Beautiful hotel and location but undergoing renovation so all public areas and restaurants/bars are closed

Renovation

I am sure it is normally a nice hotel but it was under construction and this fact wasn’t clear when booking. A rendering of what the “new lobby” will look like after the renovation!

Nice place but bring your own soap

Would have been nice to know it was under renovations. Also there was no body soap in the room just hand soap. Super nice place when it’s all running but this trip was a let down.

The place was under construction. Which I did not know. I have stayed there before and it was an excellent experience.. great place. Wish I would have known before. Still a good stay. Will still come back back

We love the Granduca. The ongoing construction is hard but we know it will make the property better. I feel and hope the entrance and the new valet group are as great as the previous ones. The always familiar valet always remembered my mom and helped her inside with her luggage. It's the extra things that matter!

I usually stay here because I like that they have a restaurant / bar in the hotel so i dont have to go out at night. However, it was under construction and was not made aware of that until i arrived. I do think once the construction is done it will be great. The staff was lovely.

No longer Gran

We have stayed at this hotel many times over the years on our regular visits to Houston, but this will be the last time. The hotel is undergoing major renovation and has been sold. All services were crammed into one small space and only the service elevator worked. Guests make their way down a back service corridor to find the elevator. No food service was available from the hotel and the only bar was the vestibule for the former restaurant. Despite the inconvenience and lack of all services, we were charged the full price for the former luxury boutique hotel. No advance notice of the construction or limited services was provided.

Horrible during construction.

Right after my booking became nonrefundable, the hotel sent an email saying that construction is happening in the hotel and that the restaurant would be closed. Turns out the construction is massive. It woke me up every morning hours before my alarm, there was banging all day. The pool is closed off from the hotel and requires a several minute walk outside to get to. There were guys saying wood and working right next to the pool deck and hauling wood and other materials. Dreadful stay at a usually very good hotel.

Great property but hindered by the ongoing construction

It was under construction with nothing available to us only an elevator to the room. Not a bathroom not food notbing. Freezing hotel 0 customer service. They rmailed me about the construction 1 night before o arrived. Bad customer service. I would have never stayed therebfor the rates they charge if i knew this. The room was not clean and old. they skipped servicimg my room just because i was still in it at 9 am. They never came back.

Under construction

Hotel is under major renovations/ construction. Charging an exprbant rate a night is ridiculous for just a room with no restaurant/bar/lounge area/lobby. Only 1 elevator working so takes forever to get to your room. We respectfully did not stay and got a refund. Very kind staff and not their fault so I feel bad for them having to work in these conditions.

The staff is very nice but the hotel is under construction and that would have been nice to know when I booked. I had no idea until I arrived.

Hotel did not disclose that it was doing a major remodel until 48 hours before checkin and too late to change the reservation. Not impressed. Restaurant was excellent.

The hotel is undergoing renovations which were not made known PRIOR to booking or arrival. Amenities that contribute to higher hotel star ratings were not available. However, despite this we were stll charged premium rates from Hotels.com and the Hotel Granduca had similar rates. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable. According to staff, renovation is supposed to conclude by early December. Would stay again AFTER renovations. But definitely not worth the rate per night right now.

Our second home! Alicia is amazing!

We love The Granduca! It is our home away from home! When you check in ask for Alica!! She is the best! She will calmly and patently take care of you. This stay we had an unfortunate check in when Thu interrupted and abruptly told us there were no other rooms. Thu is not for everyone. We got a room after I had to point out that I had just seen my friend release her two rooms.All the staff is so warm and friendly.

Hotel Granduca is an outstanding hotel in a great location!

First Class accommodations!

Not living up to the standards it once enjoyed

The concept for this hotel is wonderful. It’s a peaceful respite from the hustle and frenetic pace of the big city. The location is great. Easy access to the Galleria, Rice Village, MFA and even downtown for theaters. After a full day of shopping, museums, and whatever you enjoy, it’s great to return to the tree lines streets and tranquil setting of the Granducca. However, the deferred maintenance and lack of attention to the property means they are charging rates based on the hotel it once was and not the hotel owners have allowed it to become. What a shame.

UNFORTUNATELY A THUNDERSTORM BROKE THE HOTEL ENERGY AND WATER SO WE HAD TO CHECKOUT AFTER THE FIRST NIGHT.

Great property that could benefit from a few updates

Would stay here again. Our room was very nice, beds were comfortable!

Property seemed a little dated. Poor technology. Television had no signal half the time. Had to pay $30 for self parking on the surface lot. Doormen were great.

It is gorgeous. You don’t know that you’re in Houston at this hotel. The staff go above and beyond to make your stay special. Our room was really nice with lots of room and comfort.

Wonderful place. The room I was large and very comfortable. A small thing is that it could have used a light upgrade, with more outlets and computer and phone charging ports on the bedside table. But very roomy, clean and elegant. A favorite in Houston.

Stay at the Grandduca!

Excellent is not superlative enough to describe the Granduca in Houston. It is wonderful in every way. The Valet was great and took care of the car and luggage without a hitch. The check in was equally easy and made delightful by a charming, young woman who had just come to the US. The restaurant was also very special with most excellent service. The room was especially large and extremely comfortable. Every amenity one could wish for was there. Superlative in every way. I will be back at the Granduca the next time I visit Houston.

What a fantastic place to stay! It is our third time and we can’t wait to return. The restaurant is amazing and service staff is fantastic.

Excellent private hotel in uptown galleria

Food is great property has alot of character. Staff is very friendly and attentive.

