Hotel Majapahit Surabaya - MGallery
Amazing hotel great staff helpful friendly and made you feel very special
This hotel is my go to hotel whenever I go to Surabaya. Very historic place, close by shopping mall and restaurants.
Beautiful hotel in the heart of the city
It's a really beautiful property in the heart of town. Staff were friendly and helpful, although their English was limited. Breakfast included a nice mix of Indonesian and Western fare. One bonus was the car-free morning on Sundays, which allowed us to walk along JalanTunjungan, which is usually very busy.
This is a repeat visit and I was warmly welcomed back. My room had a surprise waiting for me, fresh flowers and a snack as well as a thank you from management. Whatever my reason for traveling to Surabaya, I wouldn't stay at any other hotel. The architecture and surroundings are unique and beautiful but the true beauty of this hotel is the staff who are friendly and well-trained to attend to details. This is a charming gem of a place. I happily look forward to future visits.
Unique historical building makes the experience extra special.
Our shower was not draining and causing a flood in bathroom. It took 2 days for hotel to fix problem. The hotel in general requires maintenance.
This must be one of my favourite hotels ever. Perfect in every way!
The property has an interesting history and the layout is beautiful. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast good. The room had a bit of a moldy smell but was comfortable. Traffic in the area is crazy.
Been to MGallery collection hotel before so the bar has been set quite high. I like Majapahit but it lacks refinement. The lobby smells like cigar or moldy carpet. The only thing i like was my room- huge and with character
Amazing stay
We spent 4 nights at the Majapahit hotel and it was such a fantastic place to stay we found it hard to leave the hotel and explore Surabaya! The room was great (very spacious and well maintained given they are in a historical building). The grounds are stunning. The lobby has a fantastic cocktail bar and the high tea was excellent.
Love this hotel ... highly recommend it!!!
Wonderful heritage premises. The property is grand and meticulously attended. The staff are wonderful also.
The hotel is a tourist attraction in itself. It is set in beautiful grounds with great facilities. Used the restaurant many times with great service and great food. Would stay there again without hesitation.
A really nice, colonial style, property. Staff were lovely. For a small hotel, there were several dining options. Food and cocktails were good. It very convenient for Borobodour, yet quiet and peaceful with nice grounds.
Enjoyed our stay, great service, staff alert to your needs.
Beautiful luxurious historic hotel. Excellent breakfast buffet
a historical landmark in indonesian history. built in 1910 truly a beautiful hotel.
Love the old colonial style
Beautiful property with its history. Rooms requires an uplift look.
great stay
Excellent Staff and environment a quite oasis in the middle of the city. The hotel has important historical context to Indonesia. Food in restaurant was great and fulfilling. Bed extremely comfortable and bath was a nice bonus
Friendly and attentive staff
Visiting family in Surabaya
Excellent stay - beautiful 114 year old Hotel nestled among high rises For age or has been very well maintained Very nice change of pace from sterile chain hotels Nuce breakfast
The hotel is very close to a upscale shopping mall in Surabaya. You can all kinds of luxury goods and food in the mall. It also has awesome colonial architecture and lighting at night. I had problem with the mosquitoes which are everywhere and in the room, so bring some repellent if you attract mosquitoes.
I love the sense of authenticity of the building, the gardens are beautiful and well maintained.
It was a lovely, luxurious stay for us. A piece of history in the heart of Surabaya. Thanks for having us.
Gréât place to stay
A famously historical hotel with great facilities. The staff is terrific:friendly, informative, professional and happy. The hotel is as neat as a pin and grandiose. The gardens and pool are well kept. Indigo restaurant which is attached offers lovely food and make a mean cup of coffee. Close to other historical buildings.
nice hotel but need better maintenance
Nice hotel with beautiful compound but rooms need better upkeep and maintenance. Amenities are not keeping up with the image of a 5 star hotel
A stunning room onto pool. Room more the size of a house then hotel room. Old world, gardens etc as good as old gets. In thousand or so hotel stays this could be the best.
They charged me a refundable deposit and never refunded it. I have already contacted them multiple times regarding it but they simply just ignored it.
