Great Stay
Amazing Stay
True 5 star. staff in reception extremely helpful and the staff in the restaurant was beyond excellent. I would give them a 20 out of 10
Clean and comfortable for a short stay
A nice clean hotel. rather unnecessarily large building with a small beach which is difficult to get to as it falls of a cliff and has rocks. Three small restaurants - one of which was closed and they did not warn us in advance or at check-in. Limited options for vegans - and the duty manager told us to call the other restaurants to see what was on offer rather than trying to help us. Not the service expected of a 5 star resort. Otherwise very nice and friendly staff. Would probably not revisit as limited things to do in the hotel - they charge for bicycle use even.
Fantastic staycation option enar Chennai!!
We chose this location for a staycation with our family. My father has had recent health issues and hence his ability to move has been limited. Going to this resort was a way for us to enjoy some down time as well as letting my father move about and enjoy. From that perspective it proved to be a great choice. The hotel is very nicely structured with a wide corridor that's great to walk around - which my father enjoyed. The rest of the family enjoyed the private beach, the shack, the swimming pool and the recreation room. I even enjoyed some street cricket by the beach with a few other guests (the equipment was brought by the guests, not provided by the hotel). The rooms are nice & spacious and the hospitality top class. Couple of things to improve on - (a) the Melting pot is the only functioning restaurant during week days. If you are planning to stay purely at the resort, that can be a bit boring. The shack by the beach has drinks and snacks but isn't a full dining place and Tao of Peng was entirely closed during our weekday-trip. (b) The resort does not enforce dress code in the swimming pool. You will see people swimming with all sorts of attires. It is a well kept pool and the experience is great, but you might put off by people showing up in the pool in their normal clothes. (This is kind of normal in India, but I would've expect IHG to have international norms). Overall great!

The staff were magnificent, all very helpful especially amen in the breakfast area. Food was great high quality with a good selection of European and Indian dishes. The facilities in the room were good with access to English language films and sport. It was a bit away from everywhere else and there could have been better facilities on the beach as the sea did look inviting. On the whole thumbs up all round. It is what I expect from a 5 star hotel.
Amazing service and comfortable room
Business travel. Room: Spacious and clean room, with fantastic service. Service: Staff were extremely attentive, friendly, and accommodation. Could not fault the service at all. Breakfast spread: good variety, food taste was probably ok-ok at best. Gave the breakfast a 6/10 rating and the chef came knocking at my door to offer a note of apology with a cake and fruit platter. I didn’t feel this was necessary, but appreciated the gesture very much. Again a testament to the staff’s commitment in providing top notch service. Hotel compound: the resort felt a bit ‘sterile’ to be honest, and the garden between the main building and the beach felt redundant. Overall a very comfortable stay, and once again can not commend the staff more for their attentiveness and warm hospitality.
Fantastic property with unique atmosphere
.
Saw a small roach in room. Cleanliness needs to be improved but property is extremely beautiful and serene.
Amazing property. Rooms are big and very nice.
We liked everything including being on the beach.
It is a relatively new property with great amenities inside the room and in the hotel generally. The food is great in all restaurants. They also direct access to the beach and a beach shak operated by the hotel as well. The shak is right on the beach and in the evening they put tables very close to the water. The vibe, food, and setting in the shak is amazing. The food in the main restaurant for breakfast and lunch is fantastic as well. The hotel has a well equipped gym as well. The spa is amazing too. The pool is also nice 11M/25m which is really good if one wants to train. There is a nice crocodile bank close to the hotel. The hotel staff was gracious enough to get us a free drop and pick up to the crocodile bank. The hotel is 15kms ( about 20 min drive) from Shore temple and other unesco world heritage monuments in Mahabalipuram. Super convenient and the hotel has paid cab service. What I did not like was the service. Our rooms were not cleaned despite us putting a note for cleaning. We had to call the service many times to get our room cleaned. The hotel was also fully booked so guess that explains. The service during lunch and breakfast was also nothing special. It was still far better than what we see outside of India but having travelled extensively in India, I think the service can get better to match Indian standards. Overall a great experience at this property. I would stay here again and also recommend this to people looking to stay in this property.
Irresponsible behaviour from other in house guests
Bad experience with the breakfast ,people are pushing each other like a fish market ,,,no proper management there to take care of the situation.
