Honey Badger Lodge has a cabin like feel to the hotel. The property is well maintained and has wildlife like monkeys and tortoise which were pleasent to see. Some things it can improve on are being prepard for clients arrival. When we checked in, the lamp in our room did not have a lightbulb, and we were given flashlights to use on our first night. The temperature inside the room was also quite warm and one fan was not sufficient in our family suit. Lastly, service during breakfast was painstakingly slow - just a slice of toast took 15 mins for the staff to bring. The lodge is made beautifully. It is quiet and relaxing, but can improve in the coustomer service department.
Staff was very attentive. Clean, quiet and good wifi
over-rated and over-priced
I found the lodge over priced and over rated. It was not happy about me booking through hotels.com and queried my payment despite booking being guaranteed and my payment being shown as paid. they badgered me about payment on a number of occasions which forced me to call my bank in UK and hotels.com directly. it is also a long way from town centre and room 10 on road and by carpark was noisy.
Great Spot!
Amazing from Start to Finish. Food, ambiance and staff were fantastic!
The Honey Badger was above and beyond our expectations. The staff were wonderful and accommodating. Chef Kristin’s food was amazing and we did not have a bad meal our entire trip. We booked the Chemka Hotsprings through the honey Badger and it was a great day trip! We also did the cooking lessons and can now make traditional dishes for our family when we go home. Everything was wonderful. I would highly recommend the honey Badger for anyone visiting Moshi or needing a place to stay before/after hiking Kili!
The omelets were excellent in the morning. That meal was very good and well served. We ate no other meals there.
Beautiful pool area and good food at decent prices, though higher than other local restaurants. Found some of the staff unhelpful and theydidnt offer up any options for local attractions or tours or really any information. Rooms are okay but there are better and less expensive options in town.
Honey Badger is a Great Retreat!
We were staying in Moshi as part of a volunteer trip and had been to Honey Badger before for drinks and swimming, but never to stay overnight. We decided to book a room on Hotels.com for a Saturday and loved our stay. The staff there is friendly, professional and accommodating. They are there to make sure you have a comfortable stay. We had lunch and dinner there, too, and the food is lovely, as well. The room was spacious and comfortable. Quiet! The grounds are impressive. Well kept. Relaxing. We will definitely be back as day guests and as hotel guests, too!
Not a bad stay
The hotel was fine; they had a nice open area near the pool with a bar that people were congregating at. The rooms have no a/c and we had a 3 bed room so that a few of us could room together but there's no door on the shower which made that challenging since it was a mix of men and women traveling together.
Great swimming pool!!!
We stayed here two nights before heading on Safari. The hotel is great and you can tell there is a lot of attention to detail in ensuring this business has a positive social impact (They sponsor a school, rely on solar energy, etc.) The hotel has great common spaces and a fantastic swimming pool and bar. Be aware that it is a bit away from Moshi, so not ideal if you want to explore the city or do some shopping.
Beautiful grounds and pool, clean & bright rooms
My partner and I were really looking for an escape for the evening from busy Moshi to celebrate our anniversary. It was perfect for this! The grounds of the place are gorgeous - leafy, quiet and the pool is fantastic. The rooms are bright and large, and the shower had wonderful hot water. We loved the food, too! There were a couple of minor downsides..the wifi doesn't extend to the rooms, and that at night, there was just rugby playing, and no music to enjoy. The dining area could also use a little more light to eat dinner under :).
very relaxing holidays
We came here already the second time for one week. It is a marvellous place to relax (also often used after climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro). The pool is clear and big enough to swim but also ideal for children. The site is well arranged with palms and bananaplants. You never feel cramped. Also the rooms are spacious. The staff is very kind, the breakfast is great. Worth its price!
Resort is out of town which suited us as it was very quiet. You really feel you are in Africa when staying here with outdoor casual eating and very cheap beer. Staff are very eager to please.
This was a 2 day stopover so only used as rest stop but hotel was clean and comfortable Staff very helpful in arranging trip into Moshi and Airport transfers Nice clean pool and very good food at a reasonable price Quiet place to chill out
Honey Badger
Rooms need more light and furniture. Chairs and small table would suffice. Staff hospitality was superb.
Nice place to relax
Excellent place to unwind and relax after a long trip or safari. About 15 mins drive from city center.
disappointing
I was disappointed to see there was no T. V. except at the bar where you had to drink to watch. The rooms were large but floors were stained cement and shower water had a strange smell. Everything was minimum at best except for the list of rules and not-alloweds! The food was so slow, though good when it finally came. the staff was friendly but always watching the pool area to scold over the slightest infraction-eg. a room towel brought out, a crumb tossed to the local wild-life.
Nice volunteer getaway..
The Honey Badger was an awesome break from the volunteer work I do in Arusha as a volunteer college instructor and curriculum developer. Very quiet and peaceful, beautiful grounds, reasonable price, caring staff and terrific food -- Tam sana! Just there for a night while in Moshi, wished I could have stayed longer.
