The drain in the bathtub was rusted and door sill was also rusty. Bath room plugs didn’t work and things we plugged in fell out of receptacles. Maintenance was non existent. Pics on request since it wouldn’t allow me to upload.

Old-style motel, a little tired

Restaurant had very good selection, servings big and pricing was reasonable. Outside of Motel not inviting (upkeep required) but the room was comfortable and so were the beds. You get what you pay for.

Check-in is located on the otherside of the street (two stories building). Situated by the bay. Nice stay. Staff was amazing!! I forgot a few items in the sheets of our room and they were nice enough to go out of their way and ship them to our home in Quebec. So appreciated!! <3

Even though it is a bit aged, it is very clean and comfortable.

This was a well priced and convenient spot for our family of 4 to lay our heads on our way to Cape Breton. The property and rooms are quite out dated however we found the staff very accommodating and the beds were very comfortable (clearly had been upgraded)

Clean and quiet

Our stay at the Hearthstone Inn was wonderful. The rooms are basic but clean and well looked after. The best part was the friendly and curtious people who work at the Inn! Thank you for everything!

Toilet flap leak -- need to open bowl to stop water. Poor noise insulation from highway traffic. Mouldy air conditioner. Bathroom floor has hair -- need vacuum before mopping.

we arrived at 7:40 pm in rainy darkness. Restaurant supposed to be open till 8, staff clearly indicated they were not iwanting to serve customers till the next morning. Phone in office not consistently answered before and after arrival. Air conditioner incredibly loud (old); ceiling fan in bathroom so noisy one person couldn't sleep while other was in the bathroom. Breakfast staff were friendly and food ok.

The wifi does not reach the room and is unusable.

It’s the spitting image of a motel you get when you are too tired to drive and only need a bed. This motel appeared to be barely holding on, wifi off, green algae in the closed off pool, no other rooms occupied near me, basic tv, and town that people flee after high school or die in.

It needed an update, and cleanliness was not great, mybroom hot cleaned twice for the 9 days i stayed there. So i would like to get an upgrade next time i stay somewhere

Overall very good. The single story rooms detached from main building do not have good WiFi. Otherwise very clean and comfortable. Good price.

Conveniently located right off the highway. Definitely needs some upgrades (a/c had tape around it to cover space around it) Clean and decent price for a quick place to sleep while traveling

Traffic noise as the property is located next to a busy main thoroughfare.

Wasn’t keen on our room being on a second level necessitating going up a deteriorating wooden steps. Also having to cross a busy highway to access the restaurant is not ideal. However the room was clean, had a mini fridge and microwave and the staff were very friendly and accommodating.

This could be so much better with a little more care and maintanance. We were in the side across the street from the main. Terribly noisy from the large trucks.

Without a doubt, best value for the price in our 2 week stay in NS & PEI. Low cost but clean and comfortable. Great beds. Recommend it highly.

It was close to the venue we were attending and had a nice view. It was also very quiet. And close to shopping and restaurants.

Good location to Mulgrave

The room was spacious, with a comfortable bed. The hotel we are told is undergoing renovations, but our room hadn’t been renovated yet. The bathroom had cracked floor tiles and the smallest, lowest toilet I have ever seen. We did enjoy our stay, the aforementioned conditions didn’t hamper our stay.

Location was okay. The room was basic. The bed was a king but sagged so bad that we rolled to the middle, and was not comfortable. Check in was across the busy highway, and the gal did tell me the on-site restaurant was short staffed and would be closed for breakfast. The view was lovely. We were in the back side of the. Orel so didn’t hear highway traffic noise.

The facility is very old and not well maintained. The walls between rooms are very thin and we could hear the neighbours clearly. The WiFi was non-existent. Stayed in much better places for the same price.

The picture shown on Expedia does not match the room we were in. The manager was extremely nice and friendly.

I really liked the location and that I had a room on the water side. However, I was very disappointed that the Restaurant on site was closed for two of my three day stay.

Breakfast was not included even if it has been charged by Expedia. Restaurant was in front of the Motel. This place should have been pretty good 5-6 years ago or prior to the pandemic.Shortage of personnel probably hit them !

Convenient but needs updating. Needs new bathtub, new wall treatments, new sheets., and of course money to pay for it! So probably won’t happen. Heavy road noise from traffic as tight on highway, but again, it’s convenient,

we stayed just before hurricane fiona hit so it was late checking in and early checkout. Staff at front desk very helpful.

First room had no hot water, second room had not been cleaned, third room was very old and in poor condition.

Our stay was "OK", however, there should have been some compensation for 4 nights without hot water. Particularly, when the condition was known to the owners prior to the booking and is ongoing, with no reduction in bookings. We believe that as Hotels.com, collected the charges, they are responsible!

No hot water for shower. Front desk gave a contact number but No one pick up the phone.

Clean room, Bed was comfortable, limited TV channels, pleasant staff. Would stay again.

