The staff was exceptionally sweet. The room could use an update with the air quality. The aircon ran loudly and nonstop and there was a persistent mold smell.

Lovely rooftop pool but limited seating/sun loungers. The restaurant was pretty good. Business orientated hotel but good for an overnight transit stay, if you want to experience Male.
JEN Maldives was a great stay. Transfers were arranged swiftly with our resort. Check in was simple and the location was great. The room was great, very clean. Transfer back to the airport was arranged and was provided on time.

The hotel is located close to everything. All taxis knew where hotel was located. Staff were great.
Breakfast & facility
Breakfast was pathetic in terms of choice and quality of food. Rooms are already old and not revamped. Tap knob kept falling off and maintainence did not even bother to upkeep it. Beds are already not in usable condition to have a comfortable sleep.
It’s 3 stars at best
It’s a good option if you have to stay in Male island for a night. The floor is very greasy and the bed feels moist. The overall clean. Fast check in and pick up from airport. Decent selection at breakfast.
The property and staff were lovely. Food at restaurant really good. Unfortunetly our plane was delayed so we got there really late and had to leave early, but I would have loved to seen more of it. The pool looked beautifully lit at night. Service to and from airport was fantastic and staff so helpful.
All the staff were helpful except reservations. We had to make an unexpected cancellation after the first night as we realized we could not access the resorts from the hotel in Male city contrary to what we had thought. Despite all entreaties to charge the standard one night fee only, the reservations team insisted on debiting the entire cost for the 3 day booking. They tossed us back and forth claiming that the travel site refused to grant any accommodation all the while they had the power to apply discretion because we had paid at the hotel on arrival. Up till now they never even deigned to respond to my email.
Service at the pool bar is extremely poor I waited an hour for an iced coffee and had been completely forgotten about. This wasn't sadly the first time as I waited 40 minutes for food also. Considering the nightly cost you expect a higher level of service and not to be ignored. Very disappointed. I had emailed the hotel requesting a pick from the airport and cue to arriving no one was there. I never had an apology or received any reply! Very poor
Clean room and attentive staff
Handy location with free transfer to the airport. Only stayed there one night but the room was clean for the most part. However there was a power socket hanging of a wall which could be very dangerous if a child stuck their hands into the electrical wires.

Iti s clean, good AC, good bed , the staff give me upgrade to sea view . House keeping was good . But the health faucet had zero pressure and they were not able to fix it

Perfect little stopover in Male. Flexible check out times and a pool on the roof to spend time in if waiting long times until your next flight/ferry. Convenient and comfortable.
Great holidaying
My 04 N/5D was quite pleasant. Hotel is very clean. All staff [ house keeping and Catering/ Dinning hall] was very humble and cooperative except the hotel staff at reception [ some local female staff ] . Breakfast was very good. Dinner also very fine, but very few choice for Vegetarians.

The hotel is not in the same condition as the pictures. The lobby ceiling has ample water damage and staining. There is a chunk of lobby floor missing which has a random piece of wood stuck in it. The rooftop pool is mediocre and the complete view is different from what’s included in the pictures. Our guest room had old, worn furniture and curtains. The bed was a hard spring mattress. The bedroom mirror had rot spots. One of the lamp shades had significant water stains and the lamp fixtures are rusting. Both shower heads were in need of a deep clean and the tiles had pink bacteria. The fob lock on our door was taped together with black tape so it blended in…it fell off multiple times and was just retaped back on. The room also smelled of cigarette smoke even though we were in a non-smoking room. Misleading advertising and lack of comprehensive information for this property as well. For example, the price of breakfast is higher than what is listed on the property details page. The “bar” is strictly non-alcoholic, which should be explained. There is no clarification on the hotel’s alignment or misalignment with the island’s expectations about swimwear in the pool for guests to confer. The staff was great, but they cannot make up for the lackluster facility. This is far from what we expected from a “4 star” hotel and Shangri-La venue. Thorough cleaning of rooms between guests is essential. It is so important for companies to share accurate information and pictures.
Peter was extremely hospitable and he helped me transport properly to & from the airport. He also organized my tour. The staff in the restaurants were excellent as well.

very poor service across the hotel. restaurant had long waiting time and had to call the servers multiple times. front desk staff was not helpful or even bothered to give a paradise experience. Wrong ppl in the wrong industry and country ! kettle was not working hair dryer had exposed wire and buttons couldnt move bet 1-2-3
From what I am told, this is where the diplomats and business people stay. It is a great hotel because you are paying top dollar for it. I feel for what you pay, breakfast should be included with your room rate. Breakfast options are within walking distance from hotel but not top notch

