Great place to stay had a twin room
The location is great for walking to all the tourist areas and is right next to the train station, but I don't think this is a 4 star hotel as Google maps indicates. It is a very pricey hostel with shady surroundings. No amenities are provided and need to pay extra for even towels.
Lovely staff ! Very convenient location.
Very nice hostel, rooms are big, beds are comfy and there is a nice bar on roof top with drinks and food where you can hang up and meet people.
Staff were friendly and helpful.Location close to Termini and Ancient Sites was great. It was a shame that there was no access to the roof terrace between 10:00 and 18:00 and the bar was shut. Single room was adequate, bathroom good and bed comfortable. The lack of a fridge was a real shame. Probably wouldn’t go back.
Sillly rules about eating and drinking in the room. Food available looked poor, We ate outside during the holiday. The area looked run down with lots of grafitti and litter. If you are prepared to walk about 1 to 2 kilometres there were many good restaurants,
Stayed for 3 nights and picked it due to it's proximity to Roma Termini. It was an adequate stay relative to it's cost.
We booked a room with a king-sizes bed as that was how it was advertised, but really it was two single beds pushed together. Also to add, the rooftop bar was not open, we asked staff members and they said it was due to the weather but it was 26-28 degrees at the time. Location is fairly good, approx 15-20 min walk from Colosseum and a fairly close distance to the bus to airport.
Lorenzo was super kind and helpful at the front desk. He handled big groups efficiently and made sure to acknowledge solo travelers also. By far an amazing brand ambassador.
Overpriced
We stayed 3 nights in a twin. It was essentially a hotel room, big and spacious with private bathroom. No problem with noise and very close to the train station. However, no breakfast included, no kitchen and the washing machines are 4 euro per wash or dry, expensive. I wouldn’t stay again as I think it’s very overpriced, I’d just stay in a regular hotel.
Acceptable hostel, the 24 hour front desk was nice, especially because my flights were in the middle of the night. The elevator was broken so they directed us to a sketchy service elevator. There was some mold above it but none in the room itself. Generally just good
First and last time in a Hostel! This one overpriced
They were building or fixing something next to my room and it was a little difficult to sleep with the noise. There were some problems with the shower and the lamp on my bed didn't work but there was an extra wireless bulb in case it was needed. Everyone was very friendly and it was easy to get there from the Termini station.
Good location near terminii and walking to the colusium. Staff could use some info help re passes and tours though.
Convenient location close to Roma Termini. Nice and clean facilities.
The AC didnt work that well. The hostel itself is in good condition bit it is on the wrong side of the train station i.e. dirry inconvenient side.
very clean and convenient, and the employees are also very good. I am very happy to live here
Lovely and safe hostel. I stayed in a 4 bed female dorm and felt so comfortable and safe. The room was so clean and the area was very quiet. The hostel is close to the metro and train station so was convenient to get around Rome. There were also luggage lockers which were very affordable if you want to leave your bag there after checkout. The only downsides were the lack of self catering facilities and the rooftop was only open for breakfast and then 6pm-midnight.
Generator Rome features an excellent location a short walk from Roma Termini and public transport. The room and facility was very clean and the staff very friendly. The rooftop breakfasts/bar was another excellent feature. The location is excellent for logistics but a more rundown part of the city.
Loved the rooftop bar after a day of exploring, the staff were all welcoming and friendly. The location was great for transport.
This hostel I really nice. It is safe inside, clean, spacious, and has a nice common area (although no one really used it). The staff were okay but not the most helpful. This is a less social hostel than others with no daily activities. The rooftop bar was amazing and a great way to meet people. Good drink, good area, great view. The area around the hostel was my biggest concern. I didn’t feel unsafe at all (as a solo female traveller) but it is definitely a worse part of the city because it is so close to the train station. All the main attraction of Rome are around 2kms away.
The bed is really stiff and the elevator was bad. Neighborhood was dirtiest of all neighborhoods we visited. Otherwise, staff was helpful and coffee was good.
Good location. Friendly staff.
