Eccentric with both plusses and minuses -a one off

One has to judge things through the lense of Macedonia where in general hotels can be a bit eccentric. but this one is more eccentric than most. Positives are superb location right next to the old town, and huge rooms with great views and the awesome roof bar/terrace. Downsides are fading 80s style and no way this can be described as a 5 star service. Having said that most of the staff were friendly (mention to the good staff at the bar). Nice breakfast. Probably the worst thing was over soft mattresses (not good by today's standards) and the greenhouse effect of so much glass when the aircon was centrally turned off. So rooms were pretty warm. Open the windows and its noisy. Plus we were told no kettle or iron for "security reasons". Really this isnt 5 star service. But hey, overall go for the experience!

Great hotel, in a great location. The city is very walkable and this provided an excellent base for a short visit. Great view to contemplate whilst eating breakfast.

Very nice clean room. Friendly staff and very helpful. No issue at all checking in. It was perfect and stay throughout was very comfortable! Thank you for making our stay wonderful.

The front desk was excellent and very kind but the hotel requires guests to put a sign on the door if they want but clean. If it's not there, the room will not be clean. The room safe didn't work. Ordering a taxi was super complicated and took an hour every time.

Service issues but otherwise a good hotel

The service at the hotel was disappointing. We had booked an airport pickup and the hotel asked for flight details etc. When we found out our flight may be delayed we sent an email before leaving to advise the hotel of a likely delay to our flight and we sent an URL for Skopje Airport asking them to check the latest flight status before sending the car. When we arrived (late) the reception staff made a snide comment about arriving late and the car having to wait for us. When we checked out the hotel tried to charge us twice for the airport pickup. I told the staff that I had sent an email warning them of the delay. The receptionist acknowledged the email but said that he can't be expected to check the flight status of all of his clients when arranging a airport pick up therefore we must pay twice for the delay. We did not pay for the additional pick up and raised a complaint but it took a lot argument to reach this outcome and it took some of the pleasure out of our stay in what is a lovely city. In fairness to the staff he was presumably doing his job in line with the hotel's policies. But if so that leaves an impression of service levels at the hotel - i.e. ignoring an email from a client warning of delays because it is unreasonable to have to check the flight status. It is a pity as in many ways the hotel is good. It is in a great location next to the Old Bazaar part of the city and it has great views from the breakfast and bar area. Also the breakfast was fantastic.

Too many rules, need to learn customer service.

Too many rules. The Welcome Aboard package contains two legal size pages of small print of rules including no washing clothes in the sink and no outside food, even though ony breakfast is served. My first two days, I wanted to eat breakfast outside on the terrace. The waiters refused to serve me. Reason; "not our protocol." Food from the buffet, coffee, and cigerettes were allowed, but they refused to walk the extra ten meters with the breakfast plate. I finally got them to do as I asked, but I had to start the first two mornings fighting with hotel staff.

Very clean and within walking distance of main attractions

Modern and fancy hotel in nice and walkable area. Beautiful rooftop terrace with panoramic views of the city. Within a short walk from all the main attractions in town (max 10min by foot)

Nice little hotel, great views.

Except for the older staff attitude, everything went excellent

They have a free guarded parking. But the pool is just a decoration in the restaurant. The restaurant where you also get breakfast has a good view.

Great hotel

Nice hotel in the most convenient location, right in the centre of the old town. Provides great views of the old town as well as other main attractions of Skopje from the rooftop terrace.

Good hotel improved greatly by the helpful staff.

The hotel was good but it was improved greatly the customer service of the two very helpful gentleman receptionists, Stoyan and Gregor, who helped us so much and couldn’t be more hospitable, they are a credit to the hotel.

The staff is fantastic, get all the help I need with everything, including Covid 19 required tests that they arranged on premises. Every member of the staff was very helpful. The hotel itself is it is very clean and well maintained in most areas, but a bit odd: glass bathrooms, no towel hooks and retractable showers you should hold in your hand all the time. The area around the hotel is not very clean (but feels safe though) and noisy.

