One of the best hotels I have ever stayed at
EXCELLENT stay
Super comfy. Tatami (shoeless) flooring, complementary evening ramen. It’s a biggish hotel but still managed to be charming.
Nice place i loved the onsen
Hotel with a hint of Japanese ryokan style, with tatami mat floors from reception onwards. Cleanliness was top notch. Hotel was beyond my expectations. There are private and public onsens. The onsen waiting room felt like a place for social gathering whilst waiting for their turn for the private onsen. Hotel is within 5 mins from the station and within 10 mins walk to the morning market. I highly recommend this hotel!!!
this ryokan is excellent, super nice and has public and private baths, 5 min near the station! highly recommend
We weren’t used to the self check-in service, but the staff led us to the machine and it was smooth and easy. Breakfast buffet had many local and western food options, delicious free late night ramen, you get to wear Samue while in the hotel, beds were surprisingly comfortable for traditional Japanese room (wasn’t sure what to expect), and onsen was fantastic! Especially the rooftop outdoor onsen. We were there for 3 days, 3 nights. They offered cleaning every day, which you let them know by putting a magnet tag on the door by 1pm, which was nice. We never had a chance to try private onsens as they were always occupied. Although you are supposedly limited to half hour in the private onsen, there is no one to check and make sure you are using only half hour. I’m not sure if guests do follow this rule or take advantage of it. Thanks for a great stay!
Loved having access to the onsen
Very conveniently located near the Takayama train station. Great hot-spring baths and 3 private baths for those who are not used to a shared environment. Very walkable city with lots of great restaurants within 10 minutes walking distance. The historical part of the city is only 10-15 minutes of walking distance. Buffet breakfast was delicious but would recommend exploring local restaurants that serves breakfast as well.
.
Can’t get better for the money! Amazing relaxing hotel from the moment you walk onto the property with a small water feature by the front door. Staff were helpful and check in was easy. Onsen was great including private onsens. We didn’t have to wait at all. Views from the onsen were pretty. There were signs all over to explain how to use the onsen and a QR code that explained all the amenities in the hotel. Laundry was great, small snacks by onsens were yummy, night ramen was good and breakfast was fantastic and huge. Conveniently located by the station and also a short walk from the main area of Takayama. Futon bed in our room was super comfortable and there were even extra feather pillows available. I would highly recommend this hotel - very relaxing!
Horrible
This hotel was not user-friendly, we needed to remove our shoes before going there. The hotel provided a pair of socks to the customers if they didn't want to walk on the floor without socks/shoes. I think it's not eco-friendly. We always changed our shoes in the lobby, it's hard to find a seat during the peak hours eg dinner time or check-out. It's not suitable for the elderly. This hotel didn't provide any service except check-in. You could scan the QR code to see all the details by yourself. They don't have either dinner or a souvenir shop.
Very convenient but a bit frayed around the edges. An adequate facility but certainly not a luxury property.
The staff was very helpful and the room was clean. As someone with tattoos, I really appreciated that they offered private onsens. The late night soba snack was also much appreciated.
I stayed there only one night. The breakfast buffet was incredible.I didn't have to wait for a minute to enjoy one of their 3 private hot springs, where I enjoyed the city's night view. The staff were all helpful. I wish I could've stayed there longer.
Private bath was awesome!! Everything is very cleaned!!
Its an amazing place
A five minute walk from main station, the free laundry service on top floor was a bonus.
I loved everything! It was so nice and cozy and the staff were very friendly. The onsens were amazing! Very convenient location and walkable everywhere. Definitely recommend! Only thing is that the staff doesn’t speak english too well so they told me the free ramen was at 1030 so I missed it the first night. It says it’s until 10:30pm but they only open for 30 minutes (opens at 9pm and last call is at 930pm) so I don’t think that part is super clear. Besides that everything was amazing!
They do free ramen service from 9PM!
Great place.
Perfect
Excellent hotel with comfy beds and awesome hot tubs. Take your partner to a private open air hot tub facing the mountains, it’s a great experience.
Good onsen
Very close to station, very nice hotel.
Great local
なにより、食べ物が美味かったです❤️
Love it! Room was small but cosy. Can’t fit two med size luggage in room. The hot spring is a must try but prepare to wait long as it’s always full with people queuing even at early morning. Definitely will go back hotel again. Love the old japan onsen feel.