No self parking for free. Valet attendants very nice and helpful. Front desk attendant hard to understand her accent and was not very friendly. Very nice room. Only one bar of soap for bathroom (need one each for shower and sink). Nice bathrobes. Lamp next to bed would not turn off unless you use the light switch by the door. Then have to find bed in the dark. Did not like that.

Terrific service

No full length mirror, dated furniture, thermostat set on one temperature, stuffy room, loud party by pool until midnight 1st night I checked in. Over priced!

Unhappy Stay

For the five star hotel, I was a little disappointed and having no icebox to put food or drink in in the room. There was no chocolates on the bed TV did not work. They wouldn’t move me to a room. They gave me a new remote TV work for 30 minutes then no longer, just disappointing for a five star hotel not like others I’ve stayed at The billiard room was messy pool table was dirty chipped up. This was disappointing for an avid pool player.

Wyatt was great and very professional. This is the first hotel I've ever been to that actually looks like the pictures. The traditional suite was nice and roomy. Me and my husband will definitely be back.

Great location, outdated amenities, Old smell in the hallways room are accessible, yet Sheets are rough towels are extremely dry and scratchy. Perhaps they could use some softener in the water in order to create a comfort. I will not recommend the price I payed.

Checkin was messed up. Paid extra for room with balcony, but was sent to two different rooms without balcony. They tried to charge me for upgrade to balcony even though I already paid that. Finally a manager stepped in and fixed everything on third try. What a hassle though.

Hotel Granduca is grand!

We were very pleased with our stay. The jr. suite was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. It was very quiet and the location was perfect with easy access to everything we had planned. The staff were all very friendly, warm and helpful. This is definitely a wonderful place to stay.

If U want old, this place is for you.

This place is billed as 5 star. U wouldn't know it from looking at it. The place is in dire need of an update. The entire property looks like nothing new has been done to it since it opened. The rms r nothing special. Very old furniture & carpeting in them. I will say the bed (w/ my topper on it) was comfortable. The rm was quiet & there were ppl availabe if U needed something. If you're looking for something modern, go somewhere else. This place looks ancient. Wouldn't recommend it & wouldn't go back. The help was friendly tho.

Went for a birthday outing and a little R&R. Felt as if we were back in Italy. Everything from the courtyard, gym, bar, dining at ALBA were off the charts. Looking forward to our next visit.

Great hotel.

Quiet and comfy.

Excellent location for entire Galleria area, yet in a secluded pocket that is comforting and inviting. This is not your multi-story mega hotel, which can often be a plus. Pleasant staff. One note to management, keep the old world ambiance, but consider a little refresh on cabinets and possibly a lighter interior repaint. Complacency in this area can catch up to you in time.

Location is great and they have a car and drive to go in a 3mile radius which is very helpful. It needs an update...rooms are very dated and dark

Great Hotel in Houston

Alba’s restaurant was a wonderful experience. A must to return. Alicia and the support staff was amazing. The chef was amazing too.

Was a beautiful room, with living room, kitchen, stove, and dishwasher. Everything you need to be comfortable even working from the room and having dining options and Shopping nearby

Hotel is very beautiful. Room was cozy and very well decorated. Room was clean and nice. Bathroom was very convenient and clean. Room has bar sofa two arms chairs and tv. Bedroom is separated. It’s very nice kitchen area. Pool and bar areas are very beautiful. Food and cocktails are very tasty. People who work there are very supportive and nice. Thank you dear hotel.

The service at the hotel was excellent. I was shocked though at the decor in the room and how worn and dated it looked. It felt like walking into my grandmother's living room. The space was comfortable but very unappealing visually. I also had hoped to have some quiet time by the pool and thought a hotel like that would not be overrun by children. Definitely was wrong about that. Several children having a cannonball contest for more than 30 minutes. Hotel staff did not ask them to stop jumping in the pool and the parents were clueless.

Beautifully traditional in the Italian style and scores well on most everything except for furnishings and built-ins that need staining touch ups in a lot of places. This would be so easy and at minimal cost.

Best European Hospitality

The hotel staff was wonderful and the restaurant and bar were absolutely amazing. Every day between one and three, they have high tea and their high tea is absolutely perfection. You have to make reservations 24 hours in advance because they prepare the sandwiches and pastries for that particular reservation. Margherita at the front desk was the best not only front desk but also as a Concierge.

Hotel itself is nice and check in staff was friendly and quick. There’s self parking, really good food, the ambience is nice…however, the service was not great. The service made the hotel experience disappointing. We were overlooked by restaurant/bar staff multiple times. Bartender was taking drink orders at the pool….never acknowledged us. When we finally walked inside the hotel to order directly from the bar….staff asked my friend for her drink order and didn’t ask us what we wanted. Took about 40 min to get them to make 3 drinks. We dined twice at the restaurant and both experiences were underwhelming. Food was good but we had to ask for basic things like salt, ketchup…. and never got it. There’s no hostess for the restaurant- you have to awkwardly stand there and wait for someone to acknowledge you to get seated….which took long because the restaurant staff seem to have blinders on. Was the hotel nice? Yes. Would I recommend the hotel? Never. The worst part was that it was a girls stay for my bday- horrible.

This hotel was clean and comfortable. I would stay here again and recommend it to friends and family.

Spacious room. Quiet hotel. Great location.

How a room has a stove top and microwave but no mini fridge is so odd. Also the signs about no glass at the pool but bringing glass drinks to the pool makes no sense either.

Everything was lovely! It is a beautiful hotel and you don't feel like you are in the middle of Houston. The rooms could use some refresh (a lot of browns and dark wood every where) but still a great hotel with great service.
