Although an older hotel it is nonetheless well maintained and its staff very professional. We will be happy to stay again.
Satisfied
Happy to stay in this hotel again
A real bargain for an excellent service
Excellent hotel. Huge room, fantastic bed, it worth the location. The service is very important for the hotel and more than any other thing, they are honest. It is a real bargain at this price.
It's an old style 5 star hotel. The building itself is old but the staff do well to keep up a good welcoming service. Rooms are of decent sized. Best part was having the metro station exit (number 7) right by the front door of the hotel. Very convenient to get to Pudong airport on metro and maglev.
It was nice to stay this hotel
Nice, clean, a bit old school.
Nice place, nice staff. A little old school but comfortable. the breakfast buffet was big, but for a Scandinavian, I was missing some things, but I think that's normal.
Great location, comfy room, excellent service and close to the metro, line 2 and 4.
convenient and good place
the people needs to improve the communication
Its okay
Really close to the subway line. Kind of out dated. The gym is a joke though. They placed only cardio equipment in 2 rooms and called it a gym so only 4 people can work out.
Excellent experience. Everything was great. I stayed in the executive room and had ordered two items from JingDong which came after I checked out. A manager Chen arranged to have them shipped to my parents' address in Shanghai. He really went extra mile to help customers. Kudos to him and other employees at HuaTing.
Good overall hotel, in a convenient location that unfortunately does not boast anything special. Close enough however to underground train lines 1 & 4 to travel easily to other places in Shanghai. Breakfast was OK but during the busy days we stayed there it was a struggle to get to some of the popular foods. Close enough to ECUST campus to attend the symposium hosted there. Good memories overall.
Customer service was exceptional..
nice place
as usual happy to be at that place
It was an excellent expereince on all levels. Thank you so much!
The hotel looks nice from the pictures, but I needs desperate updating in the rooms. Most staff, aside from the door man and the housekeepers who were wonderful to me were VERY SHORT with me and not accommodating. The website states airport shuttle. Free, to and from. “ airport. The staff stated, not to MY airport when I tried to have the shuttle pick me up from the airport. So when I arrived at the hotel I looked in their literature and found “ free airport shuttle to and from airport “ it does NOT state or specify which or only one. I traveled throughout China for five weeks. No problems and EXCELLENT service every where else. With a rating this high I expected the same. Would NEVER recommend this hotel.
Fantastic breakfast!!
Too Old
This hotel mattress and all furnitures are too old. Especially, bath rooms are looks very old and not quite clean.
Hotel is a little old but the location is good.
Great location and convenience
Overall is pretty good. Great location with subway station next door, which is very convenient for travel in Shanghai. The are not many power plugs in the room for charging the phones, and no plugs nearby beds. The shower head cannot be taken down. Relatively older facility compare to other newly built 5-star hotels in Shanghai. But with such good price, I highly recommend it.
The hotel overall is good. Very good location, you can have all transportation
I have stayed in this hotel many times in the last 25 years. Hwa Ting holds a special memory for me and my family. This time, I enjoy staying here except that air condition is not working well. The room was very warm.
This hotel needs to be updated asap! The whole facility is pretty old! The breakfast costs too much! The people are very nice and helpful!
Good location which is just step away from Metro. Aged but still clean in acceptable level and room space is bigger comparison to modern new hotel. Nice staffs
OLD HOTEL, NO TRANSPORTATION
We had booked 4 bedrooms for this hotel months in advance online through Expedia, I had left detailed notes of our flight details as I had believed that there was free transportation on the way back as it states on the site "Free airport transportation - drop-off ". Please be aware there is no free transportation to and from the airport what so ever. When we arrived at the hotel they had placed us all on separate levels which was frustrating since we booked the rooms together we expected to at least stay on the same floor. Each room we had gone into had a very strong smoke smell in the bedrooms as though someone had just smoked in our bedrooms even though there were no smoking signs everywhere. We went down and the reception knew exactly what we were talking about instantly gave us new rooms which were all on the same level and close to each other ( which he could've done in the first place ). The smell in the bedrooms was much better. The heaters in our rooms were constantly on high and we were unable to adjust it as all of them were broken. The only way they were able to adjust this was by opening the windows which is not what you want when hiring a hotel on your holiday.