Historical well-maintained hotel
It was a pleasant experience staying in a historic but well-maintained hotel. With full service from super friendly staff, it was an enjoyable stay. Everyone visits Surabaya, must stay in this hotel to appreciate Surabaya as a Historic City.
The hotel had a lot of character in architecture, furniture and history but was exceptionally well presented. The recent refresh has resulted in a very well presented environment. The staff were friendly, professional and attentive. Highly recommended.
A historic hotel
It was a great experience overall.
Awesome crew
Awesome stay with friendly cheerful staff. Keep it up guys
WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE
Great hotel to stay in Surabaya. The service is impeccable. Staff are very helpful and polite. This hotel certainly deserves its 5-star rating. Location is central and convenient.
Magnificent old style hote
Magnificent old style hotel with all the contemporary facilities! We had a wonderful tranquil stay there.
Beautiful hotel. Too little good working electrical facilities in the room though. I found living insects in my mattrass after a stitchy night. After reporting this to the staff I received in upgrade en got free cleaning of all my clothes and luggage. Bedbugs?!
Spacious room. Clean, except for some stains on the upholstery. Mosquitoes are a problem here, so much so that in the evening a guy came knocking with a can of repellent to spray the room...
History and outstanding friendliness with great location
travel back in time...Sarkies brothers legacy in the many South East Asia countries..
Property by M C Escher - quite amazing....beautiful gardens, courtyards, wonderful historic building
Elegance/luxury.
v nice property with lot of style and history...big rooms... close to a busy mall...v good food in the restaurant.
The place was clean and staffs were helpful
We booked 3 nights stay in Majapahit hotel. People say it is a 5 stars hotel but I would give it 2 stars due to the following reasons : 1) Found dead tiny lizard (about 2-inch long) on bathroom floor and we called house keeping to remove it. 2) First time faucet water was running dirty for few seconds (brownish color). 3) Need to replace TV in the bedroom. The tv is old and had bad quality of picture in all channels.
There history, heritage and atmosphere. Also, the Art Deco and Art Nouveau stylings everywhere.
Very nice historical building and the company keep it very well. And the location is good, right next to mall and a local market. But when u inside this big building, you feel really peaceful and relax. All staff are nice and the breakfast also good.
Beautiful history building with nice garden, remind me when childhood living with my nan in probolinggo feels like a home. The staff very friendly and helpful. And I want to say special thanks for the girls who works for Marta Tilaar spa, help me to make unforgettable moment for my beautiful sister.
Normally i would stay at the Marriott when in Surabaya, but this last trip i decided to try out the Majapahit. My wife and i loved the hotel, the staff, the food, and the overall feel of the hotel had to offer. Never had a bad meal, and the management were friendly. Housekeeping took care of any problems we may have had. And when we checked out, the hotel provided us with a simple breakfast which hit the spot, the J.W. Marriott never did that for the times i stayed there. I will continue going back to the Majapahit when i stay in Surabaya, and i would highly recommend the Majapahit, and its walking distance to the mall.
This place looks beautiful inside and out. It keeps with it's historical roots which i love. I will definitely stay here again the next time i am back.
It was a unique hotel with a colonial ambience. A hotel that you should book again.
Charming stay
Wonderful historical place. Customer service at check in could be improved, same for cleaning of the property. Room and entire hotel was charming, you happily overlook small issues. Great breakfast choice. Would have loved to do the hotel tour, but was not possible
A historical hotel that reflects its own age
Stayed for two night at the heritage suite. Staff was friendly and helpful, location was great - just walking distance from major mall. The hotel itself is very beautiful and clearly shows its former glory. However at the same time the condition also stated its age, despite better than most local 4 star hotel and we also noted its price being quite low for a 5 star property, it is still quite unacceptable to see stains over bathtube, shower head and especially our beddings. It is also quite disappointed that they didn't change the bedding after room cleaning the second day as the stain was quite notable. Of course we are sure the staff would've helped us if we made the request given their helpfulness, we just hoped that we won't needed to at the first place. Just not quite an expected 5 star experience, especially after we enjoyed some other hotel which gave us much better with similar price point in indonesia. My advise is to stay for one night if you really want a stay in this piece of history - which frankly is quite memorable, however if you stat longer you may consider moving to other nearby 5 star property after the first night, quite sure you'll feel more comfortable.