Overall stay, the open area, beach and the beach shack
Hospitality, staff behaviour, amenities, choice, variety and taste of food and well maintained rooms, good service
My suite was not ready for 2.5 hours past check-in time and I was made to wait. They finally gave me the room at 5:30pm. When I went into the room there was an almost empty roll of toilet paper. When they cleaned the room the next day, they did not replace the toilet paper. When I went to the lounge for the complimentary happy hour, I waited for over 30 minutes after I placed an order and nothing arrived. The lounge was almost empty. I had a reservation for two night, but I was so frustrated by the terrible service that I decided to leave in one night even though I had already paid for the suite. It was an incredibly disappointing experience I would urge anyone looking at this property to go to alternatives like Taj Fisherman’s Cove or Grand Sheraton.
Very comfortable stay
The huge water body was a treat to watch at. I was very happy to see a man wearing traditional vesti and greeting “Vanakkam”. The food was very tasty. Special thanks to Swaroop Maity, the chef who took special care of us. I used the flashlights lit tennis court also which was an awesome experience. Beach and it’s access has been maintained beautifully. Points to work upon are cleanliness of the main water body. There are hardly any activity to do; no karaoke, no disco; no live music/piano. No activity to engage specially considering that hotel is far away.
Below average
The place needs a lot of maintenance and upkeep. Citing Covid as a reason, they are slacking off on providing several services and amenities - which does not make much sense. For example - for over a 100 guests staying at their premises, they've only provided 4 beach beds. Their on-site restaurant which they claim operates for 24h, opens for breakfast and then only for lunch, and then for dinner. While travelling with kids, this is definitely a problem. They have only one restaurant on the beach which is closed until 5pm. Service is really not great compared to the other 5-star hotels along ECR - which is in the same price range or lower. We left feedback at the front desk and they paid little or no attention to it.
very calm and serene environment
A great leisure property
Was a very comfortable hotel. One of the best
The breakfast is the best and the service was wonderful :)
Delightful experience
Fantastic experience. Great place to stay and delicious food.
One of the best in Chennai
Excellent stay. All time favourite. Suitable for both business and family.
Good 😌 infrastructure. Repeated reminders about checkout time . And no proper information about the facilities available in the resort. Slightly more expensive!
Serivce was amazing and resort is very relaxing. Cood is good as well
Great hospitality!
Lovely lovely people, they go all out to make you happy and attend your needs. Zahir the manager at restaurant, Dhiman the duty manager, Tunu and Roman at the Spa, Tiwari at welcome area, the lady at the dessert station who made especially delicacies for us, all of them were amazing. Whatever we needed and named, they took care of. Pool can be much better and has no character, they shall improve it. Rooms do not have an outside view except at entrance (suites are great). These are the 2 drawbacks which i term as design flaws and shouldn't be as the location is excellent (outside shall flow in) and it is a new property.
The Intercontinental Resort was only fabulous- my family and I had a terrific time. I choose the Club Suite that was very spacious with a sea view. The beach was at the end of the lavish gardens. The Chinese restaurant Tao of Peng, the Gatsby Lounge and the Melting Pot were superbe. This was a great way to unwind at the end of a two week trip to India. Don’t forget to go to the spa!
Though it had a nice bath which we didn’t feel like using because of the water shortage in the city. The shower room did not have the same feel as the rest of the property. Also though the light and fan switches in the property were fancy they were not intuitive as it can take a few days to get the hang of it which is beyond the average duration of stay for most customers. Also the balcony could do with a couple of lounge / easy chairs.
There are other hotels nearby, stay away from this
Room was large and well decorated but service was awful. Keep knocking the door asking for service they can offer. During check-in told us about spa discount for guest but during the bill they charged full and tells me it is my fault not having a coupon. They don't havre any idea of customer service. We visited next door Grand Sheraton for dinner and that hotel is much better a lot modern and they know how to make guest happy.
Great property. Service needs improvement.
In terms of property design and ambience, the resort is superior to many other resort/ hotels in Chennai. I enjoyed the sleek suite and all amenities came with it. The spa & Bar is great. However, restaurants and service doesn’t justify 5 star resort. Not sure if will ever return.