An old grandeur in desparate need of a makeover
This used to be one of the first five star hotels in Shanghai, with the elaborately fancy lobby to back it up. However, it was evident that they let the place go: 1) the fitness center has exercise machines that are rusted and nonfunctional, the steam room in women's locker room is also nonfunctional; 2) the hallway is inundated with cigarette smell; 3) the bathroom of the guest room begs a remodeling as the cracks in between tiles are not clean.
It's old 5-star hotel. It's outdated and needs renovation, but maintained well by its staff. The swimming pool is only 6mx12m as told by fitness staff. Don't understand how a supposedly five star hotel can have such a tiny pool.
the carpet is in great need a replacement not the friendliest people working there
Old hotel living in the past
First they insisted on charging about an extra 20% above the price I prepaid through Expedia. This reflects equally badly in Expedia. The hotel was grand but us now worn and overpriced with unfriendly staff. Look and you'll find somewhere newer, better and cheaper
Close to subway station
The location is good although the hotel is a bit old. Room condition is acceptable. The price is reasonable. We have met some problem upon check in. The staff took one day to confirm with Expedia on extra bed charges. Hope Expedia could do better
clean and comfortable hotel
Great hotel. about 70rmb from HQ airport and about 130rmb from pudong airport. very clean and the staff were very helpful with good command of english. the location ok but all the shops and restaurants are a little walk away.
n/aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Convenient for transportation
Hotel staff were helpful and pleasant. However, Hua Tings reputation as Shanghai's first five star hotel was well deserved - the hotel is so old that the door frames were chipped, the paint was peeling on some of the furnishings.
Business hub
I have stayed at this hotel several times over the 15 years that it has been there I highly recommend it but the business centre is very expensive ie printing out 20 pages of documents cost 40 AU DOLLARS Overall good
Nice location
very good
Not all that glitters is gold
Non-smoking hotel but had to move rooms due to smoke ingress. Bathrooms could do with some organic mould remover. Quite disgusting. Breakfast and lunch buffets were excellent.
covenient and clean
excellent services
A strategic hotel with subway station next to it
Variety of local food stalls available around the hotel
Convenient and clean - lots of food around
Good for business travel
Nice Hotel with reasonable prices
Good location .between the two main airports and not far from the city center. Not.bignissuenifnyou want to reach airports even during rush hours. Business hotel
Good hotel
Special thanks for allowing late checkout (due to my morning doctor visit & return back to hotel later than noon.)
Excellent service and location .Everything in near by.
Excel location, dirty Rm, lots stains.
Lobby looks 5 star hotel, but disappointed at the moment entering room, chairs and carpet disgusting dirty filled up with countless stains, however, the bed sheet was clean and felt comfortable. Overall, this hotel should ranked as 2-3 star hotel.
Bad internet accesd
The connection is very slow, and unstable. I couldn't connect through my iphone. Ther are no AC in the elevators, nor on the corridors. The good things is its near to line 1 metro station.
overall good
awesome hotel however room seems a bit dated. wiil stay there again
Horrendus Service!!! Security Breach!!!
Imagine you are a woman lying naked in bed and the door of your hotel room opened and you hear a man's voice at the door step? That happened to my girlfriend when I was out for meetings. How can a room we are staying in be assigned to another guest? What if there is no one in the room and all our precious belongings are stolen? Or even worst a sex crime happens? How can this sort of simple security breach happen in a 5 star hotel? How can it happen inside a Sheraton, an international chain?
Hotel lobby is excellent, it's spacious and clean. Staff throughout hotel are excellent and Friendly. Free wifi in lobby however could not get wifi in room, difficult with European phone number. The only negatives were the carpets are the same as our last stay three years ago and were worn, could be replaced. Fitness room should be equipped with air condition. We have stayed in other hotels in Shanghai but this would be our first choice in the future.
Grand building outlook but dirty room interior
Grand building outlook but grieving room interior. Unmatchable dirty carpet and toilet, full of staining.
Old 4 star hotel
The condition of the hotel is not great. Mould almost everywhere in the bathroom. I specifically asked for a non-smoking room, but still a smoking room was given. The only positive thing is the hotel is 1min to subway and many good restaurants around
great location, reasonable price
We stayed for four nights. It ls located right next to subway station, very convenient to travel around town. Our room is on the 21 floor so traffic noise was not a problem. Will stay here again if we visit Shanghai.
Shanghai Delight
absolutely wonderful place to stay. Located at a Metro stop, easy to get anywhere in Shanghai. The staff is so helpful too! They went out of their way to make me feel welcome and special.
