Great location, but this hotel needs an update. Much of the furniture is chipped. Bathrooms could be updated.
The room was very comfortable and breakfast was delicious. Loved the decor especially in the lobby and breakfast area. Hope to return again soon.
Lovely place
Very nice. Staff was great.
Highly recommend
Fantastic little boutique hotel in a fantastic area right off the Place Bellecour. The hotel was lovely and well appointed. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only complaint I have is that I really couldn’t get my room too warm but I managed.
Amazing customer service from a full & busy hotel
Amazing customer service especially from the front desk & specifically the considerate who was a mine of information and help, even with unusual questions. In the centre of all the action for the fete de lumieres, with a great view from my balcony. Loved the red bar - very intimate!
2 Days in Lyon
Very nice hotel, very well located. Metro was steps from the door and easy walk to the old town. Main pedestrian shopping district a block away. Staff are superb.
Two metro lines, and great location on the city.
Great location ,
The central location of the hotel is ideal for exploring Lyon. The staff is friendly and professional and the breakfast is superb! We asked the chef to prepare omelettes and they were cooked to absolute perfection. The hotel also houses the Bocuse Institute restaurant, staffed by students in both the front and back of house. Our three course meal was was sublime. There are students working in the kitchen who may earn their own Michelin star one day. The servers made a few mistakes with silverware placement and blanking on the ingredient list when serving the main course. In both cases a senior instructor jumped in to correct the student and fix the mistake. It was a great experience for us and a learning experience for the students. Our only complaint with the hotel was the furnishings in the room. They were somewhat old and long in the tooth. It's time to replace the carpets and the furniture.
Excellent from start to finish from the welcome to the departure all the staff we had interactions with were great especially Clement on our arrival. The hotel is ideally situated for all Lyon has to offer from the Tour Bus which starts on the square to the two rivers which are within easy reach in either direction from the hotel. The hotel is walkable if coming from the station but will take about 40mins. The breakfast is wonderful with plenty on offer to set you up for the day. The only minor complaint regards our room which was wonderful and you certainly were able to relax was the bathroom door could do with being replaced as had seen better days(back of door) but that did not detract from our stay and would happily recommend this hotel for anyone looking to stay in Lyon
The location of this hotel was perfect, close to everything. The restaurant choices were numerous, with the crown jewel being L'Institute de Bocuse at the same location. The staff was excellent - kind, helpful, and welcoming. The rooms were impeccably clean. The property could use some maintenance/updating. We will definitely go back!
Very nice and centrally located. Very convenient
A boutique feel and lovely staff
Our stay was perfect. Love the hotel. Perfect location to reach sights. Great staff. Only complaint would be the marginal illumination in the room. This seems to be a France wide issue!
Comfortable Hotel in Convenient Location
Staying in hotel on Place Bellecour made a convenient location for a first visit to Lyon. Enjoyed quiet room on courtyard with very comfortable bed and welcome cooling during hot weather. The concierge was of particular help in recommending restaurants and suggesting activities.
Beautiful hotel in a great location. However they need a remodel and update . The first room had issues with sink and bathtub. Second room update suite had an issue with shower head not working and leaking water all over . The over all hotel is beautiful inside but needs major update .
Staff all around was 5 stars. Great location! So much in walking distance including a bunch of restaurants 50 yards away. The only thing I would warn against is the room size. If youbare traveling alone great. It seems like a perfect place for businesses travelers. For couple I would look for a place with a bigger room. The bed is up against the wall so you have to climb over each other. The toilet and shower are right on top of each other, and the hand sink is in the room. There is no real separate "bathroom". But like like I said, great room for a single traveler!
Air conditioning on the 5th floor is mediocre at best
Clean, great location, great staff.
The staff was very helpful and friendly.
