Wonderful boutique hotel. Reception staff were discreet but very helpful when engaged. Elegant breakfast included. Our suite seemed a little dated with carpeting and older feel but was comfortable. The bathroom on the other hand was big and modern. Amazing location as well. I would definitely return but would ensure to get one of the more updated rooms. The estate prosecco and macarons were an elegant touch.
The pastries and breads at breakfast were outstanding. The dining options in the area are very good.
The property was perfectly located and the staff were amazing. I have never been treated so well by staff anywhere. The food at Harry's was delicious and highly recommended. The only problems were : the pool (one of the main reasons I chose this hotel) was non operational and the room A/C just didn't cool to American standards of cooling down a room. I would definitely stay there again as the room was great, the food was great, the location was great and the staff amazing.
Hotel is right in middle of town. Old and elegant. "junior suite" is just a larger room (not a suite). Room attractive and elegant, but somewhat dated, not enough storage or surface area. (Problems with getting power from outlets - had to run long extension cord.) Staff very helpful and friendly (as is typical with 5*). Valet parking. Limited buffet for breakfast, but could order eggs. Pretty empty at breakfast. Hotel fronts on main plaza- perfect location.
Loved the room and the location.
This hotel was a wonderful place to stay especially if you are on a cruise because of the close proximity to the port we just rolled our bags over. The food is wonderful although simple for breakfast and the front desk people are full of helpful suggestions for pasta laces to eat. The only problem we had was the a/c had not been turned on yet in Mid May and with windows open and a fan in the room it was very difficult to sleep. The bed was comfortable but too humid for a good nights sleep
Staff were friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Hotel is just gorgeous. Elegant!
The location was really nice in the center of town and beautiful hotel wonderful restaurant and the staff was very helpful. I didn’t really have anything planned because I was just staying in Trieste for one night on my way to Slovenia. When I checked in, they suggested I go to the Kastel Miramare which was beautiful, spent four hours there it reminded me of the Schonbrun Palace in Vienna.
Absolutely loved everything about it.
Amazing location, Beautiful building , little tear off, but all in all very nice. Staff was amazing, thanks Jelena at the front desk- pleasant and professional!
Excellent!
Nice hotel at the heart of the city. Easy access to tourist highlights.
Overpriced
Great location, service. Room was spacious. AC did not cool despite report for 2 days. Buffet was scant, had to pay for eggs (signature required before order was placed). About 200€ overpriced.
Great central location and probably the best staff I ever had in a hotel
Great view!
Beautiful hotel, perfectly located. Easy access to many shops and restaurants. Staff was pleasant and helpful. We only ate breakfast at the hotel, a little pricey, but tasty. Great view of the square.
👍
Staff was incredibly helpful and attentive Professionally run establishment!
I n general I loved this hotel. The staff and service was exceptional. The food at the restaurant was excellent. The level of noise at night was high at night due to a bar next to the hotel.
Ivan at the front desk could not have been more helpful. Mathew the bellhop did everything he could to assist. Of course Harry’s Bar was classic and wonderful. I think I got the last available room but was treated like a frequent guest. Highly recommended.
Overall, nice, older hotel in pedestrian area with restaurants, cafés and bars. Great location. Apparently the hotel has to choose between either summer season and therefore the air conditioning is on or winter season and then the heat is on. We stayed at this hotel mid-October and apparently it’s “winter”. We were able to open the windows before we went to bed to cool off the room but the noise from the street wouldn’t allow us to keep the windows open, therefore it was very warm, stuffy and uncomfortable to sleep. The room, while nice, I was extremely small and simple.
Best location & fantastic service
The hotel is very well kept and located right in the heart of Trieste's Piazza della Unita. Fantastic noise insulation and service. Excellent for both business (which was my case) and leisure.
Beautiful hotel, inside and out. The staff are excellent. The only issue is the room, our air conditioning didn’t work so sleeping was difficult at 26 degrees. They could also do with a mirror in the room, I had to dry my hair using a small handbag mirror !
