Needs some updating but good location
Convenient if they have a good price offering. Breakfast is pretty basic with no protein offering. Rooms, beds and linen are clean
This place is like the Tardis: small on the outside, but big on the inside. I got lost for a brief moment because I wasn’t paying attention on how I got to my room. 😬
The kitchen staff were very friendly each morning. The area itself is rather noisy at night as windows needed to stay open to ventilate the rooms.
Suited the purpose of my stay
Suited the purpose of my stay, nice big building, check-in was easy. My only gripe would be, it could be explained more that the address is UPPER Gardiner Street (I made the mistake of looking for it in Lower Gardiner St).
Staff was amazing and helpful. Everything was clean and many helpful options to relax around. The only downside is the laundry which the dryer barely works. Best to take your clothes down the block for a couple Euro’s more. Overall an amazing experience. Would recommend!
This is a very comfortable space with friendly staff. We had a two person room, and the beds were comfortable and bedding lovely. The breakfast is modest, but we weren’t really planning on it, so that’s fine.
Mold in the showers. They close access to the laundry room when the kitchen is closed but don't tell you that, and the laundry room sign says it's open all day. Also the dryers are terrible and will just stop working but still eat up your money ($3/90 minutes of electricity). Even the staff dryer took 2 hours to dry a small load and you have to sit there the whole time because the staff take your stuff out (they didn't take it out of the staff dryer - they took it out of the regular washer and I walked in 2 minutes before my time was supposed to be up) Gate code for parking changes every Tuesday but they don't tell you that, so you come back late Tuesday night not sure why it won't work and have to park in the alley while you run in and get the new code. Chapel 19 is stifling hot. Miserable. Gendered shower/toilet rooms but not sure why because each is a separate room with a door. But the men have a nice big walk-in shower for the bathroom that goes with Chapel 19 & 6. Women only get small showers. Also no shelves or anything to put your shower stuff on in the shower. No shelves or curtains in the dorms so very little privacy and no place to put your stuff. Don't hang your towel on the bed posts to dry - staff will remove them and they charge for towels. The breakfast is not what they advertise. Toast with 2 types of jam and 3 kinds of cereal. Stairs with torn carpet (trip hazard) This hostel is way too expensive for the quality it is.
While I stayed in a private double room with ensuite on the top floor, this was still a hostel. My room overlooked the very noisy street at the front, and there were loud young people screaming down the hall. This did stop after 1030 pm. The room was very plain and clean, the bathroom institutional looking. Some fast takeout food joints nearby. Very close to coach stop for the airport. My bus, however, never came, likely stuck in a traffic incident. Overall, quite an expensive and stressful stay. Dublin accommodation is as expensive as London’s, with less variety of rates. I’m sure it’s a great hostel though for those who don’t mind them. Plus Taylor Swift was in town so that May account for a few things.
The room was what I expected. Fairly quiet after about 11:00pm.
The price is exceptional compared to other hostels. I don't know how they do it.
Cozy Comfort and Warm Hospitality
My first night in Dublin was spent at Gardiner House Hostel. Arriving late at the check-in counter, I was greeted warmly by the female staff. Her friendly demeanor immediately put me at ease, especially since it was my first visit to Ireland and I was unfamiliar with the country. The atmosphere of the hostel was welcoming, with clean and comfortable accommodations that exceeded my expectations for a budget-friendly stay. The common areas were well-maintained, providing opportunities to socialize with other guests or simply relax after a day of exploring the city. In addition to the friendly staff and cozy atmosphere, Gardiner House Hostel also offered convenient amenities such as free Wi-Fi and complimentary breakfast, adding value to my stay. Overall, my experience at Gardiner House Hostel was excellent. I would highly recommend it to fellow travelers looking for a welcoming and affordable place to stay in the city.
Check in staff member wa friendly and efficient.
