Hotel asked me paid again of Namibia Dollar 940, although I Have paid to expedia already, so expedia must Refund me , Please ! !
Good option in downtown Windhoek
The hotel is a good option to stay in downtown Windhoek if you are interested in spending a day walking around. Windhoek is not a very exciting city, but you can find yourself things to do for 1 day at the beginning or the end of a trip through Namibia. The hotel is in a good condition overall.
Great central city location
Great location to explore the city. Near to main tourist sights and on main shopping street. Near to quaint old railway station and museum pieces. Cafes nearby. Service excellent. Room absolutely fine. Restaurant and bar
Not greatest location in town. Older property in downtown with few things nearby
Great staff
Great staff and hotel...would have been nice to know there was no lift but the excersise probably did me good
Hotel in need of refurbishment, lift not working and generally tired decor. However. nice friendly staff, helpful and obliging. Central location.
Perfect proximity to major Windhoek sights. A bit overpriced for the quality— extremely dated. Hotel staff is super friendly and accommodating!
Mbushe
The place is under revamp so it was Dusty, efforts are needed to keep the place clean even while under revamp.
Hotel is extremely mediocre. Bed okay but for example elevator out of service, no bottled water in rooms, no bath mat for tub, plastic toilet seat, etc.
This hotel is in a great location which is REALLY important in this city where pedestrians seem to be a target for motorists. You can get to all the major sights for Windhoek by foot without having to cross any busy streets. The hotel itself is getting super close to needing refurbishing, but the lines are all good, the shower is great, the staff are friendly. I would definitely stay there again.
A Happy Stay
It was a good stay. Centrally located. Convenient for shopping. The staff was very cooperative.
Good location and services. Room is small.
Not up to standard
Very old hotel, not really clean and too expensive for what you get.
Not up to standard
Unfortunate choice
We had a leaking toilet. After mentioning it, reception person inspected and said it was water from shower. It was not so, but dripping from toilet. Also had hands in our toiletries and perfume taken. We had no time to make an issue out of it. Fortunately not that expensive. Principle still stands. Dead flowers in reception. Bad area. Will it go there again.
Kak
The shitiest hotel. Everything about it is a lie.
Not recommended
Place is run down, needs renovation and is overpriced!
Great hotel in good location
Simple but comfortable room, good breakfast, an easy walk to Christuskirche and the shops on Independence.
Never go there.
Everything is bad about that place. The staff totally useless and inefficient. The location sketchy and no places to go to eat (just 3 horrible chicken fast food outlets). The hotel looks like a 1970s run down place. The rugs and the paint are horrible. I waited 30 minutes in the front desk requesting for a taxi information to the airport. They offered one price and the hiked the price in the last minute. The room was not nice and dark. Lights were poor. I summary, horrible. Worst experience in many years.
I was in Windhoek for a work visit. The staff were welcoming from the first day I arrived until I left. I was at the Protea Hotel for 5 days and not a single day did I experience problems with the hotel staff, room quality and service. Breakfast and dinner were excellent, my room was always clean when I came back. The hotel is centrally located meaning it was easy to get around town and get taxi. The day before I left I informed them of my early morning flight and they booked a cab for me which was ready at 4am in the morning.
A hotel with only basic amenities only
Was an OK experience
Convienent hotel
Not very impressed. Stayed there due to the brand recognition. The hotel has had some paint applied, but it is still old and in not very good condition. The bathroom is a tub with a shower curtain. The toilet leaked slowly, so we laid a towel on the floor. The tile is chipped and the general condition is that of an old second rate hotel that someone spent a couple of bucks on trying to make it look a little better.. Would not stay here again as there are much cheaper and nicer places to stay in Windhoek. the only plus is its location if you wanted to explore the town on foot. We didn't. I should have ran when the porter told me he didn't have any kind of dolly to get our bags up to the room. The staff though did provide friendly assistance in getting all our bags to the room. Overall very overpriced for what you get.
Very pleasant people and very enjoyable stay and good value for the price .
Hotel due for upgrade
Hotel needs a serious upgrade. Lift not working properly. Rate is way to much for that condition of hotel
Was quite pleasant to feel Namibia hospitality
Satisfied
Comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was a bit chaotic on odd occasions when large parties ate together and crowded the venue.
Next time in Windhoek I will certainly pick different hotel (preferably with a more helpful staff)
Very nice hotel
Great location for walking to the beach and great food.
Helpful
Overall felt worth 4 but as got mugged beyond botanical gardens staff were very helpful so up graded to 4. Be careful in Windhoek in quiet areas even in daylight
Stay over
We only stayed over because of the long lay over in Windhoek on our way back home. This hotel is a bit far from the airport and the shuttle service was quite expensive.
