Nice breakfast and convenient location
Clean, comfortable, great staff, great breakfast 4or 5 blocks from everything in historic district.
Loved our stay and would recommend to couples.
Room was large & comfortable. Breakfast was good & served on room top with nice views. Convenient central location
Nice place
Old colonial style building, the room and bathroom were very spacious. Good breakfast with fresh produce (fruit, juice, bread, etc). Staff were extremely friendly, also helped us with local excursions. Great location in historic centre, within 10 min walk from Placa Grande. Excellent value for money.
The hotel was lovely. It was decorated beautifully and had a large amount of charm. The people who owned it were friendly and very helpful.
Very antique hotel, nice homey touches throughout. Very helpful people. Our main grove was the loud music until 3:30-4 am from the la Ronda restaurants and music. Had to sleep in with my AirPods in. Otherwise is a nice location if someone want to stay in old town.
We had a great 2-night stay in this beautiful property and we would totally recommend it. It was quiet and clean inside the casa. Staff was very friendly. We felt safe. Outside walking distance were supermarkets and restaurants. It was also a pleasant walk to the old town. We had a tiny problem with our airport pickup, but the staff responded immediately on WhatsApp and fixed it within minutes. Free drinking water dispenser was a plus. Suggestion: simple lunch menu and drinks on the rooftop would be great
This is a quaint family run hotel with a history that dates back to the 15th century. What it lacks in amenities (no in-room fridge, microwave, or coffee maker) it makes up for in charm, hospitality, and comfort. There’s a mini-market across the street, several local restaurants in the area, and you can walk to the Basilica, Grand Plaza, and Metro within 10-15 minutes - but the elevation in Quito did have me breathing heavy, so prepare for that. As a single woman, it felt a bit sketchy after dark (not many people on the street in front of hotel and some homeless asking for money), but overall, I enjoyed the stay. I was very appreciative of the staff meeting me at the door, and ensuring I was safe while waiting for my late night uber to the airport. Breakfast was also excellent.
Our stay here was amazing. Right in the center of old town, very unique place with hand painted decor everywhere, exceptionally good service, good breakfast and very good prompt support with arranging ride to the airport/back. We would definitely stay here again.
Hermoso lugar.Staff amables y serviciales.Desayuno como en casa. Preciosas vistas del Centro Historico.Cerca de varios restaurantes tipicos. Altamente recomendado
I had a pleasant stay at this hotel, thanks to its spacious rooms and comfortable amenities. The breakfast was decent, offering a good start to the day. The hotel's location was a major perk, within walking distance to top restaurants, attractions and tourist sites. The staff were friendly, helpful and always willing to assist. My only issue was a temporary water supply problem in the shower one evening, likely due to the hotel's historic architecture. However, this minor hiccup didn't detract from my overall experience. I would definitely stay here again, given the hotel's comfort, ideal location and excellent staff.
Breakfast was good. Unique display of antique items
We arrived during a particularly busy city festival. This made finding the hotel and parking quite challenging but not any fault of the hotel or staff. The hotel itself is gorgeous. All the antiques around the hotel felt like you were staying in a museum. The center courtyard was beautiful with so many plants. It was a great first introduction to Ecuador for us! The hotel was very clean, staff friendly and helpful and breakfast was very good. I would prefer a slightly softer bed and maybe softer and more plush pillow. A fan for the room would also be nice, some white noise to drown out the city noise at night would be helpful. It was especially loud at night with the festival in full swing. Still a wonderful place to stay!
We had a bad experience and we didn’t get a refund for the nights we didn’t stay. The beds were dirty and I told the front desk guy and he came to change it but was very rude about it. It was very noisy throughout the night in the hotel we couldn’t sleep, the shower had standing water in it and the floor creeks when you walk so with all that in consideration we decided to let them know that we were leaving. They were not happy and said that they can change the room but I didn’t think that would help. The surroundings around the hotel didn’t feel safe, so with all mentioned we decided to leave and the didn’t want to refund the nights we didn’t stay. I think it’s unfair because if you go on vacation you should feel comfortable and safe where you’re at. I immediately messaged Expedia but the didn’t help .
It was not the safest area so that made finding a restaurant. The property was stunning and the bed was the most comfortable. Staff was helpful and available. Get the Uber ap to get around.
It is a most beautiful place. Location is fantastic in walking distance to the main square Very very safe
Overall I had a good experience, Oswaldo and the manager was very nice.
