Great place to stay
In the park there are only 3 hotels to choose from. Jaguar inn is the most budget friendly. I was able to take my 2 children and spend very little. The restaurant serves excellent food, it’s clean, and friendly staff. The rooms are surrounded by nature where you will see wild turkeys, ant eaters, capibara and unique birds right outside your window. If you are used to higher end hotels, stay at the jungle lodge. There they have air conditioning, fancy restaurants, a pool and a more upscale environment, however, expect to spend a lot more money ! If you don’t mind a regular fan and no ac or pool you will save money and still have a good time. This is I unrelated to the hotel but I wanted to warn you to do your homework when purchasing the park passes. It can be a confusing and is best to understand what you are purchasing prior to arrival.
Pros - 1. friendly and helpful staff. Jonathan was a great help! 2. Good food with a surprisingly large menu. 3. Beautiful grounds. 4. Great location, just a few hundred yards from the park entrance. 5. For those who like to rough it and want to save money, this is your best bet. We thought it was better than the Tikal Inn next door Cons: 1. No AC. Ceiling fan wasn't enough to allow us to sleep comfortably 2. Mattress was extremely hard 3. Hardly any water pressure in shower 4. Mosquitoes ate me alive at night. At least offer guests mosquito nets for protection and replace screens on the windows and add weather seals on the door. Note: many reviews stated that the electricity was shut off every night. That did not happen at all during our stay. This might be because there were not as many guests, and power demand was not as high. If you want AC and are willing to pay more to have it, try Jungle Lodge, which is also inside the park.
This is my second visit to the Jaguar Inn. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Also, lots of wildlife to see around the hotel.
It's a very pretty setting in a great location for visiting Tikal. The dining room is nice and airy and there were many menu options. The small half-cottage we stayed in was somewhat rundown and there wasn't really much hot water for a shower at the specified times. The beds were comfortable but the walls are thin. Otherwise, it is very quiet. Staff were friendly.
I love the fact that it is right outside Tikal ruins, this gave us the unforgettable experience to do the sunrise and sunset tours. Staff was wonderful setting up our tour even thou we arrived very late they were also very helpful in getting us transportation to Belize
Everything was awesome staff place food
Great staff, food, location. Absolutely terrible bed, shower. Everything about the room actually.
The setting of the hotel was beautiful. We loved seeing the Toucans in the trees and were able to walk into the park. Our first morning - a Sunday, we were awakened at 8 am by the loud sound of a weed wacker right outside our bedroom window. It went on for too many minutes. Then, we sat outside the restaurant wanting to have a nice breakfast on the first morning of our vacation and they were cutting the grass. We had to listen to the lawm mower throughout our whole breakfast. This should be done in the afternoon when guests are not in the restaurant. The next morning it was quiet and we could enjoy hearing the birds in the trees. Please fix this - I'm sure no guests enjoyed that noise while trying to enjoy the beautiful tranquil environment we went there to experience. Gracias.
Fantastic place. I have used this before the staff are extremely helpful and the food is excellent. Will always come back here
Dream location of the best ruins in the world!
Can’t beat the location and it felt like we were right in the middle of a dream. So convenient to walk in and out of Tikal National park at will during the day. They cleaned daily, which was appreciated. The cabanas are getting a little worse for wear and the only reason we couldn’t rate it higher is a good part of our group were sickened by the restaurant fresh vegetables and fruit that we specifically asked if they were washed with soap and water. They were not!
very unique - quiet beautiful - simple accommodation in our family room but great food and so close to the park
Staff is great, on top of every detail. Property needs upgrade. It’s not like we expected it to be like its neighbor Jungle Lodge, but bathroom had some minor issues (odor, loose sink faucet), some room tiles were broken, and general appearance for the room could improve with minor upgrades in bed sheeting, decoration. Everything else was great, restaurant food quality is very good, service is great as well, location is superb.
Perfect place to stay in the park. The restaurant was convenient and had good food.
We couldn’t made it to the hotel, ‘cause the airline was very rude to us. Our flight was impossible to take it, so we didn’t have any experience in your hotel and is not be next time, we will go to some other places in which the tourist are well treated.
