Great atmosphere; basic room great prive!
Amazing place to stay!
Not my first time. I’ve stayed many times. I love the atmosphere
Great location!
Beautiful!
Perfect
A wonderful experience to stay in a seminary, so close to the cathedral. Breakfast was very good.
Excellent
Really unique place and amazingly helpful staff. Couldn’t have hoped for a better experience! Location was brilliant!
I like that this hotel is very near and walkable to St. James church and square or plaza, the Benedictine monastery and church, shops, restaurants, and 30 minute walk to bus station. My only issue was the very loud tango music from 10pm to around 4AM, which I found out the next day that there was a dance practice for a competition that weekend. The bed spring was a little uncomfortable and heater was overpowered by the cold temperature in December. Breakfast was good. Stayed overnight. Location was very convenient.
Stayed extra 3 days after Camiño to rest and enjoy Santiago de Compestila. Enjoyed the peacefulness, breakfast and dinners.
Cleanliness was flawless. The rooms and furniture are in great shape and everything is spotless. The towels clean and fluffy. The bed linens comfortable and clean. The room has a heater in the bathroom and another one in the room, perfectly comfortable temperature to your taste. The room was just enough for what I needed. It is small but enough. There was a beautiful window with a view of a wonderful inner patio, a desk, a bathroom, and a small bed. During the day it was quiet and peaceful, except if there's children playing on the halls. Late afternoon, people start to come back to the rooms and/or check in and it gets noisy. The bed was too small and my feet were hanging from the bottom. The walls are NOT sound proof and I could hear conversations and snoring. The snoring was unbelievable. LOL like having a bear next door. Although it wasn't even next door it was a couple doors down the hall. My only complain is the noise, everything else was great. Staff was super nice too.
Great staff at an excellent facility!
Muy buena atencion del staff, excelente limpieza , confortable la habitacion.
This is a beautiful place to stay, very atmospheric, very peaceful and very conveniently situated opposite the cathedral.
Best hotel beds ever. No frill rooms but very clean and cozy.
Excellent location, close to the cathedral, pilgrim office and historic centre of Santiago. Beautiful building. Good breakfast and good pilgrim dinner offered.Small, basic rooms but clean.
Historical building Great location in the heart of historical Santiago Kindness and efficiency of the staff Best place to stay when you finish the Camino
A good place to end the Camino Ingles
Beautiful old building, good breakfast, ample hot water, good WiFi .... but very uncomfortable bed and pillows.
If I ever do the Camino de Santiago again, I will definitely make every effort to find a room here. I had a room on the 4th floor with fantastic huge windows, so woke up to a view of red tiled roofs, historic architecture and hills in the background - beautiful. There's a lovely atmosphere here with all the walkers/pilgrims arriving and the location is incredible for the cathedral and all the wonderful eating opportunities nearby.
Friendly staff and great location!
Great location, dissapounting tiny room
Very impressive building of old monastery makes you to expect a fabulous room but the room is very tiny with tiny bathroom and very basic accommodations. Lication is unbeatable and the service is good. The description says bar and lounge on the premises but the bar cloaed 2 years ago...
Excellent location in historical building.
I've been staying after walking various Caminos at Hospederia San Martin Pinario in Santiago de Compostela since 2005. Each time I have stayed there, I have found the staff to be very friendly and helpful, the venue clean simple and comfortable and the location to be really excellent. I keep recommending Hospederia San Martin Pinario to everyone I know - my friends and contacts. Well done to everyone concerned. Thank you.
This property was absolutely beautiful. The staff were extremely friendly and our room was very comfortable.
This property is in a perfect location. The price is great.
Stunning old monastery. They have kept so many of the features Right beside the cathedral.Perfect locatin
St. Martin's by the Cathedral!
My son and I were just finishing the Camino. We stayed here - it was very convenient. We could get our meals right here and they were delicious. It was also adjacent to Santiago Cathedral. It was an old world seminary. We loved it and everyone was so nice! Thank you Aleksander!
Cold hotel
Hotel is cold, room are so small.
Good place to stay for pilgrimage folk. Old monastery building renovated inside next door to the cathedral. Walking distance to many good Spanish restaurants in the 1 km radius.
Adjacent to cathedral of St. James in Compostela
I love the convenience of this Hospederia since I prefer to be at the Cathedral area. It is steeped in history and has its own relaxing vibe from the garden to its large dining hall with daily meals. My only complaint is the little beds are not luxurious but its location and the rest, as usual it was good to be back there as last visit was May 2019.
An old friend Great location Not often available but I’d stay here any chance I get
If you are visiting because you are doing El Camino de Santiago this place is the ideal place to stay. It’s an amazing place with wonderful energy, you feel like you are walking through the pages of history. Service was wonderful and the food was great too but nothing beats the ambiance. Looking forward to visiting again!
