My door would close , I had roaches in my room and someone came to spray while we were in the room sleeping . Security was hostile . It was the worst trip of my life
This is a very old property in need of renovation. The staff is nice. It was clean. There is nothing to do. The pool had worms and a snake, along with bird feathers. The pool closed at 5pm. There were about 50 guest at the hotel. Everything is Expensive due to low guest turnout. I will not stay at this property again.
Good place for Freeport
We’ve stayed in a few properties in Freeport. They’re all a bit rough, this is one of the nicer ones though. It’s showing some wear and tear, but the beach and pool area are as good as you can get for Freeport. It’s a nice place and we’d stay there again certainly. Family trip with two kids under 4.
Hotel is clean but outdated. One side of hotel is falling down. Drinks and food poor quality and variety. Hotel service is slow. Beach is beautiful.
Good place
I loved this hotel, facilities are perfect, staff super friendly, everything was clean and well taken care and I fully support this business and would return again in the future. I had an amazing time celebrating my 40th birthday.
2-3 stars at best
Our stay at the Lighthouse Point was decent, nothing spectacular but wasn’t terrible. Although, I don’t believe the price was fair for the condition of the resort. Most of the resort appeared to be closed down (resort looks significantly better in pictures). The air conditioning went out for a day of our stay but was fixed fairly quick. The food was alright but we found after a few days it was quite repetitive. The bartenders were great and made pretty good drinks. Staff was friendly/helpful and our room was cleaned daily. Overall, I wouldn’t choose to stay here again due to the price not reflecting what the resort offers.
The property is being sold and so things are limited. They only have buffets, no menu order. Staff say menu, not honor. Still recovering from 2019 hurricane. Nothing open around property. On an island.
Good accommodations
Property is beautiful! Staff were amazing! The absolute best deep tissue massage by Teneal that I have ever had!! The concierge was gracious, patient and fun! The beach was the highlight of the whole trip!
Just spent a long trip with colleagues at the property for business. The beach is beautiful and the staff was very fun / friendly to us on the trip.
I am guessing that the buildings are a little old, but they are kept in tip top shape. Numberous staff keep the outdoors incredibly clean. I used the spa several times and it was marvelous. We didn't take the all in one price and were glad because there is really only one restaurant- which is very very nice but I would think for a whole week, i would want more variety. Easy to walk across the street to the Market where there are many choices. I would certianly return.
The property is overpriced for what you get. The rooms are older looking. Meals on site are expensive. The staff are awesome. Everyone was very kind and helpful.
Nice beachfront hotel
Clean, quiet, and comfortable. Everything was great except the food. But there's a fantastic seafood restaurant next door so everything worked out fine.
Rooms leaked water. Had to move several times
Upon check in did not have two ocean front rooms I had booked. Put my mother in law in a room with nonworking outside lights, alarm clock that didnt work, coffee pot that didnt work, phone that didnt work and a safe that wouldnt work. Room smelled of mold terribly. Upon check in were given arm bands that said we were on all inclusive only to find out that even though that was what i booked, we were not on that plan. We were told we could pay $100 per person (3 of us) for the three days that we were already there and $100 per day per person for the remaining two days. Service was the slowest I have ever seen in an establishment and for the most part they were rude. I will not stay here again!!!
Best option in Freeport
Great hotel with good amenities!
Super grateful
elevator could use some upgrade
My recent hotel stay was quite a mixed experience. I had to switch rooms four times due to various issues. The air conditioning in all rooms wouldn't go below 75 degrees, making it uncomfortable. One room lacked hot water, which was a basic necessity. After 5 PM, there was no place to buy water, drinks, or snacks, and the vending machines only accepted cash, with no change available at the front desk. The soda machine seemed to be constantly malfunctioning. The breakfast buffet was disappointing, as most items were gone by 8:45 AM. Surprisingly, there were no microwaves in the rooms. Additionally, the safes didn't work in two different rooms, which was concerning. Despite booking an ocean view, I consistently received a harbor view. Customer service was unhelpful and refused any refunds or credits, despite the inconvenience of multiple room changes. On a positive note, the beach and pool were enjoyable, and there was a nearby marketplace with a few restaurants and stores. Overall, my stay was marred by room changes, temperature control issues, and various inconveniences. While there were some redeeming features like the beach, pool, and nearby marketplace, they couldn't fully compensate for the frustrations encountered during my stay. Improvements are needed to enhance the overall guest experience. I will be staying elsewhere on my next trip to Freeport.