Good staff and friendly people close to the Tikal entrance absolutely amazing
My family and I were greeted with amazing staff during our stay. The hotel is very close to the park entrance to the amazing Mayan structures. As far as the food is, what can I say, it is nothing but amazing. I would definitely book another stay here at this hotel.
Ok
If you want to spend the smallest amount of money….go there but know your stay will be equivalent to camping but with four walls. The roaches, poor ventilation, the heat trapped in each room, no running water with an expectation of a normal hotel stay…is why I give 1 star. We were up all night killing HUGE roaches. So we missed the sunrise tour. Spend more and go to Jungle Hotel. Totally diff experience.
Great way to experience the park. We had a triple room that was as comfortable as could be with smoke and temperatures over 100 and no A.C. The ceiling fan worked well. You will see and hear lots of beautiful birds and hear the howler monkeys. I am so glad we stayed here because we could go in for the sunrise tour and come back and sleep and then go out for a second visit to the park before dinner and bed.
As an Eco lodge the facilities are understandably basic, but the environment makes up for this in spades - just sitting eating our breakfast we could hear howler monkeys and all sorts of bird song including woodpeckers turkeys and toucans. We were even visited by a family of spider monkeys who came down for a drink. Be aware - it’s in the jungle with the heat and humidity that goes with the territory but the bonus is being on the gateway to the National Park and trekking distance to the Mayan ruins at Tikal.
Perfect area to relax nice and quiet only thing I didn’t like was not air conditioning for the hot weather ceiling fan not enough
The hotel is nice and particularly convenient for Tikal tours. If you're planning sunrise and sunset tours, this hotel could be your best option as it's within walking distance of the park entrance. However, the facilities are somewhat dated; for example, our shower was broken, which could be hazardous if you have children. Despite this, the eco experience is fantastic! We visited in March, and although there's no AC, the temperatures were high. The fan provided wasn't sufficient during the day, so we spent most of our time outside enjoying the surrounding areas. Thankfully, we had a great experience observing the local wildlife, and the people were friendly and welcoming. The restaurant food is excellent, and we highly recommend dining there at least once. Alternatively, there are typical food options nearby, but be aware that most places close at 6pm due to sunset and limited energy usage. Despite the room being a bit warm, we had an amazing experience exploring Tikal both in the morning and at night. The service at the hotel was exceptional!
great location next to tikal
Muy limpió y el personal muy agradable. La comida tenía muy buen sazón.
Very nice people good food clean environment. Very nice to be at entry gate . The staff was very polite and also helpful.
Great location , In the middle of the rain forest steps away from the Tikal ruins . The restaurant has great food , reception very helpful , other observation, bring cash and buy tickets before you get there no credit card accepted in gift shops . Rain gear is suggested . There is entrance fees to rain forest in local money and not credit card or dollar
A really good place to stay in Tikal
We were very happy to stay here---it's the closest Inn to the actual site. The staff are friendly and helpful and do speak some English (because alas we speak very little Spanish). We ate at their restaurant too, and the food was fine. We had a room upstairs in the one building---it's fairly basic but quite comfortable, and the ceiling fan made the temperature bearable. They also organized a shuttle from and back to Flores airport, which is very useful. Sitting on their small outside patio listening to the sounds of the jungle in the evening was really fantastic.
Excellent stay for Tikal. Rooms are adequate and food good. You ARE in the jungle, you understand.
Fun jungle experience. Decently clean. Bugs to be expected in the environment. :)
Jaguar was amazing!
This is a really nice jungle stay. You’re off the grid, the wifi comes and goes, and there’s no service. But you don’t go to places like this for the connectivity! I think Jaguar has exceptional service, and the rooms are very clean. The food and drinks are unbeatable. You can walk into Tikal and it’s an unbeatable experience. Jaguar offers shuttles from Flores, yes you have to pay, but it’s not much and the drivers are very friendly. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Property did not meet expectations
A very nice hotel. The restaurant meals were excellent. Perfect location, 30 yards from the entrance to TIKAL. Staff was helpful and friendly
Great property right by the entrance to the temples. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Do keep in mind that the power goes off at 9pm which means no fans or air-conditioning at night. I wish I had bought along my small portable fan (just would have made the sleeping more comfortable). I was disappointed that the back end system with Expedia had not recorded my booking which mean the staff and I had to find proof in my emails and bank statement of payment when we arrived late. Thank goodness all was sorted the next day by checkout time. Love to go back and have more time exploring.