Nice staff, Prosecco on arrival, valet and busman were very efficient. Bartender was very good and friendly, we only ate in the bar, because the fine dining restaurant was full, but the service was great and so was the food. We ate out on a pier which had a great view of the sunset and good food. Overall, the hotel was wonderful and if we return, we will definitely stay at this hotel
Beautiful newly renovated room.
Comfortable and spacious
Very comfortable and spacious hotel with excellent facilities.
Underwhelming
The location is the best thing about this hotel, as well as the bar where breakfast is also served. The wellness facilities were very disappointing, with the jacuzzi and one sauna not working - they were nothing like on the website. The room we were in was very small and the bathroom basic and quite worn. For the money I am sure there are much better experiences.
First impression was woow Last impression was woow One of the most clean, comfortable and nice hotel I've been
Lovely stay in Trieste
This was a truly delightful stay. The staff were welcoming and friendly throughout our stay. The decor is striking. Breakfast is exceptional, with thanks to the chef and Signore Thom! We felt the wellness center and hot springs were a touch misrepresented in the advertising. A pleasant space for relaxing, but not offering the more intense heat of a therapeutic experience we were hoping for. Warm springs. Nevertheless, the location could not be beaten and we highly recommend this hotel, especially for its staff. Also, the Michelin starred restaurant certainly doesn’t hurt!
Excellent pool and sauna Very helpful staff. Very good breakfst buffet.
Room was very dated and needed refurbishment. Bed was soft and not comfortable
Perfect hotel for a stay in a very interesting town. Hotel has a great location on the plaza.
Excellent location, fancy rooms, convenient for getting to the water.
Perfect location and fantastic restaurant on property
It was well maintained, historic and beautiful. We loved the location overlooking the plaza and were just steps away from the sea board. We had easy access to restaurants and shopping.
It’s real GRAND at the Grand Hotel Duchi d’Aosta
Beautiful hotel! Hotel staff was amazing, friendly and very helpful!
Jan
Lovely hotel with a beautiful thermal spa!
Location was ideal, directly on main square. Very friendly staff and very nice breakfast. Most of all, extremely clean property overall.
I like the cleanliness, professionalism, great staff/ customer service, and of course the Roman bath.
Very nice property on a beautiful square. Harry's Bar was another treat in the hotel. Very good breakfast with a great waiter, Tommy.
Delightful place - elegant not fussy. Excellent restaurant.
A very warm welcome on arrive and a very enjoyable stay to match a very lovely place.in particular the reception staff and breakfast team were excellent.
Great location and breakfast. Unfortunately, Wifi worked poorly in rooms.
unforgettable !
Trieste is a great city to visit and your stay can be even more perfect if you stay here. We had a suite looking onto the square. The room was freshly renovated and everything was impeccable. Everyone is very friendly and breakfast on the square memorable.
The best
Amazing especially breakfast with tony
Too hot air conditioner wasnt working couldnt sleep room was to hot
Excellent central location. Very helpful reception staff. Hotel has a full range of amenities including an indoor pool and restaurant (pricey). Our top floor room was spacious, well equipped (but no kettle or coffee maker) and had a balcony with seating. On the minus side, the centralised aircon system did not cope with the hot weather. And our room was not serviced at all during our two night stay.
Fantastic location. Great style. Spacious bedroom. Lovely staff
Excellent location and facilities. Personnel from the hostel very friendly and ready to help. Breakfast was superb.
Great hotel right on the main square
Great hotel right on the main square with an outside restaurant where you can have breakfast and look out to the sea across the square. It also has an amazing pool area in the basement. Only problem is that the WiFi isn't that great however you can use the free Trieste WiFi while having breakfast outside info the square. The hotel seems recently refurbished and had old world charm
Loved the room, location and staff. Could have more electrical outlets, and the bath/shower was a bit difficult for old folks.
the location was excellent, the staff very helpful and kind. The room was small, but we were happy with the number of towels (even too much), temp control and toiletries.
This was a very charming hotel. Attention to detail and very well versed receptionists. We appreciated the elegance and little personal touches and the bed was changed everyday. Superb. Would recommend this hotel highly.
Love this place!