AC out for hours. Dehumidifier in room that WE had to empty. Marginally clean. So much of property not maintained. Market across from hotel half abandoned.
There was no hot water and no time frame for it returning
The hotel was nice. The area around it was crumbling and decaying since they shut down the island for “Covid” scare. Our rooms air conditioner quit cooling. I reported the issue to the front desk who dispatched a maintenance man to look into the issue. He was very nice but provided no help. I asked for, and received another room. The air conditioning there worked only marginally better. We spent the night sweating. The pool and beach are was nice. All of the staff were super friendly and great. The hotel is decaying somewhat and the local hotels around are abandoned and look like a zombie apocalypse movie set. Hopefully, thee are will recover eventually from the Covid restrictions.
The people amd staff were very friendly amd helpful.
Heat wave!!
The hotel is super dated. The AC was at 73 and I couldn’t lower it and they told me that was the coldest they brought me a fan. It was very uncomfortable to sleep in that room. The gym was super hot as well and treadmills didn’t work properly
Checked in to a room the bathroom was old and dirty tub shower was cracked and black complained after I showed them pictures of the bathroom New room was worse first the safe didn’t work and we were leaving for the day and wanted to put our valuables away they sent someone up to fix it changed the batteries still did not work. They said they would swap it out for a new one never did! Then we had no hot water to shower sent up maintenance and I was able to shower however next morning it was cold again !!
The seafront location, the beautiful beach and water.
Its an awesome venue. Lots of dining options, a beautiful beach and well kept grounds and outdoor areas. The staff are attentive and professional
I loved the beach access , the pool area , the security and most of all the peace of mind . Stunning sun rises …!!
Excellent Location! More Expensive than Planned
Gorgeous location and our marina view room was very nice. Positives: helpful concierge arranged lots of fun excursions, beautiful private beach with pool bar and infinity pool, room air-conditioning worked. Easy walk to Lucaya Marketplace. Negatives: Hotel charges per person, not per room so it was more expensive than advertised. Hot water in shower didn't work (either scalding or freezing). Nothing is complimentary, we were often searching for drinking water. On site food/drinks/service are not good and pricey. Recarpeting the room next door was disruptive.
Beautiful Location; Comfortable Room
Although this hotel could use some refurbishing (and more device-friendly outlets), we enjoyed our stay. The staff is very helpful and friendly, and the setting is beautiful. We were glad we did not choose the all-inclusive option, because we found better food at nearby (walkable) restaurants. We would also recommend the Wednesday Fish Fry at nearby Smith's Point (car or taxi needed).
Beautiful property, wonderful staff, but a little expensive.
This resort and our stay was absolutely exceptional ! We were happy from start to finish, from every aspect. From the cleanliness to the beautiful, clean, well kept pool and beach, the scenery was just gorgeous. We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this resort. 5/5 !!!
The resort was just perfect, The staff were all very polite ,helpful and respectful. The food was excellent everything was delicious and well served. Just besides the Lucayan market which was a lot of fun,Very happy with our choice of Hotel. We will be back 10 on 10
The ability to walk along the beach & ocean The choices to sit near pools or out on the beach. Th size of the resort was impressive
The hotel is lovely and in a nice little area with various restaurants and shops around. The pool area and beach are great and all the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful if they tried.
