An absolutely magical stay in one of the Deluxe double rooms. The area is so quiet and the beach is an absolute gorgeous uxury with plenty of loungers, beach bar, and so many pockets across the resort to relax. Made full use of the facilities and 24 hour gym, evening entertainments and boat trips nearby. The room was always so well cleaned both in the morning, and tidied for turn downs, and plenty of variety in the restaurant with options for both more traditional foods and continental. We had the all inclusive package and were fully satisfied at all times! There were power cuts or water cuts most days which was frustrating but regional and we experienced the same at another hotel on the island too. However what put this out of our minds was the quality of service and the staff. There was an undeniably positive attitude and we were always being attended to with great care. For my friends birthday they made a special cake and decorated our table and really went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and valued!

This is an isolated resort 90 minutes from town or airport. You will eat all meals here unless you want to drive for s hour. The resort and pools are nice however the beach is bad. Due to low tide you can’t swim until lste afternoon and there is a lot of kelp, sharp rock and sea urchins. Bring water shoes. You can’t snorkel due to choppiness of the water.

Terrible! Save your money and stay elsewhere!

We booked 4 nights from July 11 to July 15, 2024. Only good attribute of facility is the pool area and surrounding grounds. The staff is nice but they do NOT provide the service expected of a 5 star luxury hotel. We were extremely disappointed in spending a lot of money to stay at a 5 star and we received at best, a 3 star experience. We cannot provide a good review of your hotel for the following reasons: 1. Terrible service where it would take 30-45 min for a drink and yet for an all inclusive stay, they charged us for a couple of smoothies we ordered while waiting for our taxi to the airport because we ordered them 1hr after "official checkout". It's embarrassing and classless to behave this way in my opinion. Room had half used toiletries when we first checked in, missing furniture. Didn't respond to our concerns immediately. Food is the same every single meal - has limited taste and appeal. I place the blame 100% on management for the above noted issues as the staff has not been trained on what 5 star service means.

The hotel is clearly worn out and in need of renovation. The access to the sea from the suites has been closed for quite a while, which is one of the advertised benefits for staying in private villas. The jacuzzi was set at 42 degrees Celsius which made it impossible to use. Because the program was locked I wasn’t able to change it and I never got a staff member to change it. I do not recommend the manicure and pedicure as the quality of product is poorly and staff do not have the knowledge nor the adequate training to do it. Not worth the price. However the resort staff and butler are absolutely fantastic! They are always eager to help and satisfy everyone’s needs! The food is excellent too! Thanks to the staff members I had an excellent stay! Special thanks to Ramso my butler and Yunis the assistant manager of the resort for giving a VIP treat at all times!

My wife and I enjoyed our stay for our honeymoon at the Fruit & Spice in Zanzibar. The staff was friendly and helpful. We learned and practiced some basics of the Swahili language thanks to them. We also learned a lot about the culture of the island through our interaction with the staff. The location is great with a nice view of the ocean especially during sunset. The room was specious, comfortable and well maintained, and we really liked the menu for breakfast and dinner, with a good variety of options. We really liked the fact that there is a Maasai village nearby where guests have an opportunity to meet Maasai warriors and ask them about their culture daily. That was very unique experience and we enjoyed every second of our interaction with the Maasai. Although the resort is remote with very few shops around, we felt like we had most of what we needed within the hotel. The access to the beach to swim or for peaceful walks by the water is very convenient and we really enjoyed those. The hotel is beautifully decorated with stylish local themes, with well maintained landscaping and abundant and vibrant nature around. If you like photography, this is paradise. We also felt very safe. I highly recommend the resort. We had a great stay and will definitely stay there again.

The property is at the southern end of the island. A peaceful location with stunning scenery and sympathetic architecture. The hotel has fantastic amenities including several pools and private beaches, a pier, a turtle nursery and a well equipped gym. The food was great and the staff very friendly and helpful. Plenty of excursions were available from the hotel and good quality entertainment was provided most evenings. The only issue at the moment is the access road which is 5km of very bumpy dirt track, however the road is being rebuilt and should be completed in the next couple of months

Nice resort but the staff not useful enough

We booked the Honeymoon villa. The amount for 3 nights is considerable and we also advised the property we are making our wedding in the resort. The villa was comfortable and had all facilities we wanted, even more - a beach area, a jacuzzi, our own exit to the beach and 2 spacious rooms. However the staff was very difficult to communicate to. Before arriving to the property I had to make tons of phone calls to get a wedding package quote. Well, they couldn`t provide what we expected - we received no answer and had to organize the wedding by ways of a local wedding planner. Even though I found the communication between the wedding planner and the hotel difficult and they needed our assistance too. The only one who was always kind and caring was our butler Kefas. He was always there when we needed him and we received explicit service from him while the rest of the staff was just standing and watching. I assume that the property is experiencing staff decrease. Otherwise I cannot explain why they have so little people. Overall a very nice resort with beautiful surrounding but the staff can spoil your holiday especially if you decide to make your wedding there.

