A Memorable Paradise at InterContinental Balaclava, Mauritius Our stay at the InterContinental Balaclava in Mauritius was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm smiles and impeccable hospitality that set the tone for an unforgettable experience. Nestled along the pristine shores of Balaclava Bay, this luxury resort perfectly balances elegance, comfort, and Mauritian charm. Location and Ambiance: The hotel’s location is idyllic—a true slice of paradise. Surrounded by lush tropical gardens and the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, the resort offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The architecture blends seamlessly with the natural surroundings, and the views, whether from the rooms, poolside, or restaurants, are breathtakingly serene. Accommodation: Our room was a sanctuary of comfort and sophistication. Spacious, well-appointed, and equipped with modern amenities, it featured a private balcony that offered stunning ocean views. The attention to detail in the room’s design, from the plush bedding to the thoughtfully curated décor, ensured a luxurious and relaxing stay. Dining: The culinary experience at the InterContinental Balaclava is unparalleled. Each restaurant offers a delightful array of local and international cuisines. We particularly loved the fresh seafood dishes, which were expertly prepared and bursting with flavor.
This probably the best resort I have ever been to. Beautiful, beachfront property. Great food. The staff and service were absolutely incredible. From the guys at the boat house, to the staff at the spa and front desk, and even the cleaners, everyone went above and beyond. I am definitely going to come back.
Best Resort!
The resort is amazing. Akshaye made our stay that much better. Will definitely be coming back next year!
Pearl in Balaclava
Absolutely wonderful would recommend it to everyone
Mauritius Gem
Absolutely amazing will be back
We liked everything about the property. Very clean and well kept.
Hotel staff was really helpful but they did not clean the room every day. The beach was really beautiful.
Excellent service but not for swimming
The service and staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. The food was ok. But the hotel is a bit shabby with old used furniture. And Full of mice! The beach is full of rocks and not ideal for swimming
Friendly. Plenty of Indian food. Chips available if you want. Pls request itv They will make for you
very tired, obvious lack of investment in up keep. grubby bathrooms, grub stains on curtains and bed linen. Food not great. Needs a top down shake up.
The stay was very nice.
Short n sweet stay
Room and bed comfortable. Great choice of food for breakfast
A very good and self contained resort hotel. Hotel provide free of charge sea activities like snorkeling, coral watching, kayak etc. The swimming pool is a heated pool and it is so nice to be in the pool. Suana, Steam Bath and Jacuzzi are also nice. They have sandy beach but the sea is with a lot of stones. Every Tuesday they have IHG Members’ cocktails party at 6pm. Wednesday night has show. So overall is a nice stay.
Amazing for kids/ families
Amazing resort, with some evening event almost everyday, and plentry of free sports and water activities for kids. Although there was some bitter experience, as our room’s lock was faulty, and we had to wait for nearly two hours, and call them repeatedly to mend it. The beach is nice, and connected with adjacent Westin hotel’s beach. Makes a wonderful morning stroll.
Excellent trip
Our stay was very good, the service was excellent, people were always keen to help us The food was fantastic, and it was the perfect condition of couple with kid!
I loved how the staff treated me and my daughter But the only thing that bothered me was that the room was dirty
Good choice in Mauritius
Many free water sports activities offered. And overall the staff are friendly and nice. The location is not very easy to find that we would suggest to drive there in day time. The hotel is not new at all but deemed comfortable and clean.
5star stay
Top hotel with genuine helpful staff. They allowed us to check in early and the rooms were class. The free waterside is a great bonus.
Very nice location and facilities. However Very expensive to eat in hotel and very small portions served. Room needs updating and too dark. Plus point shower is excellent.
restaurants are nice and staff are wonderful and see view are good
Great holiday!
Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but there were a few things we really thought could be improved, mainly the F&B and service levels. Whilst some staff were amazing - Ajay, Sam, Michael, and the resort manager Manish, and a few others, ,we thought the F&B area was lacking in terms of a 5-star branded hotel. We reflected our thoughts to Manish and he was very helpful and promised to look into these areas. The beach however, is amazing, especially the sunset!
