Convenient to friends we were visiting. Noisy on main road

Only a few units so not difficult to park. It had all you needed to stay for a few days. Lovely staff.

Lovely motel - clean and well maintained but out of town

Lighting was a real issue and a lack of power points as well. Seating for a family unit was not engough to wide down

The owners are very friendly, helpful, and caring. Had an issue when booking through Expedia but the owners quickly directly contacted me to solve the issue. The rooms are clean and spacious, and ours had a nice view of the golf course. The curtains in the room were black-out curtains and they had several outlets in the room so convenient for charging devices. We were glad they also had laundry facilties for guests. You can easily walk to an area with many restaurants if you don't want to cook. Each room has one designated parking spot. A great location/price to stay if you want to do a day trip to Queenstown or Wanaka and there aren't (affordable) accommodations available there. It is also a quick 3-min drive to the Cromwell Heritage District if you want to experience a little local history, and there are places with locally produced fruit nearby.

My family stayed here for one night which served the purpose. Overall we thought the property was tired. The garden and playground area was un-kept, cigarette butts on the car park and the entrance to the room didn't look welcoming as a knackered pair of chairs and table sat outside. The linen was clean, but the upholstery was completely worn. One of the chairs should have been thrown away. The bathroom was fine except the toilet cistern which was very old. Would not stay again.

Nice and clean and quiet. No alpacas. Shower door would not close properly.

Overall we had a nice stay. Everything worked properly and the property manager was quite helpful. Property was a bit older and a bit tired, but we had a good stay nonetheless.

This motel is fine for an overnight stay if passing through. However it could do with a cleanup outside, lawn & gardens were messy. Could do with a ceiling fan or air conditioning as it got stuffy in room during the night. Bathroom is updated and looks Great. Manager not on site when we arrived for allowed check in, was away having lunch. A note on the door would’ve been a good idea.

Nice and clean, warm and tidy

There was a loud noise ( sounded like a water pressure tap ) that went off for about 5 seconds approximately every half hour which was very annoying especially during the night. Vanity basin in the bathroom old and stained. Won't be staying there again!

This motel is pleasant and clean. Although a bit tired inside, it was tidy and adequate.

Booked on line with this property. So smooth check in and ground floor room. There is a dairy across the road, restaurant 100m from motel. The supermarket is approx 2k away, fully recommend this a place to stay.

The staff at this hotel were absolutely wonderful. They promptly changed our room without any questions, making our stay even more enjoyable. Highly recommend their excellent service!

We kind of knew this would be a budget option but we didn't expect that there would be underfloor heating and it had everything we needed for our brief overnight stay. Would we stay again? Definitely! So easy and just the right amount of stuff to make you feel very comfortable.

Well positioned at the end of a long days drive with easy parking. Good comfortable beds for a good nights sleep. Just what we wanted.

The unit was spacious and had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable, and I was happy with everything for the price I paid for our stay. The only real downside was that the soundproofing between the units is not good.

This is the third time we have stayed here, and we will keep coming back as it is always spotlessly clean, and so quiet. The beds are extremely comfortable, and the staff always willing to answer any questions.

we loved the underfloor heating, the shower was v good and I enjoyed having real, fresh milk rather than uht or coffee whitener.

2 nights in Oamaru

Weather was great, a lot to see and do in Oamaru, love the old area, great food and cool drinks

My second wonderful experience staying at this motel - I enjoyed it so much the first time that I brought my wife to share the experience on this occasion. We both loved staying in such a beautiful motel - with such friendly staff

This is a good motel that provided me with everything I needed. The location was great to get onto the main highway

1 night in Oamaru

Great to be back in Oamaru, popped down for a meeting, had a great meal at Scotts Brewery, love the old part of town

The 2 bedroom unit we stayed in was clean tidy and warm and good value,owner very helpfull can recommend this motel.

First night spent in 2 bedroom unit nearest road. Very noisey thanks to trucks passing through. Changed to one of the furthest rooms for nights 2 and 3. Much better. Nice, well appointed and clean rooms. Recommended.

Place was bright, spacious, immaculate, private away from the road in the unit we stayed and had Alpaca's next door to look at. Has ample parking, great facilities and was situated on a flat ground.

Lovely spacious spotlessly clean unit that looked like it had recently been refurbished

The place was very clean and the staff were amazing and friendly. We also loved seeing a couple alpacas up close that was next to the accommodation.