DO NOT STAY HERE. SAVE YOUR MONEY.

in such a short stay from the 27th-31st I never thought I could be so disappointed in a resort. I would give the “resort” zero stars. Coming from someone that travels the world pretty regularly and even stayed at multiple resorts while staying in Zanzibar, I can say that fruit and spice is a waste of money and probably one of the worst resorts in Zanzibar itself, it is nowhere near a 5 star resort. Aesthetically pleasing yes, but with staff were horrid, you have to chase down for service and never go the extra mile to ensure your stay is going well. Meal times aren’t consistent- you get told times as you arrive to later be changed by 30/45mins because they aren’t ready. If there is a way to get out of providing you service, the staff will find a way to not have to serve you. Forget about receiving what you ask for while at the reception desk as they will tell you they will bring it to you but never will. Not only do they have no phones in the rooms to be able to phone the reception desk for assistance, which if that isn’t already inconvenient enough and just shows how lazy the resort is, you have to walk a way to the desk and still not receive what it is you need. Food options were less than appetising- the Hilton hotel in nungwis food is 12x better and more options and their staff are amazing. Want to order an alcoholic beverage? Be ready to wait 30 min minimum if not longer for a margarita. the Hilton hotel by doubletree in nungwi puts this place to shame.

There where so many issues with the hotel. If you are visiting Zanzibar for the first time and want to see the place stay in stone town. You may pay a little more for a hotel but you will save in the long run.  We got a ride to the neighboring hotel The Residence it was great. If you want a quite vacation book there.  The bad - they have you. You are far away from everything and they can do whatever they want. You choices are zero.  1. The hotel is over 1 hr away from town. If you want to do scuba, see dolphins, snorkel, see prison island you have to drive into town 1hr. The hotel provides transport typically $180. They don’t like for you to book your own car. We did our car, driver for the whole day was $80. Crazy 2. The food is lack luster however if you want to eat somewhere else you have to book a car $$$. So you are a captured audience you better like the food.  3. On arrival you get two wooden squares for towels. Each time you get a pool towel you have to use these. Crazy guest at the hotel should be able to use as many towels as they want. Also many of the towels are stained even though they have been washed. I have stayed at many 5 star hotels and did not find their towels stained.  The good 1. Sunsets at the peer. Amazing view.  2. Some of they staff is very nice. Others where not but I am giving them a plus here.

We went here to relax after 7 days in Tanzania on Safari. It was pure luxury for us in the honeymoon suite. We couldn’t have asked for better. Service was fantastic including the butler. The only small issue ((which was not and issue for us as we wanted to relax) is it is in the middle of nowhere. So nothing nearby to explore. Stone town is an hour away. But we give it 10/10.

Had a lovely three night stay

Beautiful property and the place albeit isolated is extremely spectacular. The staff is the friendliest you can encounter (except for the Masai guards, not friendly at all). The food was really good (specially the jack fruit) except the orange juice. That’s is not iran juice at all is more coloured water. Also the wait for the live stations was too long despite the hotel being quite empty. The other area I would improve is the turn down service. It’s amazing that housekeeping goes to your room to prepare for the night and the portable water is not replenished! Little details like that go a long time considering that there’s so much competition. The spa was very good.

Not good during off season

Street cats in the eating areas, seen one eat off the buffet on our first day there, also lots of cats outside by the patio tables. when I asked one of the waiters to possibly get rid of the cats he told my fiance in swahili that if I was afraid of cats I should sit inside. Breakfast table set up was unprofessional always missing napkins, cups, or condiments. Tables where uneven to a point that you would spill your coffee or tea from the wobbles. Food selection was meagre and boring, a week long stay and had the same meals multiple times. Most ridiculous is the extra charge for cold water 4$. Room upkeep in the superior suite is abysmal, 7 night stay and our bed sheets where not changed. Cleaning staff would leave doors open during the cleaning letting bugs and mosquitos in, you hear bugs crawling around at night and wake up with spiders on the floor killed about 3 the sizes of Quarters. The shower/bathroom has a big clear window and they have their staff constantly walk through that area so no privacy. Didn't get bathrobes or clean towels everyday. On check out time it was raining heavily and we asked to maybe stay an extra hour to not walk in the rain, were told that would be an extra 10usd$. Also tried to charge us for a Massage we never got and over double for the minibar. Guests Beware. All in all this Hotel is not worth the price during Off season, this is a 2 star Hotel at best. Needs better management and upkeep. The good: Some of the staff was friendly

