It's location is in the heart of South Congress. Great vibe and Austin feel.
Nice hotel, but with flaws
Very nice hotel in the heart of old Austin. Located just south of the Colorado river and easy access to Ubers, scooter rentals. Next to great food and music venues. My two major issues with the hotel were, 1. the key to the room. The key is an old traditional metal type, the problem with that is the "lost key" fee was $150. It literally made the trip one notch higher with stress because you are so worried about losing the key while out on the town. It seems unnecessary to have that kind of stress over a room key. 2. Is the night security guard whom seems to be way to aggressive to guest. We were approached several times to not make noise, don[t hangout in the outdoor court yard to enjoy a cigar, we even when outside of the walls of the hotel and were promptly approached by the same security guard with an unnecessary aggressiveness. For the cost of the hotel, I should not be treated by the "staff" as if you are the street drunk. This brought another slight disappointment in the stay.
Great stay! Recommended.
Everything was great! Our band played across the street & it was super handy. The only thing was due to a festival the parking lot was closed & we had to park down the street at the austin hotel. That was not super handy. Other than that it was great.
Lovely boutique hotel right in downtown!
Great location to quickly get to food, drinks, shopping, etc.
Wedding Party
Fun place to hangout while staying in Austin. Walking distance to lots of food and entertainment. Right across the street from the iconic Continental Club. Sweet courtyards with a Saturday brunch with live music as well as bar service daily. Breakfast is also available for room service only. Stayed three nights for a wedding and was treated like royalty. On site parking is available for a small fee.
The hotel is beautiful and location is perfect.
Pure tranquility in the city! My wife & I love everything about this place and stay here every time we’re in Austin. Beautiful, relaxed environment with amazing staff.
Absolutely beautiful property! Great location for walkable shopping and restaurants. The robes are great too!
Disgusting @ Hotel San Jose
Hotels.com offered at $43 credit for food, the hotel left us a bowl of popcorn, out of the bag and on a random side table. Disgusting. The hotel also stored their dirty linen outside of our room ALL DAY AND NIGHT.
This hotel is located in a great area — walking distance from downtown, a lot of shops, restaurants, etc, so you won’t run out of things to do. The rooms were spotless, homey and spacious. There is also a pool and a bar w indoor/outdoor seating which was great. The staff were also absolutely accommodating and welcoming and just some of the nicest people. It’s a true reflection of the entire management of this hotel.
perfect spot!
Perfect Spot
Amazing oasis on south congress. Can’t wait to return.
Awesome trip to Austin
Beautiful hotel in the heart of Austin SoCo neighborhood. Very walkable to many great restaurants on South Congress, directly across from the Continental Club. Great patio and pool with wonderful cocktails. Visit Austin often and this was our best stay yet.
fun wknd getaway
Love this hotel and have stayed here multiple times! Location in Austin and hotel vibe is great, will be back !
An Austin staple. Incredible staff and space. Always a pleaser to see you all! - Andrew
Loved my stay! Felt quaint and cozy while being in the middle of a fun shopping and eating district.
A little oasis off the South Congress Road. An area with lots to see and do. The hotel is unlike any other. In a good way. Beautifully designed rooms scattered around leafy gravel paths and secluded pool. Hip and cool, relaxing and quietly upmarket. Def coming back.
Great Hotel - Great Location
The hotel was very nice, clean and great location. Great shopping and restaurants walkable from hotel. The staff was amazing.
We love this place , the staff and the location Small but very nice
This hotel is a classic and i love it! It was so fun to stay here after a few years and revisit the pleasant and relaxing accommodations.
We will definitely be back to stay again!
Forever home
I enjoy the comfort of this hotel atmosphere the vibe and the staff I always come back here. It makes me feel at home and not feel safe and comfortable.
Funky
Thank you Hotel San Jose for making our trip and stay memorable. Beautiful sorroundings, close to really cool shops and awesome restaurants. From the moment we checked in they treated us liike Family! Really good vibes. The staff were all really friendly and took the Time to recommend good spots to eat and explore. Would definitely be back! Love ya'll
We came to Austin for a quick girls weekend and really enjoyed our stay at Hotel San Jose. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The vibe overall was great. We loved the design and decor of the property and our room. The beds were comfy, we liked the linens, and the robes were so cute. We also appreciated the ceiling fan in our room. We enjoyed the location and close proximity to a lot of restaurants and shopping, and it was fairly walkable (we’re all city girls and are up for a decent walk to get places) to different attractions. The street in front of the hotel is pretty busy, but our room was at the back of the property and very quiet. It was pretty hot and humid during our stay, so the pool was a perfect way to cool off in the afternoons. It was also just a great area to lounge outside of your room. The courtyard bar area seemed to be a hangout for both guests and folks not staying at the hotel, so it was lively (in a good way). They also had breakfast tacos on Saturday morning that were delicious. There is a coffee shop nextdoor that is affiliated with the hotel, so that was great for a quick drink/bite in the morning.