I love the Onsen, feee ramen and basically the entire vibe of the hotel, really relaxing and enjoyable. I wish that they have smart tv thou, so that we can chill and watching Netflix at night.
Close to the train station, friendly staff, culturally true without being difficult for us to figure out. Loved the spa.
Value for money
Very friendly staff. The hotel had a comprehensive method of maintaining very high hygiene levels during the COVID19 outbreak. Sone of the room furnishings could do with an update but overall the hotel is a value for money venue in a great location near the railway station and 5 minutes walk to the heritage lusted old town centre. The onsen area has views to snow capped mountains.
Private onsen with free ramen for supper. Great view from rooms too. Will definitely stay here the next time I’m in takayama.
The floors throughout the hotel (even in the elevators) were "tatami" mats so guests are able to walk barefoot and experience the feel of the tatami. Breakfast is buffet-style with a wide variety of foods to choose from - Japanese-style with lots of local dishes, Western-style for those who would rather enjoy eggs and bacon. The hotel incorporates a lot of wood decor in the authentic Japanese style which is cozy and relaxing. There is even an oversized wooden chair that you can sit in and take photos of.
Convenient location, value for money room price, nice private rental hot springs, free ramen at 22:30 every night makes the trip wonderful and fulfilling
Location is great; small but nice hot spring onsen inside/outside; the room is typically small but clean and comfortable, but got really warm probably because it was just below the floor where onsen was located.
Awesome experiences! First time enjoy private onsen and a hotel that is completely covered with tatami mats except the entrance area. Would go back again.
This is unexpected to queue up for breakfast as the restaurant not big enough for all guests. However the hot spring pools are very nice
The property is good, clean and convenient. Highly recommend. The only feedback I want to give is the onsen. One of the private room onsen and the ladies outdoor onsen have to have better protection so that people from outside the building, be it on road level or other buildings will not be able to see people standing up at the onsen. Please note and improve. Thanks
Loved the onsen. Walking around in socks was unique. Breakfast buffet was good, although very busy with other customers.
A wonderful onsen hotel
It was a great Japanese onsen Hotel and was well maintained. The breakfast buffet had a wonderful selection of Japanese breakfast options. It is also located less than 5 mins from Takayama Station.
A quaint typical Japanese place to stay in. Good stay but package with meals are pretty expensive than one without any meals
Liked being in a traditional hotel but enjoyed having our own bathroom. Location was excellent and easy walking distance to attractions.
Room too simple and casual .bath was tiny simple and like a box
The spa was very welcomed after a day exploring and the helpfulness of the staff particular the lady who worked at the spa
An Onsen hotel with Japanese atmosphere and Western amenities. We booked a 2 twin bed room with private bathroom and very good Japanese breakfast buffet. Both indoor and outdoor hot pools were pleasant. We did not use the sauna.
Great stay
Hotel was within 10 minute walk from Takayama station. Location was good with the Old Town and morning market 15 minutes away. Onsen was nice with both public and private baths. Liked the chilled complimentary Vtagen drinks after a hot soak. The breakfast spread was extensive and yummy. Highly recommend this hotel as base for visit to Kamikochi as well.
Decent Japanese Style Hotel
We stayed in a deluxe double room which was very small with two futon beds. There were three private Onsen on the top floor, one larger one was semi outdoor and pretty nice, the other small one we tried was indoor and barely fit two people in the tub. Most of time, there were people waiting to use Onsen because no reservation was available. There were two restaurants serving breakfast and the one on the 1st floor gets quite busy sometimes and we had to wait for a while. They serve mostly Japanese food and some western food, and it was pretty good. It is located two blocks away from the train station and not too far from the center of city. Overall, it was decent place with good price, and we enjoyed the town very much.
Great location, great onsen, great service with little nice touches, like ramen for supper
The hotel has a lot of group tourist. Walking distance from station
In need of management upgrades
Foreign tourists friendly setting but when peak season as I experienced,1) Internet slows down to useless 2) front area and escalators in chaos 3) management skills and systems are not good enough to deal with demands
Wonderful services; friendly staff; cleanliness; good location close to station; great breakfast; last but not the least, the sauna and hot bath
Will recommend friends to stay at this hotel.
