Fantastic building and thoughtful restoration Fantastic and friendly staff
Great hotel!
Lovely hotel - so glad we stayed here. Room very comfortable and clean. Staff extremely helpful and efficient. We thought the food was excellent - both evening meals and breakfasts.
What an absolute gem!
What an absolute gem. The Hospederias are a small group of hotels run by the regional government of Extremedura (one of the 17 autonomous communities that make up Spain). This one's building was a 15th century palace and has been sympathetically extended to add modern accommodation, meeting rooms, etc in a linked block. It is a few (and only a few) kms off the beaten track of the A66 (autovia del plata) and more than worth the effort to get there. Staff were very helpful and friendly despite a fairly significant language barrier. Good secure parking.
Fantastic location
Fantastic place but very quiet when we were there. Dinner was very good but we were the only people in the restaurant. Breakfast was very disappointing. We had to ask for bread and the waitress didn’t understand any english. Would like to go back when there is more activity around. Location is fantastic
Dramatic 16 century location, while still having some beautiful modern amenities and bedrooms. The breakfast was good and meals in the hotel are top notch. Its a quiet town so a good place to recharge. The town is not friendly per se, but the tour guide and staff at a more hip restaurant on the edge of town are fantastic and made the trip a great experience.
Enjoyable stay but hotel is in need of some tlc
Beautiful old building (with new extension). We were in the old building and had to move rooms - the heating wasn’t working (our stay was in December!). Staff were extremely helpful and apologetic and upgraded us to a superior room....with heating.....although Wi-fi didn’t work in the new room! In reality, bedrooms and bathrooms were tired and are in serious need of updating if it is to retain a 4* status.....cleanliness was just acceptable. Maybe the modern wing is a better option? However central location and parking good (no charge) and we enjoyed the hotel restaurant (although breakfast nothing special).
Beatiful building with some slight drawbacks
A beautiful converted 15th century convent. There were plenty of wow moments as you look around at facade and reception and the puclic spaces. All high ceilings and archways and old stone. Our bedroom was very spacious with a lovely comfortable big bed. The bathroom was a little below the high standards elsewhere. Shower was good but fan didnt work. Sadly the breakfast was very disappointing. Okay...it was Mid Decembet and hotel was quiet but all we got was some microwaved croissants and a slice of toast with a variety of plastic packed pates and jams. Overall it was well worth a second visit as the central location and character conpensated for the small shortcomings.
Historic hotel in old town
Beautiful converted Palace with pool and excellent restaurant
Fantastic
A superb hotel a little gem will definitely be back for a longer stay
Historic hotel setting with lovely service
The hotel is in a historic castle, which made for a very unique setting. We stayed in the original part of the building (there is also a newer addition), and we enjoyed the character and the windows overlooking the town square. If you alternatively prefer a more updated ambiance and bathroom, you can request a room in the addition. The hotel faces the town square, which had two restaurant/bar areas where some locals gathered in the evening. We had to leave before breakfast started the morning we left, so the staff prepared us a plate of croissants, breads and jams, and made us a fresh cup of coffee for us in the morning. We enjoyed our stay here, very pleasant hotel for a small town!
Superb
This is an amazing hidden gem of a hotel with superb staff and a great location. The service was very friendly and professional and first class. The breakfast wasn't brilliant - could have been better, and the Spa was closed when we were there. I would echo other reviews - there isn't much in terms of restaurants around and they do eat late, so be prepared. Other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would absolutely recommend this.
Nice countryside gateway
Nice 4 star hotel, housed in a XVI building, wisely restored, in the main squre a lovely Etrameno village. Rooms are nice and confortable. Friendly staff and generous typical breakfast. Good restaurant (a bit priced for the area).
The old building is very attractive and has been well renovated. The modern extensions and interior design are less successful. Room condition OK but very small, with furnishings reminiscent of the earlier IKEA period. Balcony helpful though so less cabin fever than there would have been without one. Although fixed price menu was cheap at 18 Euros, the quantities were very small and inadequate, especially meat. The hotel is located on a remarkaby large, but virtually deserted, town square so is very quiet. We could not find any alternative restaurants within walking distance. A saving grace is that the town is very easy to get out of for visiting surrounding areas.
Great base from which to explore Extremadura.
Lovely old building which has been sensitively converted into a comfortable hotel with modern amenities, set in a charming small town. The quality of food in the restaurant was mainly good and breakfast was excellent. Only a couple of minor complaints: there was a bad odour coming from the air conditioning in our room and our beds had waterproof mattress covers when we first arrived - very clammy and uncomfortable in the Spanish summer though I could understand the need had it been a family room (we are a senior couple). To be fair, housekeeping removed mine when I took it off and laid it to one side. The swimming pool was beautifully clean with comfortable sun beds and ample showers. Towels for use at the pool would have been a welcome addition.
3 nights at Garrovillas
We are mature motorcyclists, who love riding around Spain. In 2010 we stayed 1 night at garrovillas and loved its quality nd off the beaten track location. This year 6 of us stayed for 3 nights as part of a round Spain tour. The hotel is a wonderful building with friendly staff, and good facilities. The area is very rural and quiet, and the village is traditional, with no real nightlife for the tourist, i.e. just what we wanted. Parking on site is safe and secure, the restaurant good and above all the cost reasonable. The only slight criticism is that the bathroom in our room needed refreshing, although everything worked. A hotel worth finding and enjoying. Richard W

great stay, well worth a visit
We really enjoyed the historic aspect of the hotel and the way it has been modernized for comfort, while preserving the historic building. The room was very comfortable and spacious. We had both breakfast and dinner in the hotel restaurant and both meals were wonderful. We particularly appreciated the excellent customer service by Rocio in the bar/restaurant and Guadeloupe at the front desk. They both were very friendly and helpful.
