A friendly and clean hotel. They make your stay as comfortable as possible
My flight to Malaga was delayed by a few hours meaning I did not arrive until 2am - having called in advance to notify the hotel. I was really grateful that they were able to sort me out without any problems. I liked the hotel so much that I decided to extend my stay here rather than moving to one in Malaga and commuting instead.
Really great hotel in a fairly rural location on the edge of a national park. Tennis court and pool are both really decent, the inclusive breakfast is pretty good and the staff are very friendly.
A lovely friendly place
A great hotel. Lovely views and comfortable rooms with friendly staff. Will stay here again
Awesome
Awesome hotel with excellent amenities and food exceptional location
Competa in September
We stayed in one of the chalets which was well fitted out inside with comfortable twin beds, 2 electric rings in the hob, a fridge and TV. The exterior decor of the chalets is a bit tired and would benefit from some new paint. The hotel staff were excellent and very friendly, the food was good including a good number of choices for the buffet style breakfast. The pool area was very nice with good sunbeds and a view of the coast in the far distance and the white houses on the mountain ridges in between Parking was off street and secured by an electronic gate. A good surrounding area for mountain walking with a lot of walkers evident. The village centre shops, Tapas bars and restaurant are a easy 5 minute walk away.
Good, clean property. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Unable to contact to inform would not be keeping our reservation do to being unable to travel due to being diagnosed with cancer
Weekend away
Friendly staff and lovely pool. Breakfast could be a little more exciting but nice bar meals
All staff were very obliging ,positive and helpful , management were very ready to place us in a more suitable room which was actually very comfortable. Over the past year or so the pool area has been significantly updated . Room updating and refurbishment is in hand reception staff, restaurant/bar staff very efficient , housekeeping staff exceptional. A really homely and comfortable establishment represented good value.
Quaint Old School Hotel
Stayed for two nights while finalising the sale of our property nearby. The staff were helpful and attentive, the room simple but with every effort made to feel welcome in it (three different assortments of toiletries!), and a fabulous view from the balcony. At the equivalent of GBP35.00 per night at the time of booking, it was great value. Breakfast was buffet-style, with hot and cold options - not a vast spread, but every box ticked. I don't think the hotel restaurant operates weeknights, but there are lots of alternatives nearby. Located a short walk from the main square and many of the restaurants, Hotel Balcon is well-situated for making the most of Competa. Access to the hotel and its car park is via narrow streets, and there's a very steep incline leading to the carpark... but if you're driving in this area that won't be anything new.
Typical Rural Spanish Hotel
Great location for the centre of Competa which is a short stole away. All the staff are friendly and helpfull. Great views from the terrace towards the coast.
Home from home
Spent three nights at this hotel. We found the place very welcoming and friendly. The room was homey and of a reasonable size. Good breakfast and pool although it gets busy at weekends as they let other visitors in. The staff were attentive. Ideal hotel to visit Cómpeta.
Bungalow stay
Lovely stay with a very welcoming family. My daughter and I stayed for a week in a bungalow. At first, I wasn't a fan of the bungalow- single bed, separate from the main hotel, not so lovely view- but it grew on me. Easy and reliable airport transfer arranged by the hotel at a cost of £75. Breakfast was typically continental with friendly wait staff, but we were split for voice of lovely restaurants to have dinner around Competa. Cons: 1. the pool was always packed with people who aren't that's at the hotel as the hotel allows anyone to enter and use it, at a charge. 2. 45 minute drive away from coast if that's what you're looking for 3. Lots of walking up hilly terrain and endless steps
Great hotel location
Hotel was central and elevated so lovely views over Competa and the valleys ahead then the sea. We had a superior room with balcony which didn't disappoint. Was near to all restaurants and bars but far enough away to be a quiet location. The breakfast was fine although the same every day - no variation on the items served. It was lovely to sit on the terrace with the amazing views.
Special Place to Stay
Fantastic experience, warm welcoming felt part of the family.
Well positioned hotel with lovely terrace.