Value for Money. Good decent hotel, good service
Hotel staffs are excellent! Helpful. Rooms are a little dated, so a little dirty (especially in bathroom tiles). The hotel is allegedly a 5star in Chinese standard, but probably for room condition, more like a 3 star; the service is excellent though. Very good service.
The hotel is conveniently located. Easy access to the airport and all central attractions. There is a subway station right outside the hotel.
Ok for short trip
service is good, but the hotel is too old. Too hot as the it's central heating for all the room. Can't turn the air-conditioner on. Otherwise is fine.
Great City Views
Great city views. But the toilet was too old though.
Stop over
This would be the last time I stay in this hotel
I have stayed in this hotel in last 8 yrs when I traveled to Shanghai. The hotel is in desparatel need of renevation. The rooms were very dirty especially the bathroom.
Over-rated hotel - Will not stay there again
Will not stay here again. My room smelled like an cellar, temperatur control did not work. The quality of the food on the hotel resturant was below expectations.
Good place to stay.
The hotel was very comfortable and conveniently located. The atmosphere is very relaxing, and this is due to the staff who work there.
Will consider another hotel next time...
We are a family of 4 with 2 boys ages 2 and 5. We picked this hotel because of its location and knowing it's at least a 4 start hotel. However, compared to hotels in the US, I would rate it between 2 and 3 stars based on a number of poor experience during our 2 week stay there. 1. Carpet is extremely dirty. Housekeeping only uses a shopvac. 2. Bathroom shower head cannot adjust flow rate nor position. It splashes water on the floor easily even with the shower curtain carefully extended. 3. Housekeeping does not replace items used. We had to call few times for missing items such as soap, shampoo and towel. 4. Desk chair is broken with metal pieces sticking out. 5. AC does not function well. With Shanghai being humid and hot, we had to set the temperature to 50degF to get the room cool down slightly. Called housekeeping to fix issue. They said the "pipes are probably blocked. It will be too much effort to clean. Just open the window". We are on the 21st floor with 2 small kids. And, it requires a special tool to open that only housekeeping is allowed to do. 6. Lighting in the room is poor. The ligh bulbs used are all very yellow and are not very good lighting source. 7. All the room on the floor is labelled non-smoking. However, during our stay, someone was smoking in a room across from us with the door wide open for 2 days. We would likely consider another hotel for price we were paying.
Smoke in a Non Smoke Room
We have stayed Hua Ting for many trips in the past. We always liked it before because it is convenient and clean. On this trip, we realized that you improved service, but the room condition was not satisfied. We booked a Deluxe room, but when we walked in, it had smell which was like an old temple and no one used it for a long time. We never had a hotel room like this before. You moved us to a room in a business section at 24th floor. It was ok for the first three nights, then on Saturday night when we came back, we smelled smoke in the room and this is a non smoke room. We thought it was just some one next door might be smoke, we even used towel to stuff the room door bottom and struggled a few nights, then reported to the front desk. We were told that the season is changing and they are adjusting the air system. But we always visit Shanghai in October and stayed Hua Ting many times, but we never had this experience. This is not acceptable as we could not sleep well many nights due to the smoke. After complain, the situation was much better and we finally survived our trip. We know the hotel is getting old, but please repair the air system, so Hua Ting can keep the reputation and continue to give a better service. Thanks.
A 4.5 star hotel without AC.
I stayed for two night. It is Nov 2-3. My room faces the east and in the morning, the room is very warm, the AC didn't work and the hotel explained it is central AC, they didn't turn it on. In the night, the room became cold, the AC didn't work either. All their solution was to help me open the window during the day to cool down and at night they offered an extra blanket. Come on! It is 4.5 star hotel. I was very upset.
Worst in Shanghai I ever stay
This is worst hotel I stay in Shanghai I book a king bed room, when I check in this guy Alan told me none of the room they have is king at that time he ask me to pay ex 100 per night for better room,I agree to pay when I go up the room is worst than the one I saw in picture small and dirty so I call him again than he ask me pay another 300 to get a better room, they do that just to made money, finally I got a clean room but old and have to pay 400 more per night!!! Stay away!! You get much better hotel for that money!!!!!!
Best value for the money! Shangri-La = local price
Stayed here the second time! Love the staffs and hotel cleanliness and ammendities
2 min walking distance from 2 metro stations!
