The property was great, as was the price, just didn't like that our view was of scaffolding.
Great overall experience and very friendly staff
Our stay here was great. Other than the construction that was going on right oustide our window. Other than that we had a wonderful stay, the pool was fun and we loved the restaurant that is in house.
Great location and value
Very good place to stay, close to everything, nice clean room
it was alright
Great place, convenient location
Great place to stay in heart of Halifax!
The staff were very friendly, accommodating and sympathetic. The hotel lobby connected to scotia center and it was central to our activities. Some plates in the weight room are broken. Decent free weights and good mats for stretching.
I enjoyed the reasonably priced breakfast.
Enjoyable stay. NO issues
My son and I went to the pool and there were a bunch of noisy kids there and the parents were close by and didn’t tell them to be quiet. We left about 20 minutes later cause of the noise. We went back later to the gym (around 9) and the same kids were in the pool again, as well as 2 of them were in the weight room unsupervised and turned the treadmill up full and put a shoe on it more than once to see how fast it would go. They eventually left. While we were in our room, for about an hour there were kids running and yelling up and down the hallway. And I didn’t hear one adult tell them to be quiet there cause people could be sleeping. I know we take our chances when we stay anywheres, but this was the loudest it’s ever been when we have stayed at a hotel. I have stayed at the hotel Halifax a few times before and have never had any issues, staff is always friendly, and things are close by to go see and do and eat. I will be back in the future.
Easy to deal with. Quick to solve problems with scheduling issues!
Under renovation during stay therefore only reason for slightly lower rating but no issues returning once complete
The elevator noise. The tarp around windows.
My parents stayed and said it was a wonderful experience and everyone was helpful.
Very disappointing!
Paid extra to have a room with a view. Couldn’t even open curtains because of construction there was scaffolding right outside the window and view was completely blocked. Parking sign for handicap parking was turned backwards so couldn’t see it when in parking lot. No housekeeping services even though I asked. First time I asked the housekeeping person came up and did bathroom then did bed while wearing the same gloves! Carpet in room was grimy and patched in areas. Took forever to get hot water in the shower
Prior to checking in we received an email stating property was undergoing renovation and we may notice some construction. That was a HUGE understatement. The entire building was covered in scaffolding and tarps. We had no view aside from a white tarp. Construction started at 8am and was the constant sound of drilling, so loud it was if you were at the dentist. The condition of the room was poor, peeling wallpaper, frayed curtains, an overused sagging couch. The bed was comfortable. But the rooms should be severely discounted until renovations are complete. The pool area looked as though it hadn’t been deep cleaned in a long time. No garbage or major dirt, just the appearance of a lot of neglect over a long period. Rusty puddles around garbage can. I would not return. The desk staff were polite. A small bonus
Staff and amenities in room for price was great. The site is undergoing renovations and parking is pretty terrible and should be included with every room. We also travelled with a pet and while staff etc was great, the options for pet friendly spaces for #1 and #2 were non existent, and if there was a space it wasn’t posted and not told to us. If the parking becomes better and they include breakfast I would stay again but most likely we would stay outside of town next time for better value and ease of transport.
Even though early morning renovations can be a little noisy, this hotel stay was awesome! 3 great days here, as it's very close to everything you need in Halifax, by the water. Staff was amazing. Thank you.
Understood that the hotel was under renovations, and they advised there would be lots of noise from 8:30 to 5 every day. Was okay with that as I was planning to leave hotel by 9 each morning. 8:30 actually had as 7:15 banging and noisy equipment, and people walking by my 3rd floor window room on scaffolding, BIG difference between 7 am and 8:30 am!!
Great staff, awesome shower head, great tv comfy bed
Friendly staff. Great area. Quiet. Undergoing Renos but was quiet and clean.
The hotel is under renovation and there was no mention of this on Expedia when I booked. We had no access to balcony as a result. I got emails immediately after booking and my first concern was the pool wouldn’t be open, which was the only reason we booked them. I called and fortunately it wasn’t affected by the renos, but they should’ve noted this so people are aware before booking. No microwave in room. Water station in lobby was Out of Order.
It was under Reno’s which we knew however , there was way more Reno’s than expected
Great staff easy to park and having the convenience of shopping and restauraunts attached.
Loved the spacious room and big bed as well as couch in the room. Will definitely come back with the family next time.
With all the renovations, the staff made it very comfortable
I was there for a drs appointment and I called about a hospital rate and was quoted 129 a night when I booked through Expedia at a better rate I asked about the parking fee discount and was told because I booked through Expedia there was no discount when I asked the front desk person about it his exact words where I would never use Expedia my reply was the money o saved paid for my parking . I am sure a lot of people use this app but the response I got was uncalled for and unwarranted.