The staff was very friendly, had a bit of a problem as they received the booking as room only. Had to resend them the booking confirmation from Hotels.com to verify this included breakfast. This made for a very awkward situation at our first breakfast. Our room was neat clean and spacious. Food was good, setting beautiful. Evening entertainment can be worked on. Overall a good experience and enjoyed our stay
Amazing hotel, awesome facilities and great staff.
Terrific facilities. Felt the food was very expensive for the standard provided.
smiling
It was a great trip which we really enjoyed - staff were helpful and responsive and we loved the pools and the activities which we could have done a lot mroe of - the food prices in the restaurants and the prices for activities not in the "package" were incredibly expensive - sometimes 2 or 3 times what you would pay outside the resort which meant we often left the resort for these
We came to Balaclava as a family. The look of the hotel is breath taking; every room has the ocean view. We loved the fact that the hotel was secluded and not in busy areas. The hotel staff are very respectful, kind and always acknowledge hotel guests. The atmosphere and ambience of the hotel is outstanding. There are so many water activities to do in the hotel, you don't have to search or even pay for things to do. On our first night we were entertained to the Mauritian Night dinner on the beach. We could not have come on a perfect night
Beware! Money Stolen from Safe in Room
So where do I start. I had money stolen from my Safe in my room. Yes safe which had my own pin code. I was in the presidentual suite. I have come to the conclusion it must of been opened by a master key. I reported to hotel and also made a Police report. Unbelievable and very disapppinting. Hotel is miles away from civilisation. There are hotel taxis which are very expensive and the hotel staff take a cut. Look online and book external taxi. Not much of a beach. Very dangerous due to rocks. In a nutshell I would not go back.
Relaxed atmosphere
Everything was quite excellent about our stay. The Indian restaurant "Veda" inside the resort was also quite good - although there's room for improvement there.
Great hotel, beautiful views of the beach
We stayed here for 4 nights with me and my husband and two children (aged 7 and 4) and my parents in law. We had a fantastic family room that had a main room with the bed looking out onto the balcony with a stunning view right onto the beach and the pool. This room also had a sofa and chair, TV, desk and wardrobe, off the main room was the second bedroom with twins beds for the children, it was great they were in a separate room so when they were asleep we could close the door and have a drink / or watch TV and not disturb them. They bathroom had a massive bath and separate shower and the whole room was also a good size. My parents-in-law were right next door, so easy for the children to go between rooms. The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful, although the responses times to get drinks / food at the bar was a little slow sometimes. The staff at the kids clubs were exceptional, they were all so lovely and great with my children, Nadia, Clarin and Jessica will not be forgotten by our children for a long time, lots of arts and craft, feeding the fish, etc. They seem to really care for our children (it helps that there were very few children at the time so they were often the only ones there). As a result we had a very relaxing time and enjoyed the two pools (thankfully heated as it was winter and although the sea temp was still lovely it was nice to swim in a warm pool), the spa, the well equipped gym, the watersports and the beach.
Gorgeous but...
Gorgeous, huge and friendly but at these prices the food needs to be a lot better. I went next door to another hotel for dinner on my last night which was the caliber expected.
Celebrated my 60th birthday in Mauritius
This hotel is beautiful and the resort has a lot of amenities to offer. The expanse beach is on the property and was not overcrowded. The property is large and spread our so I was able to get a lot of exercise.
I like the resort. However TV was not working properly..staff are freindly ...Breakfast was included in the booking with hotel.com but it was not reflected in hotel reservations system and I had to sent a mail with evidence to get it done..Bathroom was leaking little but got it repaired.. beautiful views from the room.
Definitely NOT a 5-Star hotel.
