Great friendly and relaxed ambience!
Lone pine is a nice place to stay for a quiet vacation, some extra pool chairs wouldn’t go astray… the room had a very mouldy smell due to humidity and constant air conditioning and they tried to help with a different room but they were all the same - they could try cleaning the air con filters… breaky was good, staff were nice but limited English… they had lots of meetings and a wedding while we were there which was a slight inconvenience but, when you pay for a boutique hotel you expect a bit more… they strangely locked the gates onto the beach - one night all of them were locked…. While breaky was ok and there pool/bar menu adequate there is no restaurant at this hotel which means you have to go out for dinner…
Returned for another stay at Lone Pine as we enjoyed our previous one with family. Overall great as before and we requested for the highest floor this time. Prefer the view and quietness on the 1st floor
Great relaxing quiet resort with super friendly staff
Lovely staff
The hotel itself is nice, but the found after checkout that the staff gave me the wrong number of deposit… very unprofessional
My family had a lovely staycation. Peaceful and enjoyed the pool. Had some small issue at check in however staff did their best to arrange for us. Will definitely here.
This is nice and clean. Staff is very helpful and friendly. The distance to town is a little far though. A nice food court with local food nearby.
Great beach resort with night market nearby
Very nice resort style accommodation, modern and very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location is good for the night markets and some restaurant options.
We had a great time in Batu Ferringhi and at the hotel Staff were friendly and very polite An enjoyable stay
Attentive and very friendly staff in all areas. Beautiful pool with good facilities. Located right on the beach. Plenty of food options and very short walk to even more choice. Had a lovely stay here. Would definitely return.
Wonderful, wonderful wonderful. A really lovely place to stay.
Dated but relaxing.
Lovely location right on the beach front. The hotel is slightly dated but offers everything you’d need for a relaxing stay.
Nice and quiet
Nice staff, good location, peaceful , good breakfast
The resort itself is good for rest and relax for those who are looking for a break especially for city dwellers. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Great hotel and convenient for beach and restaurants
Property is well maintained, clean and quiet. Beautiful pine trees and near beach. Free breakfast.
Had the best of time during my 3 nights stay. The breakfast was great, the pool area was great, and we had quality sleeps. Definitely will come again.
Nice place
We have a pleasant and comfortable stay.
Hotel check in
Hotel entrance and lobby very poor plus not easy to check in
The room is very cozy and spacious
Excellent experience but not for hotel breakfast
Everything was great except for hotel breakfast, the bread provided wasnt fresh, limited choice ,not worth the price.
Reception staffs was not wearing their face mask in proper way during pandemic. Services was not up to 4-star standard. Not price worthy.
Pleasent stay.. beach are clean.. will come back again.
Excellent Facilities and Staff, Best location for the beach. The most friendly and helpful General Manager.
Service level is good but the condition of the hotel is disappointing. The building is old, cleanliness is bad as many ants crawling in the room including toilet, sofa and almost everywhere. There was a bad smell from the main drain hole surrounded the hotel.
Getting better, slowly
Some improvements have been incorporated after our last visit two years ago, but much more needs to be done. Renovated rooms very good, but there is a real lack of hanging space. The swimming pool shower is really dangerous, with the concrete edges sinking into the ground, this was pointed out to Francoise the manager two years ago. However the staff are very friendly and helpful, if no under trained. All rooms have a sea view, and this boutique hotel, should be on your must stay list.
Staff are very helpful and pleasant. Pool is very good being nice for swimming or just chilling. Breakfast choice is excellent. Perfect location for night market, restaurants, bus stop, taxi rank, beach and everything else.
The bedrooms are very modern and of good design - spacious and bright with a large balcony overlooking the pool (room 316 top floor). The bungalow dining area is very old and in need of modernisation. Wooden tables/chairs chipped and old-fashioned and many of the chairs which had cream covers on them looked in need of washing. Buffet breakfast was OK with freshly cooked eggs and noddles to order but overall barely 3 star.
Designed for a beach holiday
Great location. Enjoyed the pool and breakfast. The downstairs public areas are designed to capture the sea breeze.