We loved our stay at the charming Grand Duchi d’Aosta. Service was wonderful, with helpful hints from the front desk and generous service from Toni in the breakfast room. The lobby and common areas were charming. Our room was updated but cozy.
Lovely
Hotel is centrally located, clean staff is very professional. Breakfast is amazing!
Unbeatable location in the Piazza Unita D'Italia
Unbeatable location in the Piazza Unita D'Italia. The hotel appears to have been recently renovated without spoiling the charm of the older, elegant hotel. Harry's restaurant on the premises is a definite plus. We were thoroughly satisfied with the room and the service.
trieste visit
lovely old world hotel in excellent central location on Piazza d'Italia. Nice to have an indoor pool. Excellent selection at breakfast Only criticism ,lack of towels in pool area at night and phone in pool area did not work
One Night in Trieste
The Grand Hotel Duchi d'Aosta was in a prime position on the Piazza (Unity Square of Italy) and the room we were given overlooked the square and the beautiful building's surrounding the area. Check-In on arrival was very good and the reception staff spoke good English and were very helpful. Our room was very clean with a large bed and a small but nice Bathroom. However, what was disappointing was the Spa area in the Basement which was Grubby, with a Sauna and Whirlpool that did not work and a Thermal Pool that smelt as if it had Chlorine in. Breakfast was OK, but lacked on hot food which was swopped for pastries and cakes if that's what you prefer. Trieste itself could be lovely if cared for, but a walk along the seafront displays lots of empty dilapidated buildings that were once great architectural delights and the whole place has a feel of neglect.
Location, location, and breakfast
Great location on the main square. The breakfast was one of the best we have ever experienced. Truly Old World with the gigantic room keys
Charming historic hotel in the heart of Trieste
Historic building with freshly renovated rooms. The pool is amazing.
Great Location
The hotel is in a great location and the room itself was very clean and tidy however the bed was way to hard and was like sleeping on the floor and the shower as beautiful but sadly the shower head was too top heavy for the cradle it sat in and kept falling out so it made it a bit difficult to wash your hair.
Friendly staff, great bathroom, very clean. Differicult to park/drop off luggage
excellent location. unique building friendly staff
Nice hotel in the centre of town, excelent historical building, nice renovated room, good breakfast. Top recomandation
This hotel has one of the best locations in Trieste. I was just not happy with their WIFI & internet connection. Also our room was on the first floor and it was noisy at night and during the day with construction. Also our room's door made a rattling noise with the wind, so it was not very comfortable from the noise aspect, but it was well remodeled & clean.
Lovely hotel on main square
Extremely clean room with comfortable bed great bathroom and good lighting Staff were very helpful and pleasant Breakfast was fabulous at least 7 sorts of cake. Also attentive staff
great breakfast!!!! great location and there is a pool!, even thought we discovered to late.
This hotel is areal gem
Wonderful hotel on the main square. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were spacious and top notch. The breakfast was awesome
Perfect stay in Trieste. Convenient to explore the city.
The hotel was amazing and the location can not be beat. I highly recommend to anyone visiting the Trieste area.
Real linen sheets, ironed to be smooth as silk and huge bath towels give this hotel a luxurious feel. The 1910 building sits on the main waterfront square with outdoor seating. You can imagine you are back in the Habsburg era. But with a/c.
Traditional hotel maintains great hospitality
Very friendly place, unlike many "Grand Hotels". Nice breakfast, good service, and outstanding location in the Piazza. The new heated swimming pool was unforgettable with its Roman ambience complete with murals and mosaics. If you are a swimmer, like me, this is a real treat!
Excellent Hotel in the heart of Trieste
The location of the hotel is exceptional, being just off the main square and within a few metres distance of both the regional and communal administrative buildings. It is also just off the beautiful main square facing the sea (Piazza Unita d'Italia), and within walking distance of the shopping streets. The bus station to the airport is 10 minutes walking distance. The hotel itself is very comfortable, with large rooms and full amenities. It serves a very good breakfast. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, and upon my arrival late at night, with my luggage not having arrived with my flight, the receptionist on duty immediately supplied me with the essentials for the morning. I rate this hotel overall as being excellent.