By any international standard this hotel falls far short in comparison with other 5-Star rated establishments in the same location. The staff could not be faulted for their welcoming attitude and genuine desire to provide the best service possible but management in general and the actual quality of the buildings left a lot to be desired. We experienced a number of minor but irritating housekeeping failures but the greatest source of dissatisfaction was the condition of the room itself in 2 respects. Mauritius is generally subject to wind. Nothing excessive, but it is regular. Consequently, any room which has a balcony and a main entrance should pay particular attention to draughtproofing both doors. In practice, the gaps between doors and frames were significant. This inevitably resulted in constant wind howl from both doors even when shut. Absolutely unacceptable in any hotel let alone a supposed 5-star hotel. The other major problem was hot water, or rather the lack of it at peak times. The hotel comprises a long string of buildings so the provision of hot water at the extremities (where we were located) would always present a problem but it is one that should have been overcome by now. Despite complaints, apparently nothing could be done about it.
Expensive, poor service I'd never stay there again
First room had a mattress that should have been discarded years ago terrible for my back. After discussion and some push back I was given a second room. Unfortunately the air conditioning kept breaking down and so a second night without sleep. Was promised a new room by the night manager but when I returned from a full day excursion nothing had happened and was told the hotel was full. I refused to accept that I was going to have a third night without sleep so after a number of calls between the staff another room was provided. This one had a decent bed and a functioning air conditioner. The grounds are lovely but the beach is small and water shoes are required due to the rocks. Some staff would require how things were going but never really listened to ones reply. The one positive was the spa thankfully as I need to de-stress from the way my holiday began.
Picturesque but very expensive with poor service
This hotel is extremely expensive when not in all inclusive. Drinks in particular are extortionate and there are no shops nearby. Good points: snorkelling was very good with lots of sealife close to hotel; picturesque setting, and rooms very comfortable. (Other) bad points: poor service from some staff members - check-in took over 45mins (apparently they forgot about us); we had a very early flight - the hotel forgot our wake up call and booked the taxi as pm rather than am (also taxi via hotel is c2x the normal price) and, we couldn't see the ocean from the "ocean view" of our room. Overall the stay was decent but it felt like the hotel was intent on squeezing as much money as possible out of us. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to friends.
Good for arelaxing and anonymous stay.
The Interconti was good value for money, although service and quality of food a bit hit and miss. Lovely wide spread beach area, great airy lobby. The room was a bit tired, bed was large and comfy and the fridge worked well. Unfortunately trays were left on the stairs outside our room for up to 24 hours. But overall we had a comfortable and relaxing stay.
Hotel managed with student trainees no supervision
Although the hotel location is good and rooms are of good size, the housekeeping was not up to the mark. Face and hand towels and shower caps would be taken away and never replaced until you call and follow up with hotel. The staff were trainees or juniors whose work were not supervised. Never saw a Supervisory staff check on the rooms that were cleaned by one junior. Experience at Veda restaurant was equally bad. Staff did not know what had to be served when. Our cocktail drinks came in after we had our main course on the table !! It was nothing better at the Sugarcane Bar; had to wait over 45 minutes to be served with our order. Clear that hotel was being run with too many trainee staff. Upon complaining, regular staff took cover under this and said staff were all trainees and they had to do all the work !!
Rude staff from start to finish - spoiled holiday
The hotel staff were very rude, abrupt and did not care at all about my needs or requests. From room service to the wait staff at the main restaurant - very very poor service. Very disappointing. Very unfortunate. I will not stay here again due to this. The bathroom was not properly cleaned, upon entering the room and during my stay. Any requests from reception or room service or house keeping required a minimum of 4 phone calls and an hour wait, sometimes with the wrong order at my door. The hotel itself is beautiful, on a stunning beach - this however can be found on any coast line in Mauritius.
InterContinental Resort is not recommended
The room number 1112 we stayed in was very dirty. The hair on the stairs of the room was not removed until check-in / check-out. Senso dinner was poor. But it was very expensive. We said we were not Chinese. The hotel judged us Chinese. Mauritius Travel InterContinental Mauritius Resort is not recommended.