Loud and hot
Out of the fray
Easy access to airport
Great hostel! Highly recommend
Nice
Would recommend if staying in Dublin and looking for somewhere to sleep at a reasonable price. There is a common kitchen that you can use and stock food in. Bathroom are common but still give a sense of privacy. Great place to meet new people andthe service is good. Breakfast included in price, staff very kind and helpful. It's very safe and has a good atmosphere the only issue might be that I would have perhaps preferred a larger locker space that could fit all my things so as to feel even more comfortable.
Shared room with very loud young girl- who decided to blow dry her hair in 5am inside the room- also when came back to room at night - also was very loud and talked on the phone at night. Other wise the stay was pleasant
I reviewed earlier on my check in i wasn't pleased but when i got my room it was clean complimentary coffee and pot along with tea if thats your preference along with water it was nice the bathroom was always clean breakfast was on time and good the receptionist staff was good i was satisfied thanks Gardiner staff.
Very nice space and very affordable! Had a great time, and enjoyed the complimentary breakfast option as well! Easy to socialize if you want, and also easy to stay to yourself.
This was my first stay at a hostel, I was very favorably impressed. The people at the desk were very helpful and well informed. The facilities were great providing space and convience for meal prep, storage and refridgeration. Secure luggage storage, lockers available. Even books to read and guitars to play. Outside eating areas as well as a great dining area. Everything was kept clean.
1 night stay here for Dublin marathon. Convenient location as the hostel is central and about 20 minutes walk from start line. Breakfast was good to get as part of my stay.
Great stay for the price. Satisfied with my stay
Great place to stay before flight
The staff at the front desk are EPIC! Fast, Friendly, and knowledgeable about the area
Very friendly staff and a great time. As a first time Hostle stay for me it was a fantastic experience.
Better than a Budget Hotel
First time in Hostel, pleasantly surprised. Great experience, better than my usual stay at Easy Hotel at double the price! Friendly staff, clean facilities.
Great ubicación
Great place to stay, has everything you need. Breakfast is good value. Very walkable from city centre. Staff all really nice. Only thing is sensor lights in bathrooms are a bit annoying, lights switch off every couple of minutes so you have to keep moving.
Ali
Very good place to stay near city centre very nice people and staff very helpful
Par for the price and location
Cheap and cheerful hostel located in a good location, not too far from O'Connell Street and some good bars/restaurants. The staff were friendly and the accomodation had everything you need from a hostel. The mattress wasn't super comfortable but fine for a couple of nights...as always with places like this - it's the people you meet that make it an experience and there's plenty of cool/friendly people staying here
Good Hostel
A nice well kept city hostel, cheap enough with clean rooms and an ok breakfast - not cooked, but sufficient.
Nice place to stay but if they say you have to be quiet at night to don't disturb others, why do they allow to have parties with loud music after 11:00 pm? It was hard to sleep having. The bathroom has also a bit of mold. You will receive a tidy and a clean bed. The breakfast is good ( cereales, milk, toast, butter, jams, orange juice, hot chocolate, apples, oranges, a bananas) you can get anything you want. You also have to leave a deposit in cash or a card detalles ;-)
The staff were great!
Really good location, room was okay apart from one bed was very uncomfortable. Staff were great, facilities great and the garden area was absolutely lovely!
Unfriendly staffs, loud and not clean
Great place to stay
Customer service was great, check-in and out was easy and the option to store luggage was perfect as it meant we did not need to carry our luggage around with us all day. Rooms were spacious and clean and I loved having a TV and a kettle in the room. I just wish there were more pillows provided / more support for the neck when sleeping. Breakfast was a nice surprise as there was plenty to choose from. Overall I would recommend Gardiner House Hostel for anyone looking for an affordable stay in Dublin.
We liked the fact that it was clean and overall a friendly and safe place to be. Our room was street side and also took the afternoon sun. Because the room had very little circulation it was way too hot with no way to cool it down, even though the temperature outside was moderate. We had to keep the window closed because of the street noise.