The overall look and features of the room were 10/10. Lone pine is stunning, much more beautiful then the other hotels. We love the hotel.. Natural environment, privacy from the main beach. The room is large with balcony over looking the gardens. Breakfast is superb plus Jeeva and the team although the restaurant is busy and keep helping the guest needed. Front office team, Housekeeping team and whole lone pine team is really taking care us. We will come again for our next holiday.
It is a historic hotel by the beach, extended multiple times. The rooms sizes are huge and comfortable but the bathrooms need an update and clean. The market eatery on the side of the hotel was convenient but a bit noisy at night. The restaurant staff were friendly but undertrained. Plates were not cleared efficiently at breakfast and the crockery was old.
This is a nice and relaxed hotel by the beach. It's not on the level of Shangri-la and that is reflected in the price. Room has been updated and is modern. Breakfast could be better.
Not a boutique hotel. Not so well maintained and cleanliness leaves much to be desired. Does not deserve 5 stars.
This was a great spot for relaxation. The amenities ensured a very comfortable stay
I loved everything about this hotel. It's a beautiful property right on the beach and it's very well-maintained. Our room was very clean, comfortable and spacious, and I loved that it opened out to views of the ocean and yet still retained your privacy. I loved the pool - I could spend all day there. The breakfast buffet was very, very good - there was a good variety of quality food, so not your basic fare. And finally, I was most impressed by the staff. They were incredibly friendly, polite, attentive and I could see they took great pride in their work. 5 stars all around.
Love da bed n da pillow..
Always in my favourite list
Lone Pine is always my first choice when i consider staying at batu ferringhi because there have a private pool at the balcony. After having kids this is very convenience for parents as kids can enjoy themselves in any time and the pool all by themself.
Feel like home. Come and visit, yo will experience it.
Overall, my stay was superb.. Spacious & clean room.. the balcony also clean.. serene place to relax and re-energize youself.. i love it and definitely will come again..
LOVED this hotel! Absolutely gorgeous and stunning scenery. Lone pine met its criteria, minus the cleanliness. It kinda lacked in that area, one of my pillows had blood strain on it. Other than that, everything else was great. The staff were friendly and helpful, always ready to assist. The amenities were great! They provide complementary drinks in the minibar, which I wasn’t informed of until the second last day! Location is great, it’s walking distance to get food near by and massage parlour but a little far from George town
Love everything about this hotel
Spacious room, superd interior, cozy bedding, quiet, tranquility. Loving the plunge pool at the balcony, with beach view & sound
The hotel was facing to the sea, the facility and the atmosphere were good. We arrived at the hotel at noon and finished the check-in process. The receptionist told us that they would call us when the room was ready. However, when we came back to the hotel at 3 o'clock because of the call, the room was not cleaned. Then we had to wait another one hour in the very hot whether. The staff members were not professional. Moreover, after we entered the room, had towels and coffee cups were not there and we had to call for them. The security box was out of order.
Good location, nice spacious room with balcony. Check the outlook of your room before you move in. Ours overlooked another building which was disappointing. Need new chairs around pool. On site toilet facilities need to be better maintained
Our new favourite hotel in Penang. Rooms are nice and large and makes good use of space. Tubs in the balcony are a nice touch. However our room had a lot of ants so could do with some pest control. Don't expect much on the F&B front. Options are limited even at breakfast buffet. Feels a bit understaffed as we were there on a weekday but still had to wait for baggage assistance and dining service. Overall good hotel with a lot more privacy compared to the 2 Shangri Las that flank the beach and great for families with young kids who want a bit more peace and quiet.
The place is serene for those who wants a quiet place to relax.
Excellent hotel in a quite setting close to beach and markets
spacious room love the balcony bathtub....
Charming British colonial era bungalow as the venue for breakfast. Environment was relaxing with great service from the attentive staff.
