Has a returning guess over the years the hotel needs a little renovation.
Hotel is fine but albeit a bit dated I feel. Not a far walk to some malls and Bund/Nanjing Road. *Not sure if the bar Char is run by hotel but if it is they need a new manager as his attitude is terrible and is the reason I won’t stay again. He pretty much made it his mission to try not let us in bar, even though we were staying guests with friends and also a dinner reservation. He needs a attitude adjustment ASAP
Good and Consistent Option
Excellent location, great service, good room size, delicious breakfast. Rooftop bar with one of the greatest view in Shanghais The Bund!
Excellent location and lovely hotel
The views and amazing
Shanghai on the Bund
Brilliant location, fabulous sized rooms with beds that are like a cloud - slept super well. However, reception was cold and unhelpful, for an international hotel - very little english help. Infact, it was only on the last day that we found out where to get breakfast that we had paid for but never got!
Will NEVER stay there again!
I have been staying at this hotel since it opened. It was my favourite hotel in Shanghai. The location the decor the amenities and service. BUT this trip it completely changed. No paid a high price for the room. I felt like I was in a cheap Chinese motel. They had trays of toothbrushes at reception as there were ZERO amenities in the room. The bed was hard as a rock! The restaurant all Chinese dishes, staff didn’t speak English -!: gave me wrong directions to a site. CHAR was terrible! They forgot how to cook a steak and charged a fortune!
Pool closed
Unfortunately, the pool had been closed for 2 months but we weren't informed prior to our stay. There was a memo at the check-in counter but nobody pointed it out when we checked in so we were left a little disappointed when we turned up at the pool only to find out it has been drained for months.
Research before booking this branch of Indigo
1. The hotel is uniquely located by the river. 2. The hotel is located south of Nanjing East Road. To reach the more scenic part of the Bund, you'll need to walk for about 10min north along the river (it's all concreted along this part). 3. The hotel used to be an office building, therefore, while some rooms (I booked the river view room) have river facing windows the actual surface area of the glass is small and they is obscured by window brackets. Don't expect floor to ceiling panoramic views and don't expect to have a clear view from the bed. I cannot speak for the more expensive rooms though... 4. The breakfast buffet is small and they didn't have baked beans (criminal in my opinion). No egg counter/station. The ready cooked scrambled and fried eggs were terrible. There is an orange presser that you need to use yourself if you want fresh orange juice, other juices were from cartons. The almond croissant was amazing, proper freshly baked pastry that was crispy where it counted and soft on the inside. Choice of cereals was good, including two types of homemade granola (not chunky enough for me though). 5. Access to the hotel by taxi is very convenient. 6. The room itself (sorry for the lack of photos) was nice, especially the bathroom area. The decoration style is classic Chinese and tastefully executed but the sofa has a rigid bamboo back which is not ideal for lounging on. Bathrobes were super soft, towels were not. 7. Check the official website for room photos.
River Views a Plus!
Great hotel and location. Attentive and courteous staff. Gorgeous views of the river!
Good choice if in your price range
Wonderful room much better than the regular hotel rooms. Good location at end of Bund.
The location is great. The room is very clean. The overall lighting tends to be dim. The food choice is below average. But the bar and the view are excellent.
I like proximity to the Bund, the Top floor view...but music inside bar is too loud for conversation.
Great location, on the quiet end Shanghai Old Pier area of the Bund. Best position to view entire Bund and the new Pudong Financial District. The property is kept in a good condition, with adequate amenities, Very good steak restaurant with reasonably priced wine list.. Room are tastefully decorated in “Shanghai Tang” style, quite comfortable overall..
Good! But for the price I think can find something better.
We recommend highly this hotel which is very well located. The rooms are very comforable with amazing view over the river and the Bund. The bar on the 31th floor has an amazing view. The steak restaurant is excellent (quite pricey though) We totally enjoyed our stay at the Indigo hotel.