I just have one thing to say. The hotel is grand but a lot of maintenance work is needed. However, I'm very thankful to the staff for having made my stay so memorable. They're able to think on the spot and would always make sure that anything is lacking, that it would be fixed.
Beautiful well kept gardens and pool area. However, Property needs a refurb.
Great, colonial-rich hotel in the centre of Surabaya. Almost feels like stepping back in time. Staff were helpful, room was large. No complaints.
The staff are very, very friendly , helpful and smile generously. They speak with beautiful manners with soft voices. The beautiful garden, and bedroom so comfortable and clean. Love it. The shopping so nearby and food at the hotel is amazing.
the real heritage
lovy! just the way i expected it to be. a real classical room. the heritage interior. and most of all there is a balcony to smoke my cigarettes. the food is unbelieveable. what a place. i love it
Beautiful and historical hotel
Hotel Majapahit Surabaya is a beautiful and historical hotel in Surabaya, Indonesia. The staff is very friendly and helpful. A staff sat me down in the lobby and gave me their special snacks and drink and telling me the history of the hotel during check in. They also gave me an upgrade to a very nice and large suite. The hotel buildings and gardens are very beautiful including a nice and big swimming pool. The breakfast buffet is excellent with both eastern and western food. They also have a special menu including in the breakfast that you can order and try some special Indonesian breakfast dishes.
colonial hotel that's what we like . very rare in this world
Glad they keep the hotel running in its old colonial decor as it reflects the history and character of the place. Nice ambience with big trees and garden. Food was great especially where the buffet breakfast is served, quite a number of options. A towel in our room was not so clean when we got in so asked for a change. In-room carpet is somewhat old but was told of renovation plan as Accor just started to step in to manage this property. Staff are very helpful and polite.
Want ot feel like royalty stay at this hotel
Beautiful hotel, that makes you feel like princess.
Very Nice Hotel
Nice hotel Near convenience store Good for honeymoon trip : )
This is a great classic and colonial style designed by Sarkies family. Sarkies family also built the famous hotel including Raffles in Singapore, Eastern & Orientals in Malaysia. Wonderful experience! Will be no hesitation to stay again!
Stunning Hotel for an amazing city stay.
This hotel was stunning with it's beautiful historical building, charming furnishings and seating areas and manicured lawns. It is amazing to think that this peaceful place is surrounded by a city. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The Spa is lovely offering some affordable and luxurious treatments. I wish we had more time to spend that this gorgeous place and should I find myself back in Surabaya I know where I will be staying!
It was Ramadan, and as an international hotel, why they would not serve beer or spirits to the room is beyond me. I know of other hotels that do this as not to offend the religion. But, to claim the government does not allow it and I can go to international restaurants and they serve alcohol in Surabaya. The shower could have used a good cleaning...mold on the floor glass and tile.
If you don’t mind antiques and Beautiful gardens. But the walk to the mall across the road is quite a hassle.
Lovely colonial era hotel
Great to see the attention that goes into maintaining the colonial era charm of the hotel.
Beautiful Colonial hotel
This was the 4th time I have stayed at this hotel. If is great to enjoy the "old world" charm. Magnificent manicured gardens/grounds, quality staff who speak good English.
Historic hotel, that was my only reason for stay.
Good old hotel with nice facilities and a comfortable bed.
Best place to stay in Surabaya
Excellent service and beautiful hotels in lovely gardens.
Cosy hotel downtown Surabaya
Wonderful cosy hotel right in the center of Surabaya. Has an open colonial architecture and rooms that look out into beautiful green courtyards with fountains. I had a pleasant stay in a heritage suite that was spacious and comfortable. Food was nice but not fantastic but no complains.Staff were fantastic and so polite. I definitely would recommend this hotel!
Don’t miss staying in this hotel
Excellent the best in Java.....do go there if you want to to stay in a magnificent period property with absolutely stunning gardens - go swim in the pool. You will not forget your stay in this hotel.
Tempo doeloe
Very helpfull & friendly staff. You really feel a warm welcome here. The building and its interior is just magnificient ! If you are in the vicinity of Surabaya just try to stay here .. it’s an experience you’ll never forget.