The receptionists are outstanding people. Very detail-oriented and friendly
Right beside cathedral. Old historic building . Real pleasure to be there. Staff are friendly Rooms are basic , almost monk style but have everything you need. Shower was brilliant. This is a repeat visit for me! ( breakfast is now pre packed because of covid but previously was outstanding buffet)
Very lovely place to stay in. Staff were very friendly. Great location.
Very good stay.
Very tranquil stay. Keep this place secret. Its so nice. Just what i needed.
Did not want to provide me with complimentary shampoo and made it very difficult to get a refund on a breakfast option that was uneatable.
Spectacular building
Spectacular building - very similar to the Parador. Room exactly as in the photographs. Some nice areas for sitting in communal spaces. Facilities closed for coronavirus which was a shame, but expected. Staff on reception friendly and helpful. Had requested a quiet room, but were given one facing a noisy road rather than the courtyard. Bathroom plumbing and noise from other rooms very noticeable.
Fit for a convent, not fit for a hotel.
Nobody stated this is a religious retreat, chants all day, curfew at night after midnight (door is closed), cold with scheduled heating which isn’t enough at all, and tiny tiny rooms no tv.
Excellent location, classic feel
Conveniently located, good for the price, staff was really like sent form heaven....definitely will talk about it to friends and family and of course will consider staying over again.....
After walking the Camino Del Norte, Primitivo, and out to Finisterre and Muxia, my single room in Hospedería San Martín Pinario provided the perfect setting for my final couple of nights in Santiago de Compostela. The room was simple yet superb. It provided all ion the modern conveniences while retaining the character of the Monastery. Just being within this incredible structure filled me with awe, to then have a room here was the icing on the cake. The Dining Room is simply stunning, the meals providing an opportunity to connect with others. The staff were incredibly helpful allaying any concerns about my early morning departure which then became totally fuss free. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Beautiful setting in a 16th century monastery. Simple but very clean rooms. Friendly service.
The location was great, I have stayed there before. The staff is very nice.
Excellent location next to the Cathedral, but very basic accommodation and small rooms. There is no space to open luggage in double room.
So close to the Cathedral and the square where there is so much activity. Atmosphere pure from all the Pilgrims.
Perfect ending
If you’re walking the Camino, it is the perfect place to stay in Santiago. Incredible location next to the cathedral. Rooms are perfectly simple and very clean.
Staying in Santiago de Coimpostela
A beautiful building very well located and lovely views the rooms a bit to basic and small
Very nice Would love to stay here again Food was great
Former seminary turned hotel
This is in the converted Major Seminary of Santiago, and has two floors for pilgrim rooms, and two other floors with hotel rooms (more comfortable). Rooms are former seminarians cells, and are compact, but each rom has its own ensuite bathroom with modern facilities and excellent showers. Front desk service is efficient and staff have good English. The breakfast room is in a large older room and has a fairly good selection at the buffet, but the noise of returned pilgrims exchanging experiences can be a bit noisy at times. The dining room offers a good value menu de dia.
I strongly recommend everyone to this lovely hotel
very good experience. We truly enjoyed our stay. Your dinner and breakfast is very good, tasty and reasonable. very good.
Rua Villar—yes please!
What a fantastic stay! We booked an extra night in Santiago de Compostela—we completed 5 days on the Camino the day before, and Hotel Rua Villar was the perfect spot! The location was a 10 out of 10, the staff were 11 out of 10 (seriously) and we hope to come back some day.
Excellent location. Overall good
Single room was good but shower room so tiny, and bed frame makes noise.
I've stayed here twice, both times after completing the Camino de Santiago. Wonderful respite from the long walk and soothing to the spirit as well!
Nice place to stay after your camino
This was the second camino frances for my wife and me. We stayed at San Martin Pinario in 2015, so it was an easy decision to stay here again. We stayed two nights. The location is fantastic, right by the Cathedral. The room and bathroom were small, but clean and comfortable and the price was very reasonable. We also had one breakfast, one lunch and one dinner and all were fine. We will definitely stay here again during our third camino!
Beautiful restored monastery
In the heart of Santiago beautiful in its simplicity. Very helpful and friendly staff Breakfast was good with lots of variety
Great location! Really cool that it's an old Monastery! My only complaint is that our shower was TINY! We had a nice stay.
Highly recommended
Such a great hotel, very clean and in good condition. The bathroom is very small, but does the trick. The only thing I didn't like was the pillow - there's only one long pillow for a couple to share. Otherwise, highly recommended!