Far from city and rocky beach
The hotel is far from the city, so if you want to venture out I would not recommend it. If you want to stay in the hotel all day long then it is fine. They also say its a beachfront property, which is true. However you can not really swim as the place is filled with rocks. Also the service is poor. I had not have warm water and it took them 4 days to fix it, they did give me one free dinner for myself and my family as a way of apologizing. However no hot water in a 5* is poor. Also the bar staff can be rude and take a while to respond. I would not stay here again, much better hotels for that price. Rooms are amazing. Nice decor and comfortable beds. The concierge service is the best I have come across but they were let down by other departments.
Great Hotel
We had a great time. Our stay was totally awesome. We have to mention Alvin, Kevin and Pooja in particular for their outstanding service.
A beautiful property in need of renovation
Our stay in intercontinental was good. In comparison with the other hotel's prices, it was a bit low so was good price wise. The staff is also courteous and efficient. The property needs a renovation badly with the old flooring, furnishings etc. The pool area is good and so is the sugarcane bar- nice place to hang out with live music playing in afternoon & night time. Watersports are free and good. The beach is beautiful but difficult for swimming due to coral reef all around. Transportation is a major problem as the taxis are very expensive. It is better to hire a car for few days rather than taking taxis. The concierge should have some ready tours available - leaflets and all. Party scene is quite bad and i would suggest not to waste your money going to Grand Baie and all. I did not check the area towards filc en flac, that might be nice but not sure. Better to hangout at your hotel and enjoy the entertainment.
Hotel was on the beach location was far from city.
Not a easy access to city centre need to taxi each times works out very expensive. First day in hotel fire alarm started middle of the night twice.we complain and looked after us Well through out our holiday.
Clean nice hotel. Breakfast was included for our stay- lots of choice- buffet of everything ( fruit, cereal, English, dim sum, crepe and more). A number of restaurants in hotel but can be very expensive unless included in your package. Have to relie on taxi or rent a car to leave hotel as not particularly well located to shops and other restaurants. Staff were very helpful and pleasant.
We did not like the 2 level unit where the bedroom was 3 steps lower and the bathroom was not on the same level. Most people will not mind this.
Great experience! Beautiful resort and the team really takes care of you!
Definitely not a 5-star Hotel.
The hotel is tired, hasn't been upgraded for ages. The rooms desperately need to be modernised. The service standards overall are extremely poor right from the way breakfast is set up to how room service delivers food. The basic training for the staff is poor. We spent a few days at the Hilton and Westin and cannot compare them to the Intercon even though this was the most expensive hotel. At best this is a glorified 4-star hotel. The Intercontinental group really needs to get their act together. Only saving grace was Duty Manager Priya who tied her level best to make up despite all the issues with the property. Will definitely come back to Mauritius but never again to the Intercon!!
5 Star plus +
Excellent stay and a beautiful resort. Will definitely return. All round great experience.
A hotel with an amazing view
A very good hotel but room service is extremely disappointing. A hotel of such repute should put more emphasis on the room service aspect.
Great beach
Outstanding hotel Great view Great beach The bathroom was marvelous Nice for honeymoon vacation
Paradise Revisited
In a country which justifiably prides itself on its high end service industry, the Intercontinental Balaclava Fort must surely secure the blue riband. Whether it is the General Manager Michael Janssen or Food and Beverage Manager, Bruno Franchette - or whether it is the attentive support staff who are far too numerous to mention (though thanks in particular to Reekesh, Kervin, Stefan, Veenusha, Veruna, Rishi, Avinash and Sarogini), no detail is too much trouble, as the Intercontinental team strive to make their valued customers feel at home whilst away from home. From the deliciously velvety banana smoothies, hand-wrapped and chilled on the abundantly-provisioned breakfast counter to the exotically fragrant flowers, delicately placed on the luxuriant duvets during the evening turn-down service, the Intercontinental team strive to perfect those little touches which spell class and distinction. Having travelled extensively for both business and pleasure over the best part of thirty years, I have enjoyed and endured a vast range of good, bad and indifferent hotels. It is only fair to signal the highest levels of excellence when circumstances so warrant. Mr Janssen and his team have set the benchmark which other hoteliers can only hope to emulate. I therefore have no hesitation in unreservedly recommending the Intercontinental Balaclava Fort and in congratulating Mr Janssen as well as his team for a job well done.