The worst hotel I have ever stayed in.
I had been sent by my company to review this property as a potential hotel for our staff to stay while in Male. I was quite excited for my stay given the standards that this brand is known by and as a capital city hotel, I assumed my stay would be ideal. Sadly however, from first stepping in to the hotel, things did not look good. As much as the staff service was good, the hotel looked very dated, in desperate need for refurbishment and looked very worn. I arrived just before midnight and was shown to my room. The room smelled terrible, probably linked to the AC covered in dust. I tried to settle after an exhausting flight, though couldn’t stand the smell and the room just looked nothing like the photos. I then was moved to a different room where yes the room didn’t have a smell to it, though was very worn. There was still dirt on the carpet that hadn’t been vacuumed and I found bits of hair in the bathroom. The bedroom I’m assuming had been cleaned, though rather quickly and that made me quite concerned regarding the cleanliness overall. The mattress was very old and worn, lamp shades and curtains covered in dust and very little ventilation in the room. The shower head was covered in limescale and ultimately I checked out first thing in the morning. I would advise anyone not to go here and I only went as I knew the brand name. It’s nothing like the others. There are much better, cheaper hotels to consider. The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in.
This hotel was ideal for my purposes. I had three days after my scuba diving trip and needed somewhere to stay between that trip and my flight home. The hotel was located in the middle of Male and very close to the airport. All of the services that they offered met my needs. They had the ablity to let me stay on the last day until 7:00PM. I also was given my room when I arrived early on the first day. The staff of the hotel were outstanding in all departments. They even were able to get me a covid test so I could return to USA. I highly recommend this hotel. THe resturant at the top of the hotel was encellent.

cockroaches and cigarettes/ash from prior guests in our room, TV didn’t work and sparked dangerously when we tired to turn it on. We booked 4 nights, stayed 1 and left. This place is disgusting and does not deserve the Shangri-La brand, name or affiliation.
Hotel seems the best in Male so had pretty high expectations. The experience turned out to be average - nothing super pleasing or disappointing. However, given its price I wouldn’t say I got a great deal or value.
Hotel is very Nice, staff is great! Pool should be facing towards the sunset. There is no sun after 4pm. Hotel is too expensive for what it is!
We got in at 10:30 A.M. and they had a room available for us. That was awesome since we had been flying for over 18 hours.

I request a data change for departure two days before and they were able to help me as there was no activity on the island and nothing was offered to me as an alternative and I also didn't receive any kind of VIP treatment
I would stay here again
The pickup to and from the airport was seamless and they were super quick and kind. The airport transfer is one of the reasons we wanted to stay and they did a wonderful job. The only con is the bathroom floors are SUPER slippery after a shower, or if any water splashes on the floor. So just be careful in the bathroom! The little side table floor nightlights were a nice touch, I've not seen that before 😀 I would stay here again.

Worst hotel ever i have tried. Have been travelling more then 40countries and stayed over 200hotels around the world. This place is really bad, no service they don't falk to you when you ask for something. Very bad breakfast and the staff looking at us like they never saw people from Europe.
Small rooms, not as upscale as you would expect from a Shangri La
The property was clean and well maintained. They did not give me an hour of late check out even though my flight was 10hrs after the checkout time. I was ready to pay for an extra day also. They did not even consider, saying they are fully booked. RUDE!!

It’s the only international brand owned hotel in Male. But it’s quite old. The corridor smells quite bad. Make sure you have to keep the aircon of the room on all time. Otherwise it will smell as well. The bed is quite hard. Cheap pillows. I will say this hotel is overcharged. But everything is overcharge in the Maldives anyway. This is an Expedia +VIP hotel. But they does not offer any upgrade or benefit for Gold members. Disappointed. Expedia should take it away from the +VIP list. I love the swimming pool on the rooftop. It’s nice to chill out there.

Spent a week there and it was amazing! Staff is so helpful and willing to help in any way they can. I stayed here and travelled to different islands which I think is better to see the Maldives rather than been secluded to one place. I will miss it so much and I will definitely be staying there next time.

Just 10 min boat ride from the airport. They are used to handle connecting customers to other resorts. Easy to communicate.
Overall good property in a nice location. Convenient to Male airport and nice boat transfers to/from the terminal. Service and facilities were fair, nothing special. Service was so-so; not bad, nothing remarkable. Cost is extremely expensive for the received service.

Location is good, 2 minutes from the pier/shore connecting the airport and the hotel, and there is a van taking you from the shore to the hotel in 1 minute. The property is old, smell of an old hotel. Cleanliness is mere acceptable. Towels are not crispy clean. Room size is alright. Buffet breakfast is reasonable. Staff is helpful, my connection to and from airport is well-organised. They even liaised with my next resort for departure.

