This is one of our favourite hotels and was our fourth time staying there. The location is excellent- right in the centre of town- but peaceful. The staff are v friendly and helpful; great breakfast; on site parking which is particular helpful in La Rochelle. A wonderful spa. Generally a lovely place to relax

Beautiful hotel, great location, friendly and efficient staff. Highly recommended

Centrally located and stylish. Our bedroom was smart and well appointed. Unfortunately there was no parking available but the public parking is cheap and close by. Hope to return to La Rochelle sometime and would definitely consider booking this hotel again.

Very helpful staff, nice bedding and good atmosphere throughout this authentic stone mansion. This perfectly located hotel is definitely our choice for all further stays in La Rochelle.

Friendly staff

Very friendly and very helpful staff. Small secure car park very useful, but book early.

The building is old, so they don't have an elevator to every floor, but they help with the luggage. The location is perfect.

The staff were pleasant and efficient. A special mention to Alexandre who was very helpful.

Hotel very well located. The staff are superb (particularly Alexander) and really go the extra mile to ensure you have a great stay.

The hotel is very well located for experiencing the city. The staff were extremely helpful even before our arrival, taking care of dinner bookings and advising on parking. Lovely breakfast, couldn’t have been better!

The property was in a great location and you could walk everywhere. The breakfast was also excellent.

All staff were so helpful! Location is also nice.

The hotel was in a good location, the staff were very helpful. There was no milk in the room to have with coffee. Rooms were adequate.

Wonderful place. My second stay here. They had a little issue with the new heating system and ended up placing me in another hotel and covering everything. Very apologetic and professional. I will stay here again!

Great location and fantastic service

The hotel is very well located, close to all the wonderful places to visit in La Rochelle. The reception team were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was varied and substantial. I would definitely recommend this beautiful hotel.

Excellent hotel

Only an overnightstay but the staff were most helpful. The art work in the hotel was excellent and the bar area and inner courtyard perfect.The hotel is close to the old city and port and nearby there are a many excellent restaurants. .

Hotel La Monnaie is an unusual hotel with an art focus that goes throughout. It is a really different place which is quite refreshing

This is a hotel with style. A beautiful room with a really comfortable bed and great shower. The staff were friendly and attentive. We’ve stayed before and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Not at all noisy which is an achievement given that it is so convenient for the town centre and harbour. La Rochelle is a wonderful place to visit.

I had to wait too long for the garage gate to open.

hotel staff were very helpful. Although we didn't use all facilities ie spa area or dining room , our request for more milk and coffee in the room was immediately provided. we were given an upgraded room as the hotel wasn't full and allowed to keep the room longer on our departure day. beds also very comfortable with no external noise so got good nights sleep in this well positioned hotel for the city and surrounding area.

Great location

The room was to small and very closterphobic. The images online where very miss leading as the roof terrace only applied to the suite. The bar was basically reception.

First Timers in France

Breakfast was lovely. Staff was very accommodating. The area was wonderful to see & a quick hop over to Ile de Re (charming)! ~Maggie & David

Best in town La Rochelle

Amazing hotel, top quality service , even though we got the room allocation wrong for easy access but they were very sympathetic . Internet is very slow but came as complimentary with the room. Breakfast was fresh and good .

Nice hotel perfect location

We found the reception staff extremely helpful and polite. The room was clean with very comfortable bed. A suggestion would be for more extensive bathroom toilettes.

Lovely base - great location, relaxed vibe

Lovely base near all that La Rochelle has to offer. Very polite staff, cool arty vibe, nice room. We had a room over the courtyard and it was lovely. The thing we kept saying was the hotel felt very much connected and part of La Rochelle, would definitely stay again although not the cheapest.

Great position but needs to keep an eye on service

Great position and staff attentive although seemed to be short staffed which meant some waiting for service. Decor of hotel interesting although not to our taste! Otherwise comfortable hotel.

Lovely small hote

Hotel is beautiful and in a fab location, everything was great, apart from the breakfast which was disappointing. Quite limited choice.

Great location close to harbour

La Rochelle is a lovely place to visit for a long weekend. The main feature is a pretty, atmospheric, bustling harbour surrounded by typically unspoilt French buildings. The Hotel Monnaie is well placed to take advantage of this.

Good location - stylish and comfortable. Spa is a joke - it's a jacuzzi and steam room stuck in a basement which is not nice.

Great Hotel, very close to down town/old La Rochelle. Very good experience, very helpful staff and in a beautiful part of La Rochelle.

Overnight stay between les landes and st malo.