Inside was a surprise. So clean and updated. Outside need a refresh. Warm water not hot. Had to drive across busy highway to check in sue to lack of staff-definitely a result of Covid and not hotel I think. Restaurant not open. Test was great. Front desk staff welcoming and kind.

The Bed Boxspring was broken so the mattress fell in the middle, not a comfortable sleep. Floor was gritty in the room. No compensation or adjustment to room payment at check-out.

Dirty and smelly

Liked the location. Didn’t like that the air conditioner was behind the window curtains. No walking trails within walking distance. No staff visible nor accessible in the building we were in.

The location is great if you plan to drive the Cabot Trail. As a solo motorcyclist, if you are looking for a hot shower and a bed, then this will do the trick. The room was OK, the WIFI worked, the mattress was comfy and the TV had lots to choose from. The restaurant was closed due to lack of staff which was disappointing after a day of riding the roads. Luckily there are food options down the road in town or an A&W next door.

The place was old. Electrical plugs were out of the wall. The bathtubs had no anti slip strips. The pool was closed for which there was no mention of this when checking in. I will not be back.

The shower was not working. Cold water coming when set for hot water, and room temperature water coming out, when set in cold setting. On top of it, Water comes as a pencil stream.

The advertised pictures are very misleading and do not represent the actual property. The property was decently clean and did the job for a one night stay. Price point was very good!

Friendly staff, room was freezing as air conditioning was left on. It was clean and accommodating. The tv was not placed well to watch from the bed.

Second time staying here in the last 2 weeks. Super seamless check in, extremely friendly and accommodating staff, super clean, just overall a really great option for an affordable accommodation. The rooms are cozy and have everything needed. 10/10 would recommend and will definitely stay here again.

J’ai aimé la localisation et la belle vue sur la mer en arrière de l’hôtel. Par contre, le matelas laisse vraiment à désirer. Il faudrait le changer car il creuse vraiment vers le milieu.

No breakfast provided

Absolutely everything was gross. From the stains on the sheets to the window shaker a/c unit that sounds like a freight train. I’m from Ontario, so I don’t know building codes here in Cape Breton. This Motel is a fire hazard waiting to happen. The pool was outta commission, the Wifi was horribly slow and we got zapped when plugging in electronic devices. Our charging blocks became smoking hot and had to buy new ones at the local gas station. I know after a long drive to Cape Breton that a motel just on the other side of the causeway is a tempting place to stop the night before beginning your Cabot Trail adventure but this place is not the place to stop. It’s a shame really because if someone were to sink some money into it it would be a desirable stop on your vacation. Location is the only thing this Motel has going for it.

Front desk staff was nice and friendly, very pleasant. Everything else was not great. It was late when we arrived and we were extremely tired so we did not ask for another room. Hairs in the tub. Tons of cobwebs. Active spider web above tub. King mattress falls toward middle. AC was duck taped for its seal. Zero noise proofing. Age of room and poor repair noticeable. Shame because front desk staff was VERY NICE especially on the checkout.

Just what we needed for a short stay, 2 comfortable beds for a reasonable price!

I was in town for family matters and i could not have asked for a more accommodating staff. With the stress of what i was going through, everything was so seamless. The staff are so kind, the rooms are clean and spacious, and i felt at home.

Staff was amazing the rooms just weren't we were expecting. Needs updating.

18 wheeler in the room

Everything was pretty fair, clean and confortable but even tho we had air conditionning.... It sounded like an 18 wheeler was rumming through our room so try to have a peaceful quiet rest witht that... Not incredible.

Dog barked next door all night. Cut my foot on piece of metal flooring at inside entrance of room. No toilet paper in room.

When we arrived the one staff member was friendly we were told we couldnt get food because restaurant was closed because staff shortage .that was fine we went to the room it smelt damp so we turned on a little heat and went out looking for some food went back couldnt get the heat turned off it was radiation heat .Tv was not watchable tried the cables but didnt do anything . Tried to shower and could not get hot water ran the water forever didnt get above luke watm tried to call front desk twice only got recording .Also when we got in bed the mattress was sunk in the middle .was a waste off money and would not stay there or recommend anyone of my friends to stay there

Wonderful reception, keen to assist and please. Motel is on a fairly busy highway, easily found but shows some of its character age. Very clean and tidy though and spacious.

Surprise to satisfaction

I had a leak in the bathroom found when I stepped onto the floor from bed before 5 am. I called and they sent a maintenance man in right away. Also housekeeping to assist with removing water so I could have a shower. Another room was cleaned and housekeeper assisted with my move. Very much appreciated and good people working here. Very helpful and obliging.

It is a very ordinary property but was clean and the staff woman was great-went out of her way to be helpfull.

The property is a little dated, but very clean and comfortable. We stayed on the motel side across the street from the main building, and had a nice view of the strait. The staff were very courteous and friendly. Would stay here again.

Clerk had an attitude, poor condition, door chain broken off and I repaired, fridge freezer needed defrosting months ago, I was given a garbage bag for ice, ice machine was unclean, laundry facilities were advertised, but could only be used by staff, etc. I’m very much surprised that this place appears on the Expedia site.