Grand hotel on one of the nicest squares in Italy
Second time at this Hotel, great staff , good breakfast, room a little on the small size but efficient, nice to be able to control your room temperature ( rare for Italy ) great bars, restaurants, restaurants and shopping within walking distance. I recommend Urbanis at aperitif time and La Tecia for good reasonably priced lunch or dinner Would go back again
Perfect location and enjoyable wellness center.
Spent only 1 night here meeting friends, but really enjoyed my entire stay. It is an old, historic hotel, but the building and rooms are very well maintained and clean. I really enjoyed the small, private wellness center they have downstairs, and the bar/restaurant situated right on the piazza. will definitely come back here.
Fabulous hoyel clise to everything
Fantastic, but although the bed and room was inviting, the mattress was not comfortable and the pillows were lumpy. Lived the pool, barhroom fantastic, breakfast supurb
ELEGANT OLD WORLD CHARM
Central location. Old world external. New updated internal
Wonderful Hotel
Wonderful Hotel with lovely old world charm. Beautiful, spacious rooms, incredibly helpful and knowledgeable staff (Sabrina was exceptional), incredible breakfast to start the day! Right on the Piazza but very quiet rooms. Close to everything
Watch out for the 7-day cancellation policy!
We had a change in travel plans and contacted both Expedia and the hotel on a Monday. We were supposed to stay for one night that Friday. We wanted to move our stay up a few nights to Tuesday or Wednesday, if possible. Generally, hotels at this level offer free cancellation up to 3 days before your stay. Not this one. They have a seven-day cancellation policy, and they held us to it with no leniency at all. Expedia tried to contact them separately, and our Expedia agent was told that there were no rooms available on Tuesday or Wednesday. I then called the hotel directly and was able to book a room for Tuesday night, no problem. But they absolutely refused (both my request, and a separate request from the Expedia team) to refund the cost of my Friday night reservation. We ended up paying for both nights, even though we only stayed for one. The hotel was only half-occupied on the night we spent there, which might explain their strictness. They are within their legal rights, of course, so I cannot complain about that. But in my experience, there is usually more leniency when you are simply changing the date of your reservation, not cancelling completely. I want to warn other Expedia customers to please pay attention to this policy, they are unforgiving! The staff we met on site was wonderful and friendly. The low rating is because of the difficulties we had with the reservation staff.
Lovely location, friendly, helpful staff. Amazing visit!
Charming hotel from another era
The Grand Hotel Duchi d'Aosta opened in 1873 and still has the look of an older era-- but with all necessary updates for comfort. The staff was helpful, the room was comfortable, breakfast was delightful (would have liked to have it outside, but some noisy construction was currently going on), and the hotel feels like it's at the center of things with its location on Piazza Unita' d'Italia. Alas, we only had a day, but I would happily return.
Best location in Trieste, beautiful area, central to everything, piazza facing the water. Excellent included breakfast in Harry's Bar. Close to bus and railroad station.
Perfect location.
Great location. Street parking available. Scooter rental a block away. Restaurant is good. Rooms are small. Pool and sauna facilities are interesting and different. Lots of common area space. Next door to information Center (i).
Great stay! Recommended
I had a great stay. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Location was amazing, right on the square. Breakfast was great and the pool floor was also very charming and a nice addition.
A gem in the middle of Trieste
Hotel Duchi is a gem! A boutique hotel in the middle of Trieste's old town, with a wonderful staff and a very good breakfast buffet, it is conveniently located for getting to all of the local sites. We had a very comfortable and spacious room with a queen size bed. The hotel is an excellent value for the price.
A great location in the center of Trieste
We enjoyed our stay at this grand hotel. While it is quite old, the rooms are very modern and up to date. The staff was most courteous and helpful. The breakfast each morning at their restaurant, Harry's, was delicious. We had a wonderful corner room with great views. We can highly recommend this hotel.
Historic and luxurious
Really amazing hotel. Very historic and classic, but also luxurious with a great pool and unbeatable location. Our unit on the 4th floor had a balcony and it absolutely made the trip. Best hotel experience of my life. Also the restaurant was great and the breakfast on the main square perfect.
