Great location for hotel.
This is a 2 1/2 star property at best. It looks like a transformed Best Western or something equal in value. The rooms had old fixtures, 1970s beige desk phones, trim that didn’t match up, old sprinkler systems that didn’t fit into the ceiling etc. We were given one room that had a small door hanging from its hinges behind an outdated sofa. When I asked to move rooms, I was told all upper floor rooms had the same configuration. We were given a first floor room that at least had 2 large windows. The tv would not change stations and the toilet did not work properly. When I told the front desk, I was told you can only change rooms once. Will NEVER stay here again!!
Excellent service
Very clean and accessible for staying at wharf area
Great sized room, beds comfortable. Great location close to restaurants and shops in Fisherman’s Wharf area.
served its purpose
wanted a room by the airport as we were coming in from Asia so a long flight and flight onto Canada the next day. Customer service was top notch. No restaurants in the area, nothing within walking distance. the room is dated and smelled musty, furnishings older as well. Bed was very comfortable. I would not book again because of the room smell. Also, might want to clean the windows as a lot of dirt build up.
Hotel was in an excellent location, walkable to many sites, restaurants and activities. The staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel was clean and offered great parking. We very much enjoyed our stay and would return without hesitation.
vERY NICE
I did appreciate how expensive the parking was
It was strange that the room didn’t have conditioner, but did have shampoo and body wash. The daily parking is astronomical ($60USD). With VIP perks, parking should be included. The breakfast was really good.
Noise level from above room pretty bad. Front desk did not do anything
Great location near Fisherman's Wharf.
Breakfast was amazing.
this is a beautiful hotel, very convenient to fisherman‘s wharf. The breakfast buffet was outstanding. The entire staff was super friendly. We would totally stay here again.
the incredible breakfast buffet!!! The staff was amazing, location perfect! our room was clean and very comfy. the maid service was fantastic. thank you!
The location is fantastic. The property is loud but that's expected with the location.
This hotel was very good. The breakfast was the best I've ever experienced. While I had already paid through Expedia, once I booked, I received an email telling me that if I was bringing a car it was going to cost a lot to park. I also received an email sometime later that said I would be paying for a resort fee or amenities fee once I arrived. When I got there, I was charged over $400 in addition to having already paid for the room. I was told that $250 would be returned, and this was a damage deposit. The resort fee was in my opinion just another way of getting more money because there was only an outdoor pool, and it wasn't really warm enough to use it. And there was an exercise room which we didn't have time to use. But other than excessive charges, this hotel is excellent.
Room reserved not given and there are extra fees charged not specified in the booking. Terrible customer service
The breakfast is amazing! Clean and comfortable.
Breakfast included 5:30-10am. Has a nice spread. Fresh fruit, nice selection on a lot of items!
did not give free water
Very nice
Loved this hotel. My only complaint was the additional $400 I was charged above and beyond when we checked in. This covered parking and other hotel costs, but seems excessive.
Breakfast was plentiful but never hot only just warm food should be hot to prevent bacteria growth at least 140 degrees
Excellent property. Close to restaurants, hop on hop off bus, a nice walk to cable car museum, cable cars, waterfront etc. Fantastic breakfast. More food than you could imagine. We returned one more night just for the breakfast!
Great property, clean and staff is wonderful.
The hotel was very walkable to the peer which was great. The parking was a lot more than expected.
We stayed one night and the location was fantastic. It was close to everything we wanted to accomplish. I love how clean it was and how clean it smelled throughout. We didn’t find it as noisy as others reported. There was a constant buzzing from the air units outside our room, but ear plugs did the trick. If I had to knit pick it would be that they advertise a heated pool and it wasn’t very warm. Also, I asked if the fire place by the pool could be turned on, but nobody ever came. Overall, we loved our stay and will return. We hope that maybe some spicy peppers or salsa can be added to the buffet! Tabasco is not spicy enough. :)
The Best Hotel - Where Luxury Meets Comfort
The hotel was amazing, the place was very clean, it always smelled nice, the service was wonderful, and the breakfast food was always delicious! We especially loved how the hotel was close to many tourist attractions while also having many appetizing restaurants close by. Overall we loved our stay here at RIU hotel and we wish to come back soon!
Perfect for a weekend relax and perfect day to enjoy with family
Awesome and would stay again!
Friendly staff, easy access to everything and transportation
Very noisy in room AC Difficult to sleep
This property greatest asset is being very close to Fisherman's wharf which equates to them not trying to hard. First, the rooms are extremely noisy, especially in the other building. Do not let them put you there, they are paper thin. Secondly, within the bathrooms there are just squeeze bottles on the wall for soap by the sink, no hand lotion or bar soap. Very Motel 6. The rooms are dated, but decent size. The doormen are extremely rude screaming at people to move their vehicles in the unloading process, because you load in an alley between the 2 buildings. I understand the issue, but be kind and mark clearly where you want the vehicles. The breakfast is a complete ==== show, same stuff everyday and you are warned if you come between 8-9 for the breakfast that is included in your room it may take a great deal of time to get a table, so they have a roped line in the hallway. Again, fiqure it out, expand the space. But really this is all about the money and ripping tourists off. Try somewhere else.
