Spacious and clean comfortable rooms. Convenient valet parking. Friendly staff. The dining option at the hotel is limited but it is walking distance to many good restaurants. Great location close to Northwestern Campus.
The Orrington is always a great place to stay. However this time one elevator not working made going up and down to our room not so pleasant. Wonderful professional lovely staff
Light sleepers beware
Hotel is renovating. No notice of renovation on the website. It sounded like jackhammers will directly above our room. You could hear any and all noise, from nearby rooms, the halls, toilets flushing. Luckily, renovation was on hold over the weekend. Staff was very friendly. Good location. Can’t really make room dark with provided shade. Room was very small (NYC small) and was a “Deluxe King”. Could barely turn around in the bathroom.
The staff is incredibly polite, helpful, and communicative.
Clean hotel with plenty of fun options in the area.
Just lovely. The staff was friendly and helpful, the building was full of amenities, and the room was everything you could want.
Beautifully updated property.
They have Valet Parking. Clean, comfortable rooms. Ours was newly renovated. Friendly staff. Walked to many good restaurants. Bobs Pizza was open late till 1 am and had delicious pizzas.
Staff at the front desk were amazing.
Clean, well staffed and professional. Did not get room asked for.
The staff there is amazing and super helpful and friendly!! Not a fan of parking charges per night or parking situation there. However, really good and comfortable hotel overall.
Our room was spacious and very comfortable. The bathroom was very tiny though. With such a huge room the tiny bathroom seems strange.
Close to campus. Clean and safe.
I was lucky enough to be in one of the newly renovated rooms and it was lovely. The staff, especially Sophia, were excellent and very friendly.
Hotel seemed clean but the more you looked the more gross it became. The shower had hair & black mold (or maybe bugs?) in it upon arrival, there was a broken tile in front of the door/toilet, and dust was caked onto lamp shades. Both glasses that were left for water were dirty & the remote for the TV didn’t work. Also, two power outlets did not work on the lamps which made charging personal items impossible. I have a video of the tub.
We always enjoy stayin at the Orrington!
It was very nice peaceful, not much to worry about
The doors and entry ways all need a painting or update, other than that it seemed to be in good shape.
I enjoyed my time
The whole lobby was under construction… made for a loud and dusty experience. Staff seemed a bit pushy … didn’t feel warmly welcomed.
The lobby looks nothing like the photos on Expedia. My room smelled terribly & unclean, told no other room but not true. 2nd room across from construction, plastic on ground, no TV signal, heater kept coming on loud all nite. Will not stay here again.
Close to campus, big rooms
This may be the worst property I’ve stayed at in the last ten years of travel. The lack of cleanliness was shocking and the overall condition is just so bad. I had a first where a window would not close and they had the opening duck taped with holes in it. Bathroom much to be desired as well with broken sink, TP holder and mold in room.
It was near a lit of dining & shopping places. Near the lake which is lovely. The room just seemed a bit run down.
I would say the peoperty and service was really nice. The reason I chose this place was because of the electric vehicle charging station. But unfortunately it wasnt working while I was there and there is no parking for the property which is very disappointing, although there is valet option at an additional cost.
We had a bedbug in our room. Also the renovation leaves a lot to be desired. There was nothing special about this hotel and I definitely would not return. Alexander is the only positive thing happening at the hotel.
Great location . Easy access and friendly staff . I would recommend
Neat Near Northwestern
Nice hotel with comfortable rooms, a decent fitness room, and a credible onsite restaurant in the heart of Evanston and near NU campus. Staff was friendly and professional, and rooms were reasonable. Only negative was learning that construction was underway AFTER check in, though they did try to be accommodating.
The staff was great and accessible
Excellent place to stay, very nice room, quiet and comfy
Convenient and clean hotel. Only negative is that they were having construction. Staff was super friendly and welcoming. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The beds were great. We were right next to Northwestern campus and we felt that the hotel was in a clean, safe location. We were surprised by how many wonderful restaurants were in walking distance. We walked around Evanston and it's a quaint and beautiful town. Target and Whole Foods are minutes away.
