Absolutely a Favorite!

The service was exquisite! Everyone was personable and attentive. The room was not only clean but well appointed with quality items and complimentary items to enjoy our stay!

Art Deco old school LA glamour

Beautiful art deco style hotel with glorious views of downtown Los Angeles. The room service is from the on site restaurant and the food is fantastic. Definitely recommend!

The hotel charges $50 per day for "destination fee". While this is a bit higher than most, it is applied as credit to restUrant and bar bur restaurant menu is severely limited as well as overpriced.

My favorite DTLA hotel

Excellent stay! Staff is professional and inviting. Feels like an apartment and not a hotel. Beautiful building; attention to details — from the walkways to the bathroom.

I was very much looking forward to staying here due to the reviews and glowing press about this property. The first disappointment was that I booked the junior suite - their most expensive room type - and was placed on the second floor. I asked for a higher floor and was told a higher floor would not be available for 2 hours after checkin time. When we visited the rooftop bar, we were told there would be no cocktail service unless each patron ordered food (even if a hotel guest). We were upsold by the waitress and the service took forever, not befitting of a hotel that deems itself as so high quality. I am a regular 5 star hotel traveler and would give this maybe a 3.5 at best. I unfortunately will not be returning to this hotel on my next trip to LA, there are so many similarly priced hotels with better service, rooms and location in the area. I’m very sad to leave this review as it was booked for my birthday and another very special occasion.

Best hotel in LA

I’ve stayed all over LA and this is the absolute best hotel. Downtown is not my ideal location, but the hotel is so nice I can’t resist it! Clean, gorgeous, great products, the absolute best gym ever.

What a great hotel. The staff is so nice, friendly and really helpful. The hotel is really nice, room and bedding are super comfy. The rooftop terrace has a pool and some nice options.

This hotel was a breath of fresh air me while on a business trip. From the moment I stepped in, the entire staff was courteous and welcoming. The food at their rooftop bar and downstairs restaurant was amazing! The room was so comfortable the bed was relaxing, and they even had Parachute robes for us to wear. Overall I felt really taken care of during what was a bit stressful of a work trip. I will definitely be staying there again when I’m in town.

Nice hotel with great amenities. Area is just not the best with homeless.

We had booked a King room but when they upgraded our reservation, we ended up with a Queen bed and a relatively small room.

It’s a beautiful hotel. From ground floor to the rooftop. Restaurants served very good food. Bar on the top was great.

Exceptional

The room service was exceptional. The toffee pudding is to die for. I loved the soap in the room as well. Great front desk staff and service. The valet team was also so accomodating.

Overall the hotel is great. The staffs were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and new. But the bed, was one of the most comfortable beds I've sleep in. Downside is in one of the more shady neighborhood and even though I was almost at the top floor it was still quite noisy during the middle of the night, the walls are also not very sound proof. Both the restaurants in this hotel have amazing food.

Excellent bartender Daisy is an amazing mixologist. We had dinner at Cara Cara and everyone was very attentive. We will be returning.

Amazing Stay!

Every, single employee at The Proper gave the best customer service that I have ever received! Each one went out of their way to make sure we were happy, comfortable, and in need of nothing.

Our view was a brick wall, very noisy Over priced for what we got.

From arrival, we were treated with the utmost hospitality. The front desm made us feel welcome and explained their onsite eateries and amenities. The rooms were immaculate and stocked with quality bathroom necessities. Do not pass up looking at their in-room dining menu; I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty our room service was. I've yet to check out, but this is easily one of my better stays in LA.

The hotel was fantastic but the view is of a brick wall and the tents. walking at night is not recommended. Otherwise good location to catch a taxi.

Excellent Stay

The bed is super comfortable, I had some of the best sleep in a long time. Well designed room. Very quiet ventilation that you question if it’s working. Great on site restaurants. Highly recommend and will definitely book again.

Many electrical appliances didn’t work in the room and Vallet charges $55 even though it says available for guests. Super Noisy on Sunday night. Weird Latino type of music has been playing really loud outside of the hotel. The stuffs were helpful and respectful which is the only things that positive about hotel except the view.

