Very nice, simple and clean and comfortable with very friendly staff. Would definitely stay again next time I’m in town.

We were welcomed by a very gracious and helpful host. He arranged a taxi for us and gave us directions for restaurants. Our room was comfortable and it was nice to have a hot breakfast in the morning before traveling on.

We had a wonderful stay at Douglas House in the main floor Mateo Suite from Nov 16 to 18/24. The location was a 10 min walk from the Canada Line Broadway Stn. The room was comfortable and decent size plus bed was comfy. The bathroom amenities were good quality too. For us the only ‘downside’ was that the other furnishings in the room needed a refresh. The chairs were stained and looked worn out as did a small coffee table. Also a new shower head would do a world of good. We would stay again.

DGH is perfect if a hotel room isn’t what you require and they have free parking.

Wasn't sure what to expect here exactly but it definitely exceeded whatever expectations I had. Nice spacious suite (the charlotte room) in a great location. Perfect place to stay for a few days and very reasonably priced

We stay here when the property is available on our trips to Vancouver. Close to everything we want and a safe, quiet location. Love the staff!

Comfortable, quiet, clean suite perfect for my needs, just a short walk to Vancouver General Hospital. Breakfast is good, staff super friendly and helpful. Highly recommend and will stay again!

I stayed for 4 nights, was attending a workshop at VGH. Very clean, best housekeeping I’ve experienced in awhile. Also, great hot breakfast. Super friendly staff.

Great staff

Wrong description about room type

I choose this motel which was introdued room type as 2 bed rooms and private bath. But that is not true. Strictly saying, room type is 1 bed room and open living room bed and open bath(locking system inoperativ). Because of not guaranty for privacy, It was terrinle situation during stay there. Unfortunately, phothos can not be uploaded(I have relative picturs)

Like individual entrances. Loved breakfast set up. Had what we needed to stay. Affordable.

A nice quiet place to stay with an old fashioned character. Our room had no opening windows except a small screened one in the adjoining bathroom, and a very weak AC.

Quaint setting for the weary traveler

The Douglas House is a lovely home that has been split into small rooms to include a bed, fridge, and bathroom. It was very small for the price. There was no air conditioning but there was a large noisy fan. The bed was fine. The bathroom, while small was modern and clean. The one downside for me was all of the stairs to get checked in and go to breakfast. There were even a few stairs to get down to my room. The outside lock did not work. On the upside, it was really lovely to sit outside in the backyard and even in the front while waiting for my Uber. It was very peaceful and gracious. The breakfast was delicious. It is definitely not for someone with walking or stair-climbing disabilities. It appears that they are continuing to renovate to include upstairs apartments. If you aren't too picky and have no physical disabilities, it will provide a good night's stay.

Comfortable B&B close to city centre!

This attractive property was handy to easy public transit and I found it to be very clean, pleasant, and quite comfortable. I had a kind of long, narrow suite with a full kitchenette which I would have made good use of on a longer stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, and spoke good English. The breakfast was not large but very good and besides the made to order eggs there was fruit, cereal, toast, croissants etc. over all I was very pleased with the place.

Quaint and quiet, with excellent care

The room we stayed in (The Charlotte) is an odd shape, and small, but it was perfect for our needs. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful. We were given permission to drop off our luggage early, although they don’t allow early check-ins. When we arrived, we were doubly surprised and blessed to be able to check in early and enjoy our day in beautiful Vancouver. The neighborhood is quaint and quiet, and we highly recommend the Douglas Guest House.

Arrived in Vancouver for a medical appointment, up since three in the morning. Our appointment was early so we went to find our location which is very close to the hospital. Arrived three hours earlier than check in time and without a fuss or extra charge got to lay down for an hour before venturing out. We quickly learned we were close to Granville Island, shops, train station and more. Looking for affordable accommodation this is it!!!!

Simple accommodations for a better price than nearby hotels. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the breakfast was great and I had an amazing few nights' sleep!

Do not stay here!

Terrible experience. The room was 32C / 90F when we arrived. There was a portable air conditioner in the room that we turned on and after 2 hours the room was still a sweltering 86F at 10p at night. We tried calling and texting the contact number provided multiple times as did Hotels.com, and no one would pick up. Keep in mind that the listing says “air conditioned”. There was a skylight above the bed with a paper window covering falling off, that would let in light at the crack of dawn. We sat on the bed and it completely caved in. Finally after no response to our calls (and those from hotels.com) we had to leave and seek a last minute hotel elsewhere, as the room was unusable. The next day we were notified that we would not receive a refund as we hadn’t cancelled in advance of arrival. What in the world? We couldn’t know the status until arriving! The unit was completely unusable and while we were willing to move to another room, no one would pick up or reply to our calls/txts. I will be pursuing a refund through my credit card company as the host is citing their cancellation policy.

