Location, great service
Very good
It was. Good visit
Nice for the price but very noisy aircon kept me awake.
Called to inform Lylo that our flight to Auckland from Utah ran into bird engine problem and would be arriving early February 6th morning. It was guaranteed prepaid reservation. Left a message and no return call. Got to the property early Feb. 6th morning and no room available for quick rest before embarking on a cruise ship. Clerk informed me that reservation was cancelled. Well, why no response to phone call and message. We were so busy yesterday. How about guaranteed options to my sleepless flight into Auckland ? I will contact my credit card company to dispute the advance prepaid charge. Thanks !
Great location, clean, roomy place.
The rooms were small and damp with no ventilation and only a fan for temperature control.
A fantastic hostel, great location and great staff.
Good location and cheap
Auckland Lylo
Lovely start with a friendly travel guide. Very clean, well organized, safety with keycards. Only odd thing was bed was King sized but the light switch was on one side and then in the middle of the bed. Otherwise everything was fabulous!
Strange that there is no oven - would be useful
Funky, clean and comfortable, affordable, great staff. Terrific location, and facilities for all.
Outstanding. The pod bunks give privacy, darkness, convenience with sockets, storage nets etc & comfort. Bathrooms are continually cleaned, kitchen area is huge & staff other best to keep on top when done residents don’t understand what clean as you go means. This is a great hostel in the heart of downtown just 10 mins walk from the bus station.
Okay if you’re sharing a room I guess
I booked a private room with ensuite and was disappointed. There were no windows, the sheets were synthetic and the bed was just okay. Otherwise the room was fine but way overpriced compared to other private options in the city.
I was surprised there was no window, but the TV showed a live rooftop view so that was like having a window. Everything else was great. Perfect location to downtown and bus stop.
Location is good
Clean and modern but could improve.
Very clean and modern with good facilities. However common bathrooms and toilet missing soap. Good kitchen fascilities but refrigerator packed with no room left. Not sure it was emptied regularly.
We found this much better than your average hostel and also quieter than we expected. We stayed in a private room rather than a pod, and found that to be very comfortable. Good location, well priced for what you get and decent amenities.
Easy booking and check in. Friendly staff, bar / food downstairs was great
Awesome accomodation
Good central location, easy to find, very convenient with restaurant and bar, helpful staff, would highly recommend.
Everything g was great. Unusual not to have a wi Dow in the room but easy climate control made it work just fine.
I was soooo disappointed with Lylo, I booked 2 queen rooms in feb which I was told I could pay on arrival....2 fukin days later they took the funds out of my credit card Lylo blamed Expedia and Expedia blamed Lylo FFS arrived yeaterday for Pearl Jam concert and was told I had 1 queen room and 1 double and told I would get a refund ok wasnt gunna make a fuss, but then was told to get my refund to contact Expedia, do you know how hard that is and the amount of effort involved for probably $20 refund was so upset with this whole service and situatikn, will not use Expedia or Lylo again, very dissapointed let down, and totally dissatisfied with the whole process
Great vibe and great facilities
Central location Walkable downtown
My roommates were lovely, staff were so helpful and very nice. I’ve never stayed in a hostel before but if I do I’ll certainly book there again.
Overall the stay was amazing. Online check-in. Kitchen and shared places very clean. As feedback the pod weren't isolated at all and you could hear everything. But the bed was a good size. Bigger than expected.
Hotel won’t allow to check in early even for 30 minutes early!
loved it! :)
Family stay
The staff was well coming and happy to help. The bed could do with a new mattress. However value for money well worth it
Awesome staff. Loved the place
Affordable af and the easiest check in/check out customer service!!!
No one around when I needed help with check-in, which let down what was otherwise a great stay. Room was great, as were the facilities
.
Exceeded all expectations! Amazing staff, clean facilities, comfortable pods. Will be booking again the second I return to Auckland!