Average Hotel
The room was big and clean. Staff were kind and helpful.
Average Hotel
For the amount we paid, this hotel did not meet our expectations. We have traveled to over 30 countries and stayed in various levels of hotels and this one did not provide value for money. The staff were rude (with an exception of 2), they did not have our booking, the location was average, there was a band on one night which was really noisy and the food was terrible. The room service menu had very little choice, too.
Unexpected
The Hotel is next a night club that bangs its music till the early hours so sleep optional. The passage had buckets in it to catch the water that was falling out the ceiling. When the repairs were done the ceiling tiles had been removed or broken so all the pipes exposed. The carpets were dirty needed a wash not only vacuum. No designated smoking area you had to go outside the hotel or the very small parking area. The wifi that is promised is very very bad to stay connected to constantly drops so makes email a nightmare. Key card stopped working the second night had to get it reprogrammed. The staff are very friendly and helpful and do there best in any situation nothing is to much for them they were great. The hotel needs an upgrade.
Business Travelller
Very Pleasant Stay. We were there for business and the hotel was very nice.
Great place to stay in
I recommend anyone staying in windhoek to book this, for the high valued service and cheap price.
Stay at Protea Hotel Thuringerhof, Windhoek
I arrived at 9pm. The hotel had received no confirmation of my booking through hotels.com! The hotel internet/wifi was not working which was a huge problem as I needed to download an important business document. My room overlooked a busy street so that I had trouble sleeping!
Visa run
Only two nights to get my SA tourist visa updated for another 90 days gave me the opportunity to travel to Windhoek. The hotel has a great location, within one block of the bus station on the corner of Bahnhof St. and Independence Ave. Not much else to say.
Close to Downtown
Three nights, all needs met. Parking is limited and renovation in Restaurant was going on. Excellent breakfast, excellent internet access and speed. Obviously a slow time for the hotel.
Some good, some bad
My first disappointment with this hotel was that the wifi was down the whole four days I stayed there. Then I discovered that the latch on my window was broken, which meant it blew open and let in street noise. I couldn't get the room safe to work (following the printed directions) and the electric kettle was filled with dusty water. The TV channels all came in with considerable static. Upon leaving, I had to pay a hefty fee for a shuttle to the airport. On the other hand, the breakfast was fantastic, and the location is very handy for a tourist on foot.
No wireless connection could no access though out
Poor Customer Care front office staff and some restaurant staff
Very average hotel
It was ok but would only go back if there there was no other choice
Windhoek City Stay
Hotel was located in the city center close to what we needed. Rooms were recently renovated, clean and comfortable. Very nice. The internet was a little sporadic, but the staff helped out. The lift was very dated and reminded us of what we experienced in tourist hotels in Europe. The staff compensated by carrying our luggage up two flights of stairs for us. Only real drawback was the limited parking. Breakfast was good and again staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Nice friendly hotel in the centre of the city
Stayed at the hotel for six nights whilst working in the city. Got to know the staff very well. They're very friendly and provide a great service. The hotel may not have the infrastructure of a four star hotel but the service is definitely there. Rates are also in little high for the country but affordable. It would be nice if they provided more TV channels and upgraded some of the decor.
poor maintenance
Did not receive twin bed room as requested but a double bed, broken lift, noisy & faulty air conditioner, poor maintenance of bathroom, 2 lights not working, poor food in resaurant
for turists is ok
the rooms are ok for some nights, but not for a holiday. the communication skills of the personell is poor. too laud AC. good location - down town.
Conveniently situated near airport
Namibia was an experience we will remember with fond memories. Our first time in your lovely country. Thank you.
Don't stay at this hotel - not a clean place.
The hotel was dirty and the staff was not helpful.
Ok for a quick stop over
The elevator had broken down and we had to carry all our luggage up to the second floor without any assistance. We were leaving early so breakfast was missed. We would have like to have a something for the morning so we didn't have to leave on an empty stomach. i.e cereal. The room was spacious and good for a quick stop over, but I would not want to stay there longer.
Thuringer Hof Windhoek
It really need some maintenance big time.

I booked online on Expedia and paid. I arrived expecting to check in. Instead the staff insisted that the hotel had not received payment from the online platform and tried to get me to pay a second time. I refused and showed them the receipt from Expedia. I had to threaten to get the police involved before they relented. Their food and beverage prices are outrageous and the quality is not good. They try to rip you off at every turn. The rooms I got either didn’t have a working safe for my valuables, or had one that was unusable. Trust me, you don’t want to stay here. It is gross, the area is sketchy, they are dishonest, and it isn’t good value for the money. You would be better off staying somewhere else.
