We had a great 3-night stay. The room was spacious, the hotel is located on a quiet street but near public transport and walkable to the Rijksmuseum area. Staff were friendly and decor lovely!

An amazing stay at Hotel Asterisk! My room was very comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful!

As if the location and cleanliness of this hotel was not enough, the people working behind the counter were even better. Locked myself out at 6 in the morning and they were kind enough to make me another key as my taxi arrived. Can’t say enough about this gem of a hotel.

I've been a visitor to Amsterdam for over twenty years, visiting 6 to 8 times a year for culture. I usually stay in the same 2 or 3 hotels near Concertgebouw but all were booked out this weekend so I was happy to try Asterisk for the first time, mostly based on the very positive reviews. The welcome was warm, I was given a hot towel on arrival (nice touch and great idea on this cold, rainy day). Young lady at reception was pleasant and helpful. Settling into Room 115 I suddenly noticed something odd. No toilet or bathroom. Just a wash hand basin. Confused, I checked my booking details on Hotels.com and confirmation email from Asterisk. Nothing to indicate no toilet or bathroom. Genuinely intrigued I went back to reception to be told I had to use the toilet and bathroom further down the corridor. Why I wasn't told this when I checked-in wasn't explained but 'apparently' I was informed previously by email. Having checked thro' my email, including spam and junk, nothing there by way of explanation. So for my 2-night stay I had to walk up and down the hotel corridor, past other guests' rooms, in order to use the toilet. I can't help thinking that because I was polite, courteous and friendly upon arrival, it was decided that the 'old fellow from Ireland' won't complain, so give him one of the nightmare rooms. Anyhow, a big, big pity. At my age I hate being taken for a fool so won't be staying at the Asterisk again. Please make sure you don't find yourself in the same situation

The room was very different than what was shown on the website. Barely room for one person let alone 2 traveling with suitcases and back packs. Tiny desk pretty useless for any work.

Very nice n warm hotel , but there is no air condition in most of hotel ……

It's a nice family run location. We stayed in the apartment across the street from the hotel. It was relatively clean with a nice bathroom. The only issue was it was extremely hot. Not sure what kind of mattresses they are using, but I would wake up sweaty and stuck to the mattress. No AC in the room, only a small fan and because our room was on the ground floor, we were not comfortable leaving the patio door open at night. I would say a little pricey for what you get, no breakfast!

Lovely but lacking a,enmities.

The staff were amazing. They were very kind, prompt, and helpful. However, the room was very small without a bed table or place to put luggage. The electrical outlets were all on the side of the room. They were also needed in the middle of the room. We paid for a room with a window, but the window was blocked by one of the signs on the building.

Super friendly, clean, quiet, and good location. Comfortable beds. Nice bedroom with tiny bathroom could use a few more amenities and a couple more pillows. I would stay here again.

So happy we booked our stay in Amsterdam at Hotel Asterisk! First, our check in experience with Adam was a delight and he continued to be friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. Our room was large and quiet located in a building across the street from the main hotel. Our room overlooked a courtyard and it was nice and quiet even with the windows open! Location was close to everything - just a wonderful stay!

Hotel staff very personable and helpful. Very convenient location, not too close to the hustle and bustle, not too far from the action either.

FANTASTIC place and super close to metro!!

FANTASTIC experience. The front desk was cordial from the very beginning and they took care of our questions and needs at all times. The owner and his family live on premise and we ran into them a few times and they were absolutely great people. This property is super close to metro and about 30 minutes from the airport. We took an Uber to and fro to airport. Very convenient. Highly recommend choosing this property!!

Museum convenient

Very clean, conveniently located, and well appointed hotel. It was our misfortune to visit during a heat wave and the hotel has no air conditioning. Pity! Otherwise it was perfect! Friendly knowledgeable staff. Comfortable beds. Great place from which th visit the museum!

The staff at this hotel are amazing and very helpful. The hotel is close to the metro and tram system although many of the museums, shopping, and attractions are within a 10 to 20 minute walk. This is located in a quiet area as well. The room was very clean and spacious with a nice carpet rather than hard floor that our other two hotels had. We appreciated the elevator to get our luggage to the third floor we were staying on. We would definitely stay here again!

Easy to locate. Privacy and serenity.