Good location for a few days' visit to Dublin, value option
Best hostel in Dublin
Checking in and out was a breeze, the property was very nice and clean. In walking distance of lots of restaurants, bars, salons, etc. Only complaint was that there were a couple out of order bathrooms and that left me waiting for their availability. I would absolutely stay here again, thanks to the wonderful staff!
It’s not the people fault cause it was a holiday but during my stay I was very uncomfortable with being with too many people inside the room. Besides the smell was strong , guys pukka hard to used bathroom. I didn’t stayed the full night and left the property very early. Again was New Year’s Day so makes perfect sense experience this issue. Staffing was great very friendly and cute
Affordable, great overall environment. Friendly travelers and one of the few places to offer free breakfast at an affordable price to stay. The walk is not too bad to get to the main city area. It states 20-30 mins walking but I found myself doing it in 15-20 mins instead. There are plenty of bathrooms to freely use without feeling like someone is holding a line. The TV room and dining area with the pool table were also nice areas to just relax and hang out. The kitchen to freely use to cook and keep your ingredients in a cubby was very efficient. My one slight issue was that the pillow was too flat and the mattress but it didn't stop me from having a full sleep. Overall great experience. I would do it again in the same place.
K
Checkin was good. "included breakfast" is just toast and fruit. Mattresses are horrible. Even for a hostel! Springs sticking into my back... and I'm not a very big person... I could only image a bigger person on these. Place is relatively clean.
Gardiner House made Dublin feelin like home.
Easy to get to. Lovely breakfast. Interesting property.
It was away from city center but close to walk to
It was not in the main city center but it was close.
People were nice. Good crowd. Rooms were clean. Facility less so. People didn't follow the rules - maybe that's normal. The walk into the center of the city was a bit farther than I was wanting, and the neighborhood has been impacted by the refugees and many services were closed around there - restaurants, etc... Had to go farther for a good meal.
The property was in a nice area. Quiet. Well kept and clean. Lots of bathrooms/showers so I never had to wait. The breakfast was plentiful and the staff kept everything available. Nice selection of food and fresh fruit. The front desk people are extremely helpful with questions and suggestions. Good security for access.
The staff was pleasant, but didn't mention there's a tv room with sofas and I've found out about it only at my check out. That wasn't great besause the weather was fairly cold outside and so were the communal areas in the basement. Other than that the hostel is quite far walking from the centre, but there are busses around. The room itself, well it's really poorly ventilated with bathroom attached to it, so the chapel room is super humid. There's plenty of black mould on the pretty chapel windows and in the bathroom. Beds are comfortable, but the room has very strong Led lights that if someone switches on i. The middle of the night, you can be sure it will wake you. Evening else with the hostel was fine, I'm sure the nice communal yard in the summer must be great, but unfortunately I've visited in November:)
Very good location , right at the bus stop (and I paid 20 euro for the taxi from the airport!!!) Staff is very friendly. However, big rooms are kinda cold ;/ heater turns out at night only
I like everything about it, like, location, cleanliness, staff's friendly manners etc
Good value for price
Good experience, and would definitely recommend!
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The kitchen, dining, and terrace facilities were excellent! The room and bathrooms were all very clean. Will definitely be returning when I'm next in Dublin! The only downside was the road noise, but that can't be helped.
In my opinion Dublins best Hostel
The Hostel is nice and clean, the staff friendly and all essential services are provided, they have a luggage room and let you leave your luggage for free after your departure / between stays, I lived in total 2 months at this Hostel and it's my favourite in Dublin. I recommend the 4/6 bed dorms for people who need a good night's sleep, because the large dorms are really unpleasant especially the 32 bed room is a bad experience.
This place was clean and safe. The safe were willing to answer all of our questions. It wasn’t a far walk to the restaurants or shopping, depending on were you are wanting to go.
Good value but you pay the penalty for sharing.