Staffs all very friendly and free welcome coffee all times are attractive. Overall very good
Greatest Onsen in the world.
Amazing Onsens. Best in the world.
The facility is less than 5 minutes walk from Takayama Station. Very convenient when leaving and picking up our luggage after a day trip elsewhere. It’s a popular hotel with lots of guest from everywhere, so we had to wait in line for about 20 minutes in the lobby for breakfast seating. During dinner time, the entire dining room was full of smoke because almost every table was grilling their Hida beef. The private hot springs are nice and nice view.
Great!
Everything was great. The restaurant was a little small for the dinner time.
Wonderful winter in Takayama
Very enjoyable stay. Love the food. Convenient location - close to JR station and close proximity to various sights. We'll return for sure.
Excellent
Excellent
A very nice choice for a one night stay in Takayama. One long block from JR Takayama Station but it’s an easy stroll especially in Winter. Front desk staff friendly and informative. Hotel staff present to help navigate how to store shoes before heading to room. Nice older man helped us to secure luggage before room is ready so we can head out to explore town. Room is large for Japan hotel standards. Love the futon bed. Too tired to take advantage of free ramen at 10:00 pm. Lobby a bit crowded due to marketing of Made in Takayama products throughout lobby. Still manageable though and not a put off as it helped us get an idea of what’s available to bring back as little gifts for family and friends. Haven’t had breakfast yet. A definite winner if you’re heading to Takayama.
Great hotel. Proper traditional ryokan style in the heart of Takayama. Free Parking and great amenities. There is a onsen that you can enjoy with outdoor section. Private onsen also available but in first come first serve with no reservation. Free noodle at 10PM every night. And the ramen is very good too.
Hotel is about 7 mins walk from Takayama train and bus stations, and is quite close to city centre and other places of interest. Both dinner and breakfast were very good in terms of variety and quality, including local beef. Onsen facility was also very good, and the hotel provides 3 private baths with distance view, apart from the communal one, and yokult drinks after bath. Room is quite spacious and our room faces the city centre with distant mountain view which is nice. Hotel is generally well maintained. Staff we encountered were courteous, organised and spoke quite good English. Free coffee and tea were provided near the reception area.
Room is smaller than the photo shown. I booked the room with dinner and breakfast, however the dinner set is worse than photo shown, meat quality is so hard and less kind of food for selection, that made me so disappointed as I paid extra HK$6xx for that. My friend's eye and nose are allergy and running noise when he stayed in the room. Spa is absolutely good and privacy.
Great location, within 5 min walk to Takayama station and Takayama (Nohi bus) terminal. Traditional Ryokan feel with all the amenities of a large hotel. Staff are very helpful and proficient in English. Breakfast buffet has wide selection and is good value at JPY 1,500.
We really enjoyed our stay here. They offered free noodle bowls every night between 1030 and 1130 which was fun. It became a nice little event to finish off the day. We would spend a half hour in the private onsen before that, and that was just another nice touch. We had a couple of massages onsite that were extra, but we enjoyed those too. Great location although a little noisy with the trains if you have the windows open.
Not so good
Uncomfortable bad, the room not so clean and the food not good
Loved the Japanese style tatami hotel and that you have to take shoes off and are encouraged to wear a yukata around the hotel, even in the restaurant and at the bar. The private and public onsens are nice and provide a good view over the city and mountains beyond. A 5 or 10 min walk to the station.
This is my second time staying here. Great service and good breakfast as last time. Will definitely come back again.
Good hotel is a great small city
The Hida Hanasatonoyu Takayama Ouan was an exceptional hotel found about 100 meters from the Takayama Station. The staff was very helpful and capable of speaking to their guest in English & Japanese. Check-in was quick and everything was explained thoroughly. The lobby was a bet "crowded" with it's gift shop and restaurant on the same floor, but it was easy to get around. The hotel is equipped with a washing/drying facility and several onsens (one for each gender & several private onsens for the guest). The hotel was close to several tourist attractions and the staff made it easy to locate travel deals and even helped us to make reservations to go to Shirakawa-go (an hour away). The staff went out of their way to help locate eateries and the easiest possible way to get to certain destinations. The room was comfortable and quiet. The only thing that became a problem at times was their WiFi connection. It would drop in and out every once in awhile. All in all, we enjoyed our stay at the hotel and will possibly stay there again upon our return someday.