There is no parking
Apparently this hotel is under renovation and I clearly did not get a renovated room. I was in room 324 which was about as bare as a hospital room - had a non-functional curtain for a closet door and a window AC unit that obscured any view and rattled and whistled all night. Also beware of understaffed valet if you decide to park. Although very polite, it took more than 20 minutes to get my car each morning.
Needs work
Have stayed here numerous times in the past, but not in past three years. Today, Hotel public spaces are fine, but room was drab. Not sure if it has been renovated, but needs a brightening up — and some decent lighting. Room has fresh coat of paint, but is not attractive. Bathroom uncomfortably small. Bed very comfortable, furniture fine.
Valet was always very friendly & efficient.
Great hotel in a nice location! Highly recommended to anyone visiting Evanston!
Excellent bedding and pillow. However the insulation of room is too bad. I could hear people chatting loudly for 2 nights in the hallway and upper level early at 5:30- 6am.
The hotel was great location to visit Northwestern campus. Very convenient and easy walk to South campus. A lot of restaurants and shopping in the area. The hotels under renovations now lobby and restaurant really nice. The food in the restaurant was excellent. A lot for the money. The rooms were a bit old and not in great condition. Mold in the shower and very dusty in the room.
o
Love the historic Orrington! Perfect access to Northwestern. Probably the rooms are a bit smaller than we are used to but still nice. The bar is old, classic and fantastic.
The room hadn't been vacuumed and the carpet and couch had multiple stains in them. The carpet had someone else's toe nails clippings in it. The staff did vacuum the room as requested but for what we paid I would have expected better.
When this hotel used to be Omni Orrington, it was the nicest hotel in town. Hilton ownership transformed it into yet another basic chain hotel. The room was very noisy, temperature control was not working properly, the faucet in the bathroom was leaking. Just a very average experience. Yes, it is downtown and conveniently located, but the stay left much to be desired.
The bathroom was too small and had issues with water drainage
Evanston is Heavenston, but not at this visit to the Hilton. The staff was rude. Valet did not even offer to help with bags or even offer a luggage cart, we were scoffed at when we asked about self-parking and then we were sent to a place that made it clear that our car would be towed from a grocery store, we were not notified that there would be construction that literally required us to transfer to three different elevators to reach our room, the construction was very noisy early in the morning, the carpet in the room was literally FILTHY. This was the worst Hilton stay in memory, after literally hundreds of Hilton visits in the past. I can no longer confidently just click on Hilton. Sad.
Property was undergoing renovation. That was reflected in the rate which was very fair. Great location.
Pricey but average for the area. Staff are all wonderful. Would note some rooms have issues, ours was missing the pulley to lower the window shade which was not nice for privacy and to keep it cooler. Also we noted ants throughout the facility.
Under construction and no one told me ahead of time . We heard the noise all day on a Sunday !! Also the parking costs and availability is horrible No one answers the front desk phone either
there were a LOT of stains on the floor, the room had a strange smell, and we were put in a different room than we had purchased (we were put in a 2 bed room instead of a king bed). They refused to move us to another room.
Friendly staff. Hotel renovation noise made it difficult to sleep in. Small bathroom needs upgrading. Room was large but missing places to sit. Our desk was missing a drawer.
it is good
Excelente muy buena hospitalidad
Our room back the entire buildings AC system so our room was so loud for two days between running our ac the tv and the buildings ac it was horrible. The valet people I don’t even know what to say except for they don’t seem to know what they’re doing. We dreaded dealing with them. Would never stay at this hotel again. On day two they came on and cleaned our room but never changed the sheets.
We bookeda handicapped room through Hotels.com as my wife has mobility issues. When we got to our room we found it was not handicapped. I went to the front desk and thet stated they didn't get that information and didn't have.one available. We also discovered that the light in the bathroom didn't work and notified the front desk 3 times but the light wasn't fixed until the following morning. The Director of Operations did apologize and offered us a free night at any Hilton in the future which we did accept.
Not comfortable stay
Filter coffee of the past guest was left in the coffee machine. No ice from the ice machine. Strong noises from the gym next door late at night and early in the morning.