Convenient, affordable stay in Rome
Generator Rome was a nice, affordable stay in Rome. It's conveniently located to the metro and the Colosseum. The room was nice and industrial style - nothing fancy (no mini fridge), but very nice for the price. The staff is friendly, the front desk is stocked with snacks, and the rooftop bar is cute.
This property looks great in the images, but it is already quite torn. The carpet in the hallways is terribly dirty. The bedroom furniture is badly designed, a bad nonusable desk, two chairs that occupy much of the room but no place to put a suitcase. The place smells. It was an ok experience since the bed is good, but the room does not look very clean. The areas around the hotel are terrible, the area is the back of Termini Station obviously as in major cities this area is full of trash, with no good places, and no restaurants. not recommended. I had another booking later in the month and had to cancel, due to this bad experience.
The team at this location works all together to make the customer experience the best! 10/10 a revisit for sure!
It’s a bit pricey. The hotel’s surrounding doesn’t feel safe at all.
everithing excellent except a pair of books desappear, but, I know that this could be happen. Is a pity. Very beautiful place, not easy to find it cause the different system of numbers in the street, easy with app.
Great value and friendly staff
The staff was friendly and accommodating. my room was clean and very smartly decorated. Generator has a great atmosphere and i will recommend them to my friends and family
When comparing this hostel experience with other hostels I have stayed at, I must say I was quite disappointed. Pros: I stayed in the women’s dorm and that was the best part. The room was comfortable and clean. Cons: 1. No kitchen access, limited public areas to socialize and you couldn’t bring your own food into any public areas. 2. The hotel is not in the best area and I actually avoided going out at night. There was also trash all around the neighborhood. 3. Even though I found the bar upstairs pleasant, the food/drinks were more expensive than most places in the city center. The hostel also charges you for everything from a padlock, to towels to storing your luggage.
It was good despite the closing of the bar and food service due to the covid-19
Hotel Quality for Hostel pricing. Standard of rooms was as good as a Four Star Hotel. Would reccomend. Will stay again.
The staff at Generator Rome is exceptional. I checked in with Marco and Dominico. They made check-in simple and easy. Last night, I had trouble with my credit cards and Hayat and Tiziano were so under standing and helpful. I also meet the manager Bernadetta. Now I know why the staff is so great. I would never stay anywhere else when visiting Rome. You shouldn’t either.
Perfect stay!
Great location by the central train station with buses also to the airport. Great value
Convenient
Comfortable hostel with friendly staff. Neighborhood is on the tougher side, but safe enough to walk around at night. Conveniently located near Termini and a subway stop.
location was weak point of the property. But the rest of stay was fine.
Holidays in Roma
I went to Roma on holidays. I stay that the Generator for 3 nights. Staff was very helpful. Walking distance from a lot of restaurants. Not to far from the center. 10 minutes from the Roma Termini.
I had a unique experience because I arrived two days early having already booked a private room and then needing to spend the first two nights in a dorm room. There were a lot of additional fees for the dorm room, including a 5 euro towel cost which I thought was a bit absurd.
Small private room in hostel - would say it was a bit pricey for a hostel but it is in Rome... Friendly staff, clean room but wouldn't recommend the breakfast. The rooftop was also shut while we were there due to the weather
Amazing place!!!
Perfect Location and the best activities!!!
The staff was always very friendly and helpful when I had questions.
Staff was super friendly and helpful, clean rooms.
I really enjoyed the small details that made it feel like you were in Rome including some antique pieces in our room. There was a ton of space! Two different rooms for shower and toilet which was great for four girls and for privacy. Really fun place and super accessible to Termini and all the sites of Rome!
Really great for the price point. Cheap breakfast available, and the lounge areas are quite nice and convenient. Close to train station. Would stay again.
Excellent place! Next time I look for a hostel in any city, I will start by looking for “The Generator”.