The motel is almost at the end of town, but the town is not really big. The room was wonderful!

Roomy, comfortable modern apartment style motel

Roomy, very comfortable, modern apartment style motel with kitchenette. Great for a business traveller like myself who likes to eat in occasionaly and prepare breakfast for those early morning starts when nothing else is open. A few steps away is a good bottle shop where one can purchase an ale or two end enjoy them back at the room. Will definitely stay here again on my next business trip.

Great all round

Light, bright and airy with High ceilings. Well looked after with no scratches and bumps in the paintwork, nicely dressed. Strong Wi-Fi, good TV. Comfortable. Quiet, nice grounds. Plenty of things to do in the area and a lot of eating opportunities. I'd recommend this to anyone.

The room had recently been decorated and was located to the rear of the property so road noise was not an issue

The staff were very friendly even helping us out with an electric frying pan so we could cook in the room. The kitchen facilities were fantastic and saved us a lot of money not having to go out for meals.

Will Be Back

We stayed here on our way south and it was perfect for us. The room had been recently updated and looked great. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was fresh and clean. The owner was very helpful when our car battery needed jump starting. The Chinese/Fish & Chip shop along the road was also very nice and saved us going right into town for food. Would stay here again.

It was nice and clean and comfortable for what we needed I just wish the shower had some pressure, it would have been quicker to wash myself under the tap.

Good stay and good service but was disapointed with TV as there was no SkyTV just freeview which was not up to standard.

Only a whistle stop visit - arrived in the late evening and left before breakfast the next day, but the layout, facilities and friendly staff made it easy and pleasant. We were travelling with my dad, who's in his 90s, so comfort, accessibility, and an absence of hassles was important, and Colonial Lodge delivered on all counts.

They demanded a credit card as payment had been made through Expedia who is a third party. Not good enough. If they don’t want bookings from third parties then don’t take them

Penguin capital

Good price. Semi noisy as next to the main highway, but all the local motels are on this highway. Owner is upgrading all the units. Our one had nice underfloor heating which was a nice supprise.

This is a nice motel with quiet rooms down the back and plenty of room for our family.

Tidy and Clean

Our room was perfectly clean upon our arrival. Furniture and appliances all look and feel like new. Staff super friendly and efficient. An excellent stay !

Stayed one night and was very happy with our stay with the unit having everything needed. Easy to find, good parking, comfortable bed and pillows etc

When we first arrived, we were really early but tried to be cheeky and check in. The rooms weren't available of course. The manager seemed a bit unhelpful at first but soon warmed to our group. In the end he was very helpful and understanding. We would recommend this hotel as a base if you are with a vehicle. however, it is a reasonable distance out of the town centre. The rooms had recently been redecorated to a good standard and the cleanliness could not be faulted.

An ok place to stop off enroute. We arrived in the middle of cyclone gita so found the apt a little cool and it took a while to warm up. Traffic noise at night as it's on SH1. Everything you needed good beds and lovely shower. We found wifi a bit patchy but that may have been the storm.

Not as described

Motel not as described. No fan or air con. 1 tv channel. Smelt like cow manure. Very disappointed in this motel.

Ideal for the budget traveller, passing through

We enjoyed our stay at the Colonial. It showed all the signs of a well run establishment where details don't slip through the cracks. The room was well set up and comfortable. Good fast internet that was reliable (didn't drop out inexplicably). This is an older motel, so the infrastructure is not new, but it is well-maintained. The motel is quiet - though being on the main road, there are the occasional passing traffic that is noisy. In high summer, you need the windows open so the traffic noise is noticeable, but only for awhile.

Suited us a family of one adult and two children, plenty of space, staff very helpful. On a main highway, but there wasn't much traffic so the noise didn't bother us.

Great host - all the required amenities onsite with plenty for the Children to do with animals over the fence to view and a good play ground to keep them busy, we will be returning.

Great stay

We booked here for one night to go to the Blue Penguin Colony. Our room was awesome! We had beds to sleep 6 and the bed was very comfortable complete with a heated blanket. We also had the first room next to the road and it was quiet. The owners were wonderful and even gave us some tips for watching the penguins and told us take a blanket from the room to keep warm (which was needed and appreciated). I would definitely recommend this place. There is even a play area for kids which is great if you've been in the car for a while.

Conveniently close to town

Really enjoyed our stay, lovely people and a very nice room. Enjoyed how easy it was to explore the town and surrounds from this handy location.