Wonderful surprise

Skopje is not a touristy city and thus the general layout and infrastructure is somewhat confusing, so our first impression of the hotel entrance was a bit scary. However, everything after that was great. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful, the breakfast was great with one of the best views from anywhere in the city. The location was perfect, although the Macedonia Square is the heart of the city, the activity and best traditional food restaurants are right by the ARKA Hotel. Strongly recommended!

Fabulous Stay

My stay at Hotel Arka was wonderful! The staff were simply amazing! They were all very attentive, friendly and nice! I had been corresponding with Goran and other staff members prior to arrival to try to stay on top of restrictions due to Covid and they all had been very quick to respond with answers to my question and more! Ratko was the evening receptionist who we spoke with most due to the timing of our comings and goings and he was super helpful in coordinating our Covid Test forgetting back to the states and printed all the documents for us. Jacov was the our bar guy in the evening for our take away drinks and he was such a pleasure to chat with about Macedonia and life in general. We had such a wonderful stay at Hotel Arka! An experience I will for sure remember for a very long time!

Recommended hotel in the middle of the Old Bazaar

Nice hotel with a very good breakfast. Right in the middle of the Old Bazaar area. Illumination in the room and in the corridors could have been better. The same applies for wifi signal. But overall, the stay was nice, comfortable with good value for money. Very friendly staff. Do not miss the rooftop bar... amazing views of the city both during the day and at night!

The hotel is in a good location and stuff is welcoming. The room needs to he renovate especially the shower which is not very comfortable and water draining is very slow. Also it need tp be cleaner especially the windows from the outside since we got a room with city view as was promised but couldn't see it clearly. Also, in the hotel published pictures you can see a pool but when we asked about it, we were told thay it is for decoration only and a 5 star hotel shohld have one.

Nice overall

This is a nice and modern hotel in the old town. The room was clean and spacious. However, it was a bit difficult taking a shower without a showerhead holder above. Someone also had obviously been smoking in the room when it's supposed to be non-smoking, but that shouldn't be a surprise as they are more relaxed about smoking here. These are small things though. Will recommend to visitors to Skopje.

The stay at hotel Arka was one of the best experiences we have ever had! Layout of this hotel was so well imagined. Our room was very welcoming! The staff was very welcoming and soft spoken! The pool even though was small it was gorgeous! We surely will come back when next time in Skopje!

I wouldn’t necessarily say this is a 5 star hotel by European standards - but it’s clean and comfortable. The two killer selling points are: 1. Location - though at first you’ll wonder if you’ve taken a wrong turn, when you eventually find the hotel you’ll be pleased to discover it’s in the heart of the Old Bazaar. The location is unbeatable. 2. The roof terrace. The views of Skopje are incredible. I enjoyed a few beers as the sun went down over Mount Vodno - looked remarkable like the Macedonian flag 🇲🇰 You won’t find a better view anywhere else - worth the booking alone. Hotel is a little dated and quirky, but perfectly fine. You’re travelling in Macedonia - you probably know what to expect.

Comfortable hotel in the heart of the Old Bazar, with many restaurants, shops, monuments, etc. Everything is clean, staff professional, friendly and helpful. The executive room was comfortable enough, nice bathroom. There were construction works on the neighbouring building, but almost nothing was heard. Breakfast was very tasty and rich. You can enjoy a wonderful view from the terrace bar on the 7th floor, see picture attached. The only thing that could be better is the mattresses, but still OK.

Hotel under construction

When we arrived the hotel was under construction so it looks pretty bad. We arrived at 2am and the staff was not helpful at all. We have to climb big stairs with our heavy louggage and nobody helped us. The breakfast was mediocre and the staff not happy. The only one thing about the hotel was the lady that cleans and she was able to help me to iron and wash some of my clothes.

I think once they finish on the Work being done ...things will be better

Great Value in Skopje

Friendly staff, nicely appointed room. Smoking through vents was irritating, but I guess non-smoking options are very hard to find in Southern Europe!