Because the hotel is eco-friendly they cut the electricity atc9:30 pm and was so hot and humid. Not a/c at all very uncomfortable, ano hotel next to this one even have a/c all the time even if they cut the power. A/C with photocells power. I try to book there but was all booked..wonder why.
Be advised that Expedia does not give all the details around the power shutoff at 10pm and no hot water after 9pm. When a ceiling fan is advertised in the jungle and it’s THE JUNGLE you definitely need air circulation. The restaurant was mediocre at best and expensive, but it was nice to have an option on site. We ended up checking out a day early of our 2 day stay to change to a hotel in El Remate - Las Gardenias with AC and slept much better there and there were many more food options in El Remate.
The property is next to the entrance of Tikal. The staff is friendly and the dinning is excellent. I will stay again. Bu the pool needs to be updated.
Property was falsely advertised stating they had a pool when they in fact did not. They also had very dangerous conditions like unsealed windows where a scorpion got inside.
Everything was great considering they run on generator power. The ruins, animals, and vegetation make up for the lack power at night. The staff was great and the food was good as well. Bring bug spray.
Bungalows located adjacent to the jungle: Howler Monkey Troupe wake up! Great staff and exceptional vegetarian dinner option! 45 min shuttle to Flores Airport
It was great to just walk out your room and enter the tikal ruins.
Expected it much better then what it was. The staff was really nice!
Beautiful location and nice rooms, but the food in the restaurant wasn't that interesting.
Best location if you want to visit Tikal, specially for sunrise. Comfortable rooms but unfortunately the smell coming from the bathroom wasn’t pleasant.
Everything was awesome. Would stay here again.
Wonderful and mystical experience that can never be met again unless we return. Somewhat lost in time while also at present time. The best opportunity to connect with your inner self and others without technology.
Modest accommodation, good service and adequate meals.
Great way to enjoy easy access to Tikal National Park. Very friendly, helpful staff!
👍
Muy proximo al parque Tikal. Personal amable.
Good Hotel to stay
Nice location, comfortable, clean hotel just nearby the park
We had a lovely room with a ceiling fan. The shower was good. The dining experience was the best!
The Tikal park is across the street and the jungle feeling.
Pleasant
Pleasant stay. Enjoyed the hammocks. Reception arranged guide for sunrise tour and guide was good. Stowed our baggage after checkout. Restaurant was good. Would stay again.
The property did not make it clear that we would need to pass through gates and buy tickets to get into the park before accessing the Hotel. They did not work with our reservation once we were unable to get transport into the Tikal National Park because we had a dog and could not pass through the gates (even though the dog was not staying at the hotel). They were not understanding and did not even try to accommodate the issues we faced. Terrible customer service and communication.
The property is in the park. Easy walk to entrance of park. Staff is friendly. Room clean. Bedding good. Hammocks outside of room were great. Will go back.
No wifi service, interrupted electricity, too poor the wifi service.
The property has a very nice view very calming and to stay for a no phone service type of weekend. The internet at the re emotion was poor and the Service was very long. Overall the stay was great.
Friendly staff and helpful for arranging transportation. Thanks!
This was a great place to stay while exploring Tikal! When I wasn't at the site I relaxed by swinging in the hammock outside my room. The food was good, staff was nice, and it was very convenient for exploring Tikal! They also helped me arrange some other adventures, which was incredibly helpful.
It is convenient in the park. Beautiful location! The down side is the food! It was disappointing.
Their advertisement mention that WIFI was available, and it was a misleading statement since it was only in the lobby, sporadic and with bad quality. The room was not cleaned on the second day. They don´t explain also that you need to purchase the park tickets, 17 kilometers before getting to the hotel, so you need to pay them extra to send somebody to buy the tickets.