This hotel is close enough to walk downtown Amsterdam and walk to the museums--it's in the middle between the two. It's also very quiet. I liked how the building has not been over-maximized because below my window was a first-floor green rooftop and a little backyard. One has the feeling that the hotel building maintains its original architecture. The elevator was helpful. I also appreciated that they have a large locked room to hold luggage on the day I checked out.

Wonderful and convenient location for exploring Amsterdam and its environs. Helpful staff and a lovely friendly property. The carousel cafe on the nearby park is a great way to start your day.

The Asterisk was the perfect location for our exploration of Amsterdam.

We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Asterisk very much. The rooms were modern and well kept. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We were worried that the hotel might be too far from many of the attractions in Amsterdam, but we found we could walk to most of them within 15-20 minutes.

Very good customer service, room was large and the location was very easy to get around.

This was our first stay at this hotel. We could not have been happier with everything! The staff went above and beyond to explain the area to us, gave us information about the rooms and the amenities in the hotel. There was a coffee machine in this beautiful sitting room where you could just chill in, or eat your takeout food. We didn’t realize that they owned rooms across the street but Nor helped us with our luggage and the couple of steps we needed to navigate. We were on the first floor do didn’t need the elevator but we made sure they had them. The rooms were spacious and clean , the beds were very comfortable. They gave us hot facecloths when we checked in ( something that felt SO refreshing after our long day of traveling. ). We needed to keep some medicines cold, so they lent us their own ice pack. The area was on a nice quiet street but was a very short walk to the Metro and bus stop. The morning we checked out, Adam was extremely helpful the morning we checked out. We didn’t get to enjoy it, but there was our own little private courtyard right off of our room. We even got a cute gift when we checked out. There were so many extra little touches that made this stay even more enjoyable!

What a lovely stay I had at this property! Staff were all so friendly and helpful. The property was always neat and clean. I liked that the property felt like a Dutch home.The area around is quiet and only a 2 minute walk from the metro and the tram and only stop away from the city center. I would recommend staying here if you want to stay close to the city but want to be in a quiet area. 5/5! Would definitely stay here again.

Nice Hotel, Great Location

This was a nice hotel located near the museums of Amsterdam. The room was comfortable and quiet. The hotel does not offer breakfast and does not have a restaurant. There are plenty of restaurants in the area but very little for breakfast. The hotel is very close to the metro and other public transportation options.

We enjoyed our stay.

Not bad

The price was a lot more than the value. I really thought we would get more and the room would be nicer. Lighting was very dim and bed was squeezed between walls. Reception area had coffee tea and snacks for a fee, but for the price we paid, we really expected gratis daily. I’m certain we could have received the same for less just around the corner. The staff is friendly and attentive but young. All pillows are not the same. I asked for a thinner pillow and was told they are all the same. I asked for an additional pillow and guess what, it was thinner. Again, the staff was great but sometimes took a little persuading. They offer luggage storage. Umbrellas are available on rainy days and nights. No breakfast is offered although they have a perfect hall for that. The location is near a tram stop and Metro station. Restaurants are nearby but be sure to check ratings and customer comments, as this is a tourist area.

Perfect Place to Stay

Hotel Asterisk was a great find! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The location was perfectly situated on a beautiful residential, quiet street and just a short walk to everything. My room was, what I think was the smallest room in the hotel but was still comfortable and functional. It was very clean and nicely appointed. I do have two suggestions which did not affect my rating. First, since the room is so small, I suggest the desk and chair be removed and replaced with a chest of drawers. Second, I like the no shower door concept but that does not work for small showers. The entire floor gets wet and the bathroom door is rotting at the bottom. Otherwise, If the opportunity arises for me to visit Amsterdam again, I will definitely stay here! Thank you!

Very friendly staff, English speaking. Provided useful information on transit. Hôtel gave nice souvenir when we checked out, small pair of porcelain shoes. Would stay here again.

Comfortable family hotel in a Great location

Great service , well kept rooms and very personal. The hotel is perfectly located at the edge of the Centre main canals and the museums district and two block to the metro. The block is very quite but is a short walk to some great local bars.

Cozy, easy access with lift, and private separate bathroom was lovely. Central location, quiet street--loved it!!!