I LOOOOOOOVED THIS HOSTEL! This place is a palace compared to many other hostels I’ve heard about and stayed in. The bathrooms are big and the rooms are spacious. I stayed in a room with five other people and we had TWO FULL BATHROOMS between us within the room. And we also had AIR CONDITIONING!!!! This was especially a heaven sent as Rome was extremely HOT during the summer. The staff was friendly and always smiled when interacting with them and kept everything very CLEAN. The neighborhood the hostel is in is not the best, but I also didn’t feel unsafe. If I ever find myself back in Rome I would definitely stay here again. Generator Hostels are the best, but especially in Rome.
OK
There are quite a few extra charges and no kitchen even to make a cup of tea. It is ok.
One of best hostel I have stayed in.
Pros √ Extremely clean and spacious. √ Staff is super friendly and helpful. √ Beds are very comfortable (memory foam I believe) and the blanket feels just like the one back home. √ Huge lobby to relax/spend your evening meeting people/playing cards, etc. √ Buffet Breakfast is 7£ but is worth it as you can eat as much as you want. Get yourself an espresso for £1.50 and start your day Italian-style! √ Central location. (1 Metro stop away from Termini) Cons √ None Would recommend.
Nothing Impressive
From a loyal customer of Generator Chain it worth highlighting that Nothing was impressive about Generator Rome if compared to other Generator Hostels accross other European cities , No Severe ugly experience occured yet unfortunately i could rank it the least accross other generator hostels in terms of everything.
This hostel is so beautiful! Very chill. Only wish there were better breakfast options for the price and to have a full menu.
this location for generator hostel is actually decent. They are very clean. But you have to pay for every little thing that you would expect at a hotel. So be prepared to bring your own items including towels.
Brilliant place to stay and not far away from some nice restaurants etc for the evening. Only downside for us ( as a couple in our late 20s) there were quite a few teenage/ young adults running around chasing and shouting really early in the morning (3am ish) however I guess this type of accommodation is more attractive to younger travelers, something for us to bear in mind for future travels. The place was brilliant though and the staff were very friendly and helpful!
Okay for 1 night, nice decor but wear & tear shows
Stay for one night in transit in 6 bed mixed dorm. Staff accommodated my request to switch beds in same room after I saw layout. There were two bathrooms which would have been nice but the door latch/lock on one bathroom didn’t work some most people only used the one. The room and bathroom were clean when I arrived the the bathroom could have benefited from a mud-day cleaning since most of use were using only one of the two in the room. The decor through the hostel is nicely done but this is a large hostel that has a lot of guests which shows in wear & year throughout (worn hallway carpets, broken door latches, have to push toilet button a particular way to actually flush, etc). As with other Generator hostels, there is an in-house bar and cafe with convenient but overpriced food and drinks. I found the food selection here to be limited and no outside food is allowed. The hostel is very close to Termini so there are lots of people on the streets in the area around the hostel. I found this similar to large transit centers I’m familiar with in the US so I used the same general precautions and felt safe. Overall, good good for one night stay that is convenient to transportation and sightseeing, but I wouldn’t stay for an extended period of time.
Location is excellent. It’s walking distance to public transportation station. Staff is very nice and speak English:) I would definitely come back again.
I really enjoyed my private room in this Hostel. The bed, shower, and wif were all pluses. The location is just a block away (or basically connected to the hotel) from the Vittorio Emanuele subway station and was perfect to get to the tours and activities that I had planned for the trip. It is also just minutes of a walk from Roma Termini- which was my method for getting to the airport (14 euros) and has nice restaurants and shops.
Great stay
“When IN ROME”,..........
Good “SAFE HOUSE” in a “COMBAT ZONE”!
Not that bad
In general everything about this hostel were ok. Only the area of the place look bit unsafe but it was fine. If i wasn't wrong, there were no kitchen for you to cook.
Good location, friendly staff, nice fit out. I had a private room, it was small but clean and quiet. My first visit everything was perfect but my second stay here when I returned to Rome there were a couple of minor things broken in the room (toilet seat, light). Otherwise a good experience. Laundry facilities were handy.
Great hostel, dodgy area
Clean spacious rooms, 3 bed hostel w attached bathroom. Spotless and nice decor. Early check in was possible. Helpful staff and good vibes. Very close to Termini so good if you have an early flight to catch. The area is a bit dodgy though.
