Probably the best decision in my trip. The hotel is cozy, comfortable, and has character. The staff is superb: cordial and helpful all the time.

Wonderful location

Always love staying at the Donjon. The location is perfect, staff are friendly, great breakfast. The only negative is the bathroom. We had 3 rooms and all 3 the shower water leaked all over the floor despite numerous attempts to stop this. Also a couple of our travellers nearly slipped in the shower. The surface is very slippery.

This is a property with character. Staff was professional, helpful and courteous. Located within the city wals, this was an ideal location to walk around, explore with easy access to shops and restaurants. Very Nice room on the second Floor with separate toilet and shower rooms. Lighting in the main room could be enhanced. Very good breakfast buffet with enough choice to please anybody. Very courteous breakfast room attendant. Quiet area as the mediëval city is virtually carfree. Highly recommended. We took the bus from the train station and a taxi back.

Peaceful, heart of the Cite

We were greeted by a lovely friendly receptionist who quickly checked us in and showed us to our room. The room was large and comfortable with a seating area and a raised bed area. The bed was large and comfortable with lovely linen and very comfortable. The bathroom had a separate shower and a bath and the toilet was separate which was really nice. We had a fridge which was handy and the TV was by the bed and was easily positioned towards the bed. The room overlooked the garden and was very peaceful. It was too cold to sit outside though there was a table and chairs if we had wanted to do so. The hotel is in the heart of the Cite and is close to lots of bars and restaurants. At this time of the year (late November) not all are open and some are only open on certain days or times so choice is smaller for eating in the evening but we found that the food was good at all the places we chose. We were very happy with our stay this being our 4th stay at this hotel and this was definitely the best room we have had at this hotel. We will no doubt be staying here again and really recommend this hotel

Quiet and comfortable

Very nice option in the medieval town. The private patio was a nice touch.

This is a historic hotel in the heart of Carcassonne. There are steps to the rooms. It was clean with an accommodating staff. We had a later arrival than planned and the parking attendant waited and got us and all our luggage to the hotel. We were able to access parking after hours also with a code. Breakfast was good. The bar area was lovely. I would stay here again.

Its a great place to stay when you want to visit Carcassone and be inside the walls. The hotel gardens was very nice. The only issue with the room was the carpet and the toilet (very low seat and toilet water splashed onto the seat when you flushed).

Our room 22 had a broken toilet and staff couldn’t care less about it … we only stayed 1 night so we survived but the hotel personnel was arrogant and dismissive about toilet not flushing down . Location was good, we didn’t have breakfast at the hotel . Garden and private garden seating area are lovely .

Lovely staying in the castle but was tricky finding food in the morning if you didn’t want to go with hotel Continential breakfast. Service, hotel and location were excellent. Room was comfortable and bathroom was a good size for a hotel.

The Hotel le DonJon is an ideal base within the walls of the medieval city! The hotel is beautiful and the staff is very professional. David met us in the parking lot right outside the walls, and drove us and our luggage to the hotel. The fellow at the front desk was also excellent. ( I apologgize for not getting his name.)

Nice hotel, well located, but no amenities.

Well located, beautiful historic building. The room was quite basic, but fine. Site staff was very kind and friendly. But I missed the amenities that a 4-star hotel should have (toothbrush, shower cup....).

The two staff members we engaged with were incredibly kind, helpful and understanding, going beyond what would be expected in order to help us. Even though they were busy, they did not act as if they were busy, but gave us all the time we needed.

The hotel is conveniently located within the walled city. You can walk out of the hotel and access the restaurants and UNESCO heritage site. Other than the location and breakfast, the hotel service left much to be desired. They misadvertize the family room for four with 2 doublebeds. The second bed is a sofa bed (should clearly state that). On our arrival, while the sofa bed was pulled out, there were no sheets, blanket or comforter. We had to call late at night to request. When our train was late, I messaged the hotel. They didn't respond or acknowledge till a day later. The front desk person would not make a dinner reservation for us on arrival and requested that we walk around. When he told us that we will not be able to get into the restaurant next door because of time (without even trying), we were able to walk in and request a table. Overall, very disappointing service by the front desk.

great location. We recommend using their paid private parking just outside the city walls; it worked well. Interesting lobby with old books and board games. We had fun playing the board game Carcasonne in Carcasonne. We recommend staying in old city so you can wander around at night when few people are there.