This is an excellent option if you have to stay in DTLA. A safe oasis with very high quality food. Very comfortable bed and room. Unfortunately it can get very pricey quite quickly. I would return but do more research into alternative dining venues.

We had the most wonderful stay at this property. Made a last-minute booking and so glad we did. Beautiful boutique room, incredible rooftop restaurant and bar, mind-blowing and original cocktails and food, and service that sets a new standard. B’teal at Cara Cara was gracious and welcoming and Frankie made the best recommendations for food/drink. I have not been this excited about a cocktail in ages. The flavors of the food were so good. Can’t wait to go back!

Lovely boutique hotel. Every member of staff from valet to front desk to housekeeping and wait staff were motivated and competent and seemed happy in their work. Special shoutout to the kitchens which were excellent in both on-site restaurants, and delivered the best room service burger I've ever had.

This hotel exceeded my expectations. I was a little concerned about staying in DTLA but The Proper is located in a safe neighborhood with plenty of dining and shopping options. The hotel staff are incredibly professional and friendly. Rooms are clean, modern and chic. Make sure to bring a swimsuit and check out the rooftop bar area. Highly recommend this hotel.

This property and the team that takes care of you from the minute you arrive until the minute you leave is fantastic. The restaurants and rooftop views are incredible and the overall design is cozy and artistic. Love this property and high recommend. 10 out of 10 for sure!

This is a difficult review because the circumstances were out of the normal. There was a strike going on downstairs when we arrived and they were making very loud noise with drums and horns. The evening wasn't bad but the morning was horrible. We were woken up by all the loud noise going on downstairs. I understand it's not the hotel's fault but I think a discount or some other form of apology would have made us feel more appreciated. The place was very clean, in a good location and the rooftop is nice. The rooftop pictures might need a little more clarity as I thought the pool was another one I've seen on their page which is partially covered. In general we would have had a nice stay if not for the loud noise making it imposible to sleep.

Really had a lovely experience. Though no one can change the realities of downtown LA and thats why i still give 5 stars for the area. The downtown proper really knows how to give you the experience you want LA to be everywhere . Hats off… hope the staff sees this and knows they play a part in dreams coming true. Staff at the proper, my wife and I wish all you ease , happiness, success and love. TY!!

Staff was super nice super excellent but I just felt like it was really nice for an older hotel but the room in the bed were really small so supposed to be a deluxe king it look more like a queen

This hotel was absolutely wonderful. Great for a staycation. The staff was incredible, from the valet to the waiters and security. Issac the receptionist was soo warm and welcoming. Everyone was so helpful and welcoming. The hotel itself is beautiful and the restaurants have wonderful decor. The rooms are just the right size and are wonderfully decorated. The only thing I did not fully enjoy was the food, but maybe that’s my limited pallet haha. My wife enjoyed everything! Also it was our anniversary and we were pleasantly surprised when we came back from dinner to find a desert plate and letter in our room. This was a great touch and the cherry on top of a great stay. Also the restaurants are on the pricey end but the views from the rooftop restaurant and bar are worth it alone. We will definitely be coming back.

The staff was welcoming and efficient. The room was clean, quiet, and tastefully decorated with incredible views of downtown especially after dark. For unwinding after a busy day, the rooftop with pool and bar worked well.

From the moment we arrived, the staff was amazing. Literally everyone was so friendly and engaging. The room was tastefully decorated and we loved the big open shower. The restaurant on the roof was insane. Excellent food and dining experience. It was a "staycation" for us and we'll be back again to enjoy Proper and DTLA!

Staff was outstanding, including (but not limited to) Kendra (housekeeping), Amber (front desk), security, many doormen (and women) and valets. All were very friendly and helpful. Bathroom is spacious with excellent shower. Convenient location in downtown LA. Gym needs an elliptical; I had to go to the John Reed gym two blocks away to use an elliptical machine. Bed was comfortable, but the mattress was a little too soft for me. Room was a little too dark.

Great stay while in downtown LA

The hotel is super trendy and cute, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the bathroom is what dreams are made of! My only "complaint" is that the room is a tad small so if you like a lot of space to spread out, I'd recommend upgrading to a larger room.