Great stay. My capsule was well equipped with dual USB-A/C ports and not a speck of dust in sight. This place is beyond clean - like the love child of Ikea and a Japanese capsule hotel. I don’t really have any negatives to speak of. They have daily activities (some paid, some free), a huge kitchen with a much welcomed free food basket, and a cheap cafe/bar with a nice 10% discount to make it even cheaper. Nothing to complain about here.
Mostly positive!
The pros: My Queen Ensuite was excellent, similar to a room at a Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, or Four Points. Surprisingly comfortable, if not a bit expensive considering its peers in the same price range. However, though there are several cheaper options for the same room type, they are primarily older hotels, and the LyLo is as new, clean, and inviting as they come. If they’d just decrease their rates a bit, it’d be well near perfect. Cons: No bus stop near the property, so it’s a bit of a walk, but not terrible (6-10 minutes). Inconvenient if you’re in a hurry, but I managed just fine. Staff are a mixed bag - some amazing, some average, and some beyond checked out and disinterested. I’ve managed several staff and I can safely say the manager here needs to do a performance review on some of the youngest of the crew, but otherwise this was an excellent stay.
MUCH BETTER than your typical hostel
Excellent capsule-style hostel with the most privacy you can hope for in a shared living arrangement. Capsules are well ventilated with an integrated fan, and the bedding was impeccably clean. Let’s face it - most hostels are stinky, and pretty gross. This one is an exception to that rule. From the rooms to the common areas to the bar/restaurant, everything was fresh, clean, and inviting. Good to see them putting on events and daily tours/activities - there was a lot to do, and some pretty good specials in the excellent Miss Lucy pub. Overall, this is Scandinavia-level comfort (IYKYK) and it’ll be my first pick when travelling to Auckland.
Lovely, spacious private room! Super comfortable bed and pillows. Very walkable area and the staff are so helpful. Love that there’s always an event the staff put on in case you run out of ideas on what to do. :)
Miss Lucys is fun and the place is a convenient walk to CBD
Clean, roomy, comfortable queen studio, just perfect for my solo over-nighter. Staff were friendly and helpful.
All good
I love Lylo, have stayed here a few times and always have a great experience. Staff are always friendly and accommodating, great location, car park next door and a bar joined to the hostel (a nice bar too not a grotty hostel bar). The pod beds mean it isn’t the most social hostel but they make up for this with all the events they run and the day trips they have started organising. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else whenever I come to Auckland again!
Friendly, helpful staff. Clean, neat room
The pods were very comfortable. I also felt very safe with the key card entry.
the room was exactly as pictured, lovely and clean. However I didn’t realize there were no windows
Great place to stay
Just the best place to stay for travellers. Everyone is super friendly and the vibes are immaculate. The food and discounts you get if you're staying there is great and the trip booking helpers are elite. Washing and drying facilities are perfect and easy to use. Rooms are all great.
I liked the privacy of the pods. They should give the bottom pod to older people though During my stay, I had to ask for toilet paper twice so it was an issue … All the dispensers were empty.
Met so many great people! Felt safe, and for a girl who is 5'11 the pods were pretty spacious!
Location , price, cleanliness and friendly staff were all great - would recommend it.
The pods are great but a bit warm due to minimal airflow. I had to slide the privacy partition open at night to stay cool. There is an exhaust fan but it is small and there isn’t much air flow.
Best hostel I've been too!
Great place to stay very clean and modern, but also well organised too. Fantastic queen room with lots of space and facilities. Only negative was design of shower tray, would overflow sometimes but this is a tiny issue. All staff really really helpful. Would have liked a later checkout time than the 1pm extra I paid for, but understand required to get the room clean for next stay. Would definitely stay again and recommend.
As someone 185 cm tall, the pods were a bit too short and I needed to either be diagonal or bend my legs to fit. The pods are also very hot and only have a very loud small fan that blows very little air from the also hot room. I ended up leaving my door cracked but there is also an always on light in the room that we can’t turn off. Other than the pod, the toilets and showers were nice and clean.