The hotel itself was spacious: sunny south facing terrace & pool area. Pool was almost empty in late September. Staff were very friendly & helpful. We were in the bungalows which were fine for a one night stay. They were a bit shabby, peeling paintwork and not much hot water. But we were rewarded by small, private deck area with great view down the valley, only slightly marred by a huge electricity pylon. Despite this, I would recommend this hotel, especially if staying in the hotel itself. As Competa is a small town with narrow streets, the hotel car oak was a bonus.
Peaceful beautiful hotel
The views are spectacular and this hotel exceeded all expectations. Wonderful rooms with balcony and such a comfy bed. Hotel pool area well maintained and lots to do in the area, or just chill and refresh. So relaxing on the hotel balcony eating or with a drink or two. Additional flamenco evening a bonus.
Very good hotel
Staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast bar was a bit limited but the evening meals were excellent. The hotel and pool were kept very clean. Not really ideal for young people or families with young children.Very close to Competa town centre where there are many resturants to choose from but as mentioned earlier, the evening meals at the hotel were excellent. This is a good hotel to use as a base for exploring Andalusia.
Great restaurants
Friendly central hotel
Lovely family owned hotel where you were immediately welcomed and looked after as though you were family too. Very good service, fresh food and reasonably priced bar with stunning views of the valley right to the sea. I recommend the bungalows which are quiet, well equipped and perfect for an independent style stay yet with all the hotel facilities. A3&A4 have good views of the valley.
A wonderful night.
Visiting Competa for a wedding. We had previously stayed in the hotel about 16 years ago. Found ourselves in a very cute little chalet with everything we could possibly need. It was absolutely charming and all the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, we were only there for one night as I would quite happily have stayed for longer. Definitely one to come back to.
We had a fabulous holiday
There were 4 of us visiting our boss who's lived in Competa for 29 years, they recommend the Balcon de competa hotel which we found very good, if we were being picky it was a little 'tired' but the staff, the food, the cleanliness made up for everything, we had a great holiday and hope to return in the near future.
Welcoming staff.
The hotel had a very pleasant holiday 'feel' to it. The room was clean, although the bed was rather hard. A good atmosphere around the pool and the bar but we wouldn't stay again as they really let themselves down with a very inferior breakfast.
Beautiful hotel in a beautiful place
Love Competa and staying in the Balcon was the perfect experience. Clean, comfortable with the BEST staff, every one of them. Special thanks to Maria, Luis, Carlos and the lovely cleaning staff.
A small friendly "Spanish" hotel. The rooms were clean comfortable and suited my needs. All the staff were friendly and approachable. Breakfast was slightly limited in choices but what there was, was very nice. Wifi could be a bit hit and miss but no worse than other hotels and a lot better than most. Will definitely stay again
Peasful and tranquil beautiful views
Excellent accommodation and friendly staff only sorry we didn't stay longer
Overnight stay good hotel in a central position in the town with fantastic views
Good location in pretty village.
Very helpful and friendly staff who helped to make my 'solo' stay comfortable. Situated well for exploring Competa and the surrounding area. Good parking and lovely terrace overlooking the mountains and coast.
Very friendly hotel, maintenance needs work
Hotel staff extremely friendly and helpful, lovely people, could not do more, even waved us off when we left! Food plentiful but dinners a bit bland. Room clean and well serviced but maintenance not quite up to scratch. Missing light bulbs, towel rail falling off wall, thin towels, hair dryer cracked and unusable, holes in wall left where shower repositioned.
Wonderful friendly hotel
How hotels should be, family run and with personal character. Fun bar and cafe used by locals and guests. Authentic food, delicious coffee. Hugely helpful Patron and staff
Staff were fabulous
Belcon de competa
Great staff. Poor room. Very thin walls and noisy room so not much sleep. Ok for a stop over. Communal pool. Food is fine. All staff were very friendly and helpful.
good value with nice views
we stayed in one of the bungalows. was clean enough. maybe needed a lick of paint on the outside. that said the staff were painting during our visit. pool is excellent. views are stunning. breakfast is decent: could be a bit earlier as didn't start until 7am. would certainly stay at this hotel again.