Too noisy as property on a busy road, couldn’t sleep properly. Dorms too small. Towels provided for 1EUR.
Good location, uncomfortable beds
Location wise was ok, and the structure was mainly clean. I was in a shared dormitory for 6 people, and on a floor of 4 dormitories, there were only one toilet and two showers. Beds were not comfortable whatsoever. The ladder to the upper bunk bed was too high up from the floor that I had to jump every time I needed to get up (I'm not a short person, luckily), the mattress was uncomfortable and every time and it had a metallic base that made loud noises every time one turned. Breakfast was included: no healthy options, just a big spread of sugary things, full fat milk and the bare minimum of fruit, which wasn't worth it, especially as it gets laid out in the kitchen and people have to drag it to a separate dining room.
Location, cost, security and cleanliness were excellent.
It was a really nice hostel, clean, friendly staff and in a good location. I will definitely like to stay there again
I liked that it was spacious, plenty room for common areas, individual bathrooms so no one is rushing you. It was 15 min walking distance to main street, buses were close by. Downfall, Wifi was hardly working, the washers and dryers were barely functional. Overall good stay.
Really clean. Really friendly and helpful staff. Safe parking at a price of 10 euro per day and laundry tokens (wash and dry) with cleaning powder available for 7 euro. Kitchen with all amenities available to cook and store your staff as well as simple but free breakfast.
Clean well run but a bit too big to provide the intimate hostel experience you want -- about a kilometer off down town so adds a bit to exploring. Staff efficient but not interactive.
A Successful 1st Hostel Stay
My first time in a hostel but a spacious and clean place displaced many fears. Staff were friendly, breakfast and hot drinks were an added bonus as I used the dining area to work during the day. The room I slept in was clean, had a loud snorer in one of the beds but that is the gamble when staying in a room with 6 or 7 strangers! Would stay there again for sure if over in Dublin for work or in a group that booked out a whole dorm.
Only once in my lifetime
Need to be clear about parking and limited space, front staff wasn't able to provide local parking garage to park till something opened on their lot. Bring alot of coins for parking on the street 2 per hour. Breakfast choice of cereal and toast needs to include bagels or toaster waffles or pancakes. Within walking distance of downtown. Room was good size and comfortable. Bathroom for the floor was very large. Picnic table in the back for socializing was nice. Was able to leave our luggage while we went into town. Pricey for a hostel with 10.00 parking extra if available.
Desk staff were very helpful and the location was great.
Spacious and clean. You have charging points by the bed. Kitchen is a good size and is cleaned regularly. The rooms got a bit warm at night though and you can hear everything.
Clean, up to date hostel, with helpful staff and great location
Good hostel for the price.
Good hostel over all. The staff is nice and the price are good. The chapel experience is a bed in a 18 person room.. bring some earplug and a eye mask because there's a lot of movement and door opening during the night (the toilet are outside the room).
A excellent staff, good breakfast, rooms perfects, clean hostel.
good and safe enough for a 3 days citytrip
Not so safe area or place to leave one's bike; also have you booking number ready to hand at reception.Very close to lively buzy street of Asian electronic shops toward city centre. Excellent showers, and converted covent worth viewing
Very comfortable and good location
Wonderful
Recommend
Nice place and great staff
The location is quite far from downtown. Some staff is nice, but one member openly laughed at me when I asked why there was only one functioning women's toilet on a floor of over 40 people. He said it "was never a problem" - but it was several times on our floor. People running to other floors. The two men's toilets on our floor never had paper. We all had to use the other floors' bathrooms, which annoyed (understandably) the women there. The showers were laughably bad - no water pressure, broken heads, etc. The cleaning staff was rude all the time.
It’s clean Stayed in 6 bed hostel which was okay It’s a hostel experience
I would go back to this hostel.
