There's a reason why this hotel was cheap, cockroaches, spiders in shower and shower didn't even work, mini fridge didn't even work, had to cancel. No one at front desk after 8 pm to help with issues. At least next day staff canceled next reservation and refunded money.

This place is so bad. I stayed at the bungalow and it was so nasty I wanted to run away but unfortunately we were at ocean world and went to check in late it was 9pm and I had my kids , there was no place I could have found another room that late, the towels had marks on them, thankfully we had our own towels. The windows lock are broken I couldn't sleep because of safety, I was up all night making sure my kids were safe since the windows don't lock. The place is so run down and smells like dogs right when you walk in. I would definitely never stay there again.

Travelers, beware. You have to cross a treacherous road to reach the beach and restaurants from this hotel. I was careful, but still got run down by a crazy motorcycle and was taken unconscious to a hospital where I had to pay $2000 to get out the next day. The same thing happened to another guest two weeks before. I prepaid for 10 days. The accident happened the first day, but the hotel refused to refund any of the rest of the stay. Moral: if you stay here, book by the night. Otherwise, it's not a bad hotel.

Cockroach Motel

This place is beyond grim. There are far too many dogs running around so the lobby smells like a wet dog, which is a terrible first greeting. The check in was fine albeit a slight confusion in getting to our rooms (our fault with our bad Spanish) but the rooms are horrifying. There are ants and cockroaches on the floor, the towels & sheets are grubby and stained and there was hair in the bathroom drain. We didn't even have a towel to stand on after we showered so our room became a wet mess. I'm glad we only had to stay here for one night before we checked in to an Airbnb. The only redeeming feature is the location as you are really close to the beach and some great restaurants. We also stayed in the hotel room rather than the bungalow, we heard those were in a slightly better condition. You get what you pay for, so if you do decide to save a few pennies and stay here make sure you bring your own sheets, towels, and cleaning supplies!

The front desk tried to charge us extra for AC. Didn’t seem to know any details about the reservation. The sheets were extremely old. So much so that we asked for them to be changed because we thought they were dirty. Ends up they were just stained & thread bare from bleaching. Everything was very clean, there were cockroaches in one of the rooms, but it is normal for this type of climate & hotel. If you are ok with old sheets & beds, have a good grasp on Spanish & aren’t looking for western amenities this is a good bet for your money.

Restaurant on the premises with early morning coffee or breakfast and a bar. All the staff were very friendly and helpful The owner takes in stray dogs who greet you and are well behaved. Very dirty, pool not working, had all kinds of vacant rooms, put us at the very back end of the place, at the top floor, in a very small dirty room where the curtains were falling off the windows, the tap on the sink was just swinging freely. AND if you wanted air conditioning.....it cost and additional $7.00. The temperature was 93 degrees....would this not be something that should have been included ???

Cockroach Infested Very Dirty Noisy Hotel

Worst hotel I've ever stayed at! I would recommend anyone stay elsewhere. The rooms are very outdated. The stove in either room didn't work. The shower never got warm the entire week I stayed here, and only trickles out. The television volume didn't work so I wasn't able to watch the NBA finals. The bed was rock hard and was unable to get a full night sleep any night. Sheets were dirty in all 3 rooms they placed me in. The bedding had nasty stains and an odor to them in every room. The property is very unkept, trash all over courtyard by pool. The pool looks as though it hasn't been clean in ages. Toilet flooded my room had to switch in middle of the night. The property is overran by dozens of handicapped dogs in self made wheelchairs and most have one eye and legs bent. Its freaky like a scene from Pet Cemetary. The dogs literally bark and whine all nigh and the staff just allow it. There is an aweful odor of wet dog all through the hotel even seeping into your room due to the overwhelming amount of dogs. There is dog poop on the lobby floor and stairways. The owner/caretaker was very uninviting and seemed to have a perpetual attitude for no reason. The overnight staff partied almost every night with loud music and arguing in Spanish as well as partying in the pool all night. Very unprofessional. I would never stay here again and I would highly suggest hotels.com remove them from their list of acceptable hotels. This place is less than a 1 star. It needs to be condemned.

Excellent Value and Great Location!

We were pleasantly surprised and feel we received a good value for the money. Our bungalow was clean and nicely situated among pretty gardens. ThE bed was comfortable, there were nice block out sun curtains. Hot water, air conditioner that worked well and excellent internet. For the low price I think what we received was very good. It is a casual 3-star hotel with some nice rescue dogs in the lobby, if you want 5 star it's not your place but if you want a good value in the heart of Cabarete then this is Great!

