovely staff and good location for local food trucks
Beautiful buffet dinner.
Room was generously sized and beds comfortable. A compendium in the room covering features of the hotel and surroundings would have been helpful. Also, it was surprising only to have terrestrial channels on the room tv. Sky tv is the expected norm these days. Buffet dinners were very good with good variety.
Our second stay here. First stay was 14 years ago. The rooms are big and clean. Parking is more than ample when we were there. Breakfast's standard unfortunately dropped from my first visit there. I could not recall if we had dinner at the hotel then but I can remember the breakfast because it was delicious. The variety now was not as many and the cooking for both breakfast & dinner was sub-par. Next time we will have breakfast at Twizel town instead. The food is the key downside. As there were alternative places for breakfast and dinners I will still recommend this property.
Room was a bit dated
Every winter my wife and I drive down to do a weekend of fishing at the canals, and this is our go to place to stay. The staff are friendly and the rooms are always spotless.
very friendly staff. She gave us good advice on where to go in a limited time frame. The hotel is quiet and warm.
Was really nice
Great room and very helpful staff
All and all pretty good. Room just wasn’t ready on time
Thanks for your hospitality. We all enjoyed the stay with you.
Misleading ad
Room was comfortable and spacious. Parking right at the door which is very handy. Not enough towels or crockery for number of guests booked. Mentioned at reception for second night, an extra towel was supplied but no extra crockery, and what we used wasn’t washed. Advertised as having a restaurant, which was why we had booked it, as we had been travelling all day and didn’t want to have to go out to find something for dinner. It wasn’t open either of the two nights we were there, this should be mentioned in the listing.
Great stay, excellent service at the buffet breakfast.
Great place. Friendly people and comfy beds.
From reading previous reviews and room details I expected an old 1970s style room and therefore was not surprised. It had the basics. What was glaringly missing was an introduction package in the room explaining the Hotel procedures, heating etc and local attractions. The bedding was not warm enough without a heater as well and getting the heater to function was a trip to the past ! The bathroom could do with a rail for the handtowels. The space for tea making was very small and the housekeeping did not clean the area when they refilled. The room itself is spacious and a small kitchenette would easily fit. The price charged was too much in comparison to other hotels i have stayed in with more modern facilities. We enjoyed our stay nonetheless and the view we were given was awesome.
We had a convenient stay during our travel in the mount Cook region.