The staff was great and very helpful
Very comfortable room nice and relaxing
Staff are holding the place together.
The room was clean and the bed was super comfortable. Staff were truly awesome but there were a lot of problems: No hot water in the shower when I checked in. It was fixed quickly. Front desk and maintenance were really friendly. Only working ice machine is on third floor Only working water station is on the first floor Outlet for the coffee maker wasn’t working. Wall switches and plates were cracked and/or broken. Furniture was worn and stained.
No big issues with the hotel. It is renovating so a few inconveniences
The staff are very friendly and personable. The location is great, lots of things to see and do nearby.
The pool was perfect, great for lap swimming, and warm too. The property is under renovation so a little noisy. Will be nice when finished.
Place was good access wise. But there is only paid parling available which is 26$ per day and the rooms are not that great lookwise as well as ambience. The housekeeping is not that great as well as the bed.But its accessibility to the nearest mall is what makes it stand out.You can go to the mall without even getting out of the building .
Great
We like the property and staff, however, there was an issue at check-in. We do not own a credit card, but we do own a debit visa card. I booked the room with my debit visa, and at checkin we willingly gave the hotel the 250 deposit. They were not going to allow us to rent the room without a credit card and that makes no sense to us at all. Not everyone wants or can have a credit card, and if thats the case then i shouldnt be able to book online with my visa debit card. My husband showed them that he read it was accepted ( visa debit) and they allowed us to stay. I dont understand why a person HAS to have a credit card when you are paying the full amount plus a w50 deposit upon checkin
Renovation going on so there was some noise but we knew that was the case.
I love everything about Hotel Halifax. It’s quaint and inviting
The construction was very loud.
Hotel was under renovation so windows and patios were blanked off. Couldn’t enjoy the view and was always dark. Hotel management said that Expedia should have informed me but don’t seem to see any message coming. Breakfast wasn’t included. Paid too much for below average experience. Never coming back.
It was just OK
We had a lovely one-night stay at Hotel Halifax after the Collective Soul and Our Lady peace concert at the Scotiabank centre. The walk was extremely convenient and short, which was awesome after a few drinks and a long night of music and dancing! We had an overall fantastic stay. They are under construction at the moment, but it honestly was not a big deal. We only heard them briefly in the morning before check-out.
Fabulous customer service, our room wasn’t ready when we arrived at 4pm and was offered an upgrade!
It was very close for walking around Halifax
Great!
I like it’s location.
It's a decent enough hotel with little to complain about. Staff is always on it, rooms are clean. Just beware that if you're booking through a 3rd party (e.g. Expedia), that the prices are deceptively competitive. This is because Expedia isn't great at communicating about things like parking fees ($25/day) and pet fees ($35).
I was aware and informed there would be construction happening during my stay , although nobody mentioned our windows to outside was goin to be covered and construction worked right outside the window . Very much invasion of privacy . Had to set alarm for early morning to get up before workers were back in the window.. noise and vibration was so loud islt scared my toddler and flakes were falling off the ceiling. As i mentioned i was told construction was happening but not to the extent it was . Desk staff was very polite and restuant was amazing but way over priced
Staff were very friendly and our room was clean. The elevator malfunctioned a couple times and i didnt get my free parking perk but other than that we enjoyed our stay.
We had a wonderful time at the Hotel. Staff was very hospitable
This property was under renovation and should have been closed. After I booked I received a notice from the hotel it would be under renovations. What I did not know was that I would be woken up at approximately 7:30am everyday with construction so loud you couldn't even hear the TV. I attempted to address this issue with the front desk and they told me this is a me problem and if it didn't like it to leave and get Expedia to refund me. After I explained that it would take a while to get my money back from Expedia and then book another hotel day of would cost much more the desk clerk said so there are your options you can do that or live with it. I was attempting to see if I could get Mo Ed to a room with less noise or something and explained that I am on vacation and would like to sleep in. There was zero care from the staff and the best moment is after all this, I said so basically what you are telling me is the hotel Halifax doesn't care and is telling me to F*** myself and the desk clerk replied pretty much yes. I have worked and managed hotels and stayed at many I have never been treated like this in my life. DO NOT STAY HERE.
Renovations
It was great until you're woken up at 830 by construction after having a late night and was planning on sleeping in. It sounded like someone was going to come through our wall on the 4th floor. Overall, the place was great!