Clean and comfortable

Clean and comfortable in general in a beautiful 100 year old house. That being said, a few things would have made it better. 1. No place to put hygiene items in the bathroom. A stand of some sort would have been great. Did appreciate that there were lots of hooks. 2. It was wonderful and unexpected that there was a small refrigerator in the room. A garbage can there would have been great. 3. Also would have appreciated a small table in the room. 4. The tall rotating fan made it bearable and was appreciated but it was very warm. AC would have made it better.

While the bed wasn’t the most comfortable we’ve had while travelling, the room was clean, the bathroom was very modern in this 80 year old character house. The breakfast in the morning was absolutely excellent!! We would definitely stay here again

Well located and a friendly staff.

Lovely stay at the Douglas Guest House. Staff clearly explained the after hours check in and everything went well. I was happy with my room, which was an outside entrance. It was very clean, tastefully decorated, quiet, and comfortable. The included breakfast was amazing with fresh cooking, fresh fruits, juices, breads, and more. They take excellent care of their guests. I would definitely stay here again

We found the staff extremely friendly, and helpful. Very comfortable room, and quiet. Great breakfasts every morning. I would definitely stay there again if I ever have to go down to Vancouver again.

We stayed in the Mateo room located on the main level which was lovely and comfortable.The staff were warm and friendly and the breakfast served was exceptional.

Super convenient from the airport, and super convenient to downtown without being in the heart of it.

Charming and welcoming!

It was just fine, very charming. Perhaps not enough guest parking but that comes with the location, I guess.

Good: location, cleanliness, access, parking, quiet. Not-so-good: baseboard heater in suite's bathroom (William Room) not working.

Location is good re public transit in all directions, train from airport, etc; however, there is a moderately steep hill of four city blocks to climb up from the transit location, then stairs to the front door and more stairs to most rooms. We stayed five nights in the Penthouse room which is three flights of stairs from the street level. After a day of shopping, those stairs were onerous! The main room contained the bathroom, a queen bed, a table, a fridge, coffee maker, but it could not be private from the other room which contained a queen bed and the only closet. The furnishings are typical B&B but the beds are comfortable. No housekeeping is done during your stay. The main negative factor for us was that there was no locked room to leave your luggage in storage before check-in or after check-out ... the suggested place was in the main floor living area which was open to all people who knew the front door combination ... not ideal if you are carrying expensive goods. We would stay again but only for a shorter period.

It was convenient. I still haven't recieved my recipt supposed to be emailed. Checked out yesterday morning and would like to see my final bill.

Nice room and quiet location

The location is nice....you are within walking distance of nice neighborhoods and some coffee shops. What surprised me and what I did not like was that I was in a basement room and had terrible wifi. Also, I thought I was going to get a continental breakfast.... got nada. Somehow, this amenity was crossed off the list. Gettting checked in was crazy, saw no one, was let into a lobby to pick up a key and then directed to go around to the back of the building to the basement. Very old building.... I thought I paid more that it was worth.

Excellent service/lovely location

They were extremely helpful and responded immediately to our request to change rooms to provide us with a second bed. Downsides; lots of windows so room was hot and the light woke us up very early, also because of COVID no access to a kitchen/fridge/microwave/coffee, etc., outside back decks rotting and in need of repair.

It was a little cool when we got there and could not find the thermostat

The room is clean and quiet, plus close to where I have my eye appointment.

Stay was great, bed was very comfortable and check in was very smooth. Free parking was an added bonus and we didn't have any trouble getting a parking spot.

I have stayed at Douglas Guest House many times in the past and always appreciate their courtesy and value and looking forward to a comfortable stay. Their service during these most interesting times is entirely up to code and very appreciated

Excellent character home. Expect stairs. Breakfast to start at 7 am would be better than 8 am

Allowed me to check in early, room was clean and good overall atmosphere. Good breakfast as well.

Very noisy 24 hours a day. slamming of doors. Tv has a hard time to set channels. Very low water pressure. Unsecure parking area with cars being broken into. Nice bright spot was kitchen area clean and decorrative. Breakfast servings were small and tasteless. Will not ever return for another visit.

Enjoyed our stay at the Douglas. Friendly staff, comfortable room, great location. an upgrade to down pillows would be nice! One suggestion would be to have the TV on a higher stand/table so it is viewable when laying in bed. We would recommend this hotel to our friends.

The property itself was very nice, but it was very noisy. I'm not sure if it was staff or the other guests, but there was a lot of stomping and slamming of doors. The room was clean and comfortable, but having a shared bathroom wasn't ideal as the other guests for atwr a

It was a nice room looking, but it was swelteringly hot in there with no option to change the heat and the whole place smelled very strongly of artificial air fresheners. Not suitable for people with environmental sensitivities or allergies.