Very nice hotel excelent staff and service
Its closer to everything. Easy access with kids.
It was excellent. The breakfast was delicious and the room spacious and very nice. It feels very safe. My only very slight complaint is the reviews stating it was noisy at night is true. It’s more that you can just hear people in the hallway as the doors are thin.
Close to Pier 39 and all that San Francisco has to offer at the waterfront there! Convenient and up-to-date place to stay.
Great property within walking distance to the pier. Wonderful breakfast!
Ok stay
Very nice hotel, perfect location, everything was in walking distance
The breakfast was great with a variety of food options. Great location. The staff are friendly.
The only bad thing was parking- their parking garage had low clearance- suvs or normal size pickup trucks don’t fit & had to park in public garage across the street. And there was a puddle of urine next to my drivers side door the next morning.
Clean. Good service!
Great location! Very clean! Friendly staff!
I really like the hotel. It was close to everything and the staff was friendly.
Front desk staff incredible
Nice place to stay. Staff is courteous and very willing to help
Room was very clean, was able to walk to most attractions, the free breakfast was great.
I liked the location. I didn’t like the service. The lady at the front desk (Karla or Eika, if I am not mistaken) was rude and impolite when I requested, twice over the phone, for more blankets because we were freezing in the room. Additionally, the lady in the coffee shop (an older Asian woman) was also very rude.
Location was convenient and Buffett breakfast was great with so many options!
The location was great with a 5 minute walk to pier 33.
Quiet and clean
The breakfast was
Great location, parking quite expensive but so is everywhere. Great stay.
Nice hotel and easy to get to. Outdoor fire tables are great
Everything surpassed our expectations. Staff were cordial and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. Location 2 blocks from Pier 39 but set back off the busiest street was ideal. Included buffet breakfast was visually pleasing, huge variety of items, attention to detail (hot milk for oatmeal). Especially noteworthy were the attentive staff that seated us, cleared used plates and items, and kept everything hot and freshly stocked and wiped clean of crumbs and spills as they happened around the buffet areas. As a bonus, the pool was quiet, clean, shielded from wind and bathed in sun. The entire experience was perfect.
March 2025 review. Like most other reviews state, this is a noisy hotel. I'm not sure what decade it was issued a 4 star hotel rating, but you'd be better expecting a Super 8 next to a busy road. The issue is the air conditioning units are of the motel 6 type that go through the wall, and the windows being latch type single pane, which then let all the road noise in. My top tip would be having the air conditioner on all night as white noise to block out the chaos outside. Also, we knew about the resort fee, but we were also charged a $234 deposit per room, which for a hotel of this standard is rediculous. We're staying on the first floor in a King Deluxe room, which is extremely noisy. I'm typing this at 3:47am after a road sweeper just spent 2 minutes going past 8 feet from my bed. We asked for a another room immediately after check in when a truck playing loud music parked next to our bed, but all the king deluxe rooms are next to the busy road, and you have to downgrade with no reduction in price to get a quieter room(!!???). I'd never consider staying here again. 5:06am edit: currently listening to a truck driver's radio that has just parked up next to my window.
Very convenient to Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39, restaurants, and Big Bus Hop on, Hop off. Riu complimentary breakfast was outstanding!!! Best we have ever experienced in our travels!
Quiet and peaceful
"It's so wonderful that the hotel has breakfast! And not just breakfast, but the best breakfast!
Convenient walking distance to Pier 39. Buffet breakfast with good variety was included. The only negative was the very limited meal options in the onsite cafe.
Enjoyable
Excellent breakfast. Good location. Walking distance to many restaurants. Clean room. Comfy bed. Bathroom is small,
Horrible parking options
Location and hotel in general is nice however the beds are super hard and the parking for $60 didn’t fit my ford bronco so I was advised to park across the street at zephyr hotel for $65. Really unfortunate that I need to pay more just because you don’t accommodate decent parking sizes.
It is still a nice hotel but it is in need for dome updates. New matresses would definitely be a plus
Clean, great service,
This place was better than expected, safe place to enjoy everything in SF, the breakfast buffet was 5 Stars! I’d love to come back!
The spectacular welcome with the attention of Mrs. Edith, clean and comfortable rooms, a cozy atmosphere
Great value and convenient location. The breakfast was great and a great way to start the day!!! Comfy beds and clean rooms. Loved the fire pits.
In addition to a comfortable, the facilities were tops. The gym, breakfast, shop and bar were all great. Service was friendly and fast. Check in and check out were both easy.