The hotel staff were very friendly and were kind enough to speak to us in English. They even offered us options for a bath or a shower and view of the city. If you ever consider paying extra for the breakfast- do it. We were recommended the hotel for it's comfort and breakfast and it was worth it. Do try the egg station they are so so good. The staff were ever so friendly and extremely helpful. The bed was huge and comfortable and you can even check out leave your luggage safely at the hotel while you explore the city and come back and collect it. If we ever do travel to Lyon again we will definitely be staying there again.
The hotel is a lovely boutique hotel and our superior room was large by European standards. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They worked hard to get our room ready for an early check-in. Would stay again if we travel back to Lyon.
Great location- front desk pleasant but not warmly welcoming. Consigliere was very nice and helpful. Spacious rooms and very clean. Fun bar.
My wife and I along with our 5 year old Grandson spent 4 great nights at Hotel Le Royal. Nice and quiet area, hardly any traffic passing by even though its in the centre of the city. The hotel is nice and clean and the staff were amazing, friendly and helpful. We will be returning to Hotel Le Royal next year !!!
One of the best.
Very cozy hotel, professional staff, very clean. French hospitality at its best.
Quick Weekend holiday
Location to city centre and all that Lyon has to offer was perfect.
My husband and I just spent eight nights in a suite overlooking the Place Bellecour. It was charming, spacious and well-appointed. The breakfast buffet, which included lots of local specialties, was wonderful, and the students from the Paul Bocuse cooking school took very good care of us. The front desk staff and the concierge were always helpful and friendly. We visited the bar for an after dinner drink on more than one occasion. We loved the red decor and the music from the 1960s and 1970s. The location on Place Bellecour, just steps from the tourist office, was extremely convenient. Overall, we had an excellent stay.
A nice hotel in the heart of Lyon. Public parking is nearby. Very good breakfast. Attentive staff.
Great hotel
We absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Royal. It is very central, with incredibly helpful staff. The interiors are tastefully decorated. Highly recommend
Holiday Night
Great service and attention to detail. Wonderful holiday vibe.
Older hotel that is upgraded. Fantastic location. Breakfast was a little disappointing - we went out after one experience. Staff treated us like royalty. Manager walked us into L'Institute and introduced us to the maitre d' before our dinner - nice touch. Beds were very comfortable. Concierge offered great suggestions and helped with dinner reservations.
Wedding Anniversary Trip-
Outstanding trip! And our hotel was the main reason. Perfect location. Ideal to walking to the Old City as well as museums and restaurants. The hotel is so welcoming! Elegant but warm. The staff was outstanding! So helpful in every way! Our suite was spacious and well appointed. The bed was extremely comfortable. The special tour the hotel offers, is a must! The views from the rooftop are not to be missed. Breathtaking! This is the only Hotel we will stay in while visiting Lyon.
Amazing property with top notch service
Perfection
Not my idea of a courtyard view!
Having booked a courtyard view we were expecting something rather more picturesque than the buildings opposite and corrugated roof below. Otherwise OK - as you'd expect from a hotel of this standard.
Beautiful historic hotel but rooms are on the small side
Perfect location, for us and what we wanted to visit. Several pedestrian-only streets very close. The staff could not be more helpful. Great breakfast and wonderful service.
EVA (Ewa?) was absolutely great. Incredibly professional and delightful. She helped combine two separate reservations for me. Called me on my US number a couple of times etc etc. It was however disappointing to see that at about 4 PM when i checked in, my room was not ready even though check in is at 3 PM...then the faucet had no hot water...i had to wait for a while to get hot water. The rooms are small. Location is good, in a prime neighborhood.
I had a pleasant stay here for one night. Eat at Chez Max next door! Great authentic French food. Beautiful unique town.
Great place
We had a beautiful one night stay at Le Royal Lyon. The staff was wonderful and took excellent care of us when, initially, our shower wasn’t working. They opened our adjoining door and gave us 2 rooms for the night so that we didn’t need to pack up all of our things to change rooms. The location was close to many beautiful cafés and restaurants. There was lovely shopping as well, though much of it was closed due to the August 15th holiday. We loved this hotel and we loved Lyon!!