The location of the hotel is superb. Right in the heart of the historic area of Quito with a staff that was caring and kept a very tidy hotel.
Amazing hotel
I really enjoyed my stay here for over a week. Andre, who was really helpful helped me with local information and arranging me to pay by credit card regarding a couple of day tours. shervanna (if I've spelt her name correctly) was also very helpful. The hotel is amazing with historic items everywhere. It was very homely with a great atmosphere.
Spacious rooms in the town center
This was a lovely spot in a fabulous location in the Old Town. Unfortunately it was the Light Festival where every surrounding street shuts down and thousands of people swarm the streets. I wish they had given us notice about this since! Our 2nd room had no window which wasn’t great and there was no fan or AC so it was a little stuffy. Incredible old building, large rooms and bathroom, amazing views from the roof and our balcony though.
Highly recommend
Really lovely hotel, such fascinating decor. So many things to look at and places to relax. Rooms are big and beds are comfortable. Staff all friendly and helpful. Location great.
The hotel is very central - although didn't really go out much every after my tours for security reasons. The property is very much secured - although it was a challenge getting in, I was lucky a lady showed me where the door bell is. If there are loud guests, unfortunately you will them from your room. I love the breakfast! Although they don't really change towels even if you leave them in the floor. Mind the shower floor as it can get really slippery.
Excellent
Excellent little hotel in a great location. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. The place was super cute. I would highly recommend this hotel.
The property is beautiful; the rooms are comfortable, and the staff was great.
Beautiful hotel and very nice staff. Always very helpful with holding a bit of extra luggage when we were away to Galapagos and also getting us taxis to and from the airport. Also, they can arrange a day tour around Quito with an English speaking guide. We did 3 outings with Alexander who was really fun and knowledgeable about the area.
Stayed only 1 night but the house was beautiful and bed comfortable. Walking distance to the main highlights and good restaurants.
People were great, close to plaza de Armas.
Staff was really nice. The room was comfortable and the hotel is well located almost in front of Plaza Santo domingo.
Satisfied
Staffs are friendly and helpful. The room is comfy and spacious. The hotel is beautiful!
Lovely old property close to the historic area. Easy access to restaurants. Breakfast was lovely on the rooftop- what a view!
This is a very cute hotel with a lovely view and a roof top terrace for enjoying breakfast. However, it’s dangerous in the surrounding area at night snd when we arrived they ushered us to our room without giving us any towels, water or any food option. The staff wanted to be helpful but didn’t speak English. The breakfast on the terrace made it worthwhile, though.
Friendly staff , but not A/C or fans in the rooms , also very noise at night . You can hear all noises from the next door.
They offered a driver / guide trips to various locations through the hotel which we found easy and convenient to see some main sites. The breakfast was good on a roof top cafe. Quaint hotel offering cultural flair. Only issue was the wooden floors and the sound of everyone walking and waking us . Nice staff.
We loved staying at this hotel. Staff was wonderful and the traditional property was in beautiful condition.
This hotel was a peaceful oasis in the heart of a bustling area. I especially enjoyed all the greenery and the breakfast with a view. It was really convenient to be able to walk to a number of shops, panaderias, grocery stores, etc. Personally, we felt safe walking around this side of Quito. But as an added measure of security, this hotel has locked doors that you need your hotel key to enter. So that was a nice touch for peace of mind. Since the hotel is in an older building, there is a lot of creaking from the floorboards. Just something to keep in mind if you are a light sleeper. And the light fixtures could use some updating; we had to jimmy the lamps to stay in place or they would turn off. But overall, this was a great little spot to start our tour of Ecuador. If you stay here, make sure you check out the rooftop views!
Excellent location. Beautiful place full of charm that brings you back hundreds of years ago. Very friendly staff and fantastic owner. The only thing negative was that breakfast was only from 7 to 9 am which is a bit short because of the needs of the guests especially if they need to take an early flight
very special property. after entering through the doors you are transported to another world. Safe haven in a busy city. The owner is well traveled and the space is rich with collections from around the world. Safe accommodating . lovely breakfast terrace.
The room off of the rooftop patio was lovely.
Charming, safe, right in the heart of colonial Quito, with a kind and attentive staff!
The staff were excellent and the property had immense character.
