Amazing cottage, I stayed in Breeze by myself. Roomy, breeze through the windows was amazing, view is amazing. Short walk to beach, right down the hill, no beach chairs though. Owners were responsive when I had questions or needs. The driveway is steep and taxi's can not drive up, so just be mindful of that, you gotta lug everything up that so pack accordingly. I had a local that did my driving and tours which allowed me to fully relax. Beautiful island and property. Bed was comfortable! Will definately stay here again!
Beautiful cottage in Antigua
Great stay with beach views and 10 mins walking from Galley Bay beach; we were greeted at the airport by cottage staff who took us to the cottage (following her car) and even showed us the nearest supermarket. We had a great stay here and would recommend to anyone looking for a nice quiet cozy cottage not far from the centre but in its own own nature world
It’s a beautiful private hideaway from the busy capital.. nice and secluded and close to the beach..
Overall pretty good, small inconvenience
It’s unfortunate that the Galley Bay Resort that is located just beneath the Galley Bay Cottages is completely off limits and therefore dining is finding local eateries in the area that are not consistent with price, sanitation and food handling. You can access the beach just a walk down the path and it’s gated around the resort, but heaven forbid you touch any chairs! You will be scolded by security who monitors the beach line from the resort. The cabs are limited to 2-3 people who are often already booked to take people around the island so make sure you bring running shoes cause you’ll likely be walking your way around unless you wish to wait for a long while for someone to come to you. The overall cottage was nice, the cleaner came a day before I was leaving so I didn’t get fresh towels all week, and she stole my cigarettes. I had to pay over $100 upon arriving for the cleaning lady. I didn’t make a fuss about it, I just accepted it as it was. I will return to the island but will be making other arrangements that are closer to amenities rather than being placed at one end of the island away from everything. Overall experience from 1-10 was 4.
Quiet and very unique property, close to a beautiful beach.
There was a beautiful view, and very peaceful and quiet . I didn’t like the steep climb up to it every day, but it was worth the view when you got there.
This property is not for someone seeking a luxury resort where you get waited on all the time. If you want a beautiful little shabby-chic cottage all to yourself, inside a quiet jungle filled with flowers and nosy birds, within a five minute walk to a gorgeous beach, where you cook for yourself or bring home delicious patties and local produce to cook, and where owner Marco attends to your every need, if you have any -- look no further. My family and I had a fabulous time and, if you have read this far, you probably will too. Some advice: it is best to rent a car and pick up some groceries on the way in, although Marco stocks the place with essentials like towels, paper, coffee, milk, etc. Also, some of the hills around the cottages are steep, and not for those with bad knees or balance issues. Otherwise, you will fall in love with the place. Thank you, Marco!
Very short walk to Galley Bay Beach. The cottage was perfect and Marco is a great host.
We certainly cannot recommend this place. Not sure why the good/decent reviews. Cottage is not kept properly with few if anything working right -- toilet that moves, stovetop doesn't light without match, just wooden windows that doesn't open/close properly. Frog, biting insects (even with coils everywhere), animals noises SO VERY LOUD all night long that it's impossible to sleep with fan, air conditioner, and white noise machine. We had to wear ear plugs AND headset to sleep every night. Can't wait to leave this place. Never again. Sorry! Only good comment is that it's near the beach. We love Galley Bay beach.
The property is just gorgeous with amazing views. I stayed in the studio cabin. It was clean and nice. I had all kind of birds visit everyday on the porch. There is WIFI but no TV. Bring your laptop to watch TV. My suggestion to the owner is to get a couple of beach chairs for the cabin. The beach is right there but no chairs are provided
To start Marco was great, he met us at the airport. Then on the way to the property, he showed us the local market. Super helpful & friendly. Property is a little rustic but quaint. Did not want to stay at a resort. At first was a little taken back but warm up to the treehouse after the first night. Would suggest renting a car but you’ll need to be prepared for the locals roads. Only thing we had an issue with was the water pressure but it’s because the island uses cisterns to collect their water, so we learned to deal with it. All in all, we had a fantastic stay. Highly suggest going to Barbuda & checking out their beaches.