Sadly disappointing

A superior room was booked my daughter for us. we realised that the room was actually a basic room, no view apart from an alleyway which gave passersby a full view into the room, so no privacy. The curtains were missing several hooks so the curtain hung down when drawn, which let in light. Staff were very charming and helpful but on the first evening there was only one member of staff who was lovely but absolutely run ragged! The car parking arrangements however were excellent, a very good service, particularly as my husband left his glasses in the car and it was no problem for the guys to collect them for us. But all in all a disappointing stay unfortunately.

Right inside the walls of the town, the perfect location to explore this wonderful place. A great bteakfast too.

Great Location and Staff

The location was great and the staff was very kind and helpful. The logistics of getting to the hotel could be a bit more descriptive as it’s a little tricky! But once we found the correct parking lot we were well taken care of and the really nice crew got us up to the hotel in the old city. Those guys work hard and are so helpful! The hotel is fine but dated. Could use a refresh - and we weren’t aware that our daughters would be sleeping on a (very creaky, uncomfortable) sofa bed as the description of the family suite didn’t specify that. Aside from that we enjoyed our stay and the incredible convenience of the location!

Perfect location!

Had a lovely stay and the hotel being situated within the old city walls was perfect. We drove there and paid the £22 euros for the car park which was fantastic. We were in a Tesla and they had 2 chargers so we were ready to go the next day! They drive you through the narrow city streets straight to the hotel - that was an experience and a brilliant touch! We only had a classic room and you get what you pay - it was nice enough but a little dated. Very comfortable and large bed and clean. Check in was extremely good and friendly. Overall, I think it is a great little find and the garden was really pretty to relax in

Great place with wonderful staff!

A good stay, with a reasonable room. The hotel is let down by their restaurant which was over priced and the food was not very good. The service in the restaurant was rushed as though they wanted my table, which I dislike.

Donjon is great

The Hotel is wonderful. The room was modern and yet quaint overlooking the city. The trip from the parking outside the wall was unexpectedly cool. The porter/driver, Jerome, was amazing. He was friendly, a veritable tour guide for both the city and France in general. His driving in the tight quarters of the gates and the narrow street of this medieval city was a marvel to experience.

It’s very fun to stay within the walls of Carcassonne. The ride from the welcome point through the narrow streets was also entertaining. Friendly staff and great service.

It was wonderful to be right in the Medieval Citadel for the night. MIchelin starred restaurants are nearby. And the local patisserie is the best we had on our whole trip. Room was clean and very conveniently located.

Everything was lovely! A beautiful place. An excellent breakfast, too!

The hotel is wonderfully located and extraordinarily relaxing. Three nights in April was a bucket-list experience —plenty of time to explore the walled city, inside and out, and to enjoy the local cuisine. Bring your walking shoes and memory cards for all of your photos!

It's an amazing hotel. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The bed very confortable. The breakfest complete and tasty. The hotel in in the centre of La Cité, near to all small streets and shops with souvenirs.

This was our 3rd time in Carcassone and our 2nd time at Hotel Le Donjon. We had a really rough vacation in general as my family was ill with the stomach flu, all at different times of our trip (before and during our visit to Carcassone). Our first of two nights in Carcassone was when my husband fell VERY ill with the stomach flu and he was bedridden. When it was time to check out, there was no way he could get out of bed or walk, so we booked him an extra night to recover while me and the kids went on to the next place (Toulouse). While he was there alone, the staff was very kind and helpful and even helped bring him water and whatever else he needed. I had a very difficult experience with our hotel in Toulouse who showed us no grace at all for what we were put through, and it made us appreciate the staff at Hotel Le Donjon even more. When I came the next day to pick up my husband, they allowed him to stay in the room 2 hours past checkout at no charge and there was a car service that took us to the parking lot since he could barely walk. They really empathized with us and did what they could to help and it really meant the world to us. We always take our friends visiting from out of the country to Carcassonne, and no doubt we'll be back to give them the business over anyone else there. Thank you again.

Comfort in the "heart".