Nice onsen and food
The food was very good for breakfast and dinner. All had very Japanese style taste.
Experience Japan
Good hotel to experience Japanese culture. Open space public onsen, tatami floor, Japanese buffet and Japanese hospitality. Hotel is well kept and staffs are friendly. The best part is, it is VERY near from the train station and bus stop to Shirakawa-go. Wish we can stay longer here.
good onsen
good onsen, great location, well-trained staff, English friendly hotel
Close to the train & bus station. Nice onsen & restaurant
Nice Hotel, good location near railway station, very helpful staff.
It's a pretty big hotel with some ryokan-esque features and hot baths. Location is convenient to the train station but a bit of a walk to other attractions in Takayama. Breakfast was a good combination of Japanese and western fare.
Perfect location close to station.
This is a charming hotel with wonderful service. The private and shared baths are lovely. It’s a very short walk from the station. The no shoe policy was great and the older gentleman who greeted us in the rain with an umbrella was so sweet. We didn’t enjoy the buffet breakfast at all and there was a minor smell from the toilet. But overall we were very satisfied with our stay.
Had a great stay and would definitly go back Used the spa pool everyday day and the breakfast was delicious Overall great place to stay and good value
Pleasant hotel near bus/train stations
If you like Japanese style of living without sacrificing western amenities , Then you will like this place. For example, your shoes are kept in a locker on the first floor and you must wear only socks in most areas even in the lobby and on the room floors above. Slippers are provided in the rooms. The beds are comfortable, but are on the floor. The dining area is very attractive and caters to Japanese tastes in food although you certainly get some western foods as well. The quality is excellent. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. My room was clean and quiet. The hotel is within walking distance of the old preserved area of Takayama, which is well worth seeing even though it is rather commercial. Also be sure to go to the Hida Folk Village to see the beautiful traditional homes and shops they have preserved so well there. You need to take the bus which includes a ticket mission in return. Another valuable trip is to Ogimachi, about 45 minutes out and into the mountains, an ancient but lived in community - Quite commercial, swarming with tourists, but worthwhile, especially the quiet preserved Museum Village on the south side of the river which is beautifully laid out.
Nice Traditional Japanese Hotel
Nice Traditional Japanese Hotel. Our friends and family wanted to experience traditional Japanese Hotel, so we decided to try this one. Very nice. Room rather small, and you sleep on the japanese futon wearing yukata but quite comfortable and most importantly an experience.
Cosy and clean hotel. Service is extremely excelle
This is my 2nd time and serving staff still remember me :). We are all awe at how the staff goes all the way to ensure we are comfortable. We especially adore senior uncle whose geniune SMILE never leave his face
Good hotel, close to station but eat elsewhere
Traditional style onsen hotel that is very popular with tourists, both international and Japanese. Make a plan to eat in town as the buffet dinner is really quite uninspiring for the price. Breakfast however is a better value proposition but only to a small degree. Staff and cleanliness are all to a high standard with limited English beyond the front desk staff. For a traditional onsen experience you may need to look elsewhere as the water is just over 40 deg which is at the cooler end of the onsen spectrum.
Private bath room
Friendly staffs, Japanese style rooms and set-up, and I like most is private bath room. The dinner is also very nice.
Excellent experience
Nice location. Nice facility. Nice food. Nice decoration. Nice night time free ramen
Nice hotel
very near to takayama station & old town, clean & nice staff. dinner is very tasty, serve supper ramen for free after enjoy onsen.
Extended stay here as it was so good.
We had the best experience so far in our travels around parts of Japan through staying at this hotel. Our room was a Deluxe Double and was quite spacious with a king size bed, small sitting area plus small desk/bureau, a separate shoji screened-off shower/toilet and entry vestibule. The vestibule light stays on permanently (or at least we couldn't find a way to turn it off), but a shoji screen door mutes the light for sleeping. Staff were kind, friendly and helpful. The onsen area is wonderful and the laundry facilities (washers and dryers) are on that same floor. Lovely garden-style entry to the hotel is very welcoming. Really recommend this hotel.