Love the hotel specially the room with balcony. Convenient location
Very Elegant Hotel
Very elegant hotel. Excellent location. We loved it & highly recommend it!
Very comfortable bed!
Excellent staff, clean, good location
Great staff. Very accommodating.
This is an absolutely lovely hotel and restaurant.
We felt very fortunate to have chosen Hotel Royal Lyon. The room was big, comfortable, clean, and stylish. It was walking distance from most of what we wanted to see in Lyon, and the metro is right across the street.
Underwhelming…
My stay was comfortable; the bed was like floating on a cloud, although over all the room was slightly dated. I was disappointed when using the shower after my first evening that the shower gel and shampoo containers were completely empty, I was rushing to be ready for a meeting and there was no urgency amongst the staff when I called down and they only responded after I went to reception to complain in person.
Perfect!
Very pleasant stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially specelly Patrick and delen . The hotel is very near to the city centre. Great stay!
Overall, a pleasure
Fairly good sized European room. Missing drawer space
Beautiful rooms in the hotel to enhot beside own hotel rion E
comfortable and value for money
room and bathroom are very huge, bath and wc has separate rooms and a walk-in closet. location is few minutes to shops and restaurants. Very safe environment and easy access to public transport
Nice city hotel
Very charming hotel, excellent service and everything needed provided. The people were all lovely and welcoming, front desk at check in, the concierge, and the bar attendant. The room was comfortable and clean. Check in was easy. Very service oriented. They insisted on bringing my luggage to my room. They offered complimentary waters and an apricot juice which I thought was a very nice touch. A charming city hotel and a nice experience overall. The area seemed very quiet and peaceful with ample restaurants and stores in walking distance. I will stay here again.
Great location, service, and well maintained. Shower and sink drained slowly but besides that all good. Restaurants maybe 10 minutes walk away as is shopping. Hotel has valet service which is great when driving but you need to go in or call them to get the car ,,, wish this was better.
Fantastic staff
The staff are very polite and helpful.
Decent Hotel
Stayed for 2 nights whilst in Lyon to watch a rugby game. Hotel location is great being right next to a Metro station. Booked a superior double with a courtyard view which was basically a view of a wall. The room was clean but on the small side for being classed as 'superior' room and it definitely needed a bit of maintenance work done re paintwork and loose fittings. Breakfast was included in price but it would not be worth it if paid for separately at, I think, 27 euros.
Amazing hotel and staff
Amazing hotel! Staff was so friendly and helpful. Everything about the hotel was charming and beautiful.
Great location and staff. Breakfast was exceptionally good with everything you could want including cooked to order eggs. Hotel is a little run down and our room and bathroom was tiny albeit with an amazing view of bellecour square. Air conditioning was totally ineffective and noisy so be warned.
Every time we go to Lyon; we stay at this hotel. It is wonderful. It is located fine. Walking in Lyon is easy. Restaurants are abundant. The staff is very kind.
the hotel is well located, surrounded by restaurants. Breakfast at the hotel is great.
The coffee machine was hard to use and our room was not properly serviced on one day. Otherwise, we were happy with our stay.
Wonderful room with the best hotel bed I've had in ages. We slept so well !
Great checkin, super friendly and they spoke English very well, location is amazing and had a lovely breakfast.
great hotel
everything was perfect
Very attentive and professional staff. Very comfortable bed. But there was a heat wave (99-degree days) while we were there, and the air conditioning could not keep up despite being set at the coldest possible temperature. We were uncomfortably warm a good bit of the time.
My favorite hotel in Lyon for the past 26 years.
Very nice. Thank you!
Great location with a very friendly staff.
Best hotel Lyons
We had a junior suite. The view over the main square in Bellecour was unsurpassable. The bed was super comfortable. Room service ended at 10.30 pm which doesnt really make sense. We also had to come thrice ti try and check in. First at 14.15, then at 15.00, finally at 15.40. Thats unacceptable for a 5* french hotel. Otherwise all was perfect.