Very nice and friendly.
Friendly and very helpful staff room cleaned daily with fresh bedding and towels a good choice of food at breakfast, very helpful staff . excellent pool and good service
Lovely staff. Friendly and relaxed environment. Fabulous food. Great location for a quiet getaway and some great mountain walking. I will go back.
Competa Experience
Wonderful drive up to Competa. Warm welcome. Parking allocation. Clean, comfortable location, with wonderful views. Excellent evening meal, served on the terrace. Complimentary breakfast. Lovely, picturesque village, but very hilly! We tried to book for a two night stay, but only managed to get one night as they were full! So book early!
Fine hotel, great location; bungalows - not sure..
We stayed at the Balcon for the first time a couple of days ago - we've been to the town many times. We chose to stay in the bungalows not the main hotel - a bit more space & maybe more privacy, but we'd probably not do so again. They've got nice panelling throughout inside, independent air conditioning & fine views from their individual little verandahs, but the bed options (1 sofa bed or 2 singles) aren't v appealing & the single beds were old, creaky, uncomfortable & too small for an adult man (I'm just under 6 feet). The hotel though is lovely, has fine views, good parking, a lovely pool & excellent terrace, the breakfast was good & there was lots of choice, and the staff were friendly and very helpful. (There's also a private tennis court though we didn't have the chance to use that - off early in the morning for a long walk.) We'd choose to stay in the main building next time!
Typically Spanish
We stayed for two nights in early June. We were already familiar with Competa which is very quaint with some nice restaurants and gift shops. There is a great wine festival there in August. This is the only hotel in Competa which is a shame. The booking in procedure and welcome we received was great. Parking is available behind the hotel but is kept locked so you will need to ask staff to unlock the gate by telephone at the time you arrive, the number is on a notice by the gate. It's not a problem if you know about it and are prepared for it. The room was adequate although the room was a bit dark. The bedding was creased but this was just the overthrow. The sheets were OK though. Beds were OK, but the pillows rather hard everyone's idea of a good pillow is different. The bathrooms were dated but clean, however each of the four bulbs above the mirror were all different and one was not working. It would have been nice to have some bedside lamps instead of the stark main lights, but this is normal in Spain. We had a room without a balcony.....just a window. I cannot recall if a balcony was charged as an extra, but as the hotel was far from full it would have been nice to have been given one. Breakfast was rather poor and quite basic with just a few scraps of tomatoes available, only banana yogurts to offer and a long wait for coffee. Bacon and eggs are available to order. The air conditioning worked perfectly and much appreciated. Rather expensive for what you get.
Hotel location
My wife and I was very satisfire with our stay at hotel Balcon. Every tings was o.k. And the next time if we comeback we vill try to get the same hotel.
Comfortable hotel and in a nice town/view
Staff were polite, friendly and helpful. Breakfast and lunch was good and coffee/tea good value for money
enjoyable stay
Just stayed for 2 nights, very enjoyable, nice town, very friendly and helpful staff, breakfast very basic, don't know about the evening meals we didn't eat in the hotel.
Beautiful views
The key selling point for the hotel is obviously the views, which are stunning. Staff are friendly and accommodating and the rooms are clean and comfortable. Breakfast is extensive and tasty.
Great Location, small and friendly
Hotel is a little dated but has good facilities and has very friendly and engaged staff that want to make your stay enjoyable. In the centre of a typical Spanish hillside village with good views and reasonable access back to the coast/main road. Recommended.
An enjoyable stay in Competa
Staff could not do enough to make our stay enjoyable. Would definitely recommend. We wanted to go to the more remote areas to sample the "Real Spain", practice a bit of Spanish etc., all were very understanding and would help with this or resort to English. Indeed many want the chance to practice their English also. The wine Festival was on that weekend and that added to our involvement in the local culture. The roads in and out are a bit tortuous - reminds us of the old Spain before the EU! Fantastic people at this Hotel, very homely.
