Maybe Somewhere Better
I am a native San Franciscan and I have stayed here many times, but the neighborhood has really gone downhill and felt dangerous, even with hotel security. The hotel was packed with school kids from Ireland and the elevator couldn't handle the load, so I used the stairs. Also there was road noise outside my room on Mission all night long that made for poor sleep. The room itself was very comfortable and very well designed. I like the Hilton chain a lot and Hampton Inns are usually really good value; however, with the area in severe decline, I doubt I would stay here again.
City view room I paid for was a view of an interior wall of hotel. Not sure if I missed information about parking but it was $65 a night plus $9 tax. Not really any other options. Staff was nice.
The hotel location is not the best and I didn't feel safe walking around the surrounding areas. Lots of homeless.
Decent hotel. Too bad SF is a dump!
The SF Downtown Hampton Inn is fine. The area around it is not! During our stay, there was a shooting down the street and one night we were awoke to a siren and a loud speaker saying "Do not start fires in the street." During the day, the city cleans the sidewalks everyday, but in the morning, they are again covered with garbage and human feces. You have to be careful where you step! Downtown SF is a dump! It's a shame because SF used to be my favorite city.
Nice
Loved this hotel. Now, it is between a rough area and the nice side of the city. If you decide to walk, go into the direction of the higher buildings. The room was really comfortable. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I would stay there again!
Room was small but nice. Hot water in the shower was pretty inconsistent but otherwise the bathroom was clean and nice as well. I was told room service would come every-other day, and it came the first 2 days but not the 3rd (just an unpredictable schedule). Area around the hotel is sketchy— there is an alley right next to the hotel entrance that is full of homeless men who moon passersby (3 different men…), and on the other side the street just gets sketchier so as a single female traveler I always had a colleague meet me at my hotel so I wasn’t alone. The rooms themselves are pretty nice, but it’s not worth it to stay here in my opinion unless you’re very comfortable in a rougher area. Just down the street toward the Moscone Center it starts to get better.
Homeless near hotel
Should have stated the cost to park car or make it part of the cost….. rooms need upgrade and renovated
My room had a fridge that was loudly buzzing that kept me from sleeping. The area around the property was dirty and unsafe. There was a large homeless population around the hotel property
Welcome to Zombie Land!
The hotel is fine but it is located in an area where the adjacent streets are littered with druggies. People asleep, unconscious and doing drugs on the sidewalk. We had to walk in the street with vehicle traffic. Zombie land right in front of your eyes!
The room was small. The view was good.
Walking distance to see the Hamilton show. Room was spacious and clean.

Terrible area. Arrived at 10pm to the hotel and the area was surrounded by hundreds of homeless people yelling and screaming profanities at each other. I had my two young toddlers with me and had to book a different hotel on the spot that was in a safer area. The hotel only offers “valet parking” that requires to park at the front of the hotel with no valet area (street parking area) where all the homeless people were screaming at each other. The hotel said to just leave my vehicle there and hotel staff will park when they’re available. Didn’t feel safe taking my young children out of the car in this atmosphere while I unload my belongings with no other adult/hotel staff to assist me. The hotel staff didn’t even seem to care that I was at all concerned for mine and my children’s safety. Highlyyyyyyy recommend not booking here.
I would recommend. Just avoid walking on the 6th and mission block around the corner. Everything else was great! Well run hotel, had a nice stay.
Loved the stay! Everything from the staff and room was excellent. The area is a little bit sketchy but other than that a wonderful stay.
We wanted to leave at 9:15 am. They told us to give them 30 min to get our car ready. So we called at 8:45. Then 5 min later we were told that we need to pick up our car now. We weren’t packed yet. Had to rush. Not sure will come back.
The hotel was surrounded by homeless and it made us feel unsafe having to walk to the parking lot away from. The hotel and pay $75 daily. I would not recommend this place
Mixed Feelings I recently stayed at this hotel and feel compelled to share an honest review to help future guests. While the property itself has some positive aspects, there are critical things to consider before booking. First, a word of warning: the area surrounding the hotel is heavily populated with homeless individuals. I’m not passing judgment, but as a paying guest, it’s something I wish I had been informed about in advance. Arriving at the hotel via the rear entrance, I was immediately unsettled and seriously contemplated canceling my prepaid reservation. Once inside, things do improve. The staff is courteous and helpful, which was a bright spot in the experience. However, the rooms are extremely small — not a dealbreaker but something to keep in mind. In summary, while the interior of the hotel is decent, the external environment and lack of clear communication about it are significant downsides. If location and surroundings are important to you, this may not be the best choice.
Like the view from the roof top
Front desk people with a very low low customer service attitude..(they were having a bad day I guess.. that is why they were with such a bad attitude when I was checking in. 😏
The hotel inside its safe. Very unsafe and our car got vandalized. Lots of homeless, never coming back to this area.
Very unsafe for families, lots of homeless people around.
Do not stay here. Very uncomfortable and unsafe.
Safe Inside NOT safe outside.
