This was the worst hotel experience I have had in my life.
The location on the beach was great The breakfast could use more options and the pina coladas were horrible
The property is wonderful. Access to the property is painful and challenging!
All was perfect
The grounds are beautiful, the staff is amazingly friendly and helpful. The food was good and the WiFi worked!
I love this place Highly recommended by my wife and I
Though it was situated on the ocean, the facilities are in need of repair. The approach road to the property is poor and the hotel facilities are dated. The electric went off frequently and water appeared impure.
Ool
My only issue was with the dirty pool. I coukd see algae in some parts of the pool. Sit up Coconut Groove.
Had a pleasant stay but was disappointed that there was no internet connection in my room and that was not the first experience. I think Management should endeavour to fix it permanently to facilitate contacts with our loved ones from there. The staff are pleasant and the food was as usual, very good.
The location is really nice and grounds are well kept including the pool, restaurant, gardens and the beach. Two things need improvement. Rooms - air conditions are noisy and it’s difficult to get a good night sleep. Food - dinner was OK but breakfast was very poor with low quality and very little choice. For the price, our stay was OK, but just a bit more attention to detail by management would make it great, especially that the location is really nice.
The property is breathtaking. The view of the beach is amazing. It’s such refreshing place to go after seeing the Elmina Dungeon. The staff was very attentive and made sure all our needs were tended to. I’ll definitely go back here!
This is my fourth visit and I will come back the next time I visit Elmina.
beautiful location, poor service
misunderstanding with hotel.com. they don't have doubles for triple use. they only have mattresses to add which for 170 USD per night I find a scandal. i made a fuss and they upgraded me to the family room. but you should review your booking with them.
Maybe When It First Opened but Not Again!
We sacrificed to stay at this “resort” but after two days of “fails” I had to go. I loved our tour guide but that’s about it. Our room lacked amenities and after complaining of having no television services, it wasn’t fixed and we basically had no entertainment. Our bathroom smelled of wet dog and the water from the faucet was “brown.” We were also charged for someone else’s “snacks” on our bill and our food was cold when we ordered room service. The beach is beautiful and clean; however, I walked around in fear because there were no nets around the coconuts. Guess what, there were falling coconuts everywhere. I was really disappointed.
They were unable to find my reservation via Hotel.com. Placed in a standard room that was substandard. Toilet leaked all night which created a puddle of water on the floor I. The bathroom. Called maintenance, they came mopped and laid towels down.
I loved the food and the hospitality from the staff. Also loved that the beach was in distance of the hotel.
Ceiling leaks
Second night it rained. Rain dripped down on me as I was sleeping, because the ceiling leaked.
Beach front location nice with nicely kept grounds. Loud music played by other guests on their portable stereos at the swimming pool ruined the peaceful tropical setting. Management at the pool unable to change the situation. Food not up to the prices charged Fruit ran out at breakfast time, coffee machine broken Wait time for service generally unacceptably long.
Hotel OK, close to the beach, but: - limited beach space - very limited gym equipment - no internet during the whole stay
We loved the customer service and kind attitudes of the staff. They were knowledgeable and accomodating.
Great ocean front hotel
The resort was enjoyable. The oceanfront restaurant the relaxing. The beds were stiff and was somewhat uncomfortable. It was an oasis near the busy town
Very relaxing and safe location. I would stay here again.
less attention to micro management
* long time for serving simple beers ! on occasions had to walk myself to the bar to grab beers ! * ordered pizzas - oven spoilt hence can't have * ordered yam chip and cassava chip - out of stock for that day since being a sunday ! surprising * they earlier had hot water and coffee in the room , removed, hence you pay and have to walk all the way to the restaurant * intercom not working * limited TV / movie channels
Must stay Hotel on Beach!!!
Wonderful experience, Staff, Food, Lodging, Pool, Bar and View of Ocean. A must stay when in Cape Coast!!!
Recommend to anyone heading to this part of the world.
Resort is ok. Nice area. However at arrival they did not have our expedia booking One family room was available instead of 2 rooms They said the expedia booking was not in the system
Very nice place to stay. But the internet sucks. I will be back again just hope the internet will be better
Excrement place to stay
The accommodations were great a excellent place to stay, Add to this the beach, the pool and dining on the water front, fantastic.
More a Motel than Hotel
Coconut Grove the road to this resort is in a bad way - not tarmac. It felt like a “Paradise Lost” The bungalows we stayed in were ok*, sitting room dark and uninviting; kitchen poorly furnished (maybe because we only stayed two nights); swimming is not recommended in the sea. Restaurant - twice we ordered food for 5 and both times 4 dishes arrived and then we waited 30 minutes before the 5th dish came - no apologies or explanations given. Coconut Grove has great potential which the owner and managent need to realise. *In family room second bedroom was not used due to bird droppings on the bed this was reported”.