Very comfortable hotel. Friendly staff. Great location
No gym
Fine but no gym in the hotel
Boutique style, centrally located and clean
We spent 2 nights here. It's more of a boutique style. To anyone from Melbourne, Australia, it's like The Windsor. Staff were friendly, it was clean and centrally located. Loved the linen sheets. The adjoining restaurant where guests have breakfast was on the expensive side for dining, however, there were a lot of locations to choose from close by. would go back.
excellent
Excellent location, stylish hotel, very friendly stuff, good breakfast, clean and comfortable hotel
This is a iconic hotel that unfortunately is very poorly managed. The place is falling apart and in urgent need of a complete makeover.
A great hotel in a fantastic location!
This hotel is simply beautiful and in an ideal location, just off the main piazza in the heart of Trieste. The decor and antique furniture are beautiful, giving you a glimpse of how the Triestan's would have lived hundreds of years ago. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the wifi was decent, however you need a daily code to access it, which hinders your connection if you're trying to keep in touch with the office! Parking however, is the downside to this town. The hotel doesn't have private parking for guests, but offers a valet service for an additional cost. Which is a shame since the price and 5 star quality of the hotel one would expect to have private parking for the guests included (and finding a parking spot in the streets is like trying to win the lottery!). This was really the only downside. The hotel and it's restaurant Harry's Bar and Grill, were great. I would highly recommend this hotel to travellers.
be indulged!
just PERFECT location. make a point of getting a room with a view to the square, beautiful evening light. and, o, the LINEN sheets! and the gloriously byzantine, frescoed, mosaiced, pool steam room and sauna was just decadent. breakfast is richly served, from flaky croissants, to light(!) buttery pound cake, yogurts, fruit, cheeses, fresh squeezed orange juice. Tommy, a charming, cheery, multulingual waiter, understood the american need of COFFEE, not only kept us well toppedup, but really enhanced our morning with his lively personality. trieste a marvelous surprise of a town, we plan to return in music season!
Great Central Location and Phenomenal Roman Pool
Great location with Harry's Bar attached. Easy to walk to all locations in central Trieste. The Roman frescos in the pool/hot tub area are phenomenal (Therium Magnum). One feels transported back to the days of the Roman Empire. Had the heated pool and hot tub to myself for an hot and a half on a Sunday morning. It is open year round. Great value too.
Excellently located decent enough hotel
A fantastically located hotel with some definite charm. The staff were brilliant and the immediate surroundings (right on the main Piazza) could not be better. The interior of the hotel was nice and the breakfast adequate, although it could have been larger. The pool and spa were acceptable, but not all facilities were working and a number of the items could have been better (steam room for example not functioning well). This could do with more regular checking from the staff. The room was also quite stuffy even with air con on full, but not a huge problem.
Great Hotel on the Plaza de la Unidad de Italia.
The hotel staff were very friendly and eager to help with suggestions regarding sights of interest in the city and how to reach those sights. We walked around the beautiful plaza and then throughout the city. We took the "No. 2 Tram", as suggested by a guide book, which took us up into the surrounding hills and provided a great panorama of the city.
Adequate
OK for a city centre hotel. Can be noisy but double glazing effective although then gets too hot. Nice decor in public areas. Rooms decor ok, but a bit downbeat. Food and coffee at breakfast not particularly good quality. Limited storage in room
Historic Hotel Remains a Top Choice
Excellent and historic location. The rooms are classic, but lack necessary climate control. Because of the constant traffic and nightlife, keeping a window open at night is not practical. Linen bedsheets are a welcome touch on the very comfortable mattresses and pillows. Breakfast is fair, but lacks basics like fresh-squeezed orange juice, and freshly-cut fruit. However, the hot chocolate and coffee are top notch, as is the local yogurt served in sealed glass containers. The spa is small, but nice. Unfortunately, at the time, the sauna was not functioning properly.
Great neighbourhood
Clean business hotel, lacks character. But it's location and neighbourhood are fantastic!