Great location , clean and helpful staff
All Good
Cost effective and close to harbour for the Red Bull Cliff Diving event.
New and well looked after room, but was a little bit weird getting used to zero natural light in the room. The Queen double with private en suite was in great condition and cleaned well during stay. Check in was easy, although would’ve appreciated someone showing where could use kitchen facilities. Restaurant next door very good quality. Overall good for the price paid in Auckland.
Great
Pros - clean and comfortable with easy check in/out. - good kitchen to cook in and store food. - nice chill out areas. - lots of available tours and assistance with bookings etc. Cons - room had no window so a bit dark and hard to get up without natural light. - our floor had only 3 showers but I think some rooms were en-suite as we never had to wait.
Lylo is clean hostel offering a very social atmosphere. I stayed here for a few nights during the new year and found the space to be adequate. Personally, I was a bit put off by some of the front desk staff who seemed annoyed by being asked questions or just not very friendly. Overall, a good place to stay for a quick visit.
Cute wee vibe. Was quiet didnt hear other guests. Close to CBD was all we needed for our weekend away.
I liked the private pod
The pod doesn't have adequate ventilation, the fan wasn't cutting it so I had to sleep with the door partially open. The sanitary bins in all the toilets I used were so full they were almost overflowing, but facilities were otherwise fairly clean.
Great place
Great location. Everyone seems friendly and easy going. Bar staff downstairs are helpful and welcoming. Rooms were quiet and dark - had the best sleep in ages. Loved it all.
The room was a queen en-suite and it was very updated and clean. It was a convenient location with a good price.
Great sleep in a quiet room.
Clean, good size rooms for what it is. Common area's are spacious with plenty of seating. At times it didn't particularly feel like you were in a hostel
It was so good!!! Great value. Nice clean tidy and Miss lucy was a great vibe
.
Everything good
The place is amazing, so clean. Staffs are super helpful and friendly. Only thing is the people around slamming doors loudly. Otherwise it’s great.
It had several pluses. Having an eatery and bar on site was a plus. The lobby and eatery area were welcoming and convenient for newcomers as a retreat. It was easier to settle in and chill out after a long day. The kitchen allowed for the storage of food items but didn't allow for cooking beyond the hot plate level. The community events were good for encouraging social interaction among residents. More things like trivia night would be great. The bathroom and shower facilities were clean, but the space for toiletries while using them left much to be desired. The front desk was available and willing to help as long as they knew you were coming. If you have to check in late, LET THEM KNOW IN ADVANCE. Pay laundry services were easy through the front desk. Wifi was good in the building. Negatives: This complaint appears in other reviews, but the pod system has inadequate ventilation and cooling. In the four pod rooms and the eight pod rooms in which I stayed, other residents had to ask for extra fans in the pod to deal with this issue. During times when there was a rush or a lot of patrons, the restaurant and bar were ill-equipped to handle the volume of guests. Suggestions: If you have multiple electronics and need more than two NZ plugs, two USBs, and one C cable port, you might want to bring a charge port expander that works with your specific electronics from your country. If you plan to use the bathing facilities, be sure to bring your own towels otherwise, you pay.
Great place to stay!
Loved this property, perfect for what we needed. Comfy beds, modern , nice bathroom facilities both private and shared. Great vibe to the place. Bar/restaurant on site but also excellent food options across the road. Vending machine for drinks & snacks. $20 uber to Spark Arena Highly recommend!
The place was good in general, it’s clean and noticeably new. The room however, was small. The room description says we can control the room temp but we actually couldn’t. It could get chilly or really hot. Female staff here are very cold and unapproachable. They’ll keep you standing there at the reception and wait till they’re done chatting. They can see you waiting there to be assisted but it’s like you don’t exist. Overall, it’s a decent place to stay short term.

Great!
Great location and the room was lovely and comfortable.