Great hostel and good location.
Great hostel
I could not sleep because there was a guy who was snoring all through the night. it was a horrible night.
Great hostel with a nice vibe, comfy bed, awesome staff and easy location.
Nice Hostel; reasonably priced with friendly and helpful staff. However, our twin room was quite basic, and would benefit from a few improvements such as better lighting and refreshing some of the corridor spaces. Although conveniently placed for the train station, the area was mixed.
The Generator Rome Hostel was Excellent. The room I was in was very clean with plenty of space for all the guests. My room had two bathrooms in the room. One was very large and the other one was a nice size as well. I knew the Generator would be nice place to stay. I use Expedia and the guest ratings are very accurate. I have stayed in different hotels, B & Bs, and hostels over the 160 days I have been in Italy, in the last 16 months. What made Generator better than all the others has nothing to do with the excellent hotel accommodations. It was the staff at Generator that was so amazing, friendly and helpful. The best group of staff members I have ever meet in my years traveling around the world. When I checked in with Marco and Aldo I was very happy and surprised how friendly and helpful they were. They answered all my questions. Later I meet Tania. She was as wonderful and helpful as well. The next morning during breakfast I meet Hayat and Dominika. Hayat was working registration and Dominika was working the breakfast. They were very friendly and answered more of my questions. They all spoke English very well. Even though I asked so many questions. They keep answering them and helping me with all of my needs. Finally, I meet Mark and he was great as well. I will be back in Rome very soon and will definitely stay at Generator. I hope to meet the Owner/Supervisor/Manager. She must be an amazing person as well. Grazie staff. See you soon!!
Nice hostel close to the Rome sights
Lovely stay- great staff. Great cafe down the road. Lovely Bar. Clean Bedrooms.
Clean and comfortable
Close to Rome’s Termini station, and a short walk away from places like Coliseum, Forum, and Palatine Hill. Neighborhood looks a little gritty, but I encountered no issues. Hostel was clean and comfortable.
Take your own towels unless you want to pay €5 per towel..
I liked the layout of this location versus the one in France. It is located in walking distance to the Roma Terminal - a major train station. I was able to get to the airport in 30 minutes. I stayed in a 6-person room and I much preferred it to the 4-person room I had in France. The lounge has a bar and was inviting enough to spend time in it. For the price do not expect a 3 star hotel experience, but as a place to lay down your head after a day/night of sightseeing and/or drinking its was well worth it.
Very nice room and clean nice shower, modern and comfortable, downfall is the location. It's near a subway stop to get to attractions and places to eat but the immediate area is a sketchy neighborhood, feels dangerous and it's not comfortable to walk to and from at night, and not very clean. Also if you use subway be aware they quit just after 11pm.
The staff could not be more friendly and helpful. The space was hip and comfortable and very clean. The only drawback for me was the location. While close to the main train station, it could feel dodgy at night.
Lots to say.
My overall experience here was good the place is decently clean but needs a renovation badly, the actual location of the hostel I found to be very sketchy I actually had to stop a guy from stealing from one of the girls in the common area he was not staying in the hotel he had wandered in off the street and was trying to pickpocket people in the bar. This is not my first time in a hostel and it's not the worst but the area is the reason for the negative points.
Great solo stay
Great time and close to everything
Good
Good
Nice!
Modern, clean and close to the Metro so it was pretty easy to get around. Air conditioning a big plus on hot summer days and the wifi connection was great!
Great place, staff were friendly, wifi was fast, A/C was great, beds were super comfortable. Located close to the main train station and the metro. Neighborhood isn't as nice as others in Rome, but not bad at all.
The hostel was nice, the location is convenient to the Rome Train Terminal.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who enjoys a chic and modern atmosphere. The staff were excellent, knowledgeable and friendly. This hotel is located close to both the Termini and the Vittoria Emanuele subway stops with the latter being just behind the hotel. The room although is slightly small but it is cozy enough for a 3-day stay. There is a bar area with daily different evening event. The sunday DJ night was awesome. Internet is stable. The only downside was our room was situated next to the laundry room and so we heard the banging of the door every other 5 minutes. If we can get a room away from it or if the hotel puts a damper to the laundry room door, that will solve the problem. I still recommend my friends to try this hotel.