Excellent overall
The Calabash Cottage was perfect for our party of three. It provided privacy while maintaining a sense of community. The garden views were everything we had hoped they'd be. The island sounds were pleasant as was the open-air concept of the cottage. The walk to the beach was literally 3 mins. The properties are perched hillside, which is a bit steep. No biggie. The only drawback is the property refuse location at the base of the hill. Marco was a gracious host and Omar was extremely attentive to our needs. Omar gave us a private tour of the Island along with stops at historical sites. We were all grateful to have met him.
Loved the secluded spot , great views, great beaches
Spacious beach cottage, nestled amongst lush trees and foliage with wrap around deck within a stones throw and walk to Galley Bay Beach. While not a shiny new penny, it has everything you need for a great stay. Communication is excellent with host. Would definitely stay here again!
Beautiful view. Best place to see the local culture....food and drink
Galley Bay Cottages Tree House
The property was quite charming and semi-quirky. The view is beautiful! There is an evident termite problem in a few areas and the electricity went out at weird times in no apparent pattern for no apparent reason, but it didn't hamper our enjoyment of the cottage. The stove and oven had to be lit with the provided matches which was a surprise to us, but once lit, worked perfectly. I reached out to the property manager 2 times before our stay and he never replied to me. When my husband reached out to him, he replied. That was very disconcerting. Once we met him at the airport, he was very helpful. We had a rental car and we followed him to a grocery store and to the cottage. He stayed with us in the grocery store and helped us figure out the lay of the land. The 2 minute walk to the beach was easy and the beach is fabulous. I'd recommend the place if you're not looking for fancy. It's casual and quiet and perfect for 2.
Love how tucked away it is! Such tranquility within nature and so quite and peaceful. Marco is always so helpful and such a great manager, had to return for another visit and can't wait to go back 😀. Stayed in the Treehouse a couple years ago and this time in Calabash, would definitely love to go back and stay in the other cottages. A car is necessary if you like to explore and beach access is a walk away. Again, Marco is very helpful helping with info about getting around and places to visit and eat.
This place has an amazing view, quiet, quaint, and the responsiveness to any needs was superb. Definitely recommend this place if you want to be secluded and don’t mind a short walk to a nearby beautiful beach and also a pristine spot to watch the sunset and oversea much of the Island!
Nice views , near beach, quiet environment to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Fantastic views
Tranquil Little Piece of Paradise!
I really enjoyed my stay at this special mellow part of the island! Galley Bay beach is amazing and very secluded, safe & clean. Only around a 4 minute walk to this beach from the cottages. Marco was very good at communication leasing up to my arrival and even went out of his way to thank me for booking. Also, he arranged for his certified taxi driver & friend, Omar to come get me and paid for it! Very nice gesture. Also, on the way there Omar stopped for me at the main grocery store so i could shop for 4+ days of cooking. Very patient and very cool & nice guy. Marco also didnt hesitate at all when i forgot cream for my coffee. He dropped what he was doing and drove to the store for me immediately. Very generous. If you are looking for a very relaxing stay and like falling asleep to the amazing sounds as the night strikes up with secadas, crickets and frogs... then this is the place for you! Lots of cool wildlife all.around the property. From birds, geckos, cows & goats across the field... it is a very magical place! I already miss it, and have only been gone for 3 days
This is such special place. We stayed in Spice cottage and could not have been happier. Set in amongst the trees with a beautiful view of the ocean. We woke up to birdsong every morning and walked along gorgeous Galley Bay beach. The accommodation was extremely well stocked and Marco helped us with everything. It's very quiet in the evenings, so you have to be willing to explore all the great places in the area. We took the bus a lot, which was cheap and easy to navigate. The local village has a bar, a small shop and restaurant. But you've also got St John's nearby and Jolly Harbour. The other beaches in the area are walkable and also really wonderful to visit. Sublime!
Great private property with lovely view. Large cottage perfect for two.
Calabash
Great cottage for rest and relaxation! Distant sounds of waves with crickets singing out! 3 great beaches very close! Marco was a great host!