Good hotel but lots of room for improvement
This is my third stay at this hotel but my first time as part of a couple's short break. Parts of the hotel are newly refurbished and in good condition. However, some parts of it- such as the Batu Bar- is looking a bit tired and in need for some updating. Overall, the service in the bar could be a lot better. Two nights, we had to go find someone to pour us a drink. The bar was simply not manned. We also saw another couple help themselves to drinks behind the bar, knowingly shrugged at us and walked back to their room. I really like the pool as it's not designed as a children's pool like some of the other bigger-name hotels around the area. The room we had- which was large room with a king bed and an adjoining smaller room with a day bed- was fantastic. I particularly liked the layout of the ensuite which was generous and allowed you to move around comfortably. The room service staff was friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast had a good range and was tasty but just wasn't blow-your-mind excellent, especially when you consider all the amazing food you can find on this little island. We avoided the beach as it just wasn't that great. Not far from the hotel, a we saw a digger digging out what appeared to be an attempt to drain a sewer stream into the sea. That completely put us off from even thinking about going into the sea.
Everything including the rooms, facilities, atmosphere, surroundings and staff is perfect for a relax-and-chill vacation. Came here for a wedding and didn’t expect the place to be so beautifully designed and presented. Would definitely come back here again if I were to visit Penang again for a getaway and to see the country. Highly recommended if you’re looking for an easy and free hotel resort to spend some quality time with loved ones or friends :)
Fantastic deluxe sea facing room with a sitting room, bedroom, balcony with sunken bath, 2 large screen tvs and a big bathroom. Lovely pool area
PEACE AND RELAX
Room cleaness need to improve
The all staff were attentive and friendly. Everything was perfect. We completely enjoyed our stay!!! Special "Thank you " to Anabel, who was very professional and helpful.
Beautiful swimming pool and nice cold beer and a good location.
Room is spacious and clean, front desk is very friendly and always carries with a smile. However, the breakfast needs to be improve especially the cold cut area, can always see some small flies around these cold cut, cheeses and fruits
Loving the serenity of the area. Manager & Staff are all helpful and friendly. Privacy and quiet compared to other area. Clean beach.
Great service. Nice view
be back again and again
have been 3 times before to this hotel has had a revamp and is more stylishbut service friendly staff grat breakfast the some luv luv luv our stay here will be back ton and bec illarietti
Well presented and well managed and run. Great facilities and with direct access to the beach.
Top notch stay
Amazing place and service! Must come back here. I recommend to anyone who wants to have superb service and enjoy the beautiful beach
Rooms clean nice and comfortable and staff brilliant with us very helpful at all times whould definitely recommend for anybody
Top notch service, elegant grounds, well worth it
Absolutely wonderful attentiveness, was there for my birthday and they brought decorations and cupcakes to my room! Thank you! Beautiful grounds with hammocks and lovely trees, room was top notch with local touches (sarongs to borrow in the bathroom, alongside your robes). Buffet breakfast was plentiful and tasty, and some monkeys graced the area at a comfortable distance. Beach front is private; there is indeed a lively bar adjacent to the property that, because of rain, had some late night fireworks the night we were there that were really noisy — if the music is really a problem for you the concierge assured us that if you call down, they will call in the complaint. (The irony is that because Lone Pine’s property is so beautifully large and lawned, there’s nothing to absorb the sound). Fully enjoy relaxation here with that nearby but not in your face Batu Ferringhi vibe!
Very good overall Will come again Recommended to stay here with ur love one ❤️
Pros: - location: McD, KFC, Food Centre, Shuttle Bus to Hard Rock Cafe are within walking distance - located on the beach - good size bedroom - large swimming pool, outdoor jacuzzi pool + kids pool - lots of nature to be appreciated around the hotel grounds ie. birds, monkeys Cons: - rooms really need to be cleaned better upon check-in, especially since the Front Office is very sticky with check-in / check-out times - slow F&B service and very limited dinner menu - housekeeping needs improvement 5-star hardware, that’s running on 3-star software.
Wonderfully relaxing, super casual hotel
A really lovely causal environment, nicely shabby-chic and supported by wonderfully attentive staff. Beach was slightly spoilt by a jellyfish problem (at the time of our visit) and a sewage situation that was being dealt with ... a little further up the beach!
The staff and general ambience of the hotel is good, however the buffet breakfast is quite poor and in need of a huge step up so it's on par with the standards of being one of the best boutique hotels around.
The staff were wonderrful. A nice hotel. Location very good.