Amazing hotel in an amazing city
Fabulous hotel with excellent staff. The Quay restaurant was excellent and prices reasonable.Roof top bar was amazing if a little expensive but must be done.Rooms excellent size and immaculately looked after.Surrouning area on the Bumd amazing.Adjacent to the hotel huge underground area with restaurants and shops. They are not signposted so get down those steps or use the lift to explore under the Bind
Great location!
The location of the hotel is right where you want to be, especially if it's your first trip to Shanghai!
Love the view of the city. Love the rooftop bar. Love the stylish room!
Very good hotel to stay and it has got a wonderful view.
Comfort with a view
I always LOVE staying at Hotel Indigo and this visit did not disappoint. The rooms have been revamped and the comfort levels are truly magical. There is nothing like a full view of the river and both the Bund and Lujiazui. The staff are always efficient and helpful.
Great hotel. Staff are helpful and friendly. Walking distance to the Bund.
Excellent. Love the location
Great hotel on the Bund !! You can run from here along the Hangpu river and see old Chinese men run their kites
Chair is shaking, toilet light is blinking
It's very warm and fell like at home to step in the room when all the orange lights on. And the automatic site toilet is wonderful. But there're small tips about the light buttons and water temperature controller. It's difficult to find the right button to close the light in the wall chest and the controller to adjust the temperature of the water which should be done before we check in. And actually we don't need so many lights and have trouble to close them. And for another hiccup, the bedroom is a little small with seperately a bathroom, toilet room, face-washing sink room and a cloakroom. It would be better to open the door without the first sight of the bed.
Well furnished facilities and awesome customer service!
My room was lovely with an absolutely incredible view ruined by an issue with the lights in the room. On the first night at past mindnight when I was already in my pyjamas one set of lights wouldn’t switch off - I tried everything and had to call reception for them to send someone up to deal with it. Someone came and repeatedly pressed the switches and eventually it went off. The following night the same thing happened - again when I was in my pyjamas and ready for bed. Someone had to come up and eventually had to do something in the fuse box to fix a wiring issue. To reach the fuse box they had to move my case off of the case stand sending its neatly packed contents everywhere. No-one really apologised or followed up with the wiring issue or offered to help repack the case.
Truly elegant hotel in a wonderful location with great views. The cost was lower than it would have been in other countries.
The Indigo Shanghai on The Bund is a great Hotel with amazing views over the river and The Bund. It is and easy walk to the metro station, and also A great walk through old shanghai into that you garden and city temple area. Char Bar has great views and drinks, and the breakfast inquiry was outstanding. The pool and workout facilities also share that amazing view. I would definitely stay in this cool, modern but comfortable hotel again.
Quiet Business Hotel by The Bund
Wanted a hotel by the river, which was exactly what we got! However, thats it!! View from our room and bathroom of the river and Pudong was great. But the surrounding was mainly office buildings, dead at night. Very little choice for food, unless you walk to Yu Garden. Hotel though cute, was a little dated. Water pressure in the shower was low. Service was average, nothing to shout about. Overall, good if your meetings are in this area. But if you are a real tourist, its too far from the action. Its on The Bund . . but The Bund is long!! Good if you are a business traveller.
the location is perfect and right at the bund but the room is a little bit small
A ‘no brainer’!
Great hotel and lovely staff!
This is a great hotel with a cool vibe and an amazing view. The rooms are great and the staff is wonderful!
Cool place to stay
Great place to stay on the Bund. It's a little funky on the south end at night. But great location to explore at night. Very hip and modern.
Awesome hotel but a distance to subway
Overall an awesome stay at Hotel Indigo. The only con would be the distance to subway station.
Beautiful view of The Bun
The staff, the restaurant, bar, the rooms all of them were sensacional. Thanks for such an amazing experience.
On the bund
Room os a bit small
Fantastic
Great hotel with great views - we loved our stay here .
Nice place to stay, just don’t eat there
Food was awful.... I order well done burger for room service & came in rare and breakfast I ordered were served cold. If you don’t eat in hotel, all other things are great.
No power outlets for my wife to use her iron or dryer with a mirror. AC only for heating, didn’t cool the room.