Have stayed here before, very nice hotel with excellent staff. Just a step to the restaurants and harbour. Love the hotel but breakfast underwhelming! Tepid espresso and tea made with "hot" water.......should be boiling, undrinkable! Tea sachets over complicated, we just want a nice cup of tea......tea facilities in room would be good too.

good location

The staff at this hotel were really friendly and helpful. We only stayed here for one night but we really liked the location and size of the hotel. The room was plain but comfortable. The hotel had a lovely courtyard and various outside areas. A good place to stay. Driving through La Rochelle is a nightmare but the hotel does have parking, albeit pricey.

Amazing location (near the towers, beach and park) and the room looked like it had just been refurbished - it was spotless. The reception staff were really helpful and welcoming (and coped well with our poor knowledge of French)

Friendly Hotel and Great Location

Originally booked 2 nights but ended up staying 3 due to hotel and location. Firstly finding the hotel. Make sure you read the email from them because your sat nav will try to take you via roads that have been closed off to cars. The hotel has parking. A few spaces upstairs for disabled and large cars. The rest of the car park is underground and the road down is very tight. We have a Mazda 3 which just fitted after several goes. Its that tight, someone from reception helps guide you down! Our receptionist was very helpful with this and helped carry bags up and checked us in. The rooms are spacious, although a little dark with the back walls. Never been in a shower with a metal grated floor, but it worked really well. Breakfast was a buffet of both hot and cold selections. The hotel is a few minuets walk from the harbour front and lots of restaurants to chose from. There is a courtyard and garden to sit in and relax. WiFi is free with easy log on with several products.

Very nice hotel close to the ancient city

The hotel is fully renovated. Very modern decoration inside. Parking very easy and convenient in the rear entrance of the hotel. If you go by car book your parking in advance. Dont miss the chance to visit the island of Re if you have a car.

Quirky modern comfortable hotel in very handy position. Staff very helpful, room a bit tight but great bed. Walk into town. No tea making facilities in room, but staff happy to oblige.

Stylish venue in a good town

Passed thru La Rochelle enroute to Spain after ferry cancellation. A really good town and this hotel made it all the better. Very stylish even if the hotel was understaffed. Good location with parking even though the latter was a bit challenging.

Artsy boutique hotel near the Vieux Port

Stayed 2 nights for business. The hotel is two minutes from the Vieux Port. Staff was very helpful. The hotel is artsy with a boutique style.

Great Location

Enjoyed a pleasant few days in La Rochelle. Nice hotel, excellent staff and very near the cafe's, bars, but still perfectly quiet.

Hotel is not up to a 4star standard. The bathroom was not very clean and the bed was not very comfortable

Loved this place

This was a great find. The staff was so nice. The room was beautiful . The location was ideal. Would have liked to be able to make tea and coffee in the room.

A Hotel with Style

From the very first moment within the hotel, the staff made me feel very welcome and they were incredibly helpful in finding restaurants and making recommendations. The hotel just had a really warming welcoming and relaxed feeling.

Lovely hotel, great location.

A great base for exploring La Rochelle, situated on a street with lots of lovely restaurants. Friendly and helpful staff who all spoke very good English. Rooms very comfortable; the only thing we missed in the room was coffee/tea making facilities. We didn't have breakfast included so can't comment on that, but it looked like a fairly basic continental.

Chique and stylish

a Perfect hotel right in the heart of the old town, walking distance everywhere we needed to go. Close to a huge selection of great restaurants and shops. Friendly and helpful staff.

Quirky modern decor in an interesting old building central to the town, very clean and very helpful service. If you have a car book a parking space before arriving as parking is limited and access to underground park restricted so if you have large SUV you will need one of 4 spaces at ground level.

Ideal location

Enjoyed our stay. Ideal location for wandering around La Rochelle. It was competitively priced. The shower doors didn't stay closed. The wifi is free but it's a bit painful to use because it logs one out frequently & needs the user & password every time to be re-entered.

Amazing hotel, very helpful staff

This hotel was just perfect for my one night stay in La Rochelle. The room was excellent and the staff were super friendly. Very close to the center of town too with many fantastic restaurants in walking distance. There is also a great beach just a couple of minutes from the hotel. Really happy with my stay and would definitely visit again!

Service, Service , Service

Unfortunately, I don't have the names of the three young women who exhibited extraordinary Service but I will describe it. The young woman managing check in - ran, in heels, from the courtyard to reception when she saw us enter the check in from the street. I have never seen This outside of Japan. This was just the beginning. We arrived late and with a large car that needed to be parked in a very tight underground garage. The same women who checked us In was instantly on the steep and tight down ramp guiding us every foot of the way. Amazing! There was one spot left to park in. Instantly there were now three women, helping us. There were Five bags between myself, my daughter and my wife, none light. They insisted on hand carrying all of them to our room and helping us situate them in the room. This is a relatvly small hotel but The staff I encountered was world class.