Disappointing Stay
The hotel really hasn't recovered from past hurricanes. Not much around it is open. Our a/c went out multiple times a day and exceeded 80 degrees making it very uncomfortable. The beach sand was raked, but not actually cleaned. There was a lot of trash that was not picked up for several days and we found/picked up quite a bit of broken glass. The hot tub wasn't maintained/cleaned very well. Nearly all of the staff was very friendly, but the service wasn't consistent. Some days you'd get more, some days less. It was very quiet for the most part, the beach only got busy when a bus load of people was brought in from one of the cruise ships. The marketplace area was pretty nice and friendly people. The food at the hotel wasn't very good. We ate most meals off property. We did not do the all-inclusive thankfully, it wouldn't have been worth it. Only 1 restaurant was open for breakfast and dinner.
Loved our short stay here. Very quiet, super friendly staff and great pools and a gorgeous beach. Room was large and well equipped.
The beach is beautiful. The food and drinks were good and reasonable, and the staff was extremely pleasant and accommodating. The reception area is lovely but the rooms, elevators, etc could use a cosmetic update. We went to two excellent restaurants that were in walking distance — Agave Lucaya and Flying Fish Gastro Pub, however, Freeport is still a work in progress after Hurricane Isaias in 2020.
The property has never really recovered from the 2019 hurricane yet. Large portions of the Grand Lacayan resort are still closed off. Unfortunately, this effects the overall experience by limiting food and entertainment options. The Marketplace At Lucayan also was rather limited in its food, entertainment, and shopping options...again, I think this is a remanent of the hurricane, as only about 1/4 of the shops are open now. The staff at the hotel was friendly and did their best to make your stay pleasant. We had a tropical storm while I was there, but the staff stuck it out and still provided food and entertainment for the folks at the resort. The part of the resort that was open was gorgeous and well kept. If. your idea of a great vacation is laying by the pool, sipping drinks, and enjoying a beautiful view of the ocean...then you are all set. If you're looking for something a little more varied or active, this might not be your place (in fairness, the Tropical Storm did put a little damper on my actives). All and all...it was a beautiful location, but the amenities were a little limited...leading to my "average" rating. If there were more things to do and eat around the resort, I would have given it a higher rating.
Beautiful resort, quiet, the beach was beautiful and not crowded. Very relaxing. Not a lot to do, but we weren't looking for a lot to do. We loved the beach and just unplugging, My wife and I had a great stay. The view was amazing, breakfast outside was wonderful. The room wasn't 5 stars like in the US so don't expect that, but was comfortable and clean and had a door that opened up to our patio which we could walk straight to the beach. It was wonderful.
Beautiful beach front property with pristine beach and infinity pool seemingly disappearing into the ocean. Day-long overly loud hip hop music every day became annoying. Lack of AC for 3 days and water for 2 other was problematic although the staff were very apologetic and always friendly. I would definitely recommend the resort with the caveat that all utilities are working.
The resort was pretty deserted of people . Which I myself like it was like having a resort to yourself. Some days at the beach restaurant bar staff would ignore you when you was trying to get food or drink . One of the great positives was the food at Portobello's restaurant was exceptional.
Right on the water. Great views
I decided to choose this place because of the views from the hotel and their pretty decent rating but their rooms are disgusting! first off, I reserved two island view king bed rooms and got a double bed room instead i’m pretty sure you’re supposed to receive what you reserve but upon arrival she tells us it’s unavailable and we will not be receiving the room we reserved through expedia but we will be getting whatever room they have left, besides not getting the rooms we reserved in advance due to the hotel’s incompetence, one of our rooms was damp and musty, and the other had no hot water to shower, we took cold showers and we called to complain and they relocated us to another room where the toilet was not working and
Ok .
No spa- can’t get massage etc. Bar closes at 9pm and nowhere else to get a drink on property No breakfast until 7am . Too many seagulls around pool Property could do with a bit of sprucing up Staff very nice
The location is wonderful. You have the beach on one side and the marina on the other with shops and restaurants in easy walking distance. The amenities are great. The resort was in its first week of reopening after being closed for a long time so it is understandable some of the features were not up to par - although they were working on all aspects diligently. The main thing is the rooms that have been reopend have had plenty of attention to decor and cleaniness, but the air conditioning and plumbing are spotty at best. We had to change rooms three times to get a good air conditioner and we only had consistent hot water the last two days of our stay. I am sure they will get these things resolved as they go forward.