Great spot for business stay
Awesome stay, neighborhood great. Service is fine, the rooftop bar is a great spot for an afterwork drink and the gym has an amazing view if you are that way inclined.
Staff issue
Great view from the room if on the right side of this hotel. But big issue with the service, more training is needed. Construction noise while having breakfast in the morning. Very difficult to get taxi.
Great rooms, Okay service & bad food
Still love all deco in room but food in hotel is not matching up to what it use to be... service is bit slow... overall they can use some improvement.
Mini Bar Fridge was loud at Night
Over All it was a good stay, views area amazing, but if you want lots of attractions near by its not the place to walk around to places. Its tucked away in a side of BUND and you would need taxi to go to most places.
Great hotel for runners and business.
Most hotels alongside the Bund have big and majestic lobbies; The Indigo's is small but artfully decorated. I took a picture of one wall's use of large metal sheets and their rivets as something I might use to decorate an office. What the hotel lacks in a spacious lobby is made up elsewhere: There's a rooftop bar and plenty of space inside and out for meetings or just relaxing. I paid a little extra for a corner room on a high floor and loved the view. No A/C in March on a warm day (same as most other hotels), but the windows open and I got a fan delivered to my room. That was sufficient. I'm a runner and love the location at the far south end of the Bund's track. It is just short of 3 miles to run to the end and back. Small but good gym with weights and good equipment. Will stay again in future.
didnt live up to its price
hotel was boutique style and new, but its quite small, rooms and bathrooms are really small. bottom line is: it wasn't worth the price it asked for. it was on the bund but unless you pay another US$100, u wont get the bund view bigger room, so the price is quite ridiculous. I wont return unfortunately. if i'd pay that, ill stay at Waldorf at the Bund, a premium hotel in a historic building right on the bund.
Hotel by the bund, nice bar and restaurant.
Spent 2 nights in this hotel and it's fun, not only I got previlege to get a table in both the bar and restaurant, also enjoyed the view overlooking the river, overall very comfy but facilities sometimes get a bit worn out. A def 4.5 stars rating from me.
Hotel Guests from Singapore
Stayed in this hotel in 2013, and back this year on a leisure and business trip. To our BIG disappointment, the hotel's standard drops drastically, particularly the unease decor at the Quay, where chairs are seen in odd match of colors and designs. Food presentation lacks creativity, not to mention the odd Japanese and Western cuisines delivered NOT in its original style and taste. Coming again in the future, we may have second thoughts though we love the surrounding environment ...
Beautiful hotel Very foreign friendly
Amazing experience. Staff could not have been more helpful and friendly.
nice hotel and pleasant stay .
the room is great with ans the Shanghai feeling very retro However outside room the cirridor
Best location in Shanghai, great view/service/room
Always stay here when in Shanghai. Hotel is very cool decor, service excellent. View from executive suite panoramic of both sides of the Bung. Great breakfast. Room is very comfortable, terrific WiFi, great breakfast. Stayed here every year for the past 7, wouldn't stay anywhere else.
Fabulous Indigo
Great Area, great beautiful hotel with special touches
Awesome hotel right on bund
Loved hotel indigo - from the location to decor and amenities. Beautiful design, amazing views and helpful , accommodating staff. Location puts you right on bund for stroll or run. Yu Garden is short walk. Would def stay here Again on future Shanghai trip and highly recommend.
Fantastic hotel & rooftop bar in great location
Loved our 6 night stay. Hotel (like its HK counterpart) differs from the usual - a little edgy in design. Staff were unfailingly helpful, special treatment for my 50th was so generous. Within walking distance to the old part of town, & Yu Gardens, Nanjing Rd and lovely to stroll the Bund. Easy taxi to French Concession etc. Only comment breakfast was always lukewarm (buffet & when ordered). Overall a wonderful experience, will definitely stay again & recommend.