A beautiful place to stay for the itinerant pilgrim. Excellent dinning room staff that serves good food for a very reasonable price. The decor is simple but tasteful that showcases the history of the building.
Experience a convent
Minimal comfort. Small room no AC. Stay to experience a convent. Better choices close by.
Excellent service, superb location.
The service here is excellent. We particularly enjoyed the community cafe area where Fernando ensured our comfort and enjoyment.
Expensive for pilgrims in regular room.
This is a beautiful building and very centrally located. Staff were very friendly. As two pilgrims who just completed the walk from St. Jean, we thought we would treat ourselves. In reality, the room was not as comfortable as some of the double rooms we stayed in at private albergues for about one-sixth of the price. It was particularly frustrating that the windows could only be cracked about an inch as there were chains, presumably for safety reasons, that prohibited windows from being opened. It was stifling hot and very uncomfortable. There was no shampoo.
Incredible location and ambiance
Right next to the cathedral. Cavernous calm beautiful building where many pilgrims were reunited. Bedrooms simple but perfect for needs. Refectory and common room and with many eateries on the doorstep.
Great location, great building
Best location possible for a great price but staff using guests lifts for bring up and down the leaning trolleys when most guests are checking out and making them use the stairs with lots off luggage is not ideal.
Great locations
Great accommodations in the middle of the historic district
Excellent find
Fabulous converted building right in the heart of the old city, excellent feel and great breakfast. just don't try and drive through the old town in the afternoon.
Staying in a historical gem
Stayed at the hotel prior to the Camino. It is very clean and tidy but lacking the creature comforts such as tv that some travellers demand. We found it excellent as the location could not be bettered, the service was extremely efficient and the rooms were simple but very comfortable. There is an excellent buffet breakfast that filled the pilgrim's for the day ahead. A quirky, but very classy and highly enjoyable experience
Great location right by the cathedral.
Loved being right in the historic area, many great eating areas nearby.
A Great Place to Stay.
I love staying at Hospederia San Martin Pinario in Santiago de Compostela. This is about my tenth time staying at Hospederia San Martin Pinario and each time I am impressed by the quality and standard of the service I receive. The friendliness, helpfulness and professionalism of the staff - from the Front Desk, to the Restaurant and to the Housekeeping staff - is second to none. My stay was perfect. Thank you to all concerned.
Camino Santiago de Copostela
A wonderful historic hotel with beautiful courtyard. Room was basic but comfortable. Breakfast was a good variety and the evening meal was affordable and home style cooking
Great place for pilgrims
The rooms are very basic; this used to be a monastery. On the other hand it is clean centrally located the staff is very helpful and very friendly. A sea of tranquility in a storm of the real world. If you want quiet reflection easy access to all of Santiago's holy sights this place is perfect.
Converted monastery in the heart of the old city
We stayed a night in an inexpensive double room that had everything we wanted. Small mod bathroom with good hot water shower. Local views. A lift. None of the unnecessary mod cons such as tv or hairdryer. But very comfortable beds, clean, terrazzo floors, quiet room and great vibe. Friendly and efficient staff. Tastefully modernised 14th century monastery. I'd stay again.
Nice hotel close to all the sights
Very comfortable, serene stay in the middle of a bustling area of the old town. Something of a Mecca for Pilgrims who have completed their walk and are perhaps now ready for a bit more comfort but without pretentions!
Great location, erratic service
This former monastery is perfectly located across the square from the Cathedral. The public areas of the building are astonishingly well preserved. However, rooms are basic - metal beds and spartan decor etc. We lucked out on the price in June, around €50 per night - I have been checking out the possibility of staying there again in the Autumn but sites are quoting prices four/five times higher than what we paid, so pricing and availability seem random and erratic, as were the people who worked there! Staff were aloof and less than efficient but we didn't have to deal with them too often.
As advertised
This is a nice simple hotel with small rooms but immaculately clean. As advertised. The restaurant was great with inexpensive food, well prepared. We would stay here again.
Recommendable
It was very comfortable and clean at a perfect location. Very good value for the price as well.
At home in Santiago
Ideal location in Center of old town. Authentic historic hotel. Double room was small, twin bedroom more spacious. Great breakfast value.
This was our first visit to Compostela and we enjoyed it very much. The staff were friendly, efficient and courteous. The temperature of the whole building was on the cool side, otherwise it was an excellent experience.
Great Location and ambience
It's half a converted monastery ( the other half is still occupied by monks) next door to the Cathedral in the middle of a lively town. Basic but well adapted. Superb value compared with nearby hotels
A privilege to stay in a wonderful building.
Wonderful stay in minimalist historical surroundings in a great location with very friendly staff.
Excellent value - difficult to find any fault!