Norfolk boy in Elmina
Wonderful spot. Just a perfect beach location but rooms pretty average and food very average. But best in the area.
Setting is very nice, but all else a disaster
I have stayed at this hotel before, 5 years ago, in that time the price has nearly doubled and they have done nothing to the rooms that are very tired. The television did not work, nor the internet, and room service was really non existent, they are charging 4 star prices for a 2 star room and service, it was a ''rip off'' Was very disappointing and a big shame, the owner I understand is very wealthy, and obviously does not care about his guests!
Two nights at the Coconut Grove in Elmina
Wonderful location and setting, beautiful grounds. Excellent food and cooking quality. Staff very pleasant and accommodating. Despite few clients, we had to wait nearly an hour for our room at 4 pm the day of our arrival, though we had reserved. But otherwise, I highly recommend the Coconut Grove Beach Resort in Elmina, Ghana. The rooms are kind of basic but fine, and the TV and A/C worked just fine. Bathrooms and shower are spacious. The main bedroom is also spacious but could use a set of drawers against the wall to allow for more storage. But overall, a nice stay and I will go back someday.
Great activities: golf, horseback riding
One of the 5 hotels we stayed on our 3-week vacation in Ghana, and this is the one my kids enjoyed the most. Oliver at the golf course was warm and amazing- he played golf with them, took them to feed the fish and see the crocodiles, and always had time for them. They still talk about Oliver. My kids enjoyed all the activities at Coconut Grove, including horseback riding and running all over the beautiful grounds. The food was good, especially the grilled snapper with coconut rice. Yummy!! The guys, Mikelos and Emmanuel were very helpful- they went out of their way to make the stay comfortable. I hope they invest in maintaining this property, and plant some lawn grass. We'd definitely love to stay here again on our next trip to Ghana.
Best hotel in elmina
The staff were very friendly. The room was lovely and spacious with a very comfortable bed. The surrounding area was very peaceful with a lovely outdoor area to go for nice long walks. We had fun watching the crocodiles in the crocodile pond. The buffet breakfast was also incredible. It was all round a lovely experience and I would definitely recommend it.
Amazing resort
Was a bit disappointed on arrival at checking in as I had booked two family rooms through Expedia but the staff claimed only one came through and as such there was no availability for the other family room. I had my email confirmation and all from expedia but this seemed to not matter to the staff. After about 15 minutes of faffing about and some raised voices, the problem was fixed and the rest of the stay was amazing.
Sorry I could only stay for one night.
Clean and comfortable, bungalow-style room. Firm, king bed. Nice decor. Bar was a bit noisy, but quieted down around 11. Nice breakfast buffet, right on the ocean. Not a lot of hot water (older model heater) in a shower big enough to throw a party in. Close to Elmina Castle. Beach activities, golf and sun-downers. So relaxing.
Lovely hotel on the beach
This is a great location for anyone traveling for sheer pleasure or for work. Well located, well maintained, very peaceful. The sound of the ocean always in your ears.
Awesome place to stay
This is our favorite place to stay in Ghana!!! The breakfast and meals were awesome as well as the service.
Extremely rude reception. Beautiful beach.
Extremely rude front desk. Basic rooms. Great beach and area. Its a pity that such beautiful location is in hands of management which cant get a decent receptionist.
Outstanding location right on the ocean.
Reception and housekeeping and all of the staff very helpful period
Good stay
It is by far the finest resort in the area with a full beach. People are pleasant and helpful. Spacious grounds with an open restaurant on the beach. Nice pools. Bar closes at 10:00PM. Solid security, felt very safe. Quiet rooms with porches to sit at. Spent a week there. Likely the only place I'd stay in the Cape Coast region.
Good food, pool area was very nice.
Two small(ish) complaints. The interior door connecting my room to the one next door (I assume they are available as adjoining rooms?) was very thin - every time the person next door coughed I could hear it loud and clear. Also, while this is technically a beachfront resort, don't count on lounging on the sand and going for a dip in the ocean; the sea was far too rough for swimming (at least while I was there) - I didn't see a single person get in the water the two days I was there. The hotel description says lifeguard on duty, but the "lifeguard" was handing out towels at the pool and wasn't even in site of the beach. I was disappointed about not being able to swim in the ocean, but overall I enjoyed my stay.
Beautiful surroundings. Lots of peace and space.
Everything went smoothly. Food was great. Enjoyed the surroundings!
Beautiful oceanfront property, and peaceful!
Spacious room, comfortable beds, friendly and helpful staff.
Relaxed Beach Resort
Resort hotel of good quality. Rooms and facilities all good, modern, spacious and clean. Staff were friendly but not very efficient by western standards. They could be slow and had to be constantly reminded to follow up things, refresh food etc.