Great but stinky
Room was a little musty/stinky. Everything else was great.
Love the Orrington. Will stay again.
Perfect
Very neat and efficient services
Rooms were very clean and staff was very polite, welcoming, and helpful.
Everything was great: nice room, comfortable beds, great location only complaint was that the bathroom was very small with no sink space
I had to cancel my trip last minute due to an emergency. No one would like to cancel if they could make it in time. Only an emergency that happened on the date of travel could lead to such a situation. Called the hotel multiple times and requested to not charge for the same. Expedia said that they called the property and Spoke to Justin at the front desk. He wasn’t helpful too. I also called them to help waive the charges. After being an HHonors member they were highly rude and non accommodative. Have stayed on multiple occasions earlier for work but none of that was taken into account. Unfortunate that the HHonors membership and customer service is so pathetic almost to a point of no return. Will look for other options next time.
Expensive but good.
Very quiet neightborhood.
If you want to enjoy Chicago by day but still have a quiet place to stay at night this hotel's location is perfect. Metra and CTA stations can get you to many popular spots in the city and is within walking distance. If you take Clark Street east it is a short walk to amazing walking, biking, and jogging trails. I had plans to visit friends in outside Milwaukee this weekend but came a day and a half early just to enjoy this area as I did in 2022. Staff allowed me to check in early because my room was cleaned in advanced and it wasn't being occupied. After my checkout the valet team held by bag for an hour so I could show my friend's and their kids the beach.
Walkable to NW. Walkable to great dining for all 3 meals. The staff is great, welcoming and helpful. The property is older but so well maintained. Makes it classic instead of old. Everything looks and works great. Will stay again. Highly recommend.
Parking is expensive, otherwise a great stay
Service and staff
Great stay convenient to university and dining .
Solid option close to both campus and downtown Evanston
I would not recommend
The room was not satisfactorily clean. The carpet was stained but worst was the floor tiles in the shower were stained and moldy. This could have been easily cleaned by scrubbing or chemicals but for some unknown reason, was severely neglected. The shower head was also so badly caked and clogged in lime the water would not spray in a stream. As an honors member knowing the high Hilton standards of excellence, I would hope Hilton corporate would disassociate with this hotel until its standards come up to what a Hilton should be.
It was clean and comfortable.
Property was under construction and was not aware when I booked - No discount was offered due to the inconvenience-We got woken up by a drilling noise on Saturday at 7:15 am- Water was turned off on&off fr 2 days during our stay - Room was not clean properly while we were out- Bathroom was super small - I’m a Hilton honors member and travel once per Month and never experienced this- For a $360 room I was SUPER disappointed -
Took awhile for shower to get warm. Otherwise, no complaints. Would have liked a shower cap with a luxury suite
Good staff and property was ok
Property was understaffed and room was outdated. Also our room was next to the heating, cooling system extremely noisy. Will never go again
Excellent historic hotel. Great location for Northwestern events. Friendly and helpful staff.
bathroom was quite small and uncomfortable to navigate.
Valet service was wonderful. Entire staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Will definitely recommend to others who may stay in the area.
Very pleasant 1-night stay
I only stayed for a single night on a business trip, but the hotel was clean and comfortable. The bathrooms are quite compact, but clean and functional. There is a restaurant in the lobby of the hotel that had good food and fast service.
Awful
Staff was very nice, especially a lady named Sophia who was working at the desk Saturday night on March 2. She was so nice and funny....a definite winner!
Perfect location!
Sloppy
Hotel overall is clearly worn. Room did not have working tv, and text message based concierge was absolutely no help. The carpet was ripped, and shower / bathtub faucet was faulty. Housekeeping cleaned one night and did bare minimum.
We've previously stayed here and the experiences were much better. This time was ok but the hallway on our floor reeked like weed (at 4pm). The room was also chilly. We attributed it to the fact that it was wiinter. he next morning, when we opened the blinds, it was discovered that two windows had been left open.