Excellent hotel with great location

Great hotel with very nice and efficient staff. Facilities are fantastic, spa is excellent. Rooms are very comfortable. Location is very good as well, just 2 mn away from pedestrian streets with all the restaurants and right next to the pier. We were cycling and we could leave our bikes in the parking, safely stored away.

Please fix shower room's door!

Service was great! All personnels were very friendly. Only one mishap in our room. The shower door couldn't be closed..we didn't want to bother them as they wouldn't be able to fix it right away anyway.

pleasant, quiet, luxury in the heart of la rochell

My husband and i stayed at hotel la monnaie for 5 nights. We had stayed at la rochelle before we went for this hotel for air con and location. Having stayed at other hotels in france this was by far the most lux. We enjoyed a nice welcome drink. Only negative was pricey breakfast. Too expensive for what it is (18€) we didnt use the spa area. Staff were great. V helpfull. We will be back!

Location best bit!

Disappointing, despite very central location. Rooms well decorated but basic, lacked personal touch. Wifi extremely frustrating had to re log in everytime device went into standby, different log ins for each device! No atmosphere, spa only for private use ( max 2 at a time) and expensive. Breakfast not included and expensive. All in all felt it was a hotel in a great location,but trying to be more than it is.

I doubt you will find better!!

Fantastic hotel, very friendly staff, excellent location, really felt that bit special. Very central to the harbour/beach etc. We had booked into Christian Coutanceu's which is a 5 min walk away. It look very mysterious from the outside (and pretentious) but once inside it is decadent with exceptionally friendly staff.

Mediocre room; terrible internet

The location of the hotel is good, very close to the old port. Sadly, the hotel itself has multiple problems and does not deserve 4 stars. The room is fairly basic. The parking is very tight for large cars. Worst of all, the internet access is slow, and requires logging in again every 4 hours on every device. Not really acceptable.

Modern Boutique hotel with a friendly and attentiv

I was very pleasantly surprised by the hotel. It was a very old building with a courtyard that had been completely modernised inside and the interier design was ultra modernif not a little quirky, this followed through into the rooms which were very modern but at the same time confortable, great bed, and linen, great shower and modern bathroom, qa very nice stay, I would highly recommend.

Pleasant hotel close to the ferry for boat show

All the Staff were superb! We found them very helpful and accommodating. The hotel decor was not to my taste, too dark with poor lighting in the corridor and en suite. The shower doors did not close, and there were no towel rails. There were also no tea or coffee making facility in the room, which we have not experienced in previous stays in similar rating hotels. However the quality of the bed and linen was extremely high, my husband said it was the best bed he has ever slept in!

Great hotel in cute neighborhood

The hotel was well priced, a block away from all the best restaurants in La Rochelle, and had a stylish and comfortable atmosphere. Big thumbs up.

Great central location. Parking secure, Freindly

Staff were excellent ! Rooms clean and modern but a tad on the small side, understandable I guess this close to the centre. Can't comment on the restuarant as its so close to the centre we went out.

Stunning and contemporary romantic getaway.

I booked this hotel for me and my partner for a romantic visit to this beautiful city and would most certainly recommend it to others doing the same. A stunning contemporary hotel full of edgy art work and unique design features that continued to surprise and impress. Our room was excellent with full quota of facilities in perfect working order and (contrary to some other reviews) a very comfortable bed! The staff were particularly helpful and did everything they could to help us have the best stay possible. I cannot praise the lady who welcomed us in perfect English enough. The experience was worth every penny we paid.

Best Hotel in La Rochelle

Very modern. Art everywhere. My only complaint was the fire alarm at midnight caused by someone smoking in there non-smoking room, but idiots are everywhere. Comfortable beds.

Boutique design hotel that does not deliver

Very small bed purportedly for two people but in fact the size of a full bed, air conditioning not working, staff tense and unhelpful

Great Location

Great location, very close to the old town, restaraunts, etc. Parking underneath by prior arrangement. Comfortable room. Sunny cortyard and reading room downstairs. Highly recommended.

I had read some poor reviews of this hotel, so was pleasantly surprised. The staff were very friendly and very helpful when we'd a bit of a travel crisis (air traffic strike!). Perhaps I have very hardy feet but I didn't find the steel grids in the shower sore at all, thought they were quite comfortable! My one criticism is the breakfast: absolutely not worth 16 euro per person, pastries were not fresh enough and selection was quite limited.

Over rated

I found some of the staff reception very cold. When I had enquires, I was kept waiting at reception for too long each time. The hotel has maitanace problems. Lighting in the room is not enough. carpet feels like an industrial carpet. Room very small especially for a family of three.

Perfect location

The hotel is contemporary and our room was nice if a little basic, no hairdryer, no glasses and limited storage. It is very well situated and the secure car parking is a bonus. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Would stay here again.