You must stay in this hotel whilst in Java
We have been in Bali and Java for the past 2 weeks and this hotel is far the best we have ever stayed in anywhere in the world. Serene/excellent food/not too attentive staff - plus a lovely spa and outdoor pool. Do go and stay there —- you will not regret it.
Good location, nice hotel
Mount Agung canceled my trip to Gili meno
What a better way to spend a long weekend in Surabaya. The Majapahit is close to the TP mall, close to “our bar” and Mirota. The food is amazing, room service is fast, the pool is beautiful, and the Martha Tilar Spa is worth it! We loved pampering ourselves. We miss hanging out at the beach but the ambiance and old Dutch style Hotel is beautiful and the decor brings you into an era of days gone bye. The hotel was named after a Royal Dutch family and discerned travelers from diplomatic to the royal and rich and famous visited this hotel .
Grand Hotel in Surabaya
The Majapahit is definitely the place o stay in Surabaya given its fascinating history. It is very luxurious and grand hotel with spacious rooms and common spaces, including beautiful gardens/courtyards, and a wonderful swimming pool. The breakfast buffet is one of the best we have ever experienced in many countries across Asia. The room service dinner was also outstanding. The staff is efficient, friendly and helpful. Overall an amazing stay.
glamorous with stains
Hotel Majapahit is one of the most beautiful hotels I've stayed in. The staff is beyond helpful and extremely friendly. everything is well-maintained and clean - except.. the wellness area, the jacuzzi/sauna/steam room in specific. It really is a bit of a disaster.. the jacuzzi was out of service and the steam room as well as the sauna were turned off. Upon entering the facilities a staff member did turn on the steam room, but i was told that it would take twenty minutes before i could use it. I decided to wait by swimming a couple of laps in the pool (which is large and impeccable). After what could not have been more than 40 minutes i went back to use the steam room but it was already turned off again, with no steam or heat remaining. It was turned on once more and this time I waited 20 minutes before I went back and was met by the slightest bit of steam and a temperature about 5 degrees higher than outside. Also to my disgust there was a used Q-tip on the floor.. Another disappointing element was the food. We had breakfast, both an indonesian and an american breakfast which took a very long time and turned out to be bland and below standard.. the coffee was tepid
Excellent
Hotel Majapahit is a High Class Hotel with a special historical and architectural touch. A very delicate decoration that brings modernity without sacrificing the historical wealth of the place.
A wonderful weekend break.
Very comfortable stay in a beautiful historic hotel. Excellent large comfortable room, huge pool, great friendly service from the staff, huge buffet breakfast and very good local fish from the east meets west restaurant. Amazing value for money.
Outstanding hotel
Our short stay in the hotel has been excellent. The room was in great shape and really clean. The breakfast was nice and the selection was pretty wide. The only exception was the dinner at Maj which was terrible since we had to wait for almost an hour and some of the food was cold and we got the wrong dishes etc.. That seems to be in line with what other people experienced in the other restaurant of the hotel. Will definitively come back just will dine in other restaurants.
Stay here for a pleasant experience and comfort
We had the Executive room and I have a good experience from the day I arrived. We were welcomed by friendly front desk who offered us with drink and warm towel. Checking in was easy and fast. Smiles were everywhere in the hotel. Its contagious. Staff are friendly and always helpful. Room is spacious, clean and comfortable. Toilet is always clean and we were never short of toiletries. Breakfast has a good spread. Dinner and Bakery is reasonable. I can go on and on on the hotel but you have got to experience it yourself. There were mosquitoes but there always fumigation. They also provide spray and lotion. Just bring some on your own just in case. Still.. it wont stop you for having a good stay.
Perfect hotel!
We loved the hotel and will definitely return! Perfect short Surabaya stay!
This is such a beautiful hotel. It's a huge hotel but with the extensive passageways and courtyards it's easy to think you're the only one there. Really worth the stay (and the staff are extremely accomodating and courteous)
Enjoyable time tasting local foods
Breakfast was good with adequate choice. Found the Chinese Restaurant on level 2 excellent in food and service.