it's a beautiful location, the sea and gardens are stunning. however it's Zanzibar's answer to Fawlty Towers. the rooms are 3 star at best, the beds are the most uncomfortable and hard I've ever experienced. the service while friendly is useless, no one knows anything and if orders arrive they are nearly always wrong. the listing on here is inaccurate. there is is only two dinning option which is a buffet and bar menu. there is no beach, only a jetty.

Would recommend the dolphin trips, you may even see a passing whale if lucky. Also a trip to White Island, which only appears at low water, is a must. There is NO BEACH on the property. FRAUD alert!

Run away from this place, unless you want to sleep alot in a hot room or sit by a dirty pool. My daughter was heart broken and cried when we realized there was no beach. We spent considerable extra money to get to other hotels with a beach and stayed away from the hotel as much as possible. The staff was slow to response to orders, often my daughter fell asleep before dinner arrived (47 minutes for plain spaghetti noodles!) Several times we finished dinner before our drinks were even served. There were kayaks, but half of them were damaged and could not be used. The pool was beautiful, but was not cleaned properly and was often full of bugs. The power went our for hours at a time and the generator did not kick in. The executive bungalow, which was very expensive, was not air conditioned enough. I spent night after night sleeping with cold drinks from my refridgerator in efforts to keep cool. After several compaints, they were never able to fix the issue.

The best hotel in Zanzibar

I travelled around Zanzibar and stayed at 5 different hotels- this one was by far the best of all. The food is absolutely delicious. They make the best fresh fruit juices: pineapple juice, melon juice, passion fruit juice and sugar cane juice- soooooo delicious!! I loved how calm the hotel was, the quiet relaxing massage music which was all over the place instead of beach party music- was absolutely great to just relax. The sun loungers and the beds by the beach are so comfortable, actually the different beach areas they set up really give you privacy and you feel you're alone on the beach. I love the layout, it's stretched along the coast and the garden looks like an oasis. I saw yellow birds that I've never seen before, so beautiful. When the tide is low you can walk out and see a lot of very interesting sea animals. Unfortunately the beach is rocky, that's the only negative point I have that the beach was not so great. The best beach was on the east coast, maybe you can set up another fruit&spice hotel on the east coast ;) ? But they have a big pool in which you can swim. When you walk through the low tide there are also beach boys coming trying to sell tours and it's very hard to get rid of them, they keep talking and talking and talking when you actually just want to watch this anemone you just found.... As long as you're by the hotel they don't come but as soon as you walk out with low tide, you can forget silence.

I couldn't imagine the hotel would provide this kind of hospitality. We booked a honeymoon villa for 4 nights, In which we took an advantages of the hotel activities and villa facilities. Every night the hotel prepare the dinning area with a theme and activity, so that you can enjoy every moment in the hotel. At the day time, you can take the kayak for free and the also you can go bysiclling. The staff are well trained to provide the client Ma with ultimate satisfaction and high quality services. The food is good but the problem with the menu is very short. I would recommend this resort for honeymooners only, other than honeymooners i would resonate to visit Nungwi.

Nice vegetation, wonderful images delight your eyes .No mosquito for stress. Beautiful Butterfly ; sometime a monkey visited us. Room cleaned regularly . For us no issue about securing the goods in the room. However each night the hotel area is checked and guarded by his own guard-team. The swimming Pools are OK. Nice free facilities as : Gym Room , Bicycles or Swimming or Canoeing equipment should not be missed . Beautiful quiet hotel, nice rooms, very good food even if relatively limited choice due to hotel size but poor management that influences staff that is nice but not at the expected level for this kind of hotel

Beautiful experience overall!!!!!

There are not enough positive things I can say about Fruit & Spice. Everything was amazing!! The grounds are immaculate. The villa was stellar. The food was fresh and delicious. Most of all, the staff was 6-star!! They made me feel like a princess. The best vacation ever!!!