Nice Views
Stayed for just 5 days, but really enjoyed the hotel and Competa. FOOD- breakfast was ok, nice coffee. Snacks and Meals at night pretty good. 8 out of 10 DRINKS- All good and reasonable prices. 8 out of 10 POOL AREA- A few small problems. Broken tiles on patio area and water didn't look that clean, but probably caused by grass area around pool. 5 out of 10 ROOMS- Though a little dated they were clean, en suites need re tiling. 6 out of 10 STAFF- No complaints here, really friendly. 10 out of 10 LOCATION- A few minutes walk to the main square, 2 handy stores across the road. 8 out of 10 OVERALL- Enjoyed my 5 days in Competa and would be happy to come again, prices in restaurants were reasonable and food good quality. Take good shoes though, some of the streets are a bit steep to say the least.
Great Hotel
Very good hotel. Rooms very good with lovely views. All staff were very helpful and friendly.
Very relaxed
Great staff, great food and a great place to stay.
the most friendly and helpful staff
It was our second stay at Balcon de Competa and it certainly won't be our last. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff are so welcoming and most helpful. The room was clean, comfortable and relaxing. The breakfast has improved from last time, now offering freshly cooked breakfast. Dave on reception speaks perfect english and was hugely helpful to us translating for us when our rented car caused problems. From breakfast to sitting by the pool, to relaxing on terrace, or returning from the many surrounding fabulous restaurants to enjoy a drink on the terrace in the evening, the hotel offers all. But above all, it's friendliness and location are second to none
More than the sum of it's parts
Lovely place to stay with friendly, efficient staff, reasonable breakfast and free parking. Wasn't warm enough to try the pool, but it looked inviting. The restaurant was great - best meal of the holiday! The hotel is old fashioned, family run and has a great atmosphere. It's not modern, but represents good value for money. The only thing that really needs changing is the bed frame in our room, which made a noise everytime you moved.
Spectacular views and friendly atmosphere
The hair raising drive up the mountain road to this lovely village is worth it! The hotel is comfortable and the management are staff are friendly, welcoming and efficient. The accommodation in the hotel is not modern and the facilities are reflective of what you might expect in a 3 star hotel but I think that you will find everything you need and everything works (although the free wifi reception can be a bit erratic). The swimming pool area is pleasant and there are plenty of sunbeds. The food in the restaurant is excellent and it is wonderful to be have your meals on the terrace overlooking the mountain scenery down to the coast (I am told that on some days you can even see the north African coast!). The hotel has a car park, which is a must in Competa. However, there are lot of steps from the car park to the main building. Competa, being a mountain village, has many steep sloping streets. Therefore, access for wheel chair users and those with limited mobility would be something to consider. We had a very enjoyable holiday here.
A pleasant, friendly, Spanish country hotel.
Excellent overall. The food was good and the hotel provided top class entertainment on the Saturday.
Nice balcony with views
Rather dated but great terrace and pool - staff very friendly. Good value for money off season . Excellent buffet breakfast
Two day stay
Having arrived on a Sunday evening around 8pm, I walk into the hotel half way through the Real Madrid, Barcelona football match but Pepe who I think owns the hotel could not have made me more welcome, The room was very clean and spacious, the breakfast had a lot of choice and verity and the coffee was free flowing. All in all I had a good couple of days there and would recommend the hotel to any one.
Fantastic views, set in an attractive village
Location of the hotel is superb, giving great views of the mountains down to the sea from our balcony and the terrace. Pool area and garden very attractive(although used glasses were not removed). Would happily return.
Well located hotel within the village.
The hotel is very welcoming the staff work extremely hard to ensure your stay is perfect. The views are amazing from the terrace. We will defiantly be returning.
Friendly service, excellent value
every member of staff was helpful and friendly. Location stunning, attractive pool & garden.
Excellent Service and friendly staff
Really good location within 200 metres of a path leading to multiple routes on a walking holiday in the mountains. Staff were very friendly and lunch is served until 4 p.m. which is great is you've been out walking in the morning and early afternoon. Good clean pool for relaxing beside, or in, after exercise. Extensive menu, buffet style breakfast with the option of cooked breakfast available for anyone who wants it. Fantastic view from the balcony of the surrounding mountains.