Great location, lovely staff, great breakfast choice. We were able to drop luggage off early. Location is fantastic yo get to bus, shops, Mobi hire bikes and only $29 taxi ride from airport. 2nd time we have stayed and won't be the last!

Excellent position in quiet road but close to centre and metro. Lovely breakfasts with friendly staff. We had the Charlotte room with its own entrance a good size but needed some maintenance of windows and cupboards in the kitchen area.

Location is safe and everything is available in the area. Breakfast is great !

The good is that we were allowed to leave our luggage in the living room before our room was available. Also it is close to the city. However the walls are very thin and you can hear everything. We were in a “basement “ room and there was another room rented on the same floor. We could hear the other people coming and going as well as the people above us. The room itself felt a little run down and the bed was very creaky. We had to leave at 3am for a 6am flight so we were not able to stay for breakfast which is included in the price of the room. We felt the room itself was overpriced, maybe if we were able to stay for breakfast we would have thought it was a better value.

A charming characteristic homely guest house with every a family/group would need. Extremely comfortable beds, cozy clean freshly washed bedding was amazing. Bathroom and kitchen a little dated but suitable for our needs. TV and wifi were good. Breakfast choice was uncomplicated and plentiful (eggs, cereal, toast, fruit, pancakes). Easy check in/out. Loved it so much we cancelled another place and rebooked here forvthe end of our 4 week trip.

We liked everything about this accommodation . It was very clean and well kept. The staff was very friendly our little suit was very comfortable cozy bedding Close to where we needed to go walking distance. And to top it all off the served an amazing breakfast. This stay was a very favourable experience and we will definitely stay there again next time we go to Vancouver

Excellent choice in pricey city

Handy to trains and buses, great staff and breakfast, good room and good shared bathroom. Stored our baggage for many hours coming and going, very handy.

A very quiet tree-lined avenue. This could be well out in the suburbs. In fact, it is only 2 blocks from the city hall and three blocks from the subway station. A few yards away is one of the main north-south streets and an impressive view over downtown Vancouver to the mountains beyond. The reception area is filled with useful information and less useful but charming ornamentation - an old typewriter for example. No need to stay there for long though. The welcome is quick and efficient so you can soon get to your room. On this visit, it was the self-contained "Charlotte" room which has its own entry, a kitchen area complete with microwave and fridge and, of course a bathroom. The only air-conditioning is an electric fan which did its best, but these were amongst Vancouver's hottest days of the year. The shower is an attachment in a tub so the less athletic guests need to be careful climbing in and out. Breakfast is in bright dining area with a terrace outside. Vegetarian only but there is a nice choice of freshly cooked omelettes, french toast or pancakes and plenty of cereals, juice and coffee. The desperate carnivores do not have far to go to find a cafe. Some may miss the refinements of larger hotels but, if you like to stay in somewhere with character, this is highly recommended.

Great old house 7 minute walk from the metro station. Nice rooms and very clean. If you are allergic or bothered by scents I would let the property know as the laundry detergent is very strong that they use and may cause issues with some people.

A Place to love and enjoy.

We had a suite and thus more room than needed but couldn't enjoy all the amenities offffered. The breakfast was a treat and the people who served us exceptional.

Lovely heritage house on treelined street

This is my second stay and both have been wonderful. Great breakfast, great staff and plenty of food places nearbly.

Amazing stay in Heritage home & neighbourhood! Breakfast included, was an event with light home cooked options. Walking distance to many local attractions and venues. We're telling all of our friends how much we enjoyed our stay.

Pros: Clean. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic. Staff were friendly. Cons: The lock was broken for one of the windows in our room, so our room could not be properly secured. Windows did not have screens on them.

The property is very conveniently located with a short walk to a metro station. The staff was very professional and very friendly. I emailed them questions on check-in processes and got immediate responses. We arrived in the morning and the staff accepted us warmly and showed us how to get around the house. And they gave us the room key as soon as the room was cleaned (~11:30am). The breakfast omelette was delicious.

A Gem in the City

This guest house is in a great location--just 3 houses off a main street, so quiet, but convenient! The staff were very helpful. The breakfasts were a step above what I've gotten elsewhere. Parking could have been dicey, but we were able to park every night so no problems!

I loved that it was a tradition B&B and got to meet the other tenant every morning for breakfast. It was adorable and comfy. The one downfall is that it was kept at a very hot temperature, but sleeping with the window open was hard since we were just off a main street and it was pretty loud.

I'll definitely be back! Wonderful staff, wonderful breakfast.

Great little suite!

Great little suite, a little cold the first night but once I figured out the thermostat it was awesome! My host was very accommodating and helpful. As I was working I didn’t get a chance to venture upstairs for breakfast but I’m sure it was awesome!