Nice hotel but few things can be improved
Its a beautiful hotel near the beach, food was awesome, rooms were so clean but at same time we face some issues as well.I hurt my hand and it was bedding and paining badly, we called reception that can you send someone for medical emergency. For 20 minutes no one turns up then my husband called again and they said come to reception which was very disappointing. We requested hotel staff in advance that we are going to celebrate our first wedding anniversary so can you do something special beach side dinner or decorate room, they said we will decorate the room but nothing was done on the actual day. Later on when we asked them they said sorry we will do some other time which was very disappointing because we want to celebrate our special day. They cleaned the floor one morning and did not dry it at all and I got slipped and hurt my back badly when I spoke to manager, he said I apologies and gave me half an hour complimentary massage which is good but this is not what you expect in such good hotels. At dinner time they have very less staff, if something finish at counter you have to request many times for it and still you wont get it. There was no bread at the table I asked 4 times to different people but everyone said we will get after half an hour I gave up and finish my dinner but no one bring the bread. The other issue was we were getting random phone calls at odd hours from reception and house keeping at late night and early morning asking everything ok for no reason
Fantastic Beach Hotel!
Had a pleasant stay! Nice beach hotel with good amenities. But a bit on the expensive side! Food was average and they could do better with a few more eating options, nonetheless a very well located and well maintained hotel. Would recommend the hotel to provide an All-inclusive package for the travelers as there're no eating joints nearby.
Good hotel, beach is okay (bit rocky)
Its a good hotel. However the hotel gave us lot of nonsense about late checkout, which was not appreciated since we were traveling with a small baby as well. Rest of the staff was really good.
Avoid it. Service is terrible
Wifi doesn't work properly and the service is terrible
Going Above and Beyond
I sincerely enjoyed my stay at the Intercontinental. The hotel itself was very nice, with beautiful beaches, comfortable rooms, and decent selection of dining options. What made the stay special though was the quality of service, particularly from the guest relations team. The team noticed that we were there to celebrate birthdays and helped make arrangements to make the occasion special and memorable. I would like to thank Neel for going above and beyond in making my stay an enjoyable one.
very nice hotel
Nice restaurants and even I am an Asian still find the Asian restaurant is above standard. The room is very nice and it is close to the restaurants. Hotel staff are all friendly
Relaxing
The stay was great with lovely friendly staff. Especially the staff doing room service.
Super hotel
Lovely hotel and great service. Excellent internet throughout the hotel. Superb family suites if travelling with kids
Very good
Pathetic Service- not even a 2 star hotel
had the worst time- no hot water for more than 24 hrs - terrible room service - it would take 8-9 calls for them to answer- Television sets dont work and have wires dangling down. I had to cancel my stay in between and move out to a diff hotel as no hot water was there for more than 24 hrs. Management gave us free lunch for the inconvenience but damage had already been done and my first trip to Mauritius was a disaster because of the hotel stay
Bad Experience
It was aulful, service there was very bad, staffs there were very lazy and reluctanted to do anything, hotels facilities are very old, I would never introduce any my friend to stay in this hotel
nice location
it was a very pleasant experience. weather was awesome. huge property
close to beach, nice view
nice view, close to beach, friendy staff, beautiful
17km to the city, and only double priced Taxis
We have booked as Bed&Breakfast. For Dinner are very limited options.
Beach Hotel close to Port Louis
We stayed 3 nights at the Intercontinental. It is about 1 hr by taxi to the airport.
Beautiful location.