When we booked, we were not aware of the hotel going through renovations until advised by the hotel later by email. Should have been noted in the Hotel.com listing. Construction started at 8 am sharp and was quite loud. Very disappointed. If we would have known in advance, we would have booked elsewhere.
Nice stay
No paid parking available. Windows boarded up. Dark. Noisy.

Room fridge barely worked, TV wouldn’t change channels after midnight. Restaurant has limited hours, wouldn’t call it a pub as it closes at 10pm and isn’t open during the afternoon. Thankfully lots close by if you want to enjoy a refreshment mid day or after dinner. Casino is close and can be accessed without walking outside.
Restaurants not open when supposed to, told us about renovations right before check in. Staff not friendly.
We really enjoyed that you could walk to the Scotia Center through the mall and not even have to go outside. But it could of used more signage to show you where to go. Also parking is extra!!
View of the harbour.
Beds were comfy, rooms very dated. Wallpaper peeling off walls, window bored up with plywood due to construction.
Great stay with the kids and friends. Very accommodating. Although they were very up front about the renos at the hotel, they made sure to reiterate it and make our stay very comfortable
Close to downtown scene
It was great. Reno’s going on in the hotel on our last day, directly above our room. Other than that it was a great stay
Wonderful place! Surprised us and upgraded our room to a king free of charge .
We enjoyed our stay
We didn’t have a long stay, and were given lots of notice about the noise due to construction, however we were long gone in the morning before it started!
It was nice and close to the Scotia centre
Location friendly staff clean
Overall, we had a really great stay and so we would definitely recommend. I would not hesitate in booking again. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly, beds were so comfortable (major plus), rooms were clean, spacious and well laid out. One of our suites was slightly dated compared to the other, but honestly, that was not a problem. Half our party got the slightly noisier end of the corridor and a room with quite thin walls while the other room was lovely and quiet. While staff are very attentive to guest needs and requests (thank you) it would be nice to not have to keep asking for basics such as cutlery, mugs and a kettle. These probably could be provided as standard as the suite includes a kitchenette (that was our only bug-bear). Breakfast was fine although some items are chargeable (sausages) and I would advise going across the road to Steve-o-Renos if you’re after for a great cup of coffee. There are facilities for doing own laundry (cheaply), a tuck shop and free bureau facility for printing boarding passes etc which was much appreciated. Location is great, within walking distance of harbour front, restaurants, shopping and Scotiabank Centre. We really enjoyed our stay here, so as first time visitors to Halifax you have a big thumbs up from us. Thank you Cambridge Suites staff, for your very kind hospitality.
Nice place in the heart of Halifax
Construction on site was loud
Property under renovations but very little problem or disruption. Staff are always excellent.
Close to everything and vey walkable
Good
Check in process was simple, parking available, comfy bed.
Nice friendly staff
Good place to stay. One issue is that you can hear the elevator hydraulics all the time. Doesnt matter what room. Day and night.
Always liked the hotel because of it proximity to the waterfront, shopping and food. Walkability to many areas of the downtown is great. The rooms are fine and clean. Hotel has been favorite of mine for many years when wanting to be downtown for sporting events and concerts.
Great place to stay. Highly recommend!
This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel and both times have been a great experience. It is so close to everything it is so convenient. I really hope the prices don’t increase drastically once it has its makeover. I really like this hotel.
Halifax Hotel did a good job of keeping us comfortable during renovations. This is an older hotel undergoing some upgrades. Beds were very comfortable, location was great and staff friendly. Would stay again
The motel is in a great location, everything you need is near. They are under renovations so there is lots of noise. It’s going to be very nice when complete
The hotel was well staffed and at a great location in Halifax allowing walkable distance to nearly all attractions and amenities. The property is under construction and the wallpaper in the room was starting to peal from the wall. They are working on it. So overall good rating.
Rooms are very dated
Renovation happening so there was noise but that can’t be helped. Otherwise a fine hotel with great staff.
It’s not appreciate having to pay for parking
Good but room heat is too cold
Under reno st the time
staff were super helpful, rooms are clean & comfortable
The best stay at an excellent price!
Wonderful stay
Great place close to lots downtown. Will be even better after Reno’s, our go to place
Room is not warm during night
The hotel was outdated and under renovation during a weekday. it was noisy because of the reno before checking out on Monday; it was no construction during weekend. Also, the room temperature was still not warm although I set up the highest setting on the thermostat. The good things are to provide you with a free parking when you has a certain membership of 3rd parties and spacious room. The staff are good and gave me free upgrade to Kingsize room.
We always book this hotel!! Classy. Old style. Perfect clean. Stuff is so professional and polite! Doesn’t get any better!
It was gross
all good