Yes. It is the 5 stars hotel. Very qualified.
Excellent
Superb staff
Enjoyed our stay here - all was great: location, comfort, very friendly and professional staff. Never had better sleep than here. Their restaurant is exquisite. Amenities are new and good. Will come back on our next visit to Lyon.
Beautiful hotel. Great location for walking. Staff was very helpful. They went above and beyond in making us feel welcome. Would love to stay there again.
The lobby is nice and staff extremely friendly. They provide good service with valet for the car and your bags. First impression of the room was good but once it came to take a shower it was all downhill. They have no actual shower. They had an elevated tub with a shower head. It appears you are meant to sit on a shelf behind the tub and rinse yourself with the shower head. Issues with that are 1) I just want to stand and take a shower 2) the tile seat to sit on had missing grout and mildew 3) the shower head broke off 4) water gets everywhere. They repaired the shower head but it just broke off again. In general the room needs updated plumbing hardware and door handles. All the door handles are broken and even the sink drain was broken. The apologized, offered some champagne at the bar but it really needs somebody in upper management to come and say their hotels standards aren’t being met and put some money into fixing the bathrooms. They are just making like harder on their customers and staff.
Great hotel in central Lyon
Loved the hotel… advert is misleading with regards parking, but quality of hotel lets you get over that!!!
The location and staff were excellent! Hotel rooms are a bit small, but that’s to be expected. All amenities were exceptional, and we thoroughly enjoyed our cocktails at the hotel bar.
Great location, excellent staff
Lovely property with very helpful staff and one of the most comfortable beds I have found in a hotel. Very convenient location to access many Lyon sites.
Excellent staff!
Great staff and beautiful place
LE ROYAL-ROYAL HOTEL
AMAZING HOTEL BEST LOCATION LARGE COMFORTABLE ROOM WONDERFULL STAFF
Always a pleasure stay!
This hotel is a luxury, we had the best time as the hotel staff was extremely helpful, respectful. The property is extremely clean, and beautifully furnished. The Breakfast is one of a kind and highly recommended. We had a wonderful time, we were pleasantly surprised by the welcome coffee we got from the hotel management team, and will give the hotel 8*, 5* is not do justice.
Best location for everything. Amazing boutique hotel,
Lovely hotel
This is a lovely hotel in a nice location. Easy to walk to the water and also near public transportation that was one stop to the older part of the city. Room, while not large, was nicely decorated with a large shower.
Classy, beautiful hotel in great location! The wallpaper matches the upholstery. Great breakfast. Can’t say enough about the quality of the staff and facility!
Highly recommend
Beautiful hotel in a perfect location with helpful and kind staff. I was on a solo getaway to see friends and have some “me” time, and it was perfect.
Everything was great, we had a car for driving to the Burgundy wine country so that was a deciding factor. Rooms are spacious and the breakfast room is something out of a French homestore magazine!
Amazing hotel, best location, definitely will go back
Property was very nice in a great location. Room was very nice. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
Staff was wonderful; location and atmosphere were lovely.
Nice property in good location with nice bar, breakfast room and lounge. Complementary water was nice to have. Staff excellent and helpful. Little hot water from tap and shower did not work properly.
Great hotel in the center of Lyon, close to everything: shopping, dining and sightseeing. Nice helpful staff and sparkling cleanliness everywhere
Friendly, efficient and beautifully set out.
Three days overlooking Bellecour. Staff were engaging, friendly and very efficient. Rooms and bathroom are not large but well kept and clean. Pleasant second floor bar over looking the square and next door to its sibling restaurant. A wonderful stay.
This hotel is tired. The rooms are small and the bathroom had paint that was chipping off. The lobby is quaint, and the rooms are decorated in a charming way, but it is definitely NOT a 5 Start property.