An island of calm
This hotel, the best on the island of Male, was an oasis of calm on an island of noise, 1000s of motor scooters, traffic congestion, and general calamity. The rooms were cool, clean, and with comfortable beds.
Well located, one block from seafront docking area. The rooms are nice and modern, although small.
The location is convenient, but the room is also a bit noisy because of the adjacent busy streets and urban areas. The room is not clean, the bathtub drain is blocked, the sink mixer is broken and the toilet flushing control is not functioning well. The hotel requires maintenance to match with the high room charge. Although there are a lot of things that are not satisfactory, the staff is mostly friendly and helpful.
The hotel wanted to charge us an extraned fee because apparently they were not informed by Hotels.com that we were traveling with our 17yo although we had mentioned that in the reservation form and had proof of that. In the end the reception staff was very cooperative and waved the charges.

Had a terrific stay. Very centrally located. Staff was very helpful with providing info on area. Great pool on roof as well as work out room. Definitely would stay again if in the Maldives !!

Hotel Jen probably will get a higher rating if it is not one of the most expensive hotels in Male. It is a decent accommodation, amenities are sufficient, no broken taps or hairdryers. But being the top, I probably would've expected a bit more. 1) Staff did not manage to greet us at airport arrivals hall where we were told they would, we had to go to the booth and found the booth empty, the staff turned up about 5 minutes after. Another couple also couldn't find the staff and went to the booth to look for him, so that makes 2 groups of us. 2) Shower curtain was a bit smelly

Cozy city Hotel
Nice Hotel and for sure the best on Malé island. Centrally located to all loval sights. Nice food on roof top, good view from swimming pool on roof top. Pool needs some maintenance, but all over impression is very good. Be aware: opposite site is a construction site and guest with an easy sleep shall ask for a room to the backside.

I didn't have th highest expectations, but these guys and this place offered amazing service. Their airport shuffle and staff worked exceptionally well for us even though we arrived quite late in the evening. The roof top bar was nice also. All and all a great place to stay before or after your trip to the Maldives.
Perfect in every way!
My friend and I visited Male for 2 nights and stayed at Hotel Jen. We are both students and were looking to splurge a bit on accomodation and we found Hotel Jen to be well within our price limit. We were greeted by the friendly staff at the airport, and were assisted all the way to the hotel. My friend happened to get in contact with a manager at the hotel, who called us personally and asked if we wanted to make bookings at the restaurant which she recommended. All of the staff at the hotel were amazing and went above and beyond in everything they did. One of the girls at reception was incredibly helpful. We had planned to do a day trip to a resort island but had missed the boat due to complications. The girl from reception who had walked us to the dock, brought us back to the hotel and organised another trip for us within the hour and we had a wonderful day at the other resort. The amazing food up at the restaurant on the rooftop is worth trying out. Such amazing service was provided by all the waitering staff, who were always keen for a good chat. The chef even gave us a free dessert as a treat! You can't top that! Overall we loved the place and it made our trip amazing! Thank you Hotel Jen! Hope to see you soon!
Good choice in Male.
Hotel is near to all amenities and can reach all tourist attractions within minutes. Good for overnight transfer and all a day tour of the main island. Hotel itself is an average Jen style hotel. We have tried twice to dine at the top floor restaurant. Food is average. Hotel is clean and staff helpful. A good choice in Male.
Total mess
Upon arrival we were greeted by hotel staff at the airport who did not have our name on the list. They didnt make a big deal out of it and asked us to wait for additional passangeres. We waited for about 20 minutes and were then taken to a falling apart boat. On the boat we waited some more and eventually sailed to the main island - just a few minutes away. On the main island we were stuffed in a car, had to wait until they loaded all bags (in an extremely unsafe manner, had they slammed the breaks those seated in the back would have lost their heads). The hotel ride was under 30 seconds - we could have walked. At the hotel we all formed a line and hear how they try to pursuade every guest to sign up to their loyalty program. Finally, our turn. No reservation. They liked again, and said we were booked for the next day. When we showed them the Expedia reservation they fixed it. Not even once apologizing. As a result, our departure the next day to our resort was delayed (as they told the resort that tried to coordinate witn them our departure that we are not listed). Again, no apology. Not even a free breakfast. They didn’t even offer to help wit the bags. Stay away.

A decent stay - but not as fantastic as expected
Overall a comfortable stay. However, future guests should note that a nicer ocean view can only be seen on the highest floors. We paid for a deluxe room with an ocean view on the 9th floor and were disappointed as it had only a partial ocean view. We asked for a change and were given a room on the 12th floor; it was smaller but the view was much nicer. The hotel charges for a late check out and there are lots of mosquitoes in the lobby although thankfully none in the room.
Jen Male is pretty good hotel to stay in Male. It is close to airport jetty, Hulihumale island jetty, markets, shops and restaurants. The hotel staff are very helpful, cooperative and cheerful always.

My reservation (fully pre-paid) made through hotels.com was not in the hotel system. To make things worse, the room I booked was sold out. Took more than an hour in check in process. I paid a lot extra just for ocean view, which I did not get. Hotel told me that it's hotels.com issue. The view from my room was terrible, a building being torn out. Did not expect such a bad experience.