A wonderful little gem
Excellent vibe … relaxing
Disappointed
At the recommendation of a local friend, I booked Hotel San Jose. It was priced on the high end but I liked the eclectic vibe and interesting rooms. We had concrete floors, a covered patio area we shared with a couple other rooms and it felt very boho chic and residential. The neighborhood was great and walkable. The furnishings were minimalist but functional. They didn't have an in-room coffee maker which made my friend nuts, nor did they have a mirror outside the bathroom. The two big issues for us were as follows: My friend ordered a house bourbon double from a waiter, after being told they didn't have Jim Bean and asking for the house, she was charged $40 dollars which she didn't notice until later, the receipt said the name of a high-end bourbon so it wasn't rectified. The next day when she told the story to the waitress she got some relief and the The big thing though was the air conditioning. We were in Texas in May. The AC setting didn't go below 72 which for an environmentally conscious place is fine, but the reality was that the air coming out at night was NOT cold at all. In the morning it became cold which led me to believe there was a mistaken or intentional setting internally since at no time did the thermostat show anything but 72 degrees. To be fair, I talked to the manager at checkout and she was going to see if anything could be done and I will see what happens.
This is a revamped motel, and not revamped very well. It’s worth about 1/4th to 1/10th of what I paid for it. The pictures on the website are deceptive. The room I stayed in was not any better than what I could find at a Motel 6. Don’t stay here.
Great location, beautiful, calming vibe
The room was very basic for the price and most of the TV channel would not work. Also when I booked the room it was described as a superior room with multiple views, we had one window that was covered in vines that couldn't be seen through. The area was nice and there was plenty of things within walking distance. Parking at the hotel is not included and is an additional charge per night i believe.
Great location. Fun vibe. Really attentive staff. Checks all of the boxes for a weekend in Austin.
Girls birthday trip with 6 ladies
The staff was wonderful & handled all our luggage. We loved the patio by the pool & the music one night. Cocktails were yummy
I loved the Japanese gardens with a twist, right in the middle of everything!
Amazing location, beautiful property, we had the best time!
Thought it was great except you could hear neighboring rooms through the walls.
Loved the bar and outdoor seating area in the courtyard. The staff were awesome and the Frose was to die for!
An oasis on South Congress!
I absolutely LOVE staying here! The service is great, the location is perfect and the overall VIBE is wonderful!
so nicely located to nightlife and restaurants!
My home - away from home 🙃❤️
Love it here! The vibe is super chill, staff is amazing, and the beds are very comfortable! We wikk definitely be back!
Wonderful experience.
Great location.
Our entire stay was lovely. The staff was helpful, the room was nice and comfortable, the property and surroundings were very pretty. We were greeted with goodie bags to help us through the weekend.
Perfect romantic get away
The quirky details are over the top in the best way. Simple, clean, beautiful, highest quality everything. We loved our stay!
Location is perfect and while you would expect the area to be noisy, it isn’t at all. Quite and secluded with a great afternoon pool vibe.
Love everything about this place, keep it up and don’t change
Amazing!
Hotel San Jose is always amazing. Great service, room and can’t forget the Frose!
coming back...
easy, pretty, quiet
A beautiful property and a great location. They upgraded our room for us and we love it there!
Fun place and we have stayed there years ago. Our room was very noisy though. We were near the street. Our daughter was facing the pool and they did not have any noise problems.
Toilet not working. Had to use their public restroom u til it was fixed. No accommodations made to move us to another room.
We loved this hotel! A very unique vibe and fun place to stay! The location was fantastic. The only downside is that our bathroom wasn't cleaned very well. Everything else was wonderful.
Location, location location Close close to sixth Street bars close to shopping on Congress Avenue
If you love paying a lot for an “Austin vibe” this is the hotel for you. You have to walk on a muddy path to your room and track mud into your room? There are no amenities, barely any light in the rooms, bathroom is not conducive for getting ready. Yes you are in walking distance to all South Congress has to offer but that’s about it. Save $200 and Uber over from a nicer hotel.