Firstly I would like to say the hotel in situated in one of the most beautiful areas of Mauritius. Unfortunately I was quite disappointed with the level of service and politeness of some of the staff members. when we first arrived after our very long 12 hour journey to this beautiful hotel, we realised that all the guests that had arrived that morning were offered refreshments. Unfortunately we had to go up to reception to ask for a cold beverage. Not very nice especially when you have had an extremely long journey and not used to such hot temperatures and humidity. Secondly when we arrived at the breakfast dining area on 3 out of 11 occasions our tables were given to us only to find out that when we got up to help ourselves to some food that our table was then given to someone else. Which as you can imagine caused some issues amongst not only ourselves but other guests that were staying in the hotel. Lastly because of the complaints that I made with manager of the breakfast dining area about the issues that we were having, my wife and I were repeatedly getting extremely horrible looks from him throughout the rest of the trip.
Excellent
Excellent hotel. Food quality only OK. Only problem is that our suite had a key problem. Every time we came back to our rooms, the electronic card was not working. We complained and it went on for 5 days. Never improved. Other than that, everything was great.
InterConti Mauritius
Very nice hotel. Mattress was extremely hard - not up to scratch for a hotel such as this. Great facilities and dive shop.
Lizards in hotel
The hotel is nice and staff are helpful. The main problem is that it is full of lizards. Each night when we return to the room we find a lizard in the room. The hotel is also very isolated from any store or shop.
It wasn't a good choice!
The service was so bad!!
The hotel is excellent
I stayed during 5 night .. very comfortable and super friendly
Nice Hotel but very pricey....
If you are going to stay here then you should go all inclusive as it is very expensive to eat at the resort restaurant. Also, the location of the resort is away from the town so you have no choice but to eat there. Lastly, DO NOT get a taxi from the hotel as it is a rip off instead call one from hotel and agree an amount. use taximaurius. They are really good
it's ok , nothing special, definitely not a 5 star
Hotel is in middle of nowhere , can't go out for a walks , have to get taxi every time you need to go out. Very expensive , taking advantage because there is nothing nearby, food in restaurant not up to our liking, buffet restaurant is ok.
The hotel is in need of maintanenence
The hotel service is good but some of the rooms are in strong need of renovation. We changed room and had to pay some extra 50$/day for the upgrade. But other guests was telling horrible stories about their rooms , so how it claims to be a five star hotel is beyond my understanding. Maximum a four star for this place. Service was good and efficient. Staff very friendly. The hotel is on the beach but the beach is a bit stone filled and not soft sand.
Nice hotel with pleasing view of the ocean.
The hotel staff were very professional and helpful. The accomodations were pleasantly more than what was expected. Some of the services that were available were not mentioned upon our arrival and the all inclusive items were not explained enough in detail which may have resulted in more charges during check out. Although all of the staff was very pleasant some lacked experience in providing the service that their position required. Prices for food and lodging overall was good however some items for purchase were sold at unreasonable prices. The wifi was great and was available throughout almost the entire hotel. The scenic ocean view was outstanding and the grounds were well maintained. The 24hr room service offered a big variety of good food that was delivered in a very timely manner. Overall I would definitely recommend this resort to a friend that visited the area.
Was good
The hotels is very clean. i would recommend this hotel for honeymooners and couple only.
Mini-Moon
The hotel itself and the buildings are great. The room was excellent (Executive, beach facing) and we thought that most of the other services offered were in line with what we should expect from an Intercontinental Hotel having stayed at several other properties in the Hotel Group.
Not 5 star!
While the hotel has everything going for it , the service is nothing short of shocking. I have stayed in Intercontinental across the globe - the Mauritius site bring shame to the name !
Th biggest gripe was with the service provided at the hotel, ranging from management down to restaurant staff. It took exceptionally long to order food, and even drink orders could not be fulfilled in a timely manner. In one particular incidence the drink orders came long after we had received our food. In addition to timelessness was being ill prepared, serving tea with no sugar, desserts with no spoons etc. Although the resort staff were very polite their attitude was very lackadaisical. In terms of cleanliness, the housekeeping staff often had to be reminded to refill room items such as clean towels etc, at times the rooms didn't even seem to be thoroughly cleaned such the bathtub being dirty etc. The hotel did make an effort to provide non age specific entertainment/programs for the guests, however on a particular night they held a children's singing and dancing activity in the main dining area during dinner which was somewhat disruptive. Furthermore, after booking a spa package, the beautician arrived an hour late stating she was on lunch. This was the general perception amongst numerous guests.