Modern comforts in the center of Skopje

Great hotel offered everything our family of four required for our short stay in Skopje. The front desk staff went above and beyond to answer all our questions. Lovely breakfast and comfortable rooms, the local is situated in the heart of the Old Bazaar and walking distance to major sites including the stone bridge.

Good hotel with good amenities. Modern and clean. Good location

Staff is very friendly and helpful. Room is quite small but clean and comfortable. The downsides are there's no elevator and the water in our bathroom flooded the toilet as there was something wrong with the flooring.

Great views, delightful breakfast, heart of Skopje

Gorgeous view over Skopje from my room and from the panoramic breakfast area. My luxurious bathroom had views over the city. Easy (1 minute walk) access to Old Bazaar, which connects to other main sights. Staff were very kind and welcoming. Comfortable beds, large living space. Included breakfast had a variety of fruit, meat, egg, bread, dairy, and pastry options. North American travellers may find the hand-held shower nozzle (no standing shower), unusable tv, and lack of tea kettle surprising though. Wifi was spotty in most parts of my room, but strong in hallway. Pleasant stay overall, and would return to this hotel in the future.

Very comfortable hotel in the city centre.

We stayed in the Hotel Arka and found it to be perfectly located in the heart of Skopje, within easy walking distance of all main attractions within the centre of the city. The hotel itself is well furnished, very comfortable, with a delightful bar area and roof top seating areas with excellent city views. The staff were so welcoming, friendly and very helpful. Personally, I can't recommend this hotel enough.

3 nights in Skopje

We arrived in Skopje without our luggage and found the hotel staff very friendly and helpful as we needed to make some emergency purchases. The hotel's decor is a little dated and shows the its age but this just adds to the character of the hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the hotel is in a great location for exploring the old town. Good breakfasts, with a slightly bizarre swimming pool in the bar/restaurant. We would happily book this hotel again.

OK place, not a great find.

Breakfast is OK, not very many choices. Staff doesn't speak English. They can't provide an iron to a room and take 15 minutes to tell you that.

Quality hotel with a stunning view

Room was very clean, although a bit outdated. Hotel was very nice, with an excellent breakfast and a stunning view of the Old Bazaar. For the price, Arka is hard to beat in Skopje. Definitely recommended!

Return stay, even better

After three days in Ohrid, we returned to the Arka before our trip home. We were greeted by the excellent staff like long lost relatives and were informed that we had been upgraded to a higher class room. It was unbelievably beautiful and comfortable. The staff went out of it's way to help us and make us feel comfortable. Every one of the employees was friendly and helpful--Natasha, Adriana, Angel and Thoma and even the lady who helped us with the instructions to the safe. Definitely a wonderful experience. Hotel is conveniently located right near the bazaar and within walking distance to the stone bridge, touristic sites, and Macedonia Square.

Wonderful experience

The Arka is in the bazaar area of Skopje near lots of shops and restaurants and many of the sites of the city, It is an easy walk down to the old stone bridge where many other sites are located (museums, institutions, restaurants) and a short walk to the more modern section across the river. The staff greeted us warmly upon our arrival and helped us up the stairs with our luggage from the parking area (both my husband and I had difficulty carrying heaving things up the stairs, but they were very accommodating). The hotel is modern with a spa and jacuzzi, a lovely top floor breakfast restaurant and bar with a gorgeous view of the city. The staff was extremely friendly and offered lots of advice on where to go and where to eat. Definitely would recommend this hotel, though getting to it can be a bit difficult.

Skopje: View from a perch

I returned to Skopje after a long gap of almost 8 years since my many previous visits. I discovered the Hotel Arka by accident in the late 1990s and found it to be a first class facility with a great view of the city and especially the old market area. From the dining area on the seventh floor ( with a pool ) you are surrounded in glass and can see the entire city. It is out the door and maybe 30 yards to the old market. It is an easy walk or taxi ride to the main business areas. From the perch of the Arka you can see the old fortifications where digs are still uncovering more ancient origins of the city. At night. it is just beautiful. The market is well maintained and has many interesting shops and restaurants. Most of it dates from the 1500s. If you are interested in jewelry, gold and silver, this is one of the best places in the Balkans to go shopping. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is modern with warm wood and lighting. It is spotless and quiet.