Getting ready
Still standing after the hurricane. Can’t wait for the season to kick in. Will be back.
There is no business centre, no room service, the water is not drinkable but we were not advised. They are understaffed and our phone didn’t work and our shower handle fell off. The elevator to the 2nd floor doesn’t work and we had to go to three rooms before we found one that wasn’t musty. I understand the storm caused issues but they should adjust their pricing and not charge a daily fee for services that don’t exist. Certainly not worth $2500 plus a week.
Beautiful hotel
Love employees were professional and friendly specially front desk. Location was excellent.
Probably the best attribute was the small gym. Albeit older equipment, they had a nice set-up. The length of the pool was nice in the eve. There was enough room to get away from a crowd. The food was more expensive than I anticipated ($28) and not as good as I hoped. Beaches are littered with cigarette butts. The deeper in the sand you dig, the more you find. Palapa shade/cover s on the beach are in terrible shape. Literally missing half the coverage. It's an easy fix to gather palm fronds and replace neglected pieces. I dropped my glasses late one eve Early the next morn I returned to the area to look. I asked the staff and one explained offering a reward would encourage the staff to return the glasses. I guess $40 was not enough. Staff at front door and check-n were pleasant and helpful. AC in the room was perfectly cold. The entire resort needs some TLC,
Disappointing. Cigarette butts everywhere on the beach. Litter found throughout resort. Food was not very good. Half of staff was friendly, but the other half...not so much. Many things needing repair and maintenance. The AC kept the room comfortably cold. Freddy (and other doormen) was helpful and friendly. Gym was in good condition and offered more equipment than expected. We did not expect to find the "instructor" sleeping in the corner of the yoga room during our workout.
Nice place, very friendly staff. great pool and beach.
BEAUTIFUL PROPERTY, but....
Very beautiful pool, but there was another 85.00 due when I checked in due to various taxes. Food and drinks expensive as well. Not worth the value, I would stay elsewhere next time.
Fantastic with one exception
The trip was great with the one exception that there was urine on our bathroom floor. We asked for it to be cleaned up and it was not. Upon following up with the front desk, they came back to our room and actually cleaned it. The hotel would've had a raving review with the exception of that one issue.
It was with in walking distance of the market where there were many bars, restaurants and shopping.
very expensive for what you get, especially the bars and restaurants
The setting was beautiful but the bathrooms need updated.
The property was very nice and we had a excellent time at the hotel. More buffet dinners would have been nice.
The staff was incredibly courteous and professional and helpful. One of the main things that I really loved about staying at this hotel beyond its natural beauty was that I arrived early around 11 or 11:30 AM and even though check in is typically 3 o’clock however, they allowed me to check in when I got there hours early. That went a long way with me. From the moment I stepped on the property all of the staff was courteous helpful And just really went out of their way to make me feel welcomed. This is the only hotel that I will stay at whenever I’m in the Bahamas. I will be going again.
When you see pictures of the property, you will undoubtedly see the infinity pool - which is beautiful. The beach area is also very pretty. Our room was clean and in good condition. It is important to know though, that this property is just beginning to recover from the hurricane 3 years ago. The majority of what used to be the Grand Lucayan sits vacant and unrepaired. Only the Lighthouse Pointe portion of the property has been renovated. The internet was not working well during our stay. Also, their system for paying for things is terrible. They do not allow room charges and the credit card system wasn't working well. We had to go get cash just to be able to buy things on the property. Be aware that you will be sharing the property with people coming in from the cruise ships every day. Would suggest walking over to Pelican Bay for more restaurants. Finally, I would advise against drinking the tap water.
Great stay and very relaxing. If you are looking for a calm relaxing vacation, the lighthouse fits the bill. It is a 5 minute walk from the market with lively restaurants and bars.