Great Value, Location, and Fantastic Staff
Hotel Casa Alquimia was perfect for our stay. A typical South American style hotel at a great price. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, the breakfast was delicious, and the view on the rooftop is a bonus. The only thing to note is the traffic outside can sometimes be a bit noisy, but overall it was not too bothersome. (Maybe bring some earplugs to sleep with if you are more sensative to outside noises) The location in the old town is great with many attractions within walking distance. The hotel helped us organize an airport transfer very early in the morning which was greatly appreciated. The staff is welcoming and helped to make our stay quite pleasant and if you did not book any tours, they offer help with that too!
Nice house, beautifully decorated. Look like an hacienda The owner is very nice and helpful. Located to a few steps to the center. Not a safe area in the evening.
We enjoy our stay in quito . Amazing breakfast and service was exeptional. We will visit again.
Loved the property. Breakfast was served on the terrace, which had a great view of Quito’s angel.
Charming and historical; convenient location
Beautiful family-owned and run property, a lovely little oasis in the heart of old town Quito. We walked to some museums, churches, and good food. The family is excellent -- they are so hospitable and accommodating and serve the most delicious breakfast each morning. Highly recommend!
Nice place just like the pictures
Pretty, historic property with a nice breakfast on the roof. Had issues with check in (they did not have my name spelled correctly). Rooms open up into the courtyard so you can hear other guests at the property from your room. Would book elsewhere if you seek more privacy. I also prepaid and as I checked out they tried to tell me I needed to still pay- which was not the case. For a non Spanish speaker this would’ve been a problematic situation.
Beautiful place, great breakfast..lovely staff
Very friendly staff in a hotel with great character. Would happily come back!
Excellent stay and great services at Casa Alquimia
Excellent stay at Casa Alquimia. We ordered the shuttle taxi from the airport and our flight was delayed but they waited for us and we were escorted to our room in the night. Breakfast on the roof top was delicious and with a great view of the Virgin Statue. Room is confortable and nicely decorated. Plenty of places to sit in the courtyard and the decor is colonial and beautiful. Although we did not speak Spanish, we had no problem to communicate. We ordered a taxi back to the airport at 3:30 am and they had one person up to make sure we got it. A perfect stay in colonial Quito!
Beautiful historic building !
Lovely boutique hotel in a great location in the historic centre. The building is beautiful with lots of interesting decor and common spaces to explore. Breakfast was very good - including coffee/tea, juice, fruit, eggs, bread, cheese etc. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hot water in the shower takes a couple of minutes to warm up.
Lovely hotel
This hotel was wonderful all around. If you are looking for something fancy then this place is not for you, but if you are looking for something that feels like staying in a friend's home then you will love this. This place feels more like a B and B than a hotel. The service is top-notch. They will arrange airport pickup and dropoff for you. It is located in the old town close to all the churches and museums. It is family-owned and run and everyone is so nice and friendly. Breakfast is included and served on the upper level with fantastic views of the city. It includes fresh juice, coffee or tea, fresh fruit, eggs and toast. Our flight didn't leave until after midnight on our last day but we checked out and they stored our bags for us the entire day while we did one final tour. We returned and were able to change clothes and even hang out in the lobby area for our taxi to the airport. The room could be a little noisy from the street noise but that's to be expected due to the location(which was excellent). The bed was fairly comfortable but the pillows could have been softer. Not a big deal. If we come back to Quito I will definitely try to stay here again. What a gem of a place.
Nice and safe hotel. Good BF. Good service from the hotel staff.
Staff is very friendly and helpful!
Great location in Old Town. The owner is very responsive and helped arranged airport transfers. Good communication. The hotel has a unique history, beautifully decorated and excellent view Quito and Virgin Mary Statue from the rooftop. Great breakfast.
Amazing hotel in the heart of Centro Historico. Rooms are very clean and beds super comfortable. Breakfast in the rooftop with remarkable views to the city and La Virgen del Panecillo. Attentive and responsive staff at all times - Silvana, Anthony and Osvaldo. They offer paid transportation to and from the airport as well as some tours with high level and reliable guide (a big shout out to Isaias). Highly recommended - 10/10
Very helpful staff, love the building
The staff members are super nice. However, I hope they can help on sightseeing in English. I appreciate their flexibility to provide breakfast earlier to accomodate my flight schedule.
Silvana the owner and creator of this project took special care of us all the time. The place is exquisitely decorated with traditional and antique items. Breakfast was good and the rest of the staff always attentive. All places at the historic city Center were nearby. Really recommended.
Property administration (Sylvana) and staff were the best. Very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay.
Historic property in the old city. Lovely management and free breakfast. Walking distance to everything in the old city/historic district.