"Clean" hostel. Bathrooms are convenient to use. Soap dish and shower caddy would be nice though. I dropped my soap container with my soap in it many times. (yuck!) I just rested it on the shower handle. Also no place to put your shampoo and conditioner bottle but on the floor. Another yuck! Staff cleans even the base board of the hallways but they don't change gloves when cleaning ( after transferring trash into a big plastic bag by hand then they use the same gloves to touch and change new hand towels in the bathroom. Same thing after cleaning the toilet bowl. Eeeks! They think they're not spreading germs because their hands are covered in gloves. Big kitchen but the fridge needs to be more organized. A supervisor checks the room if the housekeeper did a good job. Bed is made of spring: not very comfortable, pokes my back ( I've had shoulder injury and surgery) but I asked for another blanket to add a layer on my bed. It helps. Staff was accommodating and helped me with this request. I really appreciate it.
Nice, clean hostel the in Dublin 1 area.
I think it's the best long term hostel in Dublin. It's very clean and spacy. The stuff at the Gardiner like: Evandro and Gabriela are super helpful.
Nice but room very warm. Staff very friendly. Great value for money
Well staffed and very safe feeling. Mostly young college age people, but the staff was great and it was very clean. People behaved well. A huge kitchen to cook your own groceries was very nice.
The location was excellent. All the staff helped with any questions i had. I was given a map upon arrival.
Comfy but beware light sleepers
We were hesitant about the shared bathrooms at first, but they were exceptionally clean and some even had renovated showers. There were also lots of extra bathrooms on upper floors so you didn't have to wait long. The beds were very comfy and the free breakfast was a plus. My only concern is that it is an old building with old windows that are not well soundproofed, so you could hear anytime someone opened or closed the door in the hallway, and you could hear all the traffic outside. They provide earplugs but it doesn't block out all the noise - so may be a concern if you're a light sleeper. It's also about a ~20min walk to Temple Bar area so not as central as other hotels.
Generally a good stay for travellers on a budget
The area around the hostel didn’t feel too safe at night but the accommodation provided good value for its price and wasn’t too far off from the city centre. Bed and pillows could be more comfortable but were acceptable as we were only there for a night. The traffic outside the hostel can get quite noisy but earplugs were provided so we weren’t too bothered.
Dublin Marathon weekend
My stay was very good, ideal for going to a concert in the 3Arena and in a central location to get to Dublin Marathon on Sunday morning. The breakfast was the best I've seen in a hostel with plenty of cereal, fruit, toast etc.
Lovely clean room with fabulous staff. Very central location and easy to walk to the mains streets. Great spread provided for the breakfast that was included in my stay. Great hostel.
At check in they didn't have any room available or clean.they said to come back later ( at 3pm) Shared bathroom were dirty after check in. I ask for a lower bed and they said thta everybody were assigned already. Its 3:53am i'm at the 3rd floor and i can hear everything that is happening at the lounge area.
The staff were awesome and the rooms (had a private one) were very good. My only problem were the showers. A lot of them had irregular pressure and temperature changes. I think the first floor was the most reliable.
Great place! Clean, friendly, close to the city.
I am used to 5 stars hotel and this hostel was amazing. Really clean. I met bice people who were really respectful so maybe i was lucky but I had a really great experience in general.
Terrible experience
Will right in a complaint. Was a very terrible one!
Easily one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in!
Room and bathroom was very clean to my surprise... expected less for hostal but it was good. The only thing i couldn't deal with was the noises from the guests , had to give up two payed nights. In over all good hostal
Cheap and cheerful but showers could be better
The hostel was easy to find, clean and check-in was simple and efficient. The staff I interacted with were all helpful and the free ear plugs were a nice touch. The reason for the ok review was that I tried both the top floor and 2nd floor showers and the top didn't work at all and the 2nd was jammed on hot and couldn't be changed. All I needed was a place to crash and clean myself and the hostel met 1 of 2 requirements.
Very nice stay, far from center
I had a very good experience with the hostel facilities and staff. The location is about 25 minutes walking from tge actual center of the center