The hotel and staff are wonderful. The staff was very helpful. The breakfast buffet was a good value in my opinion. The parking for the hotel is simple and easy to get to...just do not follow Google maps to hotel, rely on the information the hotel gives you! I have a specific complaint regarding our room, #28, this room is directly above the restaurant/breakfast room and we were distracted by the late night noise from the service taking place the night before and a bit distressed by the wafting smell of burnt toast in the morning. Also, there are no electrical outlets near the bed on either side, the front desk was able to lend us an extension cord for the devices we needed to use bedside. The view from the room was great and the bed comfortable and room large.

Wonderful location in the middle of the city. Parking is tricky so be sure to call ahead to figure out parking. We ate dinner at the restaurant at the hotel, excellent food and service.

Great location, needs some renovation.

The location of this hotel is perfect. The lobby is lovely; however, the rooms need some renovation, specifically the bathroom. The grout between the shower tiles is stained, giving it an unclean look. The shower door is rusty.

Excellent choice for the centre of the Medieval City. Lots of interesting, quirky features and a delightful courtyard garden out the back. Breakfast a little pricey but plenty of choice.

Valet Missing In Action.

Breakfast buffet was very good. We were instructed to drive to the hotel’s private parking lot and a porter would transport us to the hotel. When we arrived, no porter in sight so we walked to the hotel with our luggage. Adter Discussing this issue with the hotel, they comped us one days parking. We had a nice stay. Room was small but very comfortable.

Carcassonne is amazing and the Le Donjon is located right in the middle of the walled city. The courtyard area is peaceful and relaxing. Lots of good dining options. We would definitely come back!

A DIAMOND IN CARCASSONNE

Very nice hotel, great location inside the 13th century walls. Friendly service, great accommodations on a beautiful garden (with a small supplement). A word of caution, it’s a short walk from the “Pont Levi’s” to the hotel on cobblestone old alleys and the property has several (many) steps. No taxi are allowed within the old city.

A special place..

Beautiful hotel in the bastide. Lovely, bilingual staff from the car park to the reception. Room was immaculate, and the bed so comfortable! We shall definitely be back for a longer stay. Thank you all.

Atmospheric base in city walls

Great location but had to wait a long time for our bags to arrive on the shuttle, having walked 10 minutes from the car park to the hotel. Wonderful atmosphere.

In my opinion this is not a four start hotel. It has no atmosphere. The deco is poor. The bedrooms need a refresh especially the bathrooms. The breakfast was very poor. The dining area is very poor. The staff were very good. The secure car parking was good. The location was excellent.

The night was very noisy, the pillows lumpy and the bed not comfortable. The water pressure in the shower is very poor.

Perfectly positioned in the old city, I was impressed before I got to the hotel by the ability to be transported by the hotel from the hotel carpark outside the walls to the hotel. My room was off the garden, very comfortable and quiet. All aspects of the medieval city are a short walk away and easily accessed. Do yourself a favour and visit La Boulangerie de la cité for lunch or some pastries.

The hotel is amazing! So much history but also has modern conveniences, such as air-conditioned rooms. Plus there’s something special about staying inside the Cité! The staff were very helpful and accommodating and speak multiple languages. Highly recommend!

The hotel was a perfect home base for exploring the Cite in Carcassonne. Despite being right in the heart of the action, it is peaceful and quiet inside, especially in the beautiful garden. The staff were friendly and helpful, shuttle was efficient, and the hotel was clean and well equipped. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay inside the walls to explore.

Responsive, friendly, accommodating staff. The property was beyond our expectations and the family room was great for us and our two 5YO. To state the obvious, the location is perfect too. This will be our preferred hotel next time we’re in town!!

Lovely historic property. Wonderful staff.

Except room service everything was good. We stayed 2 nights first day and night in room 14. There was no hand and body soap in the room. The other day they forgot to refill tea sachets, water bottles and tea cups were still dirty.

What a gem!! I had no idea you could stay inside the Cité of Carcassonne. What a lovely experience. We arrived a bit late but called ahead and they came down to get us and drove us up to the hotel. That alone was an adventure! The hotel was beautiful, the staff was fantastic, the breakfast was delicious. If you want to visit Carcassonne this is the way to do it!!