Great stay at the Indigo
Second visit to the hotel Indigo on the bund and still as great as before. Staff very attentive, fab location on the bund, great views if you get a room on the Hungpu riverside. Excellent char bar with awesome views outside, great char grill and quay restaurant. Only minor downside is hotel starting to show some wear in some areas and needing a bit of tlc, wooden blinds in shower with peeling paint etc but maybe it's just shabby chic and I'm not cool enough. One other point, limited complimentary bottled water in rooms and once that runs out you have to use expensive Fiji minibar water until next day when room serviced, as room guide advises tap water not suitable to drink. Would be a nice touch to offer additional complimentary bottled water top up note in room as limited cost to hotel. I'm sure some people just call up and ask for it, but good idea to openly offer.
Uniquely pleasant ambiance with GREAT service!
Great place
Thanks
Love lost
This was our third stay at Hotel Indigo on the Bund. We were there at the time when the hotel celebrated its 5th year of operation. The years seem to have taken a toll, and we this time experienced the hotel as a bit more 'worn', the rooms as less fresh, and the staff as providing a little less service. Unfortunately the place seems to have lost some of its magic qualities that have made us return. It may have been our last stay.
Great hotel in a good location
I would definitely recommend staying at here on a trip to Shanghai. Great location on the Bund, lovely views from the hotel bar. Rooms are very comfortable. Lovely bathrooms, good decor. I would stay again and recommend.
Great view but average services
Sendo restaurant on the 3F was terrible. Hotel lobby manager's service when checking in was as average as the rooftop lounge manager. The room was very comfortable and the indoor pool comes with a great view of the bund.
Outstanding Stay
This is a rave review. Hotel Indigo was great! I had a wonderful room overlooking the river and Pudong. The CharBar is fantastic for a drink. The location on the South end of the Bund is a bit quieter. Quick walk to Old Shanghai area (but not close to any metro stops). I liked everything about the hotel.
Unique Hotel with Excellent Bund Views
Have stayed here numerous times now. Never disappointed, excellent service in the hotel and restaurants. Views of the Bund and the Pudong side are amazing. A walk along the Bund riverfront in the early morning is a must to see all the interesting exercising and kite flying. You will not be disappointed if you stay here!
Excellent boutique hotel, beautiful view, if you get the corner room. Location is excellent, right on the Bund.
Super styled hotel
Stayed for a week on business rooms great staff nice, helpful. Char restaurant very good if a little expensive. Two complaints .. The wifi terrible... And if bar closes its hard to get a room service drink!
Perfect location on the Bund
We were meeting some friends from Suzhou for the weekend and they suggested the Indigo. It was very well-kept, attentive staff, and a fantastic view of the Shanghai skyline from the west side of the river. We've never been fans of hotel restaurants, but breakfast was great - some of the best eggs benedict I've ever had. Fitness center was good for China and it overlooked the river and the skyline. We did not try the pool but it looked fine. The location is just south of the downtown ferry/MTR station, directly across the river from the Shanghai tower. Maybe a ten minute walk from Yu Garden. Staff was helpful and communicative (I am limited to English). Good value.
SUPERB FACILITIES INCLUDING A WIDE RANGE OF RESTAURANTS ,IN ROOM EXTRAS SUCH AS THE YUNNAN GROUND COFFEE AND TEA AND WHITE RABBIT SWEETS COMPLIMENTARY ,STAFF SPEAK EXCELLENT ENGLISH AND ARE VERY WELCOMING GYM AND POOL VERY GOOD BUT BE CAREFUL NOT TO FALL FOR THE CHINESE TEA CEREMONY SCAM AT THE NEARBY YU GARDEN AREA IF YOU VISIT
Horrible hotel service!did not make up to me due they devileried bad fruit on breakfast.after all I returned they fruit, they still charged me.never go back
A hotel to remember
A really delightful hotel in a really delightful location on The Bund. Stylish, quirky, lovely room, huge shower with floor to ceiling window so you can survey the city from on high during your ablutions, very comfortable, and the service gets eleven out of ten. Not the cheapest but worth every penny.
5stars
Room is very clean and comfortable. Will stay next time in Shanghai.