Fantastic stay in Hotel Arka!

The hotel is unbelievable clean and artistic,with the original painting hanging everywhere in the corridor. It is extremely convenient for me to get to everywhere in the city, as the hotel is just located in the very center of Skopje, best location with a stunning view from the room window! I love the roof bar on the top floor which is amazingly beautiful and from where you can get a whole view of the old bazaar and the surrounding hills. The breakfast is unexpected good with a wide range of choices and pleasant freshness. The staff are so much helping during my stay which added the coziness feeling of my whole trip. I definitely will choose this hotel again as the price is reasonable and the stay is super satisfactory.

Modern, clean and conveniently located.

The Hotel Arka is well located within the historic district Corsija - 5 minutes walk from the river. A great base to explore the cultural attractions of Skopje and very safe.

Strange hotel - nice

In the middle of the Moslem quarter - only 10 minutes walk from the centre of Skopje. Big rooms. Nice service. Third time i stayed there and will stay again. Excellent price for the quality. Gareth

Vastaanoton henkilökunta oli poikkeuksellisen palvelualtis, kaikki toimi nopeasti ja ystävällisesti. Hotellin sijainti basaarialueen tuntumassa oli näppärä - kaikki palvelut ja nähtävyydet oli kävelymatkan päässä. Aamupala oli monipuolinen ja maukas. Huoneemme (juniorsviitti) oli tilava ja mukava. Ainoa huono puoli oli haju - vessan viemärit haisivat huoneessa koko vierailumme ajan.

En bordure du bazar, ce qui a des avantages (proximite) et des inconvenients (tres anime, un peu bruyant -muezzins-). Mais au final agreable. Personnel aimable et empresse.

Nice location, nice hotel, horrible staff Avoid it

Hotel is well located but i never see so rude staff in all balkans. The staff never say hello at reception, try to invent silly excuse, try to scam with taxis….i would be really interested to talk with general manager about my stay there. After this stay we stayed in Double Tree by hilton in Skopje and experience was totally different. Its really pity because this hotel could be nice and so on but just need change this lazy staff

Hvis du elsker moskeer, så er dette stedet

Hotellet ligger i et kvarter med masser moskeer. Der kommer massiv larm fra disse på alle tider af døgnet, fx når der kl. 4 om natten kaldes til bøn! Ganske vist ligger hotellet lige ved Old Town, men også meget tæt på et trøstesløst, nedslidt og fattigt kvarter. Skopje er en af de grimmeste byer, jeg har besøgt i verden - kun Bukarest og Chisinau er grimmere! Vores fejl var, at vi tilbragte 3 døgn i byen, inden vi tog ud i de (smukke) bjerge og senere til den flotte Ohrid Sø. Mit råd til andre rejsende er, at man kun tilbringer 1 døgn i Skopje og i stedet udforsker naturen i Nordmakedonien.

Hotel Arka mükemmel konumu ve konfor anlamında çok güzeldi. Pişman olmazsınız.

Rent och fint. Bodde i ett större rum som kanske inte används ofta, behövdes spolas i kranarna men efter det hur bra som helst.

Peccato!!!

Ero stato in questo albergo 5 anni fa ed era un soggiorno tutto sommato piacevole. Esperienza attuale é stata pessima per seguenti motivi; -durante la prenotazione era indicato disponibile la piscina coperta. Invece al momento del check out hanno comunicato che fino a maggio non era possibile utilizzarla. -ho prenotato una camera con letto king, mi hanno assegnato una camera con due letti singoli uniti (per modo di dire) che si staccavano in continuazione -essendo un viaggio di lavoro, avevo bisogno di una connessione internet decente. Purtroppo la velocità era 6Mbps download e 1,8Mbps upload con continuo staccarsi. -in camera ho trovato un forte odore di chiuso e tutto era pieno di polvere, sembrava che la camera non venisse utilizzata da tempo -aria condizionata funzionava malappena ma quando si attivava faceva un rumore che ho fatto davvero fatica ad addormentarmi Peccato perché prima era un albergo molto valido, ora non piu…