This afternoon is located. Right on the edge of the tenderloin. A very unsafe feeling. As there is a lot of homelessness and drug use in the area. They also charge $75 a night for valet. Parking, which is not told to you before when you make a reservation. I was promised a higher floor so that we could see the city and my window. All I could see was a wall. The breakfast was good and they had a lot of options. Once in the building, I felt very safe, but getting to and from the building was another question. We kept our head on a swivel. When we walked around the area. The room was very clean and very nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It is not their fault that this part of san francisco is right on the edge of a third world country.
The hotel is conveniently located at midtown, close to many attractions for tourists but unfortunately is surrounded by a lot of homeless
I ended up not staying at the property. It is extremely unsafe. A lot of drug deals going on outside. Many homeless urinating and defecating. Graffiti right outside the premises.
Hotel was safe, but location was a lot of homeless and trash on the sidewalk.
Lot of homeless people on the streets loitering around
Keep up the good job
Good
The hotel and everything in our rooms was fantastic.
The room was clean and staff was excellent/friendly. However, there's a lot of homeless just a block away. Walking around the area felt a bit unsafe, especially at night.
Everything's great except homeless on doorsteps
Inside is great and staff are really nice. I did not feel safe in area around hotel and also was worried about my car because it's in parking lot with an open gate so anyone can mess with it. You guys we need to keep your guests car in at least a locked parking lot.
The property is nice, just a lot of homeless in the area
East coast girls
Not easy to find parking but it was available close by and by valet.
It wasn't what i would consider unsafe, the property has security there, but lots of homeless people around. We walked a few blocks to a restaurant with no issues.
It was pretty good, I was there for business, and it was just great for that.
cracking toilet seat, musty small rooms, stained towels, small room, drug use and prostitution right outside.
This part of sfo is not clean and lots of homeless people. That being said, the first room that was given to me literally felt like no windows. The window opened into the next room. I had to request a front road facing window. The rooms were so small, it felt claustrophobic.
Thanks
Our room was clean and neat. This being our second stay in three months, we had our room cleaned this stay. The cleaning was efficient. As usual breakfast was a treat.
I love the vallet parking, staff is friendly, rooms are clean and well stocked. Hotel itself is amazing. The only downside i guess is the location DT San Francisco is full of homeless. Its not real pretty once you outside.
In Bathroom shower area water was flowing to everywhere and separation to toilet which was reported. We were unable to take bath.
Although the hotel on the inside is nice, outside pulling up was scary for one. There were individuals outside doing drugs and it was unsafe for my kids wanting to just hop outta the car.
The front desk person, night shift, was rude, everything else was fine.
Outside of the property there is no parking. And no safe parking surrounding the hotel. The only lot is a fenced uncovered lot in the alley behind the hotel. There is a large tent city and dozens upon dozens of unhoused people on the street and alley surrounding the hotel. I felt extremely unsafe traveling on my own as a female with 3 children. The valet option was $65 but I took it because there was no way I would park my car and walk through the area to get to the hotel. The interior of the hotel was beautiful, upscale and clean. The staff were super friendly and very accommodating. I would stay here all the time if the surrounding area and parking situation were safer. The rooms were nice, clean and modern. Unfortunately the sidewalk and street area surrounding are suffering. I understand this is not the hotel’s fault but I wouldn’t recommend this for single women or for families with children. It was very anxiety ridden trying to check in with bags, kids, and no parking.
Hotel was very clean, secure & friendly staff.
Only one microwave for the whole facility but all of the rock/crystal users you could ever want! Conveniently right outside!
Mucho homless en la puerta de entrada
La localización es horrible porque hay muchas personas que no tienen vivienda que están a las afueras del hotel y es muy peligroso para los que se hospedan en el
…
Cerca de todo, habitaciones confortables
The pictures make it look way nicer than it actually is
I liked the property itself, but the surround areas outside the property were atrocious
There is no parking, and it is full of homeless
So unsafe outside! Please DO NOT STAY HERE! Plus they use someone else to valet parking, they stole our belonging. We really need to report this property to the higher level
I enjoyed the stay, thank you. 😊
Did not like how it said parking available as one of the amenities thinking that it was going to be included with the room, but they only have valet so you have to either pay like $70.00 per night or pay $40.00 at another garage and risk your car getting broken into or just vandalized
It’s crazy how they charge $75 for valley parking and they put the car in the back alley where all the homeless people are. Totally unsafe outside the hotel.
Good service and very friendly staff
Hotel felt safe and clean inside. Great price. Yes, in DT SF the streets will be filled with unhoused people. Not the fault of the property. I enjoyed my stay.
Location was ideal for conducting my business in the surrounding area.
Terrible place.
As long as you stay in the hotel it pretty safe
Amazing friendly service! We received an early check in so that was a huge bonus! Location was convenient for our time in the City. Would definitely stay here again. Much thanks to the staff. They were outstanding.