Friendly staff at a reasonably good location.
Hotel is good and at a nice location. Staff also friendly. Very good view of Kilimanjaro from the hotel.
“Great place to unwind, great owner and wonderful
We relaxed at the Honey Badger to recuperate from our climb up Mt. Kilimanjaro for a few days. We were warmly greeted and made to feel comfortable and at home at once. Our room was much bigger than expected..... and the pool and grounds were immaculately kept. The staff were genuinely friendly, helpful and accommodating. Every meal was really tasty and sometimes big enough to share with someone. The owner Joseph, took time to talk to us, show us owls that we would never have seen on our own,..and answered all our questions. What we found most satisfying is that the lodge gives back to the community, such as the school they run for small kids. We were fortunate to visit it briefly to drop off some school supplies that we had brought with us. The exuberant children there sang us such a loud welcome song that we could only smile form ear to ear. I would absolutely recommend this Lodge to anyone who needs a few days of quiet. Room Tip: I would suggest taking a room that is in the area where the swimming pool and bar are.
Oasis in village
Staff was very attentive. Room very spacious and nice. Grounds were beautiful with nice pool
very good price to quality ratio
good location. comfortable. nice food. lush grounds. friendly staff.
Staffs are friendly and helpful.
The lodge is peaceful atmosphere. The staffs are approachable and friendly. However they are delayed in delivering food. So I would recommend to order and tell them the timing in advance. I would come back here anyway. Anything else was nice and would make me forgive them just about that.
A Hidden Gem!
I stayed here for 5 nights and was completely thrilled with the property, restaurant, staff, pricing of everything and comfort of the room! Everything worked which was fantastic and not something I am accustomed to in Moshi. I've used a few different hotels over the years and this one was by far the best and I'm already making plans for next year when I return! The hotel is a bit out of the way but that's really nice as it's very quiet and a taxi ride into town is very inexpensive. I met both the owners who are fantastic people and always readily available if needed. Thanks guys for a fantastic time!
Great for a post Kilimanjaro stay
Very friendly and helpful staff, great pool, no AC, food very good, slow WiFi and only in the common areas .... which are great. I'd definitely stay again!
Nice accommodation with pool
Good hotel and pool. Food was also good. You can even see Mount Kilimanjaro from the entrance, nice photo opp.
Awesome value - great owners
The owners make Honey Badger exceptional. Jenny and Joey are a fascinating couple committed to positively impacting their community. The lodge is there means for doing that. It is a small oasis next to a village, near Kilimanjaro and Moshi. Rooms are quite nice, food varied and well prepared, staff very service oriented and friendly. Prices are generally quite reasonable - check out the great prices on locally made crafts. Side trips are good in variety-can be a touch expensive. We enjoyed the forest and village walk. This is not a high end hotel; it is an awesome, value priced oasis.
Relaxing Stay
I spent three nights here after two weeks of climbing Kili and a safari. It was a much needed quiet and relaxing getaway. The hotel was clean and the staff were exceptional, some of them getting to know me on a first name basis! The owners greeted everyone once they arrived and it was nice to see the two of them and their family at the lodge on the weekend. The pool was refreshing and a great day to spend the afternoon. The hotel is located a bit outside of Moshi but it's only a short drive away (and the hotel does provide a driver). I would def recommend this hotel to any future guests. And it's also pretty incredible all that they do for the community:)
Lovely place to stay|
Had a very relaxing 2 days at the lodge. The staff were exceptionally helpful, and the whole place spotless. The rooms were basic but very clean and comfortable. The shower was not powerful but always hot. Monkeys played in the trees by the pool and brightly coloured lizards were everywhere. Very relaxing. Did not try the expeditions but they looked interesting
Fantastic hotel
Its one of the best place i have ever stayed.
Great African feel
We were looking for a hotel in for our pre and post Kilimanjaro climb that had an African feel to it. Honey Badger was an excellent choice. The cottage we stayed in was comfortable and quiet (much needed after climbing Kili!). We found the open reception/lounge area to be very relaxing. The evening dinners they served on site each night were delicious.
Out of regular hotel stay
The hotel concept is different and uniquely designed. It is commendable to contribute to the local Artisans in a way to have their things displayed and used in hotel. The hotel has a big campus with a nice swimming pool . Good for relaxation purpose.
comfortable place to stay in moshi
We stayed here prior to leaving for a safari, as well as upon our return. The rooms are large, comfortable and clean. Breakfast is included daily and is a full English breakfast. Lunch and dinner are served daily but not included. There is a set menu each day. We never ate lunch at the lodge but the dinners were usually local dishes and pretty good. The staff was really helpful and responsive- they were able to serve us breakfast early on our departure days and even stored our baggage for us for the 4 days we were gone on a safari. We felt very safe and comfortable during our stay at Honey Badger. The pool is nice. It seems to be family friendly as well.