AVOID

Room 1 - smelt of mildew - rusted out fridge. Front reception were fine, changed to another room. Room 2 - same mildew aroma, busted open safe, Terrible bed, poor mattress, old lumpy pillows, cover same damp problem. Nothing else available to change to so opened everything, turned up fan, bought room/air freshener - still bad but a bit less so. Shower fine, hot water good, failed to drain while showering but have had the same at better places. Clean towels, fan worked and good wifi. I booked at very short notice so little choice was available, it's inexpensive but really poor value even at the price - have stayed in much better for lower. Basic = few facilities, this place is run-down/unmaintained.

Nice friendly hotel across from the beach

I was pleasantly surprised with Kaoba hotel. I have to admit I didn’t have too many expectations, except that I wanted to stay somewhere safe, very close to the beach, and within walking distance to cafes, restaurants, and super markets....this hotel fit my criteria perfectly! My favorite part was the warm welcome from all of the owners dogs, who all roam the property freely and are all very well behaved. We stayed in one of the bungalows further away from the pool which provided for a more quiet stay. The pool was fun and great for the days we didn’t feel like getting hassled by peddlers on the beach. The room, as many rooms in the DR had a faint mildew smell, but nothing a little fresh air and AC couldn’t get rid of after a few hours. The room was cleaned daily which was nice and the staff was very friendly. If you are looking for 5 star picture perfect accommodations, this is NOT the place for you. If you are looking for a beautifully maintained property that is safe, clean, and laid back in the heart of Cabarate then you will be very pleased with this hotel.

There were dogs everywhere in the lobby from the management and some of us are allergic to dogs. It was so dirty all over the place, the odor was unsatisfied, I paid booking fee and also extra charge of $87.00 without any purpose. I been traveling all over the place and this was the worst experience me and my family had ever. To sleep and save money only.

Do NOT go swimming in the pool!! It is full of algae, green and not clear. Use the beach. Wifi is good if you are near the wifi extender at the lobby steps. NO pressure for the hot water in one of the rooms. Refridgerators are disconnected upon arrival, one room did not have a fridge and the a.c. remote control did not work. Took half an hour to get them after check-in. Only parking for 3-4 cars. Entrance looks like a mini mall, lots of glass panes with stores in the front. A few harmless dogs sleeping around. People that work there are very friendly and helpful. Exit the lobby, cross the street, walk towards your right and enter through the Hotel Villa Taina lobby or a block later down an alley full of stores and restaurants and you are at the beach, in the center of the action. There is an ATM and a bakery 2 minutes to the west of the Hotel Kaoba and a 10 minute walk to a supermarket to the east (800 meters away).

Best budget option in cabarete

The location is great, right in town, short walk to all the restaurants/nightclubs. Probably the best budget option this close to town. Did have a few mosquitos in the room as its near a marshy area and didn't care for the fact they charge $7 a night extra for air-conditioning but then I didn't find I needed it in January. Cracks in the wall, leaking plumbing, shower that sprayed over the wall of the shower onto the wall of the bathroom ran across the floor into the bedroom, 4 dogs in the lobby that woke us up barking at midnight, 3:00 am, 3:30 am, and 4:15 am. leaking bathroom

I had 10 day vacation In my room: there was a leak from the upstairs bathroom through the ceiling I made daily complains at reception. They send a handyman who used a gallon jug of water cut open on top and placed it above the suspended ceiling to collect the dripping. Helas, he did not find the right spot and the dripping continued. The management send three times someone for no good. I complained daily. The hotel was not at all busy and there were plenty of rooms unoccupied. Four days before my departure I was taken to see another room way back on the last floor of another building far from main entry. The room smell mold and I did not like it. Three nights before my departure I was offered another room in the same building on a higher floor. I tried to talk with the owner and he constantly voided a meeting with me . When he finally took a minute to stop from a ( personal ) call he was doing he told me that the"innovative" way to fixing the leak with the plastic jug was done because of me as I did not want to move to another room (??)!!! No excuses from him, no something to compensate for my trouble, nothing!! NO COMMENTS!!! I was super hurt and felt very disregarded as a customer of the hotel by his attitude. The reception desk people and other staff were all nice, but the owner was to my opinion very rude toward me. TOO BAD !! IT was a nicely located hotel I would not ever go back even if they offer me free ten days!!!

Hotel Kaoba,value with sacrifice

Stayed at Hotel Kaoba, for the 2nd time, and nothing has changed, except for more barking dogs. The hotel is conveniently located,on the edge of the main street,in Cabarete, but the owner doesn't seem to want to invest much,in maintenance, and landscaping. The 1st-floor rooms are pretty poor, most don't have a/c(which is really nice to have here),and the bathroom was full of mosquitoes. However,if you move up to the 2nd,or 3rd floor, the rooms seem to upgrade as well. They're not luxuriously appointed,by any means, but they suffice for someone on a budget, and like me,one who doesn't plan on spending too much time there. The one thing about some of the rear rooms, was the incessant barking of the many dogs,in,and around the hotel grounds. They have bungalows near the front of the property, which might be a good option, and maybe a little quieter.