Great
It could have been cleaner. But, for the price and the fact that you’re RIGHT IN Tikal, you really can’t beat it. I know there are probably nicer hotels in Tikal but this one was great for what it was. Wifi only works at specific times and only in the restaurant. It can be a little scary at night, but it’s a super cool experience to wake up to the sound of animals and nature.
Jaguar inn is conveniently located inside of the park. Steps away from the entrance and many small markets. Their Restaurant food is good but not wow! Their micheladas are BOMB!! my husband and I loved them. I feel like transportation is very overpriced $60 each way… but if you take a small cab from Flores is only like $15 or if you have time to take the public bus is only $10. Wifi doesn’t work much but it is okay, as you are in the jungle so not in need of technology (per say) Maps are Q.15 Definitely not a luxury hotel, we didn’t have shampoo, conditioner or lotion in our room… so I used the “3 in 1”(shampoo, cond, soap) that was in the shower. Worked okay, smelled good but my hair hated it lol. Unfortunately the people who stayed in the upper floor would not shut up, so it was hard to fall asleep… but other than that, hotel is good :) Sunrise or sunset hike tour is available. Loved the sunrise one.
No the best service
Workers seem a bit unatentive, they lie to guests about wifi being out when in reality they turn it off as they please. Not very helpful when asking for advice, they need some courses on hospitality. Overall extremly clean and beautifull location
All good
Great lodging
Walking distance to Tikal. No frills stay. Great service. The owner is very responsive and is able to provide transportation even last minute.
Reception was in the restaurant, easy to chrckin and the hotel was in the grounds of the park. Room was lovely, i was worrying what to expect. The electricity went out at 10pm in the restaurant but i had electricity all night. I didn't try the shower past 8pm to know if it was hotwater.
We loved our stay
Perfect location next to ruins. Wonderful people. Rooms a bit worn but that’s ok, they keep clean and try very hard. Love the garden and hammocks and restaurant, but menu is limited.
No fan, no electricity. If you want to visit Tikal that will take just one day. There is nothing else to do there.
Close to Tikal. A bit pricey. Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere to relax.
The Jaguar Inn and two other hotels are the only ones in the park right near to the Tikal ruins, so they have a monopoly and need not try too hard. They charge as much as most good hotels but don't offer the amenities. Yes, there are specific times that the electricity and water are turned off (in mid-morning, mid-afternoon, and all night). I understand that it's saving energy, but I would fill the plastic garbage can with water just in case my lady or I had to flush in the night. Because of this lack of consistent power, there are no fridges in the rooms either. The rooms are comfortable, at least more comfortable than the tenting, which is also available, but ours didn't get cleaned until later in the day. It was surprisingly chilly at night, but when the howler monkeys started up it sounded like Jurassic Park out there, so we didn't get great sleeps anyway. (Still loved the sound!) None of this is a secret, so it's worth the inconvenience just be so near Tikal that you can tour it at will over two or more days. The restaurant is pretty good, though the servers spoke almost no English, which is odd since a great many of the travellers are English speaking. It's rustic, but feels right for a jungle dwelling. Love that name – Jaguar Inn!
Jaguar Inn The area is safe; for those who are not used to the sounds of the jungle are a novelty; especially monkeys howling in the early morning that give the impression of lions. The rooms are fine there is no air conditioning but they have a ceiling fan quite noisy but the tiredness of the walks make you fall exhausted. Beware of the bathroom floor; when they are wet they are extremely slippery. The Light in the week we were there was not gone but we woke up one day without water. Hotel food is the worst in the area. If they ask for drinks, be sure to ask for soda or juice apart from the liquor, because if they bring it together they are mixed and you will have the doubt if you were kicked out or not. You have to meet a driver for the trips because there are no alternative means of transport.
The inn is charming and comfortable. The restaurant meals were tasty and (as expected) a little pricier than the comedores near the visitor center. Carlos, the concierge at the inn was extremely helpful and pleasant. He greeted every guest by name when they entered the lobby, and I was impressed by that. I spent part of one afternoon in our hammock, which was very relaxing.

I like it , but the smell from the bathroom all the time,