It’s a stunning resort without doubt but it’s not clear before booking that it’s fairly isolated. This is OK for a day or two but not longer (especially if like me you’re in India for the sightseeing and culture). If you want cheap food and beers it’s a 10-15 minutes rickshaw down the road!
excellent luxurious rooms - very non conventional & creative; swimming pool was only 4' deep with no view of the gardens or sea :-( property feels like city center property & not beachside one as beach is totally cordoned off & not visible from anywhere except the beachside shack
Good place
The unique layout of the hotel with the pond and the pool, the staff and the cleanliness standard are definitely worth the price.
Excellent property. Amazing staff. A huge shout out to Sarita who works with planet trekkers (kids activities) and to Pravahal (reception). Had a relaxing time by the beach! Thank you
Excellent resort hotel, comfortable and stylish room, Very helpful staff especially in the restaurant. Excellent gym and pool (sea swimming not recommended). Some way from Mahabalipuram and local transport not easy, but worth the trip!
excellent hotel with modern design and layout, very helpful and friendly staff
5 Star stay at 5 star property in Mahabalipuram!
We really enjoyed our stay with Intercontinental Mahabalipuram. The staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable, prepare special meals for our son and my grandmother, who have dietary restrictions. Over and above, their warmth and hospitality made us feel special all the time. Special mention goes to Zaheer from the front desk, Suresh from the welcoming staff, Pradeep and Anup who were the sous and junior sous chef at the Melting Pot cafe. But really every staff member deserves special mention for doing such an amazing job. We will be back :)
Good ambience, great food and clean beach ! Loved it.
Excellent resort
Stayed with family at International. Elegant decor, super comfortable room, excellent food esp huge breakfast buffet spread, extremely polite and courteous staff. Want to thank so many of them but don't remember all names. Special thanks to Tapan and Anup at the restaurant. Would definitely plan to go back there some time.
a case study in bad hotel design
+ nice beach + sarita at the kids club is very patient and friendly - not child friendly - (i) the kids club "planet trekkers" is clearly an afterthought - its a twin room converted into a kids play area...sort of; (ii) there are long passages with water bodies along side without any protection; (iii) all rooms are accessed after a flight of 5-6 steps - and they have windows that open to the corridor - which is a good 10 feet drop. there is a sticker that says that they cannot be opened more than 4 inches - its a retrofitted piece of wood - but its not effective as the windows in our room opened fully. what makes them dangerous for kids is that they are accessible from the day bed next to them that they can climb onto and open the latch; (iv) the basin height is made for the average Scandinavian...was so high that my 6 year old - who has no trouble in normal bathrooms washing hands on her own - was not even able to reach the water, let alone the tap, even on her tippy toes; (v) the swimming pool has no separate children's area or shallow part - its 4 feet all thru which makes it less fun for little ones still learning to swim. there are steps along the length of the pool which are not marked with different coloured tiles or anything to indicate steps - there is only a large area with no partition between the room and the bathroom. and the curtains that make the partition for privacy dont have overlapping channels so there is always a gap! - no hooks to hang wet clothes..
Good clean hotel. It is an expensive hotel considering the fact that it is faraway from all the attractions. It has a nice and clean private beach. The restaurant was overpriced and the food was average.
Amazing resort
Loved the pond view from the room. There were lot of fishes in the pond. Easy walk to the beach. Breakfast buffet was good, had good variety. Close to tourist destinations, no traffic. Friendly staff, traditional welcome.
Great experience... One of its kind... Good staff and ambience... Best for family and friends
Excellent stay
Fantastic service ethos, from the check-in and concierge to housekeeping and most restaurants. Large, comfortable rooms. Only the entrance driveway seems rather oddly designed.
Relax
The hotel is new, nice and clean ... very big and dlhas its own beach. I can consider this hotel only for relaxing! The beqch has high current .. it is very dengrous to swim. Has just one pool!?!?!!!! 2 restaurants and one beach bar along with food truck. Food selections very limited!! No taxi available around the hotel .. you have only to use hotel transportation to visit the attractive places which is aroind 15 mins by car!! And it is very costy! Nothing around the hotel and no walkable places
Outstanding
We were there on a week day so there were few guests. The hotel is new modern and clean. Good many choice of restaurants. Beach area was clean and the pool was excellent. We enjoyed pleasant stay. Hope to come again.