The Lone Pine has been a lovely hotel for many years. It is unique in that it maintains the quiet elegance of the past, the colonial architecture, lush gardens and of course the Pine trees that help make it so attractive. Staff is very helpful, warm and caring. It is a quiet friendly place; perfect for a couple or family looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday without all the bells and whistles and general noises of your regular modern beach resort. It could improve lunch and dinner menu and the Batubar is a bit of a let down, but all in all it is a different and very relaxing experience.
Great property but need to improve on management!
Our second stay in Lone pine after 4 years. We returned because we like the location and accessibility to the beach. This time was not as good as our first visit because the property was not properly maintained especially the gym ( not motivated to use) , the pool was dirty and the room itself has few defects. Front desk check in and check out was not efficient . In the evening and morning we always hear people from above our room stomping the floor, dragging the chairs, disturb our rest . We called front desk many times to assist but to no avail. Service staff at the breakfast are better and friendly.
The sea view room was very spacious and comfortable and kept clean and replenished by the friendly staff. A special mention for Reva on reception who couldn't do enough for us and always greeted us with a beautiful smile when we came down for breakfast. The breakfast was good and varied with many local and western dishes in offer, we even had entertainment a couple of mornings when the local monkeys came to have a look at us. Lone pine could be a beautiful resort but is looking a little shabby especially around the breakfast area and the sunbeds need replacing. At busy times there are not enough of them and the best ones are taken by 7.30 when the staff put towels on them for some of the guests, even though there are signs asking you not to reserve them. There are lots of restaurants in the immediate area and the buses are frequent and easy to catch it you want to go into Georgetown for a change.
I really can't fault this hotel, yes it needs updating a little in some areas, but it's very clean, well maintained, lovely friendly staff. The hotel is set in beautiful pine clad gardens right next to the beach,it's lovely lying on your bed listening to the waves and the lovely birds in the trees. The food at buffet breakfast is excellent, and I love the pool....for the price I think the whole set up is fantastic!!
Spacious, nice looking but not well kept- hair, molded stains at corners of bathroom and shower room, paint faling apart. Staffs are very friendly
So diaspointing we moved hotels!
Sadly not a great stay. We had booked for 5 nights and moved hotel after the first night. The room was fine, although not as clean as it could be, it was big. The welcome to the hotel was very good, the staff were friendly and efficient. Unfortunately everything else was not as advertised and very disappointing. Despite good internet reviews, the restaurant is all but non existent: dirty, barely a menu, certainly nothing if you have any dietary issues, doesn’t look anything like the photos on their website or other booking sites, staff have no idea what’s going on. The bar is nice but dirty and the staff couldn’t find a bottle opener for a beer so I opened it myself from another bottle! The pool has trip hazards everywhere and is just old and tired. For £150 more over our whole stay, we moved to the Shangri-La La down the road which was night and day in comparison. Such a shame as the reviews seem to be generally good on the internet but our experience was very disappointing.
Lovely hotel well situated in the town and right next to the beach. Quite a lot of noise from the motor boats and jet skis which didn't make for a peaceful stay. The room was spacious and very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Lovely sunsets.
The Lone Pine is a very good hotel right next to the beach. The staff were excellent, very helpful & a smile for all guests. The breakfast & the restaurant food were very good with plenty of choice & variety. The room was spacious with a very comfortable bed & pillows. Shower was powerful & the water hot.The wi fi was very good as was the a/c . The hotel is only minutes walk from good restaurants & cafes of which there are many.We stayed from December 17th till the 24th & had no problems or complaints . Would recommend the Lone Pine for a very restful break.
There was water leaking from the ceiling on the first night of the arrival. It took three hours to deliver a pillow, not until 11:30pm. The operator was not on duty till 9:00am in the morning while the front desk staff picking up phone at night could not answer simple question. In short, good hardware , good location but poor services.