5 star
The place was amazing, very romantic atmosphere, really enjoyed the place
average hotel overlooking the beach
we were a big group and we spent the weekend there. the location nice and it is overlooking the beach. the single rooms overlook a garden with palms and you can see the beach but from far, however the condition of the room itself was average. The Staff are very nice but the food was a bit late during dinner but the quality of food (especially seafood) was very good. We took a horse ride on the beach it was nice and cheap too. They have a crocodile pond, but we were unable to see the crocodiles because they were all in the water because of the hot weather.
Drive on by..,
One of the most disappointing resorts we have stayed at. Overpriced, lack of service and many menu options not available. The Management either need changing or retraining. Try spending a night in room 39 and then tell me you are happy with your facilities.
Nice place on the beach
Nice facilities, clean rooms, close to Elmina Castle. Pretty good breakfast included: omelets to order, fruit, cereal, other hot items.
Nice hotel close to the beach
i like very well , the breakfast unusual for european and it could be a little more variety! I will recomend to people who travel there!
Not the same as before
My family goes spends some time at Coconut Grove but this trip offered us less satisfaction as our booking for what was labelled as a 'twin-room' on the website happened to be two small beds in a single room. We had to pay US$30 per night to have an executive suite. The services in the restaurant also did not meet our usual expectations as it took so long to get served with a drink. The management can do better.
Beautiful and calming resort!
Great atmosphere. Super helpful staff. I'd recommend this to anyone staying on the Cape Coast.
Air condioning and water below average
Coconut Grove has been our home and we settled in a suite. The Expedia information of 2 queen's size beds was different from what the nice female receptionist gave to us upon arrival. She however arranged for my family to have the beds. This should not happen. We also had a challenge with the flow of hot water on the first night. The staff as usual were very nice and helpful.
Found Paradise
I checked out most beach resort hotels on line, and whoa did we fine paradise. This is one place that I will revisit. The grounds are beautiful, the location right on the beach is perfect with a clean beach and surf. The staff are extremely friendly, polite and helpful and you can see that they are enjoying there job. It was a true 5 star Ghana resort hotel and any visitor will have a very relaxing and enjoyable time. Spot on!!
Russ at coconut grove
It has many facilities so there os a lot to do and of course it is on the ocean. Food and service were OK the hotel is old and it shows it the rooms were 3rd class and were in need of a refurbish as was the rest of the place. Location is not too bad, taxis are cheap and there are a lot of good restraunts to be found.
Unbeatable location but attention to detail lackin
The hotel is located right on the beach, and the grounds are well kept. We stayed as a family and enjoyed our two day break - swimming, chasing crabs, and the cool sea breeze. However, despite booking inadvance, our room was not ready - air con was off, no towels (and it took three requests to get them). The food was not great - although breakfast was good, particularly the excellent banana bread baked fresh. Finally, better signage directing to the hotel would help, and warning - parts of the road leading to the hotel were in poor condition.
A very relaxing weekend!
A very relaxing weekend!
Great Location
Beautiful grounds and great location on the beach. Rooms were nice.
Family Vacation
Nicer than we expected. Took our daughter and her family who live in Tema for a relaxing beach get-a-way. Stayed 3 nights. People very friendly and accommodations nicer than we expected. Pool and beach were great. Didn't play golf but course looked simple and fun even for a beginner (avoid the gator pit though). Breakfast buffet that came with room very nice. But, don't be in a hurry for dinner - took almost 2 hours each evening. We'd order then go for a beach walk while waiting for food. Generally very good though. Visit the cape coast castles...very sobering. And Kakum park was fun!!
Spurge on this beach resort near castles and park
We splurged for 5 nights in a clean and very spacious two bedroom family suite on the beach. You just had to look out the window or sit on the porch for a lovely scenery. A/C was good but internet service was not. It was very clean with a huge shower but nowhere to hang clothes. There was a fridge and kettle. Staff were polite and attentive. The open air restaurant was good with the ground nut soup and foo foo being among the best we had in Ghana. They should play Ghanaian music. The pool was nice but they need new pool towels and a new ping pong table. Our daughter enjoyed horseback riding. The animals looked well looked after and the staff were skilled riders. Golf was good with a knowledgeable golf pro. Easy access to Elmina and Cape Coast castles and 1 hour by taxi to Kakum Park. The Park takes 1-2 hours to tour and add stops at the ostrich farm, Hans Botel crocs. There is also a monkey sanctuary en route.
We stayed here for one night, as it was a beach location close to Elmina. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The room was basic and a little tired but it was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed a dinner and the buffet breakfast. The beach was beautiful and well maintained and the pool a delight by which to relax. I must commend the lifeguard as he made sure children were safely using the pool. Overall I would rate it a 4 star - although the room is a comfortable and clean 3 star standard.