Service and hospitality second to none
Room was ver clean and maintained throughout my stay. Nothing was too much trouble and the help I received was far beyond expectations. Location was first class and the views unbelievable, highly recommend ed for a quiet stay.
Nice friendly hotel
Stayed here for 2 nights and really enjoyed it.The reception staff were very helpful and the hotel is nice with a good size pool. The location is excellent, only 5 mins walk to the square.Would definately stay here again.
Can't wait to go back!
The family that runs this hotel does an excellent job of making you feel warm and welcomed. The hotel is spotless, breakfast is great, the pool is wonderful and the pool restaurant & bar leaves nothing to be desired... great food!
The perfect location. A peaceful village.
Beautiful hotel, in a mountain village. Splendid food and fine, local wines. Breakfast and dinner overlooking the mountains, with a view of the distant sea.
brilliant staff
Great hotel in a fantastic location, but what makes it really special is the staff. They are really helpful and friendly and go out of their way to help you make the most of your stay. It's very good value for money, this is the second time i've stayed here, i hope to go back soon. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the pool area was great. There is a lovely balcony with great views, perfect for that early evening drink.
A good base for walking or looking at the view!
A pleasant rural hotel in Competa. The Weather was very stormy and misty on two days so it was important to have a lounge. The lounge was a bit uninviting with a lot of upright chairs placed around, as though there was going to be a seminar any minute! The bar and cafeteria were fine, the only problem being that we didn't know when the restaurant was open or closed, obviously depending on whether they had groups staying or not. It was fine eating in the bar, but we were not told when the restaurant was closed. The staff were lovely and the outside terrace and swimming pool were wonderful. A sports centre has been built below which, unfortunately, does impinge on the otherwise glorious view. Generally a good verdict, but more attention is needed to the interior of the hotel: bathrooms and lounge! G Gener
perfect holidays
amazing staff, amazing view, properly exploring Spain culture.
Pleasant stay.
Bathrooms getting dated now but still a good hotel. The view is marred by the council yard beneath but looking beyond is beautiful. Access to the hillside walks is fairly easy and you can walk for hours. Food on the meal plan is basic but good but restaurant is not open out of season very often. You end up therefore in the bar areas or terrace with a wooly jumper and eat as fast as you can whilst it stays warm. Pepe the owner is very friendly and will do is best to accommodate any special requests. Reasonable prices. Booking on Expedia I found I was the best deal there.
Located in the centre of Competa. Typical spanish village with narrow streets, bit of a nightmare in a car. The receptionist was very helpful in locating a secure car park. We chose to dine out in the village in the evening. The buffet style breakfast was ok, nothing special but plenty of variety. I would re-visit.
Very helpful staff, very clean hotel. Thank you all.
A great informal relaxed & family friendly Hotel
Excellent - does exactly what it says on the tin! Perfect central location so walkable right into the heart of the village plaza. Fantastic views from the terraces and restaurant. Great food. Nothing is too much trouble. Efficient, but in a relaxed holiday mode approach. Brilliant staff. Really friendly & very helpful. It's not the Ritz, but then at the prices charged, it's great value for money. Thoroughly recommended.
Would stay again
Very pleasant stay . Would stay again . Nice cross section of locals and holiday makers. Food good reasonable bar prices. Staff very attentive . Fantastic views from balcony. Very quiet area of town.
Great 5 day stay
We were visiting my grandson who is living nearby. We stayed 5 days with the full board option. It's a small hotel, about 30 bedrooms, and because of it you get a more personal service than in a large hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had the room that the King and Queen of Spain had stayed in some years ago. Despite the provenance, it was a fairly standard hotel room, but everything worked and was very clean, with a particularly good strong shower. The room had a small balcony containing two chairs and a table, and there was a really good view down the valley. There's a bar/cafe and restaurant (which was closed in winter). The full board menu (and the set menu) is restricted to three choices on each course, but they were all good and changed each day. We enjoyed eating there. On our last day, the chef prepared a paella especially for us and it was superb. Breakfast is standard continental, fresh rolls and ham/cheese. There are other options - we saw someone with a full English - but we were happy with the buffet. The village is very pretty and well cared for, and it all seems much more relaxed than the coastal resorts. We would like to return. There is a swimming pool (being cleaned out for the summer while we visited) and a nice shady garden.