Our stay at Hotel Asterisk was amazing. Location, Location, Location. The Hotel is in the Center of it All. Convenient to all of Amsterdams major attractions and to both the tram and metro. This is a small family run hotel that specializes in great service. They bend over backwards to help and accommodate their guests. They even give you a gift to remember your stay in the Netherlands upon check out. Unfortunately, we were late to book and only able to stay one night here. They stored our luggage upon our early arrival and got us into our room 2 hours prior to check-in time. The staff was extremely knowlegeable about the area and made great recommendations. We will book earlier in our next visit and stay here for our entire stay in Amsterdam. The rooms are spacious and comfortable but their service is what puts Hotel Asterisk at the top.

The room was very large by European standards had a wire mesh patio looking over a courtyard. Near a small grocery store. Near metro line 52 so it is easy getting to train station and central shopping area. Very clean and comfortable. The bathroom had an enclosed toilet area the hinges were still there but no door. The door would make the bathroom more functional But otherwise we had a great stay.

Hotel is perfectly located by the metro station in a quiet neighborhood only 2 stops from Amsterdam Centraal. 10-20 min walk to all museums. Nice and attentive staff. Luke’s coffee by the metro was amazing.

Everything about my stay was wonderful! The front desk was available 24/7 to answer questions and I sure used them. Super close to Metro, which I used every day and everything else was walkable ... if I come back to Amsterdam, would definitely stay here again!

Long weekend in Amsterdam. Hotel in a central location . Staff helpful. Single rooms are small however you don’t spend much time in them!

Clean, quiet, comfortable

This is a comfortable and quiet hotel outside the busy city centre, but still within easy walking distance of attractions such as Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. The nearest metro station is only two stops away from Amsterdam Centraal station too. The staff are all helpful and friendly. The hotel is secure as entry is only allowed with an entry card. The decor is a tad dated but it's clean and comfortable, which is the most important thing, and they seem to making gradual updates to the hotel.

Hotel Asterisk was absolutely incredible! The hotel room was a very generous size, clean and tidy. The staff were extremely kind and even gifted us a free room upgrade upon arrival! The metro station is only a 3 minute walk from the hotel and most attractions/city centre are within walking distance. I can’t recommend Hotel Asterisk enough.

As a solo traveller the hotel could not have been better equipped or situated for me. The hotel is very homely and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and courteous. The rooms were spotless and beds were lovely and comfortable to sleep in. Shared bathroom when I found it was very spacious with plenty of hot water. Altogether a fantastic stay and I would highly recommend this hotel Hope to see you soon. Maxine

We stayed in the building on the other side of the road from the hotel. The stair chase steps are very narrow and step but there is a 2 man list, which I would recommend using. The rooms are very nice and seem to be recently modernised. Would recommend.

Great location in a quiet street close to transport links and the art museums. The family are very welcoming and our room was lovely and a good size. It was perfect for a short break exploring Amsterdam.

A Very Well Run No Frills Hotel

Asterisk is a very well run hotel. It is a combination of simplicity and elegance.The management and staff are very helpful and friendly. Johan a member of the family that owns Asterisk and Augustine a staff member are particularly helpful. They are both very familiar with the surrounding area . Asterisk is well situated and within walking distance to many of Amsterdam’s museums and restaurants. I have stayed at Asterisk on two occasions and intend to return there on my next visit to Amsterdam.

One of the best in Amsterdam

I love this hotel; everyone is friendly and very kind! I felt at home and very safe at this hotel, and I will always stay here when I visit Amsterdam!

Wonderful hotel and wonderful family run staff. My only recommendation is that they have something available for breakfast; i.e. a fridge in the lobby with juice and yogurt - and/or have free coffee available downstairs. Breakfast restaurants are 10-15 minute walk away and didn't have fridge in hotel room to store food.

We absolutely loved our stay at this hotel. It is boutique, quiet area but close to attractions and metro/transportation. Can’t say enough about how much my friends and I loved our stay and would highly recommend this hotel.

I was so relieved to discover that the property had a lift! A small lift, but they had one! I was so happy not to have to haul my heavy baggage up stairs. The staff was extremely helpful and welcoming.

This hotel is magical, definitely stay here! Perfect location near metro, grocery, and area attractions/city center is not far by walk/metro either. The hotel is boutique feel, clean, quiet, super helpful staff; the rooms are small, efficient, and clean, comfortable. The lobby is so welcoming and warm with a nice area to hang out as a group. Would highly recommend this hotel option; my friends and I couldn’t get over how beautiful this hotel is…sigh.. Wish we were here longer.