Terrible terrible terrible terrible terrible! Do not recommend staying here staff are incompetent and lazy and the room smelled like semen.
Nice clean hostel
All the photos advertise are accurate and the general feeling and atmosphere is welcoming the only downfall I experience was there was not central air or air condition, which resulted in the room being very warm. Location wise it's just a few minutes from the train station and metro station the general demographics of the area can be off putting to some but it's felt safe for me.
Good just the people knocking on our door drunk etc hindered the trip but it is a hostel and that's out of your control
Disappointing for the price
Good morning and overall disappointment I will think it may be ok for young kids but not for adults
Enjoyable stay
Lovely stay at the hostel. Friendly and welcoming staff along with comfortable bunk bed.
Good Clean hostel
The location is good, rooms are clean, but additional city tax is charged, as well as 3 Euro luggage storage fee. It would be helpful if these fees were mentioned before booking.
Amazing
Amazing! great service, great accomodation!
3 wonderful days in Rome at a budget Price. Staff nice!
Soooo clean!
So clean and the staff was so helpful. Also close to all the main attractions. Definitely would recommend.
Very good and clean hostel to stay near Termini station.
Wonderfully designed and managed designer hostel
Compliments to Cristina and the reception team, plus the two female bartenders, and the lovely lady in the breakfast area, who suggested to me, for the little more than the price of a cappuccino, I can get the entire buffet breakfast. The design flourishes in the hotel and the rooms are really engaging, it's really good value and the hostel is a lovely addition to the suburb of Esquilino in Rome and the Roma Termini area. I had a room with private bathroom and on a high floor, corner room. The amount of light coming in as there were 2 windows was great, the bathroom even more comfortable than what I have at home. The aperitivo at the bar, really well priced, and the cocktail list is great. So much to love about the hostel, really well done the Rome team. Hope to see you soon on my next visit!
Nice staff and simple
I've stayed at many Generators in private rooms and the service is consistent. The staff was helpful and nice and the design of the building is hip and trendy. Rooms are simple but that's all you need. The area around Termini is not the nicest but it is convenient. A great choice and I highly recommend Generator. I've never had a bad experience at any of their locations.
Good for a nights stay
The staff was nice and the hostel is very close to the train station.
A good hostel to stay while in Rome.
The location, cleanliness and comfort are reasons why I consider this hostel a good place to stay while in Rome. I couldn't comment about their breakfast coz I didn't avail their offer. There are restaurants around the area that you can choose and some mini groceries also.
Excellent conditions
The hotel staff was very pleasant and cordial. The room and halls were very clean. At night it was very quite. They had plenty of coffee and good breakfast. Overall a decent hotel. Thanks to the staff they recharge my camera's batteries every night. Also the hotel is close to the Roma termini which comes very handy when traveling by train inside the city or going out of the City from this hotel you can walk to any of the landmarks except the Vatican City is a bit far.
One of the best hostel experience I had! I willl come back here when I return to Roma
Great place to stay, beautiful room and facilities
Really nice place, very close to all to tourist spots. A bit of a grubby area but short walk to nicer parts of town including the Spanish steps, colosseum etc. Convenient access to termini station and other public transport as well. Would recommend!
Quirky fun stay in Rome handy for travel to & from
First time staying in Generator Hostel very nice accommodation and welcoming staff. Room was lovely and great size. Located near the train station and within walking distance of places but the neighbourhood can be a little overwhelming with the diversity found in and around. One more critical point is that even though buffet breakfast is handy option I feel the options and quality is not the best, a little boring and bland compared to the rest of the experience and atmosphere that the rest of the accommodation provides, so I think that needs a little improvement.
Good value, central and close enough to the main sites although area around the train station not the best
Awesome!
The staff here are so incredible. I only had one night to stay there so I asked for tips to cover the major sightseeing spots. Very friendly and helpful. Great hostel! Very clean. Highly recommended.
