Nice cheap Hostel next to Central Pacific!
It's an old little hostel, but well located, clean and very affordable. Staff is friendly! Especially the upper bed squeaks if you turn around. That can be annoying...
Facilities and staff were fine. I sent the night tossing and turning and itching. Could hardly sleep. In morning no apparent sign of bites but that evening I found I was covered in itchty bites. Flees or bed bugs in bed presumably! Horrible!
Location No tv in room No Wifi in room 20 Old smell
The hostel smell terrible. Didn't see any cockroaches or bedbugs though. Scary neighborhood, but it feels safe inside. Not sure if this is what to expect for a 110$ a night in Vancouver.
Okay for experienced solo traveler
Checkin was easy. Does not have typical hostel feel. Kind of felt on own to figure things out. No nearby convenience stores and not many food options. This hostel is located a little further from attractions but walkable and easy bus/train nearby. Bathrooms were clean and adequately up to date and always available. Glad they were single room toilets and showers. Handsoap in toilet areas would be beneficial. Bed was comfortable. Pillows not so much. I can see the rooms being too warm in summer and loud noise from cars and people in bar across the street on weekends can keep light sleepers up. I think place is priced about right for conditions.
Good locality near to city. We feel good here, almost like at home.
Room was very not comfortable and so many bugs. And tooo noisy in my room, I can’t sleep well.
Like the location, very close to many restaurants.
Great little hostel in a really not so great neighborhood. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe gmat the hostel. Bad neighborhood but close to the train station. I’d stay here again.
Good locations staff was helpful. Bed was very uncomfortable could feel springs digging into back and fan too cool you off at night was unbearably loud made it hard to sleep. Not worth the 40$ a night I paid.
Decent location but unfortunately our room had bed bugs
Attacked by bugs. Had to sanitize all my luggage.
Bed bugs. Bugs. State of disrepair. Stereotypical bed bug marks: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Twice. Dead mice. Luckily didn't see living mice. Had some kind of spider bite on my arm too.
Not clean, seems like i have not been maintained for a while. Stow was parly broken. Blinds didn’t work. Overpriced for what you get.
The host will give you tips on how to go around the city, give you map to navigate Vancouver and its downtown. You have privacy in your own room, and the other tenants are mindful and respectful.
friendly people, but steep stairs to reception a bit awkward with my bag when I arrived and left.
Very accessible. If youre not picky and just looking for a place to sleep this is a place to be.
Fine hostel to stay in when travelling without a car. It is in a rough part of town which makes it less interesting to stay if you want to be out after dark. Main complaint is we picked this hostel because we were driving. Turns out free parking was actually the downstairs stores parking and could only be used after five. We were also warned multiple times by hostel employees that our car could be broken into. Also the owner of the lot said they wouldn't feel comfortable leaving their car there after dark. We ended up changing plans and location based on this advice and our own impressions of the neighborhood.
The bathrooms were dirty and our room had cockroaches. Will never stay there again.
Way over priced for the place. Didn’t end up staying the night there it was so bad. I thought I’d give the reviews benefit of the doubt... but nope not s good place! Plus was given a room other than the one booked. I was so grossed out I didn’t even bother saying something. Just changed and left my items on the chair-not bed!
Good price
Read the review prior and for the price honestly, no complaints
It was the first time to see a roach in Canada
We found a roach in the room.
Cheap place to stay near downtown Vancouver. Hostel is clean but breakfast should be included.
dank ass room... probably the dankest room in all of the land *not the good type of dank*
Great Hostel at a Great Price in Vancouver!
Great hostel very friendly!
The man on front desk was awful! He was so so rude and unhelpful. Room was tiny and uninviting. Don't even with the communal bathroom. The rats fighting in the alleyway below our room was a nice touch :/
Good location
Good location. No internet access inside the room.
Bugs me
Nice staff and good location but there's bugs literally everywhere. Every morning I lifted my case off the floor at least 10 roaches would scurry away. Bathrooms weren't clean.
RAT'S PALACE
THEY SHOULD EXTERMINATE THE RATS!!!
Don't do it!!!
It's a terrible terrible place. Don't do it!!!
close to chinatown
Nice staff but room condition is not good Especailly I was sacred to go out at night
Its a run down place with bed bugs the size of my finger nail, and the cockroaches make it difficult to feel clean there. The rooms are as hot or hotter then hell itself. I have stayed at 3 hostels in vancity and this is the last one ill ever stay at again.
Horrible place. My car got robbed, $700 in damages and $2,000 loss.
Awful dirty hostel
There were bugs and cockroaches everywhere, we did not feel safe there. And the room was insanely hot we could not sleep.
should to give fan every rooms.
I like only here only kitchen. Should to give fan every room because open window not enough.
Nice cozy place at the price point of affordability. Proximity to down town is advantage.