Nice and well located
Nice big hotel in Takayama. We arrived just afemter a big group of tourists; so our check in procedure was slow and unperaonnal. Otherwise vlean and nice hotel, good restaurant, beautiful rooftop onsen
Good deal but live like in a dormitory
It is one of the biggest hotels in the town. You have everything you need: free parking, breakfast buffer, dinner semi-buffer, night noodle, private onsen, gift shop etc. However, there is no system booking, you need to line up for everything. All ppl go to eat together, onsen at about similar timeslot, check out and check in together etc. I feel like I am living in a dormitory and not feeling like in a vacation trip. The place is very fine for those just want to taste out onsen experience without paying high price. Note that the onsen is likely just hot water and make your skin very dry after the bath, it is at least how we feel.
Takayama
Wonderul relaxing Japanese town. Do as much or as little as you want. Winter is cold with snow on the ground. Old town is picture perfect with wonderful all around. Take the train from Nagoya and then leave going to Toyama. Wonderful trips.
Good Hotel, Onsen,Delicious food
I've stayed here 1 night with my mom. It is not so far from the station. (about 7 mins walking with the good path) I love onsen here, they have the private onsen as well (never ssen at other hotels before). Their breakfast is also very good. Only one thing which is not familiar for me is the hotel requires the guest to take off their shoes while staying in the hotel (they have locker to keep our shoes). But it does not matter when comparing with the experience here. I would stay here again if i come to takayama.
Good location but need renovate
Good location as it’s not far from station but would be a bit difficult to walk to hotel with your luggage while it snows as we had. The room (Semi Double) is quite tight for 2 persons. We can’t keep our luggage open as it has no space to walk. I would recommend the hotel to be renovated also add more lighting.
Excellent food and onsen. Private bath on top floor is spectacular.
The private bath is good
The private bath is good. The biggest problem of traveling in Japan is that you need to do the BBQ yourself and we don't know when the food is ready.
Nice compact apartment with modern facilities
The instructions on the self check-in procedure were emailed to us a week in advance so we were well prepared. We had a few queries once we were inside the place but were able to use the in-house wifi to connect with the owners/staff via whatsapp. Everything was almost brand new and the technology was state-of-the-art. However, all electrical panels/switches labels were in Japanese. Luckily we located the instruction booklet early and it was very useful. Nice cosy place. Would recommend.
Selected 2 person when searching for hotel. End up having to pay for 1 more person during check in. I book multiple hotel and did not check the numbers of pax again. Abit disappointed.
Stayed for 2 nights with family, including a 2 year old son. Pleasant hotel close to the main train station. Meals at the hotel restaurant including breakfast were good, but there was often a long queue to enter. There was complimentary use of 3 private onsen rooms on the top floor which were nice with a view of the town, but be expected to wait in line for your turn. Overall nice mix of both traditional and modern facilities.
Clean, basic
Hotel was decent. Not much in immediate area, but a few blocks from the train station. Main complaint is about people overstaying their 30 minutes at the private onsens and nobody enforcing the rules. Why make a time limit if nobody is willing to enforce it?
Close to JR station with good food
Traditional style hotel with excellent buffet spread for breakfast and dinner. It is about 5 mins from hotel from the JR station. Comfortable stay and the hotel lobby has an area that sells local sourveirs with discounts from 7 to 10 pm.
Convenient location n helpful staff. Also they onsen is great. Not that many people.
The hotel is not too far away from Takayama train station, about 5 min walk. The room is clean and comfortable with a nice spa. The breakfast is so delicious.
Good choice walking distance to train station.
Japanese style large hotel. Tatami mats in the room and bed on the floor - very comfortable. Onsen on the top floor was very nice. Really good breakfast with lots of choices, mostly Japanese though. Hotel gets lots of traffic and the lobby is a glorified gift shop, but it's OK. One big negative was the WiFi is awful - cut out and ridiculously slow - probably due to too many users. it worked well in the early morning.
Nice for jacuzzi
Nice for jacuzzi
Nice breakfast and onsen, hotel and rooms dated.
Checkin staff were great and quick. Room and hotel a little dated but comfortable and clean. Breakfast had a great Japanese selection which was nice for a traveller who wants to try different cuisine. Onsen was great especially with three private onsen that were readily available when we wanted to use, no booking, just wait system with 30min limit. Good for foreigners to try and especially for family groups. Good location to train with a little walk to the old town. Takayama is a great town and love the food there.

Very nice hotel, great location and the private baths were a nice bonus!