Great Shanghai city trip
Great location close to Bund, Cool Docks and sightseeing Hotel decor beautiful and very clean and Rooftop bar amazing !!! Hotel restaurants too pricey but Cool Docks close by so not an issue
Great Hotel, worth the money
very pleasant stay. facility is great. hotel is in excellent location, will definitely re-visit if in Shanghai next time
Nice hotel!
The hotel was well maintained with attentive staffs. The design of the room is very lovely with a touch of "east mix west". I didn't realise that the room with river view does not come with a bathtub or I would have chosen one room with that. Breakfast comes with quite some choices and you can enjoy it with a very nice view of the bund and the pudong area. The location of the hotel is at the very end of the bund but if you do not mind a bit of walking (say 15-20 mins), it was actually quite convenient as it seats between the bund and Yuyuan Garden. The only downside is that taxi driver do not seem to know this place much so you may have to ask for shiliupu pier or dongmenlu instead.
style over substance
Nice enough hotel just not set up for much more than a photo shoot. Desk area, chairs, impractical for doing anything. Computers in Common areas unusable. wifi just terrible.
#1 on my list!
This was my favorite hotel EVER! Everything was amazing and I didn't want to leave! I felt like I was in my own trendy apartment. The decor was all about the local artists. Paintings, brick walls, and a surrounding view of the Bund that was amazing at night. The bed was comfortable and the room was very spacious. There was a great rooftop bar Char that I would recommend to relax and unwind. There was a library and a cool internet cafe that had pods to work in. The hotel is walking distance to the ferry terminal, the fabric market and Old Shanghai- Yu Gardens. I have already recommended to my traveling friends to stay here. You will not be disappointed!
Personality on the Bund
Personality! The Hotel Indigo has personality, a chic young clientele, and a location right on the Bund. The walk directly out to the Bund gets a 5. It's a little hard to get elsewhere, though. I had been interested in extending my stay by 2 days, and asked the concierge for their best price. He told me the price fluctuates, which is true but not helpful, so I booked elsewhere. Attention: there is free wifi throughout the hotel (good!), so there is no need to pay the surcharge hotels.com levies for wifi in your room (bad!!!).
Good location close to everything
The room I first have got leaking air condition. After I report, the manager upgrade the room for me immediately and the room is very comfort. But Front desk need more staff, wait for a long time to be serviced
Rude and self-serving staff
During my short stay I had interaction with 7 hotel staff. 6 out of the 7 were rude and really not interested in doing there job. The bar staff was some of the rudest people I have even met. It was like they could care less about your experience in the hotel.
Nice location
nice location, right on the bank of Bund (Yongzi River), nice view of the room and from the bar at the top floor
Wonderful hotel in a great location.
The staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was warm and inviting with attention to detail. We liked the interesting decor We went for breakfast every day in the dinning room with the views of the city and river. It was a very nice full buffet breakfast with specialty dishes made to order.
Art - Design and a view
Beautiful design hotel with incredible views of the bund and skyline, which is enhanced by the restaurant and bar on the upper floors. The rooms are big comfortable and well laid out. The location is not in the middle of everything just slightly private which is nice in the big city, but a slight walk to connect to other things. Definitely recommend the hotel
Too hot to handle! Won't stay here again.
The décor was great, and it was very clean. The people were friendly and very eager to please you. The problem is that I usually do not spend so much money on a hotel, and this hotel just proves that yet, I made another mistake booking a higher end hotel. While the bed was great, it didn't matter because the room was so hot! They turn off all the air conditioner in the winter, which is fine. I can completely support that. However, you cannot open the window!!! Thus, for the whole evening, we were suffocating in the room with no air flow along with being hot and sweaty. I've been more comfortable at 7 Days Inn! I hate to be harsh but when you do pay so much more, you really expect to not sweat to death at least! I've learned my lesson.