Would definitely recommend.
The room was spacious, clean and comfortable and the views from our balcony window were fantastic. All the staff were really friendly and helpful - especially the waitress who served us for our evening meal and who was there again in the morning for breakfast. The evening meals were really good, with a reasonable choice of menu and excellent food. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.
A Gem
A fantastic stay in a small and beautiful genuine andulasian town. Lovely old buildings with cobbled streets. The hotel was top class. Amazing value, good food, cheap drinks, good service, lovely views, relaxing environment and very friendly atmosphere. We went at the end of January. The weather was sunny but cold at night but the rooms were well heated. We went full board - the food was simple but hearty and included a three course hot menu for both lunch and dinner (with cold options available too). The fish soup was particularly tasty. It was great to be able to sit out on the terrace for meals and enjoy the mountain views. The service was great too - very personal and staff really went that extra mile. Thoroughly recommend it - we'll be back!
A Good Choice of Hotel.
All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The hotel was quite in January and we were able to have a balcony room with the wonderful view across the valley towards the sea. Food was the best I had had in Spain, plenty of choice and cooked to a good standard. I would be happy to recommend this hotel.
Hotel is spacious, clean and very friendly. David at reception is just lovely and couldn't be more helpful. The hotel Taxi Service is excellent and Pepe is a very experienced, safe driver and well liked by all. It would be great to have tea and coffee making facilities in the room and an iron and ironing board would be helpful.
A lovely relaxing stay.
This is the second time I have stayed at the Balcon. I really recommend booking a balcony room, the view of the mountains and coast are stunning. The garden/pool area is pretty and relaxing, and the staff are helpful and informative. The atmosphere at the hotel is lovely and laid back, and visitors to the cafe are a mixture of guests and locals. It is only a very short walk to other cafes and bars in the village. I definitely recommend this hotel for a relaxing mountain break!
Great Hotel
All the staff were excellent from the cleaning ladies to the reception staff. Its the first time we actually got a kettle and two cups in our room when asking during booking process. This added attention to our personnel needs help make the stay more pleasurable. We had a double room on the rear with views down to the coast- there are some rooms facing the road but I would pay the extra like we did for a balcony room. The room was large with a double bed and single bed. The hotel was clean and very comfortable. The breakfast is a basic continental breakfast with the usual bread , ham cheese, meats, cereal etc. A cooked breakfast is available at an additional charge but this is never offered so I guess you need to ask. We did eat at the hotel once for the Saturday BB-Q and again one afternoon. Both meals were good. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family. As Competa is a small village in the mountains you will need a car to get there. If you do hire a car contact the hotel first for the best approach as the Sat Nav took us to the main square which only has a pedestrian route to the hotel. The swimming pool is nice and clean but is not for serious swimmers. You can still swim in the deep section for a short while. The hotel is also open to locals. We stayed in early July and it did not seem too busy.
Staying there is like being at home... Good weather... Excellent service and memorable food.. recommended 💯
Ihana loma Andalucian Competassa
Hotellissa oli erittäin ystävällinen palvelu ja mukava henkilökunta. Kaikki asiat sujuivat pienistä kieliongelmista huolimatta hyvin. Google-kääntäjä on hyvä apu.
Fint hotel i dejlige omgivelser
Gutes Frühstück, freundliches Personal , toller Blick vom Balkon
Gracias! Kleiner Kritikpunkt, Die Badezimmer könnten eine kleine Renovierung gebrauchen!
Hotel y Bungalows Balcón de Competa | Hotel in Còmpeta | Travala.com
Location and view was good. Room had a kettle and cups yet no coffee or tea, Had to complain and finally was offered some packs. Tennis court was always occupied by non residents and couldn't play. Breakfast; had to request table to be cleaned several times, out of foods f9r some time. Very disorganized plenty of staff