Great location close to fisherman's wharf and a short walk to the cable cars; trams also stopped 100m away from the hotel, staff were friendly and helpful. Room was clean and spacious but had a bulky AC/heater close by the bed, soundproofing is not good as you frequently hear noise from nearby rooms and outside; light sleepers may struggle. Breakfast was on until 1130 and plentiful, however hot food was occasionally colder than you would expect. Bar area was good, had a heated outside area and was reasonably priced. Local draft beers were available however actual availability seemed to be a struggle for the hotel as choice diminished over our 5 night stay. Parking under the hotel is plentiful but very expensive, even taking into consideration the high costs in the local area, I chose to park across from the hotel for half the cost and didn't experience any issues. Overall would use again primarily due to location but would seek a room that offers less noise intrusion.
First time staying her and absolutely loved it !! Parking is safe, walking distance to Fisherman’s Ward and Pier 39.
Great hotel, great location,
Walkable
Breakfast was terrible. Rooms are very noisy and you can hear every word from neighbours. We were given an accessible room which was very standard with no amenities. The only good comment I will leave is the location is very close to Pier 39.
Great location, good food and excellent service
Just stayed here for a couple of days for vacation. Nice beds and clean room. Everyday cleaning, so it’s kept neat by the time we get back from site seeing. Breakfast is regular American breakfast buffet. Pretty good spread. Quality of service was great. Had grab and go as well. Location was great, very close to pier 39. We used Uber most of the time.
I love the morning breakfast and easy access to anywhere
Good property near pier 39
Great location and wonderful breakfast.
Great walking distance to piers.
The Riu Plaza offers a quick.check in, nice and clean room, good included breakfast and a small, but well equipped gym.
The breakfast was incredible. Parking was expensive. Room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. Convenient to Fisherman's Wharf area (Alcatraz) which is why we were visiting.
Walkable to everywhere.
The staff were outstanding - I've travelled a lot and I can confidently say that the customer service we received at the Riu San Francisco is top notch! Everyone was friendly and welcoming. We were also impressed by the complimentary breakfast - it is comparable to an all-inclusive buffet in Mexico. Well done! We will be back!
The property location was perfect, the property was always clean. Breakfast was good too. The only reasons I did not give a 5 star because I stayed in different hotels around the US and for the price of Riu hotel and the name as well I expected to be great. Rooms was very small. The toilet area was tight plus if someone use the toilet everyone could smell it from the other room. With that price they don’t afford conditioner or lotion to the guests, thats why I gave a 4
Great hotel. Convenient location. Good breakfast.
Great hotel in a great location for any tourists looking to enjoy San Francisco! Hotel is located within walking distance of Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 33 (Alcatraz Landing), lots of restaurants, gift shops, Ghiradelli Sqaure etc. Hotel rooms were clean (minor hair in shower when we first checked in), beds and pillows were SO comfortable. Safe and fridge in the room, bathroom a little small (toilet and shower in one room, sink outside that room) but pretty minor. Parking was a bit pricey ($60 USD per night) and there are resort fees(which the hotel advised us prior to arriving) but other than that, I think it was reasonable priced (we are coming from Canada so we knew it would be a bit higher with the conversion). They do offer an excellent breakfast buffet with options for everyone, and they have nice fire pits out front for those cooler nights. We would definitely stay again!
The hotel was in the most perfect location. Walkable to everywhere and just a couple blocks down as you walk to you could then get on the cable cars. Alot of shopping and food choices.
Thsg need more countsr space in the bathdoom
Our stay was fantastic. Loved everything about the hotel. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
Upon arrival of the property it was OK. I found the underground parking. When checking in the lines to check in were not defined and some people just created one themselves until an employee came and addressed the issue. Getting into the room the bed cover had a black stain on it. Overall it was a nice stay. The firepits outside were a nice touch for socializing. The hotel was close enough to all the restaurants nearby all about 10minutes or less walking distance. Homeless people are everywhere so just be careful about them. We had one follow us and talking to us up to the middle of the street before the hotel and they retreated back to their place (in front of 7-eleven)
This was a great spot and could easily walk to Fishermen’s Wharf and Ghirardelli square. Staff was also very nice and the breakfast that’s included was very convenient when you’re traveling with little ones. I would definitely stay here again.
There was a slight problem at check in as they had not received information from the booking site we used. I had a hard copy confirmation and they were able to get us a room. The included breakfast was wonderful as was the close location to Fisherman’s wharf.
Very glad we booked here and not some of the others in the area.
Great hotel, breakfast is brilliant.
Great location, friendly staff, comfy beds. Excellent breakfast buffet. Outdoor pool is heated (we stayed in February, kids went in it every day). Nice gym. Bar and Grab’n’go for drinks and food.
Loved the breakfast
Great location, nice, clean and accessible.
Great wharf hotel with full breakfast
Great place to stay right at the wharf. Wonderful breakfast buffet included and the rooms overall were nice. The only slight for the whole experience was that the bathroom section with the tub and toilet was very cramped.
Becareful with additional charges when you are checking in.