Fantastic Hotel

The hotel was everything that their website states. The lobby was big and check-in was a snap. I was greeted with a smile. The front help was very helpful throughout my stay with suggestions. The rooms were spacious and very clean. The hotel grounds were breathtaking to say the least. The pools were just the right temperature with a mini restaurant near by. I had an African oil massage at the spa which was nice and not expensive. There were activities that one could enjoy with the onsite personal trainers. The food was delicious with several options. I only did not like paying for my soda and waters during dinner. That should be included I believe with the price. The excursions through the hotel were priced moderately and were exactly what a traveler would want. When asked if we could go to the Rock restaurant which was not listed, the front desk obliged and made us a reservation for lunch the next day. Now that's special attention. Also, I noticed a staff member with a nice traditional dress on and she suggested that the in house tailor could make us one if he took our measurements. We did and they were ready for us to pick up after our lunch date outside the resort. The security was through, but more needed on the way to the beach or on the private beach. Finally, the resort is the best one even though this has been my only one in Zanzibar. I will definitely come back.

Brilliant family vacation hotel

We loved everything about our stay from the beautiful landscaped gardens and the beautiful sea. Our room was nicely decorated and had full amenities. The food at breakfast and dinner always offered a nice selection. We loved all the activities the hotel offers on the premises and the tours available. All in all we loved every second of our stay and truly loved the personalised attention we got from all the staff.

Peace and Tranquility

This was a very special place! The staff, service, food, landscape, amenities, room details were all impeccable! If you spent a week here -- you wouldn't remember what a problem looks like. Unfortunately, I had to cut my 3-night trip to 1-night to rush back to the States for a funeral. It seemed like everyone at the resort knew about it and was very sympathetic and helped me get the most out of my stay. I would definitely journey back here again for a much longer stay. Btw,make sure you work in a spa treatment.

Beautiful seaside resort

I travel a lot, and this was my third trip to Zanzibar in the past 6 months. So my review is more as a seasoned traveler. The resort is only a few months old, and the weekend I was there (actually 5 days) was the busiest they had been (not quite full but close). It was clear the staff struggled a bit initially with the extra people, but by the next day they had figured it out. Service was still very good, but you could see they were having difficulty. The rooms and facilities are beautiful. Everything is clean and well laid out. the landscaping is beautiful. The food was very good, lots of options, and different choices each night. We only had the lunch once and it was fine, not great but good. I would definitely recommend it, particularly if you want a quiet secluded type of vacation. There is not a lot nearby and it is fairly far from the airport.

Great Escape!

My stay at Fruit and Spice was a great escape from my normal busy city and work life. The views are amazing! The beach although not large is full of interesting sea life and local villagers fishing and gathering. The ocean breeze was perfect. It was said that it is the low season, "rainy season", it only rained a couple of times very early in the morning, just enough to make the air smell fresh.

Great beachfront hotel in a dolphin hotspot!

We had five very good nights at Fruit and Spice and would happily recommend the hotel. Great oceanfront spot in an area famous for its dolphins, lovely pool, helpful staff and good quality spa. As a new hotel, Fruit and Spice still seems to be working through a few details, but we found the service responsive without being invasive and the facilities fantastic. Our package (with brekky and dinner inclusive) felt like good value, though the buffet is somewhat limited and became a bit repetitive after three days. It would be great to see the hotel offer a few more tours and excursions - a short walking tour of the local village perhaps, or shuttle service into Stone Town (about 90 minutes away), but the pool kept us happy enough anyhow (great for kids though mzungu should be prepared for little to no shade against a very hot sun). Overall, a very positive experience, good value and worth recommending.

WE MADE ALL PAYMENTS THROUGH EXPEDIA AND PAID EXTRA 100$ IN ADVANCE FOR 17 BOTTLES OF WATER AND A CAKE. HOWEVER, ON THE DAY OF DEPARTURE WE RECEIVED A BILL OF 300+ DOLLARS WHICH WAS A SURPRISE TO US. WE WENT ON A TOUR TRIP TO THE CITY WHICH COSTED US 170 DOLLARS (70 DOLLARS FOR 2 ADULTS AND FREE FOR THE CHILD) AND WE WERE TOLD IT INCLUDES LUNCH BUT WHEN ARRIVING THERE THEY ASKED US TO PAY EXTRA (5 EACH) SO THERE WAS MORE THAN 150 DOLLARS EXTRA THEY WANTED US TO PAY FOR NO REASON. IT'S A BIG RIP OFF

Lugar maravilhoso para descansar

É lugar para descansar em Zanzibar, Tem uma paz maravilhosa o lugar. A alimentação no restaurante principal é execelente no jantar.