Some very nice things about this hotel: it has very large rooms and beds, in a beautiful old redone mansion in the colonial area of Quito, near la Ronda. The staff were very nice and attentive. They helped us with the luggage (no elevator). Some things to improve in would be chiefly the breakfast, which was in a nice terrace and adequate (eggs, fruit) but surprisingly scarce: they would serve us just two tiny slices of butter and a small spoonful of jam. Getting the hot water to work in the shower was tricky and so was keeping the shutters open so light could come in the room. Some suggestions: more chairs in the room and offering regular tv service (only access to apps was available). Overall a very pleasant stay.
A very nice Hotel right next to Plaza Santo Domingo. The hotel is family run and the owner is a very nice person who goes above and beyond to help guests. They also offer tour, shuttle and spa/massage services at the hotel. Definitely a place to stay if visiting Quito, I would definitely come back.
Comfortable, clean stay in historic Quito. This hotel is a gem in historic Quito. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with private baths. The hotel is in a colonial building. Breakfast is simple, but filling and enjoyable. The hotel staff is helpful and gracious. Highly recommend this as a homebase when in Quito.
The hotel is very clean quiet! The staff is super friendly! The breakfast was the best! Couldnt be happier!
The room had everything we needed and was very clean. The staff was great. Breakfast was great with a beautiful view. The location was right in the middle of old Quito. We felt very safe. Great deal!
The property was extremely clean and beautifully maintained. Staff was friendly and helpful. However, the hot water in the bathroom was inconsistent even after we let the manager know on our 2nd day. On the 3rd day, we had no hot water at all and had to have the housekeeping staff “fix” it late at night. The toilet was also antiquated and water wasn’t filling in the tank when we first arrived. It was quickly fixed but we were told to not flush toilet paper!
Great Stay in the Historic District
The hotel is a lovely older building in the historic district of Quito. The manager of the property could not have been more helpful. She ensured that our stay was enjoyable and helped to ensure that we had transportation wherever we required it.
Old school elegance with modern conveniences
Gorgeously restored old colonial with splendor and character to spare. Antique furniture sets the tone but make no mistake - the rooms have all modern conveniences. Beds are very comfortable and shower is excellent. Everyone we dealt with went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful stay. Breakfast was very tasty.
This property is amazing, the staff is great, the food is delicious, and everything is in walking distance, old town quito is a very interesting
We checked in the hotel on Jan 15, 2023 after 6 pm. The next morning, after breakfast, the hotel manager, Sylvia, asked us to move to another hotel so that she could give the room we booked over 5 months ago to another guests from a group tour! We wanted to help and we told her we needed to see the other hotel first. After seeing the other hotel, we decided not to move. Sylvia got really upset. She told us if we did not like the other hotel, she just gave us back what we paid and we had to get out of the hotel before the group of other guests arrived! We traveled to many countries and booked many hotels and this was the first time, the hotel manager asked us to move to another hotel so that she could give our room to another guest. We said NO and told her it was not our fault that she overbooked and she had to do whatever she wanted to do but we would not move. We booked the room through Expedia and we told her to contact Expedia. We went out to see the city. My husband was worried the whole time that we came back and found our luggages on the sidewalk. Luckily, we did not get to that point. The water in the bathroom took a very long time to get warm. The towels are very thin and small.
Beautiful historical property with large, comfortable rooms. Friendly staff and delicious breakfast. Excellent location, in walking distance of historical centre. However, can be noisy at nighttime with traffic. Overall, highly recommended. Wonderful hotel.
We love Lenin and his team !
Lenin could not have been more accommodating. He met us in the rain at the curb to help us with luggage. He found a laundry and seamstress. Lenin helped us navigate our day trips not leaving anything to chance . The breakfast was great and the service impeccable every morning without fail . I have already recommended Alqamia to many people.
Quaint historical building
The bed in our room was broken by the previous guests. Thus the hotel accommodate us in another hotel room down the street for the first night. The hotel is so beautiful and staff are super nice and responsible. Would love to recommend to all.
A Must!
I absolutely loved staying here. The staff was friendly and attentive, breakfast was delicious and had a beautiful view from the roof. We were close to the grocery store, town square and restaurants. The room was clean and cozy. The bed was comfortable and the hotel was full of history and carefully curated collections - like a little museum.
Loved Everything
Large rooms, gorgeous hotel with charming details. Staff friendly and helpful. I need to find an excuse to come back. Perfect location in old town so you can walk to everything. Breakfast was included, which was a great surprise!