Nice hotel close to the beach
Could be better
Underwhelming Stay
It was our first time staying at Lone Pine Hotel and judging by the price, location and online reviews, we had high expectation of Lone Pine Hotel. However, the experience was underwhelming. Below were a couple of issues which we faced during our stay... 1. Wait time during Check In - We were made to wait after we were done with the documentations although we had arrived later than the usual check in period. 2. Low water pressure - The issue arose during the night and lasted till the next afternoon. We were left either hot OR cold water. 3. Noisy air conditioning unit - There was constant buzzing noise in the room we stayed in and we were told by the engineer that it was ''common''. 4. Faulty TV box - Error message popped up every single night on the TV set. 5. Power trip - There was power trip during the day time. 6. Messy dining hall at The Bungalow - The dining area's cleanliness was under par. Some areas were infested with ants (and some dishes had ants on it!). The floor could do some cleaning while food (breakfast) should be refilled constant especially on weekends irrespective of the time. There were little food left when we were there at 930am.
This is meant to be helpful to enable hotel to improve. Daily cleaning dreadful. Didn’t appear to do anything apart from throw sheet back over bed and replace towels. Nothing else replenished inc toilet roll! Soap dish left swimming in water. Day bed on veranda left untidy. Had to request a safe - 3 times. Most worrying was that door did not self close and I came back after room service to find door open! There were ants crawling around basin and coffee making area. The room - 213 - has apparently recently been refurbished? Decor was nice they need to address cleaning and ongoing maintenance. The breakfast area/restaurant is supposed to be being refurbished however we were inundated with flies at breakfast every morning. This is supposed to be 4 star hotel - currently would rate 2.5 star and would not stay there again as is.
Nice staffs very helpful. I notice tgat tgey are shortage of staffs.
My family stayed at Lone Pine in this end of Nov'18 for my birthday trip. Very friendly staff and come with welcome drinks. I really feel grateful to have my spacious room with wonderful sea view. The hotel environment is great too. The hotel is very close to the beach with few steps away. Anyway, there is some disappointed points too. The hotel bed is seems too soft and is not really comfortable. May be the beds has been used for too long. And also, in the buffet area, there are so many flies & small insect flying around the food & dining area. Overall comment, the hotel environment is very good.
Beautiful Property the needs a Facelift
I think the problem with Lone Pine is upkeep, the rooms we stayed in had that old musty smell that comes from neglect. I know they are currently doing some upgrade work but for now I think the condition does not justify the high prices we paid. The staff were absolutely lovely though, they took care of our every need and were kind and thoughtful. This just about made up for the all permeating musty smells.
The resort is very nice and the staff is friendly.
Nice garden setting by the beach. Rooms have been updated recently. Good pool.
We had a great experience. Our stay was truly pleasant with the very helpful and friendly staff. We enjoyed the beach and pool facilities
As amazing as always!
They upgraded some of the rooms, it looks brand new. Only the noises from the constructions were too loud, but overall it was absolutely great!
Overall it is good but the room has many insects like ants and fly
I had heard great things about that hotel from people who went there a while ago. However, it appears that since this hotel is not related to the Eastern and Oriental, the experience has gone down tremendously. The hotel still looks good and the
Nice environment.quiet and good choice for honeymoon
Peaceful
We had a good time at Lone Pine Penang
Very nice ambience and setting againstg lush greenery.
Clean and spacious rooms. Close to restaurants and beach.
Comfortable hotel, on beach, wonderful staff.
We loved our stay here. Very spacious comfortable room, very large bed, lovely spacious bathroom. We reported a couple of maintenance issues and they were attended to immediately and efficiently. The staff were excellent, every single one of them, very friendly and helpful, couldn't do enough for us: this really made our stay very special. We hired their driver and car for full day tour around Penang - excellent and good value for two people. Used their car as taxi a few times, also good. Breakfast buffet wonderful. International buffet and free flow wine and beer on weekend was very good value and in a sunset setting. Large pool, not as fancy as other resorts, but suited us as much quieter than larger resorts. Hotel on beach, lots of cheap massage places on beach.
Good location, a bit run down
We stayed 3 nights at the lone pine and for two of those nights the air conditioning did not work. We asked for it to be fixed and it only worked for one night before failing again. The room was a bit grubby, the lampshades were dirty and there were ants on every surface. Everywhere needs a proper deep clean. Location was good and breakfast was nice.

A gem brought back to life
We had a really nice two days at the Resort, the staff were really friendly and welcoming and the location was beautiful. While the Hotel was older, the recent renovation made it feel new and clean.