The cottage is adorable and located only a 4 minute walk to the beach. This is a perfect place if you want a nice, quiet vacation and have a rental car. There isn't much going on in the immediate area, except there is a small restaurant (only 2 tables) within walking distance. If you want more restaurant choices and you don't have a car, you will need to call a taxi (they're expensive). It is possible to take a bus, but they don't run very often in the smaller village. The cottage has free WiFi, which was good at first, but then it was sporadic the last 2 days we were there. We were unlucky with the weather and had rain for a few days, which made the walkway to our cottage slippery in about a 5 or 6 foot section. The rest of the walkway was fine; it was just the one sloped section that was slippery when it was wet. Overall, it is a lovely cottage and I would stay there again as long as I have a rental car.
Awesome view. Lots of steps and a very steep driveway, so would be difficult if you have any mobility challenges. The owner Marco was awesome!! The king bed is super comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped.
We loved the location, proximity to the beach, quiet and quaint atmosphere and great service from Marco.
Located in a very quiet and tranquil area with the beach within walking distance.
Marco was most helpful, picking us up at the airport, taking us to the large grocery to stock up, and giving us a quick tour of the surrounding areas. The cottage was great. Fans eliminated the need for AC. View and beach were beautiful. Would definitely recommend for folks that like laid back, ability to cook some meals, and not want night life. Walk to the beach was quick and easy.
We loved staying at the cottages! The place was super charming and Marco and Lucero were wonderful! We will stay here again for sure on our next trip back to Antigua!
No air con, and fan was broken. Other than that a dream spot
beautiful location, secluded and quite perfect for couples looking to get away from bustle of resorts Marco the host is awesome, pleasant and on top of anything you need and answers questions very quickly and concisely i would not recommend this location for persons with mobility issues since it is in a very steep locations and alot of steps, but worth the walk for the views and tranquility
The property was a cool little bungalow that had everything we needed......it was like a retreat from the real world......it is a few minutes from the nearest store but with a rental car that was not a problem..... Marco met us at the airport and drove us to the car rental agency and then to a grocery to get some supplies. Overall a great experience !
It was a very peaceful location. Super cute and quaint cottage up the hill from the beach. The owner Marco was fantastic. Such a great person. We loved having the shutters open and let the breeze flow in. Was a very good place to unwind.
Marco your host is wonderful! For a very relaxing visit to the real Antigua, try this beautiful. serene place!
The view is incredible as the property sits atop the hill overlooking Galley Bay and the Resort below. We stayed in the Villa which meant we had the pool to ourselves. Our favorite was sitting in the pool overlooking the ocean below and sipping cocktails. The unit was well-appointed. Marco, the host, was terrific. We had an issue on day 3 and he immediately came to the rescue. His hospitality made it that much more memorable. Thank you!
The Tree House Cottage was perfect! Everything you needed was available to us. The beach is a 4 min walk down the road...what else could I ask for! Marco was friendly he offered to pick me up from the airport. At the cottage he gave us a walk through on the feel of the cottage...lsland life! I would definitely stay there again.
I booked Marcos Galley Bay cottages based on great reviews I read on Expedia. It wasn’t our first time in the Caribbean Islands, but I may say it was the best. Marco is truly super host, and kind and generous person. He was accommodating us with whatever we needed. He picked us up in the airport and also drove us back at the day of our departure. The cottages offered us a perfect retreat. They are located on the hill facing beautiful Caribbean Sea, just above Galley bay. They are surrounded by tropical trees and vegetation. Every morning we were waking up to a beautiful view and fresh breeze of the sea, and singing of the birds. There is also great place for doing tai chi or yoga on the wooden platform above the cottages. The location is perfect – 4 minutes walk to Galley Bay gorgeous beach, which was never crowded; not far away from St Johns - if you don’t want to rent a car, there is a local bus from Five Island Village (10 minutes walk), which can take you to town. The place was clean and tidy, beds were comfortable. There is no ac in the cottage, but you don’t need one. Actually it would only spoil the energy of the whole place. I cannot wait to come back to the cottages and stay there longer than a week. Thank you Marco!