A beautiful Hotel that needs some TLC
The hotel was beautiful, especially the gardens but a lot of areas are in need of renovation and you can tell that there has been no investment into the upkeep for a long time. The pool towels look very old and faded and so does most of the furniture and the restaurant looks very dated. The gardens are immaculately kept. The neighbourhood is a bit if a dump and the Hotel sits right on a permanently busy main road which makes it a bit noisy and air quality is not great. The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. The spa was fantastic value for money and the treatments were of a high standard.
Beautiful hotel with the most beautiful staff.
The only diwnside was the internet wasn't the brst
An amazing experience to repeat again and again
This hotel is a masterpiece in all senses, and especially to someone how likes to be transported back to colonial times. The architecture is simply the finest, the courtyards inside beautiful, the overall feeling everywhere priceless. The reception, restaurants and old entrance lobby are filled with history in every corner with a meticulously work of historic preservation worth to mention. Since the moment we walked in late at night every member of stuff treated us special. You are not just a "number" or "another person". Everyone is well treated, and remembered my name the entire stay! Even the less likely person they did called my name. The room was beautiful, bright, cute terrace, great shape and care, impressive blend of modern with the old copper bath tap, sink and shower. Even the light switches are original from the era. Very large breakfast of top quality products, and a chef to make fresh eggs of many types available. The pool although not large was heated and very nice. Only downside the pool towels, really old and with holes! Not matching for a truly 5* property. Location unbeatable. Walking distance to the most important sights, and just across the road a huge shopping mall with gigantic food court. It has been one of the very few places I've check out and I felt sad for leaving such splendid and beautiful place. Without any doubt will select the same hotel on a next visit.
Good time
Enjoyablw
Good location
Enjoyed our stay. Good old fashion ambiance to surroundings with nice green gardens.
It was a great trip. They were very accommodating. They personally came to my room to help me solve plugging in my electronics. They use the British Three prong system. The room was gorgeous, comfortable temperature. Excellent shower. The staff was attentive but not intrusive. Highly recommend going to there. The history of the hotel is fascinating.
Perfect ... except the neighborhood
Felt like a king staying here. Service was fantastic. The hotel does its best to shelter its guests from the bustle of Surabaya, but it feels out of place. Obviously, this is not the fault of the hotel, which has been there for a century and it is not lacking in charm, regardless.
It was the best way to finish our two week excursion around east java. Lush, luxurious, and just gorgeous! The breakfast was top notch covering all your desired tastes & wants!! We did have dinner at their one restaurant, Indigo, which is pricey for Indonesia (which is worth it usually...) But both my husband & i didnt think our food was worth it. But that is honestly the only thing that wasnt superior. I highly recommend this place!
Beautiful Hotel!
Stayed for the second time but the first time was years back and only for one night. This time round stayed for 2 nights with my parents and we had a fabulous time. Both checking-in and checking-out were hassle-free and the staff were super friendly and efficient, speak excellent English as well. The staff presented me with a birthday cake on the day when I checked out which was a pleasant surprise!! Cakes and cookies sold at Toko Deli had my mother craving for more. Shopping malls were located just opposite. Last but not least, the hotel was simply beautiful, a perfect match to her reputation.
Excellent location and place!!!
7 minutes walk to tungunggan plaza excellent service from everyone in hotel great ambiance in the room and the surrondings I could just spend half a day in the hotel enjoying the facilities and enjoy the history!
Relaxing weekend retreat
Beautiful hotel, excellent food. Nice pool and spa. Hotel provided complimentary extra bed for our daughter. We stayed in an Executive Room in the far back 2nd floor between pool and garden. Very comfortable room, the only disappointments were very poor wifi signal, and slight mildew smell when entering the room. There is poor ventilation in the room and it just smells damp. This created a negative first impression. It is also in a very busy and noisy part of the city. We heard loud music throughout the day from neighboring businesses.
worth the stay though pricy
The staff were friendly. They showed me around the place and explained a little on the history behind Majapahit Hotel. The hotel is well maintained except that the hot tub was too hot for me (48°C) and the steam room doesn't seem to be working. The spa service is good. Venue is 5 min walk from shopping mall.
A must
Excellent stay at by far the best hotel in Surabaya

A great hotel with excellent service as always