Basic hotel for budget minded travelers

First off this is not a hotel for those who seek 4 or 5 star accommodations, this is not even a 3, but that does not mean this is a bad place to stay. When we arrived and walked around the facilities I was disappointed, but I remembers why I was there, to enjoy the beaches and the local life that Cabrete has to offer. This hotel is well situated on the main strip, close to all the best restaurants, markets, bars, cafes, and shops. It has a nice pool and a nice bar in front that serves a good breakfast at a good price. The staff is friendly, especially the bar staff which my girlfriend and I enjoyed talking to and they were very helpful about where to go for certain items we wanted to purchase. The rooms are very basic and hope you're not there to watch TV, because its poor. Otherwise the facilities have a unique look that let's you know you are on a tropical island, very natural looking and in the back of the hotel are the wetlands which are a peaceful sight. The signs to the hotel are also very poor and we had to actually go inside and ask if it was the place because there is not sign with the hotel name. We enjoyed the stay there though because after all we got what we the basic needs met, a place to sleep and shower so we could go out and have a great time in the DR, because that's what really matters.

Smack-dab in the center of tourist trap central

Hotel Kaoba is located right on Cabarete's main drag, Calle Principal -- good and bad in equal turn. On the one hand everything a tourist needs is literally right out the door: cheap eateries, transportation, souvenir shops, banks, a beach, tourism/activity booking agencies. That being said, be prepared to be pulled every which way by all manners of people touting their shops, products, or services. Now, as for the hotel itself: you get what you pay for and I do mean that in the best possible way. The German-Jewish owner is bilingual, respectful, and helpful. Staff is courteous. Hotel itself is akin to an apartment community enclosing a good-size public pool. A bar attaches to the lobby, serving good coffee, beers, bottled drinks at fair prices. My room was clean upon arrival and cleaned everyday (tip your housekeeper, please), but in want of some basic maintenance: small consistent leak from overhead light in toilet, inconsistent hot water, ants coming through small crack in sink fixture, and a persistent mosquito presence. Very powerful ceiling fan and A/C unit (latter comes at $5/day surcharge). Kitchenette. Mini-fridge. Large cabinet. Comfortable bed. Ample space. WI-FI everywhere. The owner has a handful of well trained, friendly dogs that roam the property when they're not following him around, and you should expect to hear them conversing loudly at various times throughout waking hours but for the most part are quiet throughout the night.

We enjoyed our stay!

Check-in was easy and staff were helpful and friendly. It was worth the money. I would stay at this hotel again. The pool was clean, rooms were decent with a stove and refrigerator... it is located near the beach and restaurants... It had wireless and a television. Bathroom is large and staff was willing to do whatever necessary to make things suitable.

Great service for the price!

This was my first visit to the Dominican Republic. I chose Kaoba due to economic reasons. I do not speak English and had some transportation problems (not the hotels responsibility) The hotel staff was extremely helpful in this situation. My room was cleaned daily and all my needs were met. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout, very hard working. I will be happy to stay again next year.

Ok

I stayed for one night and was just looking for a bed to sleep in at a reasonable price. For the price I paid it was ok but I would not like it for an extended stay.

Good Hotel To Stay

For the money, the Hotel is worth staying at if you do not need a lot of luxury. Rooms and Hotel were clean and enough hot water, the staff helpful. Good place to relax and easy walking distance to the beach and all places to eat, bank atm's. Just make sure you bring your pool and beach towels. You felt comfortable walking around the local streets day and night...

Great Hotel

I think it is a great hotel for this price. If you are planning to stay most of the time outside the hotel, I don't see a reason to complain. It was great to have a small kitchen to prepare meals!! Also, even though the staff told me that the wifi would not work in my room, I had no problems make it working (except that the staff gave me the wrong password all three times I asked for it - but after trying a few modifications it worked). One funny thing seems to be that room keys work at several, or maybe all, different rooms. So, a night at about 2.00 AM a stranger unlocked the door and walked in to my room, but left immediately when he saw he was in the wrong place.

Ok place at low price!

We just took this hotel for one night, the day before flying out. Overal, considering the very low price, we were very pleased. Not a place to stay for 2 weeks unless seaking low budget stay. Some rooms are equiped with full kitchen. Great for young travellers and surfers, or short stay.

Not a nice place to stay

This Hotel is more like a European Hostel. It has very little to offer. The staff including the owner act like they are the ones on vacation.

Close to all, needs maintenance

Was different, some dogs welcome us at the lobby, the AC was clogged with dust, we requested to be cleaned, the TV control did'nt work. Room needed paint. Restaurant service was poor. Pool water appears cloudy