Better pest management needed
3 things really made us reduce the initial good impression of the hotel. <1> There were flies all over the hotel and somehow their pest control mechanism wasn't working at all. Breakfast was impossible, and we found a fly in the breakfast a couple of times. <2> Pest control again - found cockroaches in the room, and a spider crawling over the bed while we were sleeping <3> Refused to accept 3 year old into the kids club as it was a fine print rule that only kids from 4 onwards were accepted (not indicated on the website). A week earlier, we stayed in a 3 star resort at and we would recommend that one anyday over this 5 star. The hotel looks is definitely 5 star and really good, very impressive welcoming, nice pools, nice property overall, good rooms, food is delicious BUT expensive 5 star prices. The staff is mostly friendly outwardly, but displayed complete helplessness at the lack of pest control. There are some freebies like the glass bottom boat, and there are sometimes shows in the day - not the best seen in Mauritius though. A couple of staff encouraged us to stay and spend in the resort itself by as you need to be 'careful in Mauritius and food offered outside'. Having seen the most of Mauritius by self drive and having tried a lot of street food, this sounded ridiculous.
Nice hotel
Beautiful resort on the beach, infinity pool. The family room was big with 2 bedrooms, great for kids. We had problems with ants in our bathroom and after reporting it 3 times, our room was changed and the it was all good. Good entertainment in the evenings as well.
Needs improvement
This was an all girls vacation, so we had 3 to a room. The room was spacious and comfortable and we were pleased with it. Unfortunately, we had two complaints that put a dent into our vacation. Firstly, we had to call the hotel service every day as the room service staff did not replenish our towels after their rounds. One day, we had no hand towels, another day we were missing bath towels, etc. Secondly, the restaurants in the hotel was always fully booked and we ended up with having room service most days or eating at the buffet restaurant all the time.
Wonderful people helpful and charming. .. Beautiful .x
nice facility near beach
We were at Intercontinental for a week and I must say it was a very good experience and I would definately go back to Intercontinental. Our room was a family room with sea view. It was near the coco bar and Senso restaurant and more importantly near the pool:) My boys loved swimming there and me and my husband explored the other facilities the resort offered for its guest like boat ride, kayaking, water skiing etc. The experience was awesome! We had food at Senso Restaurant and at Coco bar and I must say that their food quality is amazing with so many different things to offer everday, especially the fresh fruits :) The staff is very friendly and polite, always ready to listen. I really liked Halla and Joenathan. Also Arun and many more. House keeping could do more, though they did their best at cleaning , they could improve in repleneshing daily things without being asked for. For example like if they saw that the body lotion, sweetener etc had been used up, they should have immediately restock it. I had to call them a lot if times to get these things.
Scramcuous
Had fun, food was great and service was good
Is okey.
A bit old hotel, food is not very nice, only in one restoran nice lobster soup. Very strange rule about that taxi can't come to the lobby parking and you have to walk 60-70 meters, not very comfortable
Smart hotel average location
average location, very smart hotel comfortable rooms,if not on all inclusive food is very over priced. beach is not for swimming more for lounging
Nice hotel by the beach but disappointed
Room issues : • Had to call in front desk for service to repair TV (1 time), • Air-conditioning had to be repaired( called 2 times before anyone came) • Didn’t replace towels daily and didn’t provide face and hand towels after repeated calling (3 times) • In order to get hot water you always had to wait for the water heater to activate and flush out the cool water system. Therefore you had to run the hot water for 2-5 minutes prior to the heat working. Customer Service/Guest Relations • Guest relations was rude at times during our check in when my wife was requesting some sort of credit for not being able to check in on the first night of our booking. They didn’t offer any type of deal (discounts on spa packages or free packages, or discounts on meals, etc. ). They only told us to request discount from expedia. Their focus on customer satisfaction is obviously not there. We weren’t even asking for a rebate of the night we didn’t stay. Dining at hotel restaurants - All restaurants with the exception of one (Senso), required reservations at least 1 day ahead of the planned dinner, however we noted that on one day we wanted to book Segala, the staff informed that they were fully booked; however when we passed by during the time of our requested time, we noted that the restaurant was 20 to 30 % filled (70-80% of the seats were available).