Lucayan has an excellent layout. It is abutted by two closed properties that were victims of Hurricane Matthew and chose to shutter and try to offload. Getting them off their back would certainly re-vitalize the overall area and add to Lucayan's lustre. Overall the Government's custodianship of Lucayan has worked, and hopefully the area can fulfill its enormous potential. Our stay was pleasant, and the staff was accommodating and friendly.
The place was really nice.
The pool was beautiful, just like the pictures. The beach had very fine white sand. The property is in need of an update, but was kept very clean. The staff was friendly and were working hard. We heard that the area is still recovering from the hurricane and several hotels nearby were closed, contributing to an off-season feel. The property was within walking distance to the straw market square where there were a variety of options for food.
We stayed at Lighthouse Pointe for 10 nights in March 2019 and really enjoyed our first time to the Bahamas and Grand Bahama. We were fortunate that Lighthouse Pointe, although an all-inclusive resort, also had the choice of NOT choosing the all-inclusive option. This was because the resort only has one main dining room; another "fast food" pool restaurant; a pizza restaurant; and a coffee shop. In other words, the all-inclusive option is not worth the value. We found it much nicer (and much more variety), and better value, to go to the Marketplace nearby. It's only a 5-min walk. The main restaurant at the hotel did have an EXCELLENT menu and staff! We ate there 2 times. They had a Bahamian theme on Friday night, which was excellent. The other time, we just had the buffet. We also had room service one evening, which was excellent! It should be noted that alcoholic drinks are quite expensive in the restaurant, so beware. There is a super gym onsite, with nice cold water, towels, sauna, and tubs (if you choose to use them), showers and lockers; and beautiful pool and beach!! All sites are clean and well-kept. The employees work very hard everywhere. The hotel also has a LARGE chess set, shuffle board, bean bag toss, ping pong table, and Connect 4 game on the grounds. Great activities!! Our 2 biggest criticisms were the WiFi (which was really weak and kept dropping the signal numerous times) and the loud music by the pool. Great rooms and very nice grounds.
A bit dated but clean. Staff was friendly and helpful, however there was one lady at the front desk that could stand to be a little more patient and understanding.
Relaxing in the Bahamas
Nice relaxing place to stay for a few days. The shopping is within walking distance as well as some good places to eat.
It is a beautiful setting on the Carribean Ocean. Rooms are a good size. The property used to be an amazing campus, but hurricanes have reduced it to a mediocre facility. Our room had such a strong mildew/musky odor we ran a dehumidifier 24/7. It is located across from the marketplace that has shops and restaurants. Will not return to this location.
It was convenient that you could walk anywhere and had a gorgeous view!
The front desk staff was not very friendly. Rooms were a good size and clean. Available restaurants on the property were expensive, I would suggest walking to Port Lucaya Marketplace for meals. In particular, Agave, the Italian restaurant and Zorba's. Pool was not clean, tons of seagulls inside and feathers floating around- and was freezing cold. Beach front was nice. They charge you extra at check-in- we owed an additional 250$ in charges ranging from resort fee, service charge fee, electricity fee, etc. Note that the island is very sleepy with not a great deal to do. It is very relaxing though, my suggestion is to rent a car and/or take a lot of excursions. I wouldn't stay longer than 4 days max. We were not all inclusive, so apparently this translated to the non-motorized sports. They also would not give us snorkels without a charge. Also bear in mind that the only way to the hotel is taxi- they charge a flat fee of 22 dollars each way.
Not great:(
Wasn't very pleased with hotel. When I checked in their computer system was having issues so they couldn't give me a key to my room. Thus over the next two days every time I needed back into my room I had to go to the front desk and then they would call someone to go unlock the room. They also made me switch rooms after the first hour because they said they needed it for another guest. Won't ever stay here again.
I would have given a favorable review of this property except they charged me $60 for an extra person on the last night of my stay. I have yet to have the money returned and the system has been “down” for about two weeks according to the manager. It’s a fine property and the staff are pleasant but that doesn’t make up for extra charges out of nowhere and the hassle that comes with trying to get your money returned. I was in the Bahamas for a funeral and I’d really like to be done with this.
Good standard check-in and services from check-in to settling in my room.

Great service