Beautiful, spacious, old stone building in central location next to Cathedral, skilfully converted with all essential mod-cons. Rooms spotless, beds comfortable, fast lift, staff friendly. Cafe, restaurant (limited menu) and souvenir shop on site. Many guests are pilgrims from the Camino.
Acessible to all amenities specially Cathedral
Nice place to see around specially if you are here for Pilgrimageas Christian Catholic
Great location.
A perfect end to the Camino. It is a beautiful hotel full of history. The location is perfect and the price is very reasonable. Be warned, it doesn't have air conditioning. However, with the windows open we didn't find that to be a problem.
I have stayed at San Martin Pinario a few times & love it. The rooms are small but clean, comfortable & quiet. Fabulous location at a great price. Service is unobtrusive yet attentive.
Perfect location.
Great hotel to end the Camino. Lots of people were there from the walk; and it was a great meeting spot. It was also right across from the entrance to the cathedral which was convenient.
Never Paid So Much For So Little.
We rented this hotel because it was close to Catedral de Santiage de Compostela and we were finishing our Camino. Later, we would find that the hotel has a special rate for "peregrinos" that is about half what we were charged. We were not informed of this peregrino discount at check in, though it must have been obvious that is what we were. When we asked about this, we were told we had to have asked about it when we checked in--I guess you are supposed to magically just know. Our room was clean and had a magnificent view of the city, though it was very monastic and spartan. The Hospideria is a beautiful if slightly chilly building and still functions as a monastery and as a haven for those who have completed the Camino de Santiago. However, the day staff were rude to the point of being hostile and were terribly impatient with my efforts to speak to them in Spanish. Evening staff was much more pleasant and did not mind that I had difficulties with the language. The food was pedestrian and expensive. The hotel was the most expensive we rented the whole time we were in Spain, had one of the smallest rooms, and the fewest amenities (including heat, apparently)
Very near Catedral
Very satisfactory
Spent 5 nights in this lovely hotel.Rooms are very basic, no tv, 2 single beds. Great breakfast and awesome location
Excellent for ending our camino but be aware!
There are two types of rooms. Ones they call 'refurbished' and where you are charged 45€ and ones that they call 'older' and charge 25€ for. I saw both and there is little difference. Call and book because when you book online hey automatically put you in the refurbished rooms at the higher rate. Know that the rooms are spartan and heating was minimal. Otherwise, great location, great for the money. Breakfast is plentiful and included.
Right in the center of the old city
Imposing historical building across a small square from the cathedral.Excellent buffet breakfast served in the refectory, lunch and supper also available, large portions, good value. Lovely common areas. Rooms very clean.Pleasant reception staff.Computer with Internet access available for a small fee.
A Great Place to Stay in Santiago de Compostela.
Once again, The Hospederia San Martin Pinario was excellent. Six friends and work colleagues of mine did the Camino Fisterra & Muxia and we stayed at the Hospederia San Martin Pinario at the end of our trip for one night before returning to Ireland (wish we could have stayed longer). The staff at the Reception, in the Dining Hall and for our Room Service were most helpful and courtious. I cannot speak highly enough about this hotel and its staff. I look forward to re-visiting Hospederia San Martin Pinario again in 2014.
Fantastic location
A very beautiful experience staying in this hotel located in the heart of this ancient city.
Brilliant place to stay
This is a brilliant place to stay.
great special offer
lovely
Spectacular finale to a month on the camino
If you evre walk the camino de Santiago, arrive in the city and stay with all of your newly found friends in the Albergue Menor for the first night, BUT after that there is no better place to stay than San Martin. Closer to the cathederal than even the £300 a night Parador and with a continued pilgrims feel, it is just the perfect end to a perfect month.
Historic stay
This hotel is situated in an ancient building and the room is held in a style suited to its character, so it is not a comfortable hotel room even if the bed is OK as is the bathroom. There is no air conditioning or TV but as I was preparing to walk the Camino it suited me fine. Breakfast was OK.
Santiago/El Camino
Excellent location right next to the Cathedral. Clean, friendly staff, and ideal for after the Camino based on all factors. Would recommend every time unless you have the money to stay at the Parador.
Surrounding exterior square teems with interest.
Expensive update of original monastery with loss of its past character. Attic rooms small and less expensive (you'll really feel like monk).
Another Great Stay - A Brilliant Hotel. I have stayed at this hotel approx six times over the last 5 years and each time I found the staff excellent, friendly professional and helpful. I cannot reccommend this hotel enough.

A basic stay in Santiago de Compostela
This property was formerly a seminary, and while it has been upgraded to become a hotel, it is very basic -- small shower, small bed, basic linens. The location is fabulous and the staff is very helpful -- a trade off for the spartan comfort.