Friendly Staff & great location
The hotel is in good condition, the surrounding is quite calm by the beach and a golf course. Staff is friendly and always try to help as soon as possible. I recommend this hotel for a get away weekend outside Accra
Best Place for a getaway
It was nice being there, I enjoyed the facilities, but most of the stuff there need to be replaces, all the gym equipment were not in good shape, all of them were rusted. Also the breakfast buffet was nice, just that it take forever for them to refill anything that runs out. Tilapia pond had no tilapia. But the location was great. if they do a few touches it should be one of the best in Ghana
Enjoyed my stay; staff very pleasant and helpful. Loved the beach setting and room accommodations featuring porches. Very pleasant and dependable driver.
Excellent beach
Excellent hotel and service. Very few drawbacks. Wonderful beach location to take the family if one is an ex-pat like us, living in West Africa. We would certainly recommend this hotel to others and we look forward to returning in the coming years. Our hotel room was brand new, for an excellent price and set within a compound of buildings which were finished only three or four months ago. My family of four loved our experience. Great location near national park and historic slave castles. We highly recommend you select this hotel.
Could improve service
I enjoyed my stay. However, I had to see four rooms before I was shown the room I had booked. The management insisted first on showing me a horrible room, that did not correspond with the specifications on my reservation, to try and get me to pay for an upgrade. When I insisted on seeing a room that corresponded to my reservation (2 queen beds) they did finally show me the room I had booked, after a 30 - 45 minute performance that had be going back and fourth to the front desk. Other than this incident, the beach is beautiful, the rooms are clean, the staff are friendly and the food is good.
mr
Is nice place and hope to come back soon.
O boy a lot of experience, but I wish the management is going to introduce other cherful events & program packages. As iam looking forward to be there again!
For Ghana an excellent hotel
This hotel is a haven from the overwhelming experience of poverty and teeming humanity which are to be found in the areas around it. It cannot be compared to a luxury hotel in Europe, however it is perfectly comfortable and is situated on a very beautiful beach lined with palm trees with a good swimming pool, very willing staff and a good restaurant. It does have a very basic golf course but don't expect anything fancy, however it does have a crocodile pit in the middle of it! The staff try hard but things don't always work perfectly. Accessible by taxis you have the two slave castles of Elmina and Cape Coast which are both very interesting. It was much more expensive than anywhere else we stayed but enjoyable for a few days. (They also have an area of accommodation called the African Village which is much cheaper but doesn't have hot water or air con which is not available online)To find the real Ghana you only need to walk along the beach to the next village.
A great hotel given the infrastructure
Ghana is still improving, but this hotel was pretty good given the infrastructure of its surrounding. I would definitely stay their again. The only reason I do not give it 5 is because it is not the standard of other hotels I have visited around the world.
Full of good suprises
We got in very late and this place was hard to found but it was a great place to stay at to access the slaves castles and the Kakum National park. This place was full of suprise, we didn't realize that free breakfast was included and the resort had all sorts of animals like peacocks, crocodiles (enclosed) and horses that we got to see. Also, the resort's owner had a dog named Pebbles that is the friendliest and cutest dog ever!! The room could be a bit better (newer) but were clean and the beach view was really nice.
Vacation within a vacation
Our room was very tidy. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We were especially grateful to have access to a driver to see Cape Coast and Kakum park. Everyone was smiling and helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.
Nice setting but lots of room for improvement
Lovely setting/ocean views and better overall than the multiple other hotels we stayed at in Ghana. Disappointed with staff responses to our requests. WiFi never worked despite going to reception 4 times and each day being told the IT person was on their way and it would be fixed that day. Lack of internet access via WiFi cost me a fair amount of money with my business and need to pay bills on line. We waited over an hour to see the crocodile feeding and asked twice at reception being told each time that someone would be there shortly. Finally gave up about 90 min after posted crock feeding time. I no longer trusted the reception staff by the time I left. Heresay from Staff is that the owner is building a new massive home on the hill overlooking the hotel yet there is clearly a need to renovate and upgrade hotel facilities. Room ceiling leaks and stains, doorknobs pulled off, poor paint job quality, poolside furniture falling apart, the gym was a disaster--dont get a sense that management really cares about the image they are promoting.
Beautiful setting. Average infrastructure.
Was there with family for a night after going to Elmina Castle. Nice setting and friendly staff. A little updating is needed in the rooms but I will give them credit for the flat screen TVs. A bit of bathroom updating and better room lighting would lead to a higher rating. I would also suggest they make sure to have entertainment at night. I would recommend the place though. The family suite with two bedrooms, living room and bathroom was a good fit for my large family group. Of course, with Ghana and Africa, you have to constantly call to make sure that they have your reservation. I was supposed to have the more advanced family suite with a kitchen only to get there and find out those were under construction... Staff was nice so I will not be so harsh on them.

Beautiful setting but needs upgrading. I stayed there fifteen years ago. Very disappointed