God beliggenhed

And the hotel looks very clean and comfortable! But in the rooms, there is a terrible smell coming from the bathroom! Very stinky, like at a sewage treatment plant !!! the Wi-Fi on the room is very bad! There is a connection, but it’s not stable! Breakfast is small, basic, but good! The view at the rooftop is amazing and also the area where the hotel is located! The only disadvantage is, that many mosques are around! He will hear their singing voices very loud and very often!

Super beliggenhet og frokostsal med fantastisk utsikt. Ellers litt slitt, men store rom. Bassenget var lite og dessuten sesongstengt! Hva er da vitsen med innenførsbasseng? Treningsrommet var også ikke mye å skryte av. Vi hadde juniorsuite, stort rom med panoramavinduer. Bra!

Ok i forhold til pris og beliggenhed

Det var fint hotel, der var en mærkelig kloak lugt i toilettet, som de sagde skyldes systemet i området :-/ Poolen var slet ikke så stor og åbnede først kl 10.30 til 20.00 På sidste dagen kunne toilettet ikke trækkes op. Så vi blev nød til at anvende på en anden etage. Morgenmad var godt Personalet var søde Tæt på alt - god beliggenhed Værelserne gode

Store rom og fin beliggenhet ved gamlebyen

Hotellet ligger i utkanten av gamlebyen og nær en hovedvei hvor det går flere busser bl.a. til hoveddelen av byen (bygd opp igjen etter det store jordskjelvet i 1963). Vennlig og serviceinnstilt betjening og store rom. (Med det er vel unødvendig å bytte håndklær hver gang de er brukt.) Det var ikke frokostbuffet, men vi fikk tallerkener med ost, kjøttpålegg, grønnsaker og syltetøy m.m. I tillegg kunne vi bestille forskjellige retter som omelett, egg og bacon m.m. På toppen var det også et lite basseng og bar hvor man kunne sitte ved bassenget eller utendørs.

Bra vistelse på Arka hotel

Vistelsen på hotellet var bra, bra service , restaurang läge med rooftop däremot luktade mögel på toaletten. Hotellet ligger i ett fattigt kvarter däremot man kan finna det mesta både små restauranger och dylikt. Helt ok pris

Я Я знаю не Впервые пишу негативный отзыв, по роду работы в Скопье бывала очень часто, останавливалась во многих отелях. 5 звёзд у этого отеля? Большие сомнения. Постельное белье в дырках. Грязно. Нет чайника. Грязный бассейн. Из плюсов: не плохой ассортимент на завтрак.

Disappointing

We had big expectations for the hotel but were sadly disappointed at arrival. The ammenties looked worn down. The staff seemed to have more important things to do than to help their guests. The room looked nice but the bed was not comfortable and the bath did not have a place to hang the shower nozzle so it had to be held by hand. We did not get our welcome drink as promised. They had given our parking away to someone else and were not very helpful about other options. All in all the stay was disappointing - especially given the steep price. The rooms were very clean.

Spitzenlage direkt an der Altstadt von Skopje. Herrliche Dachterrasse. Der Innenpool liegt direkt im Speisesaal und ist eher Deko - man darf darin nicht schwimmen. Nettes Personal - Badezimmer sehr modern.

İş işin değil turistik gezi olsaydı kesinlikle bu otelde kalmazdım. Son gün rezervasyondaki arkadaşın su bile ikram etmemesi sinir bozucuydu. Kesinlikle bir daha konaklama yapmayacağım bir hotel

Bra men kunde vara bätre

Allt har varit ok men vi betalade för mycket gör öl advendade 2 st betalade för sex st. Ingen som har butt sängkläder tyvärr. Städning har varit dålig. Annars att har varit bra. Mvh Joanna