This hotel was really great. The hotel is central located, by 2 min walking distance to 2 mayor metro stations. We got a nice room on a high floor with an excellent view of the city. The pool, sauna and gym were definitely a plus. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Great stay!
Enjoyed for staying at the hotel.
Good experience. Highly recommend.
Great location
Fancied a change from IHG hotels so went for this as an alternative. The location is great and the area feels comparatively clean and always safe. I paid extra for a Club room on 25th floor (free breakfast, happy hour drinks/snacks, laundry/dry cleaning, Internet) Desk staff was courteous and welcoming. Despite the great view, the room was tired and in serious need of updating.
Will stay again and again and again! Why?
Clean rooms and very polite maid services who does a very through job cleaning up! For the package I paid for, I had access to the club level facilities which means cocktails, fruits and breakfast delivered to room! I had also the free laundry service which was worth every cent spent! The laundry pickup, room services for food and the front desks were all polite, efficient! I would recommend anyone signing up to also prepay and include the breakfast. The food spread is pretty good and cost much lesser to prepay! Yes, I will stay here again and would recommend it to anyone visiting Shanghai. Only part I missed and did not check out was the pool and gym.
location is very convenient
The location is very convenient, room is big and clean.
Easy access to Metro. Reasonable price.
I used to stay here years ago when it was a new hotel. Still very nice.
If there are different power plugs in the room would be helpful.
reasonable price hotel for this level
I heard that this hotel is old when I booked this hotel. But when I stayed, I found it is very well maintained and clean hotel. Food is expensive if you buy inside of hotel. I recommend to make it Breakfast included package. Hotel has fitness, Massage, Swimming pool, and large jacuzzi hot tab.
Reminiscent of our first hotel in 1988 but
The biggest disappointment was the poor WIFI connection both in the room and in the public areas. I had to choose another nearby lower *** hotel with better service and WIFI.
Too old building
It is very old hotel. Reception is very nice, warm service. But the building is so old, room clean but conditions too old. For location and cheap maybe stay again
Good value for money, located next to subway line.
This hotel is very comfortable and good value for money. It is well located near the Shanghai sports stadium and is less than 100 m from the subway. A selection of restaurants in The local area is a little limited and there appeared to be a number of interesting massage establishments in the area. Overall I was very happy and would stay there again.
Convenient location
I stayed for 5 nights this time. Hotel is sizable but a bit aged. Most taxi driver know this hotel and easy to grab a taxi from the hotel. Subway station is just in front of the hotel. Carpet in my room is aged, bath tab's wall has lot of dark stain, but the bedding is good. My room has poor reception of mobile signal, wifi is slow but the LAN speed is fast. Lots of restaurant choices nearby. I will choose this hotel again if I plan to work around Xujiahui area and the rate is below US$90.
Review
Hotel service is excellent. The location is perfect as the tube is just next to the hotel.Overall a very satisfying stay.
Past its prime
Ok hotel near subway line no. 1 & 4. Bathroom needs refurbishing.
A happy landing in Shanghai
Hua Ting Hotel provided a great start to our China adventure!
Disappointed
I expected more from a 4* hotel as expensive as this; in China, a breakfast for 25 Euros is a lot, therefore I would expect much more than a standard low-profile 2* hotel. Staff is not friendly; in addition, they never replied my 2 emails before to go to ask information. Bedsheets have holes everywhere, they are so used that it is unbelievable to find them in a hotel of this level.
condition not good
booked 2 rooms for 2 night. Ask no smoking but one room was irked w smoke. changed to another but toilet not working. later air conditioning in one of the room not working. location is ok but better off if nearer to XuJiaHui then Indoor Stadium. nevertheless had excellent time w family in the ground floor restaurant. hotel staff speak excellent English! !!! unlikely to stay again.
Please stay away this hotel.
I had the most horrible experience at Jin Jiang Hua Ting Hotel. I was injured because I fell into a hole before the main hotel escalator. They had opened up the floor to fix the mechanicals of the escalator but they failed to barricade the hole or had any warnings about the hole on the ground. My left leg was twisted and bruised substantially from below the knee to my ankle. I was lucky I didn’t fall down the escalator. I cried and cried but no one came to my assistance. I finally was able to reached the front desk and they sent the customer service person (his name was “William”), who was rude, unsympathetic, and not willing to help. After my continuous crying, they then decided to take me to the hospital, fortunately nothing was broken. I just had a lot of pain and swelling the size of a golf ball. The next day, the hotel representative was unapologetic and even to the extent blaming me for not being careful. Not only did they fail to take care of me, they even increased my room rate because I had to stay longer for a few days due to my injury. Fellow travelers, please stay away from this hotel. You will be sorry if you don’t.