From the beginning to the end the service was truly exceptional! Thank you to Ramdani, Victoria, Mary, and a very sweet woman that I’m so sorry that the name slipped my mind but her ENERGY was a true VIBE! Thank you for the great hospitality, and professionalism this weekend. My family had a great time!
The hotel is rundown for the area — and could use a makeover. I pre-paid for breakfast in the morning, and it was confusing to redeem. They ended up charging my card incorrectly, and I had to call for a refund. Front desk staff wasn’t consistent — not the most welcoming.
We've stayed in many hotels in Evanston, and this one is the most convenient option for parents visiting students at Northwestern. At first, they put us in a cramped, claustrophobic room on the third floor (there was a wall two feet outside the tiny window, and it looked out on the adjoining roof and pipes), which should not be rented out to anyone. When we complained, they moved us to a much larger room, which was wonderful. The bathroom is a bit small, but functional. They warned us there would be construction noise in the larger room, but it wasn't bad. The front desk staff was always friendly (both in moving us to a better room, and when we had to extend our stay due to the airport shutting down the day we were to fly home). The fitness room was great, with newer equipment, a working TV, cold water bottles, and virtually empty whenever we went! Overall, the hotel is showing its age and could use a face-lift (which I think they are working on), but it is comfortable, and well situated for dining in Evanston as well as walking around campus. We would definitely stay here again!
Small signs of wear in carpet, furniture are easily made up by the most excellent, courteous, attentive staff.
The staff was friendly and the location was convenient. The room could have been quieter. I could hear people exiting the front of the hotel and construction going on.
The breakfast was great. Room was clean. However, the pool area had so much condensation that the ceilings were dripping water and saw the start of mold in a few corners. Will be a big issue very soon. I did alert the staff.
For the most part my stay was fine. It would have been nice if the hours of breakfast were beyond 9 a.m. Offering a breakfast that's only available between 8 and 9 a.m. in a hotel is a little short sighted. Please give some consideration to whatever the chemical/fragrance is that is sprayed in the rooms. Maybe do a little more research into fragrances that are less obtrusive and don't create strong allergic reactions in people when the enter the room.
The staff were friendly but the carpet in the room was very dirty and stained. There used to be complimentary coffee in the morning but not this time. The restaurant staff could not explain how the hotel’s breakfast voucher worked. It was billed as free breakfast but almost all items on the menu were more expensive than the 15 dollar voucher.
No Complaints
Hilton Orrington of Evanston was easy to find; it rained nearly the entire time and I was unable to explore surrounding areas. I never saw wood window shutters and that was really cool. The room was comfortable, staff were courteous, willing to assist with a special shout out to the night desk staff (Ms Sophie, hoping that is her name). Staying during the holiday was really special as the hotel went all out with decorating and it was not overdone. My stay was short and I opted not to be eco friendly so I did not ask for fresh linen but the staff were on the hall daily even on Sunday and that was important. I rated the hotel with 4 stars as I had very little interactions with the services in the evaluation but had no complaints.
Just watching staff blow leaves from the curb as well as the walkways was a good indicator of the level of pride at the property!
Great property, friendly staff, convenient location.
Billy at the front desk and Brandon the bartender
Solid hotel in excellent location.
Room was clean but bathroom was poorly designed. Sink small and in corner. No counter space.

Fantastic location to access wonderful town. Attractive property, wonderful staff--special appreciation to Alexis who provided efficient, professional, as well as friendly and warm check-in. The great aspects were significantly offset by the drawbacks. Very noisy area, heavy truck noises starting at 7 am every morning of 4-day stay, lots of metal pipes hitting the ground, backup beeping, etc. No sleeping in for us. Lots of random honking at all times (troublesome intersection?). Also housekeeping staff yelling up and down the hall to each other and holding long, loud conversations very close to room door starting at 8 am. Very, very small bathroom. We adapted, but definitely an inconvenience. Also challenging for this particular visit was one of two elevators being out of service during a very busy time with lots of conference meetings happening. Valet supervisor very nice, but can't do everything himself. Young crew members did not inspire confidence. Had trouble retrieving our car on more than one occasion. Will probably try other nearby options for our next stay.