What a wonderful hotel! Convenient and close to most of what you want to see. It’s an authentic Ecuadorian home that’s been converted into a hotel. Be sure to walk around the perimeter of the inside as there are a host of historical and interesting objects! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The manager goes out of her way to accommodate your needs! I will be back!
Great locations…. Delicious restaurant! The staff is friendly and will help in every possible way!
This is a beautiful authentic hotel in the historic district of Quito. Full of interesting antiques. Delicious breakfast with fresh fruit and made to order eggs. The breakfast is served in the roof cafe with great view of the Vitgin Mary statue The staff is kind and helpful with all questions and needs. I had a health emergency and they quickly advised the best clinic and arranged a taxi. They were up at 3 am to ensure we caught a cab back to the airport for our flight home. We will definitely stay here when we return to Quito.
We loved our recent stay at Casa Alquimia. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and the setting was perfect for our tourism needs. The only improvement I could recommend would be fans in the bedrooms to get airflow. With 3 of us in one room it got pretty stuffy at night. There is no a/c, and its not really an option to open the windows as our room was on a busy street. This said, if we are ever in Quito again, we would book here without hesitation. Thank you Casa staff for taking such good care of us.
Everything was great and the staff was wonderful, I’ll give this place a 5 stars.
I cannot say enough good things about this place. The location is great - right in the historic centre and at location that is easy to call a taxi, Uber or catch a tour bus. The rooms are large, lovely and clean. The place is gorgeous. Alot of love went into the restoration and it looks right out of Encanto. I had a room facing the street and it could be noisy but I could definitely sleep through it. The rooftop breakfast call is adorable and the breakfast is great. Definitely try the house tea! Service was top notch. I was told where I could and couldnt go, what to see, how to get around and when I got sick during my stay they went seemed to really care about my well being. I was sad to leave. Don't hesitate on booking
Hotel was beautiful, breakfast was delicious, and staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.
We loved our stay at casa alquimia! Staff were great, breakfast was delicious, and the house was beautiful! The only downfall for us was the noise on the street outside our window. We usually like to sleep in but it was noisy every morning around 6:30. However, would stay here again!!
Beautiful casa, close to central square. Very attentive staff and great breakfast
Amazing place, friendly staff and the service was great
Service
Nice quaint hotel in old town Quito. Very friendly staff and had good recommendations on things to do and see. Was helpful in printing off needed documents.
This is a beautiful Spanish colonial home straight out of Encanto. It’s right in the middle of the historic district. The family that runs it is absolutely marvelous. Great breakfast, very clean rooms and grounds, excellent service. NOTE: this is a several hundred year old building so there is no air conditioning or heat. Like all spanish colonial buildings, it keeps a steady temperature with very thick brick and limestone walls. We found it comfortably cool. There is no cable tv, microwave, fridge etc. For that go to the modern part of town. This a traditional, immaculate and lovely building steps away from all the historic sites. I would go back over and over.
Gorgeous interior lobby decorated like a museum, comfortable and spacious rooms, with wonderful view from roof, great breakfast and lovely hospitality. We appreciated our host helping us schedule COVID tests on site to prepare for our flight to the Galápagos. You’re right in the middle of the colonial area - so many churches, plazas, markets and eateries right around the corner. Shower settings were a little tricky but we were patient and got good hot water. Would definitely stay here again.
Beautiful, well-appointed historic home; friendly owners; full breakfast with good coffee. Great base for exploring old Quito.
This stay was a highlight of my S. America trip, for the simple elegance of the property and the wonderful hospitality of Silvana, Isaya, Lenin and the team. This Casa feels family-run, highly caring and full of guidance and recommendations for a stay in Quito. The rooms are spacious and clean with local design touches, and the large square atrium around which the rooms sit is decorated with carefully placed objects from this history of the building across centuries of ownership by families of different professions from legal to medical. And, there is a wonderful pride in the breakfast, served on a roof-top dining room. I had never been to Ecuador and glad Casa Alquimia was the first stop I arrived to, to settle in. I'm really grateful I stumbled on Casa Alquimia.
Wonderful family run historic hotel
This is a beautiful old colonial house perfectly located in the old city - a block from La Ronda and with all the transit options of the Plaza de Santo Domingo right outside the door. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, the breakfast is delicious, and the owners are friendly, helpful and welcoming. I loved this place and would stay here again in a heartbeat!