Will never ever stay here again you could pay me money to stay there and I wouldn’t do it. Extremely unsafe
good
Stay was good. We were there overnight for a wedding so we didn’t get to enjoy much of the amenities offered
The area around the property feels unsafe with people camped on sidewalks on both sides of the hotel. Room is small and fridge and AC were too loud. We wanted to leave earlier but were told that we would be charged for the entire duration regardless. Breakfast is decent and the property is well maintained and clean from the inside.
Hotel was nice and beautiful, the area not that much , a lot of homeless people on the sidewalk awful urine smell.
Keep looking…
Arrived to find the hotel is in an area that seemed quite unsafe. There were many transients on the sidewalks and blocking entrance to the building. When we walked up to the main doors, they wouldn’t open so we walked around a bit until someone finally came out so we could go in. When we checked in I asked about parking, due to the large groups of homeless hanging around, and we were told we could find our own parking at any available public parking areas or pay the $65 for secure valet parking. We settled on the valet as there wasn’t much in the way of public parking close by and I was trying to avoid having my car messed with. When we walked down the halls the carpets were filthy like they hadn’t been vacuumed in a week. There was a pile of canned goods and other food boxes stacked up in a heap next to the elevators. The room was clean at first glance but we soon noticed the bed linens had dark brown and red stains on them. In the morning we went down to check out breakfast and they have it located on floor “0”, which has no AC and they had fans posted up all over the place to try and keep some sort of air moving. It had to be 90 degrees in there and I was soaking wet with sweat by the time I finished my powdered eggs and muffin. Just not a place I would recommend or stay at again for that price.
Great continental breakfast!!! Clean hotel.
Excellent oasis to chill and unwind in the middle of an area that's seen better days. Lots of unhoused folks in the blocks surrounding. Property itself was great though. Will be back!
Soso
This property is on the edge of 5th street and has an alley that is filled with unhoused. From our second floor window we had a front row view of people using illicit substances. This property has tiny rooms that don't meet the typical standard for Hampton Inn. The surrounding area made it that much worse. I would never suggest anyone ever stay at this location. I also never receive the amenties that are expected by a Hilton Honors member.

Unfortunately San Francisco has its bad areas and this was one of them, it’s not the hotels fault but I personally wouldn’t book in the area no more. Staff was helpful and friendly overall
.
Stay was perfect for what we needed it for~ Great Staff!
The staff was incredible!
did not have hot water
The staff members were very friendly, the location was great overall. Walking distance to many places was a bonus and there was nearby parking that wasn't too expensive.
The inside of the property was ok, hallways looked a bit worn but the rooms were clean, no view at all, breakfast was very basic, cereals, bagels/toast, and some hot eggs.bacon. etc. I stayed with coffee, the kids and wife declined. Around the property unfortunately lots of homeless everywhere, smells of urine and cannibis, making it less desirable to stay in the area. It seems to be a SF problem particularly bad in some parts of downtown.
Service was terrible
Nice place
Quite and clean hotel in the heart of San Francisco
Other reviewers complained about the homeless but the hotel is just inside the safe boundary, so it was fine. It was quiet at night, never heard any noises. Bathroom was spectacular. Living area was small and kind of plain, but clean. Breakfast was better than average and staff respectful.
The bare necessities: bed, bath, and door. For the amount of money they should have a refrigerator and microwave.
The hotel is not in good area. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Room cleaning was not the best, had to reach out underneath the bed and it was never cleaned.
Very clean inside. Safe because they require key cards for access. The city around is filthy.
Great breakfast. Hot chocolate available all day long. Great security need room key to get in the building and in the elevator to go to your room. Small room; but great bathroom.
Lovely place to stay, breakfast was awesome.
The hotel was AMAZING. Very clean and friendly staff. Great continental breakfast. However, the location of the hotel was the issue. We felt very unsafe in the area. What used to be an amazing location has really gone downhill. It’s dirty and filled with homeless individuals. Unfortunately walking just down the street to the local diner we saw TWO people doing drugs right on the sidewalk. Police don’t enforce the area at all. We didn’t even feel safe walking around during the day. Will Not stay here again because of that.
Location does not feel safe/no security outside.
The room was small, the view was of a crack alley where I was able to see individuals screaming all night, getting high, and lots of police activity throughout my stay. While inside, I called to see if I could get toothpaste and was told I had to come down from the 10th floor to get it. I quickly put my tip away since the front desk didn't even bother to offer room service. It felt so unsafe stepping out of the hotel. I came back from my meeting at around 7:30pm and had to rush in as a drug user threw a bottle at the wall right after I crossed him. There seem to be no outdoor security of any kind, leaving guest to fend for themselves as they walked in. I did not feel safe during my stay.
The hotel its self was safe, clean and the staff was amazing. The breakfast was really good and fresh. The locations is great. If you not bothered by a few people down on thier luck, then its a great place. The view from the roof top is truly amazing. I for sure will book again.
Great experience!
The hotel room was too small. It was difficult to walk in the room. The room where the breakfast was served was very warm. The staff look like they don’t want to be there either. The area where the hotel is located is unsafe. Many homeless people in the area. The area is dirty and it smells like urine. I will never stay there again.
Lots a homeless around and smells bad real bad