Authentic Caribbean experience
We stayed in Spice Cottage for 4 days after visiting BVI. Marco is a fabulous host who met us at the airport and helped with our car hire (Titi) and took us to the cottage. The cottage is set in a beautiful wooded area with lots of interesting wildlife. The nets over the beds were very welcome as there were definitley mossies. The cottage has all the facilities you could need, except for A/C. This only adds to the experience as falling asleep at night listening to the birds outside was lovely. The upstairs bedroom is not suitable for people with mobility issues. Galley Bay nearby is gorgeous although you can't use the facilities as it's an all-inclusive resort. You definitley want to hire a car and explore the island, we'd highly recommend Darkwood Beach and Nelson's Harbour. A fabulous place to stay and would definitely go back.
Private, True Island Experience, Personal Touch
Perfect is hardly the word to describe our experience at Galley Bay Cottages. If you are looking for a True Island feel with all the amenities as well as great assistance from the Property Manager. We spent a weekend at the property to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday as she is 100% city born and raised and never experienced the island life. Location - A bit off the beaten path so a car is recommended. We also wanted to explore the island so we opted for a rental from the airport. Marco the host was in constant contact from the time of booking up until before our flight. This personal touch is priceless to me. Marco couldn't make it himself however he made arrangements to have his colleague meet us at the airport to show us the way back to the cottages, WOW! He was nice enough to assist us with luggage and getting our rental car. Along the way showed us to the grocery store where we store where we were able to stock up on supplies (food, snacks, beer, liquor etc) all at our on leisure and pace. Our host showed us to the cottage (Tree House) gave us a tour and made sure we didn't require any further assistance. The cottage has beautiful views and everything you need along with an adequately equipped kitchen. As with any Caribbean country anywhere you go look out for bugs. We got mosquito repellent bands that you can wear 24/7 from a popular online shopping site. In closing our experience at the cottage was simply amazing. If you are looking for an authentic Island Getaway
Charming secluded hillside cottage
We stayed in Spice Cottage and it was charming! The cottage is lovely and closer to the beach than it appears, access really is just a minute or two down the road. It is very secluded and quiet so you really do need a car. It was equipped with coffee, tea and milk upon our arrival. The sound of the birds was amazing, it has a very rural feel and I was very glad to see that aspect of Antigua, all the while being just a couple of minutes from an exquisite beach. We had enough groceries for a couple of days and it was so very peaceful.
Fantastic Hidden Gem
We have just returned after staying at Galley bay cottages which was most enjoyable. Marco, the host was most welcoming and helpful. The location is a little remote but not a problem for us. The beaches nearby are wonderful with great swimming and snorkelling options. It certainly isn't a case of if we will be back, it is just when.
Beautiful cottage, beach view
Great experience! Marco the host was a pleasure, very helpful. Cottage itself was cute, well positioned near the beach. Beautiful views. Full kitchen with all the basics. Good wifi! Car rental is a must unless you do not want to leave the cottage. Awesome time!
Fantastic experience , gorgeous beach across the road, charming, though a bit ramshackle
Private cottage, great location, stunning views
The cottages are brilliantly located if you want to feel totally private yet 5 mins by car from 3 amazing beaches, and 10 mins from St John's (where there's a supermarket). Galley Bay beach is just a 5 min walk down the hill to the water's edge. Marco made everything about staying at Galley Bay cottages so welcoming and easy. He met me at the airport, and helped with rental car transfers. Furthermore he was able to offer a free upgrade, and totally flexible check-in/check-out times. I will definitely return!
Easy check-in as Marco met us at the airport and we followed him to the grocery to get ourselves situation for the week. Quiet location with a great view and easy beach access.
Our host was above and beyond. He met us 30 mins away so we could follow him to the cottages. He also stopped along the way to show us points of interest, local food, and access to the beach. The cottage was even better than expected. We had all basic ammenities plus more. Very well kept property. Beautiful view. Walking distance to the Galley Bay Beach. Short drive for a couple options of basic groceries and good open air restaurant food. (Also short drive to other beaches including Long Bay and Hawks Bill beaches. We also recommend going up the hill from his place to the top of the little mountain. Great view of St. Johns on one side, beautiful mountain view, and beautiful sunset over the water. We highly recommend giving this place a stay, our 3 nights there were great! Thanks Marco! - Rafe & Iveta