Nice quiet location in Moshi
Comfortable stay with good staff
great hidden lodge
Fantastic and friendly place with a great atmosphere and good WiFi service.
Great place to and in Kilimanjaro
A perfect launching pad for a kili trek or safari. Friendly staff and comfortable/clean accommodation at a great price.
Community focused, green minded, good hearted
We only had one night, but definitely wished for more. Had a thoroughly enjoyable stay, made even more remarkable by running into an old friend. Staff were helpful and friendly. Solar lighting, water mindfulness, generally a good approach.
Friendly, pleasant staff.
Stayed here after trekking up Kili. It is a pleasant hideaway with friendly staff who cannot do enough for you. The room was comfortable with a comfy bed and constant hot water for showers. The meals were delicious, and if you didn't like the set meals on offer, the staff would offer alternatives. I stayed here with my son and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. We are planning to return next year.
Good basic lodge.
The rooms are very basic on a concrete floor, nothing fancy; no air conditioning or fan, it can get quite hot at night, no tray to put your soap in the shower and no toilet paper holder, just a small basket. There are also no closed windows, therefore you will hear the dogs barking at night and the chickens in the morning. All this being said, the place has a certain charm, well manucured gardens and a great pool. The food is basic, for dinner one apetizer, 1 choice of main coarse with rice and vegetable and desert, but all was tasty and not too spicy. Breakfast was basic english breakfast, coffee and juice. This place is also far from the city center, you will need to take a taxi or Dalat-dalat and not much around this area. The staff is very nice and helpful.
Great Introduction to Tanzania.
Enjoyed our stay. . Staff friendly and the food was delicious.
5 BIG STARS
We really enjoyed our stay, Jenny and Joseph are superb hosts with a lovely family,Jenny in particular could be a 5 star Concierge in any 5 star hotel in the world. The food is excellent and menus change daily, the full English breakfast is exactly that and staff are friendly and obliging. The gardens are beautiful and immaculately kept book here and you will not regret it they have accomodation for all budgets, highly recommended
The place to stay in Moshi - definitely
This is the place to stay if you come to Moshi - hands down. My biggest issue was making sure when I landed from 19 hours of flying - someone was definitely at Kili Airport to pick me up - they took care of it. I accidentally grabbed the wrong luggage and didn't realize until that night - I have never ever done that traveling. They completely helped me get back to the airport, get my luggage, get to KLM to return the poor guys luggage I accidentally picked up. They took me to town, got me transport to the airport and back...no issues. Joseph is one nice guy! Everyone loves him. The bar is great there -you meet so many people from all over.$2 Serengeti beer - EXCELLENT. Very clean rooms - I brushed my teeth with tap - filtered. No issue. Beds are really comfortable and large. I believe each room has a Queen, a full and a single - 3 people could have easily stayed with me. Nice shower. Excellent food - you want to eat there - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hands down - this is where you feel like family and are taken care of. They help coordinate lots of safaris, Kili climbs, etc. They have short trips available to coffee plantations for $40. Very reasonable to have them help you coordinate your side trips. For me, Safari arrangement it much more affordable once you are HERE and in Moshi than when I was looking online in the U.S. Have them help you.
Supert!
Great place when travel by car
Nice room and great breakfast. Parking is inside hotel area and protected.
Happy customer
I stayed at Honey Badger after my safari and kili climb in oct 2018. I was happily suprised by the good standard and comfort of this hotel compared to others in the area. In African standards, i think the quality and comfort is as good as they come in this price. The rooms were big and clean, mosquito nettings around the bed and windows and a decent shower. My only complaint about the room is that there is no AC, only a floor fan. The hotel has a very tropical feel to it. Beautiful pool and gardens with monkeys running around keeping you company. I have to compliment the resturant as well. The food was very good with alot og variety for both vegetarien and meat lovers. However the hotel mainly serves a fusion between local and international cuisine, personally i would loved to see more traditional dishes. The staff was always helpful and fluent in english, and the manager was always walking around making sure the guests enjoyed their stay. They also offer some activites, like safari, kili climb, waterfall day trip and coffee plantation tour. I personally did both waterfall and coffee whitch i can recommend. However abit pricey. My negative comnebts about this hotel are its location. It is located about 25 min outside moshi town, down a bumpy road with almost nothing around to see or do within walking distance. Also there is not much to do at the hotel itself other than the pool
Best place in town
This is a great place to stay with excellent facilities including a very nice swimming pool and good restaurant. The income of the Honey Badger Lodge is beneficial to the education of local children in the community. This lodge can organize all kind of activities. We visited a chagga village, waterfall and coffee plantation.
Honey Badger Lodge | Home in Moshi | Travala.com
Honey Badger Lodge has a wilderness safari lodge feel. The rooms are simple, clean and comfortable. The staff was attentive and friendly. The pool is well maintained and I enjoyed swimming and sunning by the pool. I would definitely stay at Honey Badger again.