Magnificent Hotel
A stop-over on the way home from a business trip to a cold part of China. Very welcoming, wonderful rooms, 10 star shower, especially as I had no hot water for the previous week, great restaurant and innovative breakfast. The view at night from the bar is without a doubt, breathtaking. As Arnie said "I'll be back". Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough
Hotel with an amazing view
We had a happy time after a bad start with a taxi driver. Staff were excellent from the moment we arrived. Good Gym and pool and nice attendants. The view from the bar upstairs is breathtaking and may be the best in Shanghai.
Very nice hotel
Hotel is very nice and staff was nice as well. No real complaints. The char bar is fantastic. Great view with great bartenders. Only reason it is not a 5 rating is about every other time we wanted a taxi we had to catch the attention of the staff that were standing beside us. If I'm outside and just standing there. I shouldn't have to grab anyone's attention. I should be asked what I need. Minor point on service but a difference between 4 and 5 rating. Lovely hotel and will look into brand in other cities.
NICE BOUTIQUE HOTEL
First stay at this hotel, very trendy and well located, room given was very dissapointing, small and facing a construction site. It was very comfortable though and bed was very comfortable. For China and the price the value was very average. But the hotel was clean. Breakfast was good
Beautiful and imaginative boutique hotel
Wonderful hotel. If you're bored of corporate bland hotels that could be in Atlanta or Manchester or Brussels then this is the place to go. So imaginative, lovely design and great little quirks. And no lack of room features. Super friendly too. It isn't a huge hotel so you won't have 5 restaurants to choose from. But the Char restaurant is almost Michelin star quality. Good location on the end of the Bund and 10 mins walk from the Yu Yuan gardens. Fab view from the trendy rooftop bar.
Location, view, service, the best!
Beatiful room, wonderful service, excellent food. I travel 3-4 times a year to China, making Shanghai my base city and make a point of staying at least 2-3 nights.
Great place and location, perfect rooms, wonderful view, awesome breakfast.
Very comfortable amazing views great position
The manager is always around no wonder everything runs so well amazing hotel will highly recommend stay fantastic Service views great hotel
Great design
Really cool hotel in Shanghai, great design mixing Asian themes with art deco styling. Room was fantastic. Service was just good...not as good as other hotels. But this is a trendy place (and its well deserved), i think they are drinking a bit of their own kool aide. While the view is fantastic, the neighborhood around the hotel is not filled with shopping or restaurants. I noticed they are building a huge office complex across the street so this will change in years to come. In the hyper competitive, there's always something new, Shanghai hotel market, i would definitely consider returning. Its one of the top 5 hotels in Shanghai at this moment.
Coolest Hotel in Shanghai
Amazing place. If you are looking for traditional this is not it...but its got a great vibe (a bit like the W hotels in the US..) excellent service and amazing bed sheets and view. Would not think of going anywhere else. Sad to leave..
THE place to see Shanghai from
This is a great hotel from which to see Shanghai, both from its own rook top bar as well as the perfect central location on the Bund plus it's a great placer to relax in when all that visiting is done!
good service
by request
Great location on the Bund overlooking the river
Great rooftop bar and spectacular close up views of the Bund, river and Pudong skyline. Good sized rooms, with good quality and interesting decor.
Facilities: Top of the line; Value: Affordable;
Stunning
We upgraded to a river view room and were stunned by the beautiful view when we entered the room. The staff was always helpful. I had a minor problem and the manager was very responsive, and I underline "very." The dining room had good food and a beautiful view too. Rick
Great hotel to stay with
The hotel helped me to the hospital when i was sick, they did really great job, and took care of me all the time. The River View room is good, you can watch the nightlight in the room which i enjoy the most.
Eclectic with a view
Very tasteful decor. Location is a ways away from the city center but cabs are relatively cheap. The view from our room alone was worth every penny.
Hotel Indigo Shanghai on The Bund by IHG | Hotel in Shanghai | Travala.com
We stayed one night. Overall great experience. Great location. Minutes walk to the Bund. Across street from the financial center and 15 minutes to Yu Garden. Staff were professional and helpful. The restaurant had a great view and food was very delicious. A nice gym facing the bund. The room is clean; although a bit old. However, the bathroom is very spacious.