Middle of nowhere
I am not fond of resort style accommodation and had chosen the location because of a conference I attended. Food and drinks at the resort were over-priced but there were alternatives because of the remote location. The check-in process was inefficient and during my stay I felt like a milk cow rather than a guest.
Nice Place to stay
Nice Place to stay and hav romantic time but only problem is very far from restaurants and shopping area
The hotel is generally nice with very friendly staff and in a good location with easy access to many attractions in Mauritius.
Hotel is totally isolated !
This is a resort hotel, beach front with recreational facilities. However, it is very far from Mauritius International airport (around 75km, US$80 one way taxi fare). It is also totally isolated by itself with no shops/restaurants/houses for several miles. And the hotel did not offer free shuttle to anywhere and only offered high priced taxi transfer. Once, inside the hotel, the hotel guests are trapped and the hotel restaurants are as usual expensive. For mobility, I had to rent a car at US$80 a day. This hotel is only suitable for guests who wish to stay inside the hotel and enjoy the facilities. It is not suitable for guests who wish to explore other attractions in Mauritius. Also, the hotel has no elevator/lift at all. The rooms all have 3 steps from entry foyer to bedroom. It is not suitable for guests with mobility issues. The staff were very friendly.
Good resort with few negatives
Everything is great at this resort expect few cons as below: Sand not fine at beach. Lot of small rocks. Food is very expensive and quality not 5 star Not recommended if you are single and in Mauritius to Party. Good place for families.
Value for money
This is a five star hotel that unfortunately has succumbed to providing package holidays. This meant that most of the catering is in the buffet style rather than personal service. That said the staff were really friendly and concerned for your enjoyment. We also found the quality compared to the price was excellent. It was definitely value for money. One downside was wine was massively overpriced (the cheapest bottle was £40) but it kept us sober while we were there!! The rooms are very nice and spacious but starting to need updating. The outdoor areas are amazing. Fabulous beach, two pools, tennis courts etc. There is also some entertainment on every night. We would definitely go back.
family stay
Excellent, only the buffet restaurant and the beach is average
Good hotel, but not a 5 star
Good hotel, but significantly worse than other Intercontinental hotels, definitely not a 5 star. Beautiful design, nice room, great bathroom, a bed wasn't very comfortable though. Beach looks good, but the sand is too coarse, you can't really walk without shoes. Food was really bad, including breakfast buffets and all the restaurants. Staff is quite alright, concierge was very helpful. Location is not great, isolated from everything. No restaurants, supermarkets, shops within walking distance( 20 min taxi drive).
Not a 5 star Hotel
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Its only redeeming feature was its ability to accommodate a wedding party-suitable space and venues for functions etc.Apart form that the overall service and amenities left a lot to be desired.Whilst the rates were reasonable to good this is not an excuse to compromise on the quality of service which included poor quality products in the bathroom, mouldy smell from the toilets, vague and tawdry service at times as well as a disorganized reception.I will expect the usual courteous response to this letter from a "Manager " of the hotel-but please sir do not waste your time as I am sure it will amount to nothing-saw a few Manager types who seemed to do nothing other than stand around with silly grins on their faces.I do not blame the staff per se but rather the attidue of the owner and the senoir management as by comparison my wife and I spent a further 3 nights at the Bell Mare Plage -yes more expensive but a complete contrast in terms of quality and service.
Excellent Hotel
The hotel is wonderful and the staff go out of their way to help. Guest relations manager Mr. Aldo was especially very helpful. There was a great breakfast spread with something for everyone. The family room has one master bedroom (with sitting area) plus one children's room (with twin beds), a huge bathroom and a balcony. The room size is very good and perfectly comfortable for four adults also. Our room was on the ground level and the beach was just a few steps away. We will definitely be back.