Location, location, location!
Enjoyed our first stay with you 😊
Location is perfect and are the grounds. Great outdoor area for a drink and chat as well!
Quirky, funky, centralized. I've always been and remain a fan! Appreciate the touches and style, grateful for the pool and bar and above all else, the friendly staff.
A reminder of what S. Con. lovingly used to be…
I love this hotel and have stayed here multiples times. It’a casual, cool, understated hotel. It’s an anchor to S. Congress in that it’s been around for quite some time and remains consistent. The only critique I have is that it could use a little refresh. We enjoyed the pool albeit the interior of it needs some rework as it has many large chips in the finish.
Anniversary Stay
The Hotel San Jose went above and beyond in making our anniversary stay very special. We were provided with a secluded room featuring a broad veranda and comfortable patio furniture that allowed us to enjoy the outdoors late into the evening. I also ordered rose pedals from a local florist and, at my request, the hotel staff spread them artfully across the floor of our suite. We also enjoyed our time at the pool and outside bar and seating areas. Overall, we could not have enjoyed a nicer stay!
Cool place in a great location!
The property is amazing. So relaxing and chill, we had such a great time. My ONLY issue is that the cleaning staff tried coming in our room three times before we were checked out for some reason. Other than that, fantastic.
Hotel San Jose Did Not Meet Expectations
Hotel is way overpriced and was disappointed, was expecting more for as much as I ended up paying. The total came out to be $100.00 more than the quote that was given on Hotels.com. I have asked for my invoice to be emailed twice so I can see all of the charges and still waiting. The free morning coffee, landscaping and pool are nice and would lead you to believe that the interior of the room is just as nice but that is not the case. Room had a very funny smell, not very comfortable and the parking is tight. Hotel did not meet my expectations and do not plan to stay again.
The staff was super sweet and held our MANY bags for us while we waited to check in. Unfortunately, the room had dozens of caterpillars that seemed to be everywhere. I even found some in my suitcase after unpacking. They were in the bathroom, by the bed, everywhere. The paint seemed to be pilling in areas, there only seemed to be one outlet and there was a strange smell in the lobby. I love the location but the stay was nowhere near what I expected after having stayed there previously. For what the cost of the hotel was, we honestly preferred our Airbnb (which was more than half the cost).
ATX gem
We love this property so much. The service is amazing and it’s such an Austin gem. It’s so dog friendly which is a huge plus. The only thing I will say is the ac in our room was either very cold or it was very warm, which had never been an issue in other rooms before. Still, we love it and will be back.
Not what I expected but we loved it—felt like we were in Costa Rica, with exotic birds and foliage!
Worst night's sleep I have ever experienced. My room was at the front of the property and I literally felt like I was sleeping on the sidewalk on S. Congress. Paper thin walls. Finally, when I was able to fall asleep, the staff starts moving around slamming doors, bumping into wall outside the room with no attempt at being quiet or respectful. Terrible.
Fantastic hotel.
Great location,
San Jose is on the busiest part of S. Congress. All night it's extremely noisy. At 5:45 am someone was using a leaf blower. It was so bad I finally just left.
Extremely overpriced; not worth the money
My husband and I recently stayed one night at the Hotel San Jose on South Congress Avenue in Austin, a "hipster" neighborhood known for cool vibe retail, restaurants, and boutique hotels. While the operational aspects of the hotel were fine (courteous reception, cleanliness and average comfort in the room), this hotel in no way merits the extremely high prices for their rooms. I chose the least expensive option on Hotels.com and paid $429.25 ($502.23 including taxes) for the one night in what I consider to be a completely ordinary room (which did include a sofa) with run-of-the-mill amenities. For the level of the price, this hotel ought to include complimentary drinks upon check-in or a bottle of wine in the room, spa-quality towels (instead of the somewhat ordinary ones that they provide), some form of decoration on the walls (instead of the vast blank spaces that are present except for a couple of concert advertising posters), and better, modern lighting throughout the room. This is obviously an older building that has been smartly remodeled, but the designers failed to take into account such basics as the position of the toilet, which was mere inches from the side wall of the bathroom. The San Jose does provide free parking--a rarity these days--but upon arrival in the parking lot I discovered that approximately a third of it was blocked off for use as a venue for a concert to take place the same evening. All in all, I felt "taken" for having spent so much money.
Stay here and enjoy Austin
This was our second stay at the Hotel San Jose. It’s a great place.