I 'd like to come back again.
I like this hotel's services and location.
Breakfast
Big pluses. Buffet breakfast and laundry services in executive suite. Facilities getting dated. Individual room thermostat couldn't be controlled (too hot). Staff accommodating.
Unsafe hotel with rude service
I had the most horrible experience at Jin Jiang Hua Ting Hotel. I was injured because I fell into a hole before the main hotel escalator. They had opened up the floor to fix the mechanicals of the escalator but they failed to barricade the hole or had any warnings about the hole on the ground. The next day, the hotel representative was unapologetic and even to the extent blaming me for not being careful. Not only did they fail to take care of me, they even increased my room rate because I had to stay longer for a few days due to my injury. I paid another two hospital visits. The general manager stated this government runs hotel too big to claim any mistakes or apology. Fellow travelers, please stay away from this hotel. You will be sorry if you don’t.
Wonderful Experience
This was my favorite hotel out of the three hotels I stayed in while on my business trip. The hotel was beautiful, clean, comfortable, and had wonderful staff who all spoke great English. The lobby manager and I had a wonderful conversation after I checked out and was waiting for my taxi to arrive. The only thing I didn't like was that it was loud outside during the night, so sometimes it was hard to fall asleep. This, however, is not the hotel's fault. I would definitely stay at this hotel again and recommend it to others.
Lack of service
I ordered a room with king size bed! Did not have available upon my arrival! Management told me they will change my room next day, but they did not and told me you are here only for one more night it is ok! Roomsdid not have Iron, i asked them to bring one, they said it takes two hours! I am not sure if i would reserve any room in my future trips.
Breakfast expensive
Breakfast expensive
Very good location
Hotel location is good for business travelers , very close to restaurant and underground stations, taxi available all time.t
Good service! Room is big and clean with comfy bed
Good choice!
Nice hotel with convenient location
This is my 2nd time staying with Hua Ting. A family of four with two young boys, we need flexibility, convenience, cleanness and space. Hua Ting provides all those conditions, with its perfect location (walking distance to a number of favored restaurants and transportation stations), flexible hours and revamped interior decor. We loved it. The boys were amazed at the night view of the landscape and went for the "see through" elevator every time day and night. Staff was friendly and professional. The only thing to complain was the check-in process. I had to wait for 15 minutes before being attended. There could be more staff on duty for evening check-in hour (it was a working day around 19:00). There was a line of guests.
Nice Hotel
Nice, clean, convenient place to stay. But no free Internet.
Still good
I have been staying at this hotel for for years on my regular visits to Shanghai and while I know that there are more up to date places to stay I like the location (you can always find the Shanghai Indoor Stadium stop on the subway) as well as the neighborhood. Great breakfast, lobby coffee shop and evening lounge with entertainment. Also a spacious, rather well equipped (by hotel standards) gym/swimming area.
business hotel
Moderately priced business hotel. Comfortable for the western traveler. Good location, easy access to the metro.
Not pleasant unless you are a smoker
The hotel room is very smelly even with the non-smoking room. Also the room is so hot during the day because the air conditioning is not functioning during this time of the year.
Hotel has gone down hill
I was in 1022. The safe did not work, had to have security unlock. The mini bar did not work and there was no soda or food. The TV did not work. The room temperature did not work. The drain for the bathroom tub and sink were very slow. Had to turn off water to prevent overflow.
Good location, but the rooms can be cleaner
Location was good. Food was good. But the rooms were dusty and dirty. I understand the rooms are outdated, but at least they can keep the rooms clean.
nice stay
the only thing to complain about my stay is that the non-smoking rooms smells like smoke. Not ideal, but if you can bare it. Not a big issue.
Definitely worth the money
The service was very good and I was pleased with the location, right near a metro station. While it is not one of the new, modern hotels, the price was very reasonable and I felt it was very worth it.
Ideal location for our personal needs
Hotel is modern and clean and staff are Friendly and helpfull and always someone speaking English. Food is excellent but pricy and drinks are also expensive. We really enjoyed our stay and if we visit Shanghai again it will be the hotel of our choice, really enjoyed it.

Pleasant
So far so good