Super budget hostel - has everything you need
Has everything you need from a small budget hostel - wi fi, laundry, two washrooms, for under $30 per night.
Nice alternative to costlier accommodation
Not really an A League hostel but they strive to make the place as comfortable as possible. Very friendly and helpful staff. For the price, it's not a bad idea.
Walking distance to Museum of Anthropology and Beady Museum of Biodiversity. This was a great life lesson for my 13 year old. We saved loads of money and she experienced dorm living. Convenient parking for $10. I would do this again.
Dirty hostel full of bugs
There was no air conditioning and bugs all around :O
Hostel is in a decent location on Main street, but is pretty loud in the mornings due to street noise.
comfortable bed, room had a window with a cool view of surrounding skyscrapers. very convenient location with skytrain station and major train station nearby. a good value. private room had sink as well.
Let this be your warning - a cautionary tale.
When you enter into the hostel the building smells; it's musty, mildew-ey, and just kinda smells old; but this was bearable in comparison to what we experienced next. The staff was OK - we reserved a private bedroom and it looked just as advertised: it was a small space but enough for us, since we were just spending two nights there. When we returned from our day, I immediately noticed a large cockroach on the wall. I killed it, and looked around the room to find one more. I thought this was just a fluke (I was sooo wrong). The next morning no bugs were to be found, so I thought we were in the clear. But, the next night was the worst: we did not kill just one, or two, but 13 cockroaches... in our room alone! In addition to this, our room was unbearably hot (and I like the heat). I went to use the washroom to find 5 huddled around the garbage can, 3 more on the mirror and sink. We definitely did not use their facilities, at all. Apart from the room, you'll find a common area: a nice gathering space where you'll be sitting beside a cleaning bucket filled with dirty water and a dirty mop (which was there since we arrived, and remained after we left). In the hallways, you'll find mattresses resting against the wall, with what looked like bed bug markings. You will have access to wi-fi, but you will have to be in the common area to receive service. In summary, please let this be a cautionary tale. If you can put up with all of the above, then this is the place for you.
Convenience is key
I personally didn't mind my stay at the hostel, based on the price and convenient location to sky train. The hostel was very dirty, I had to clean the shower just to stand in there with shoes on. So if you don't mind a little dirt, with an affordable price this place is for you.
Infested with bedbugs and cockroaches
This place has bedbugs-don’t stay here
Good for a short stay
The clerk was friendly. The WiFi did not work in the room, I was advised it would work in the common areas and it did. My room was still being worked on when I arrived. It was quiet at night and the bed was comfortable enough.
Nice place, cheap, right near the sky train, thr water. Nice people, hostel very clean.
Extremely knowledgeable and helpful staff. Didn't use much facilities wise, but they seemed to cover basics. Internet was a little slow and seemed to only work within common area. Only other neg was my mattress (very lumpy with springs), apart from that I enjoyed my stay.
Nice hostel for the price
It is one of the cheapest hostel in Vancouver. Having in mind the price is a good place and it's near to downtown and it makes it comfortable to stay in. But the building is old and there are a lot of things that could be better. The bathrooms are not enough for the amount of people and the kitchen is small. The bedroom and the bathroom were always clean. I'd recommend this place if you don't want to spend a lot of money.
You get what you pay for
No one at reception and buzzer didn't seem to work. I tried calling but it just went to the phone in the reception and then voicemail. I had to wait over an hour to check in. The receptionist acted like my presence was a huge inconvenience. But it's a great location if you need to catch a morning bus/train!
Very basic adequate to the price
Great location wise, close to all amenities, but bit outdated and smelly and old. But staff extremely helpful especially Joe with lots of inside knowledge about the city
Close to train station and china town
The location of the hostel was great however the hostel was quite dirty and I couldn’t really sleep because of how dirty it was and kept thinking bugs were going to climb on me when sleeping. Overall if you don’t mind the dirt it’s a good location to be in near the station (5min walk) and chinatown!
Small Cockroach, dirty bed
Small cockroach ,dirty bed . Disnt sleep really good
Old
This backpackers is very old and run down. Smelt musty and had smokers area right next to our window so even with the window shut the smoke still leaked into our room.
N/A
Not very well kept
terrible place and parking lot is dark and notsafe
the place smells awful and not good for traveller's with allergies
Convenient to station but very basic
This building is old and poorly maintained, with only one shower for 20 rooms on the first floor. Wifi is available only near the office. The staff were pleasant and stored bags for us until late afternoon at no charge. Very convenient to the Amtrak station and science centre.
Horrid
I've stayed at a few hostels around the world, and this by far was the worst. Actually, my brother and I stayed for a total of 30 mins, because we spent 20 mins looking for another spot. The room was small, which was fine. The bedding hand had not been changed has there were strands of hair from the previous stay, the room was uncomfortably hot, and a large roach crawled out of the sink. there was another large bug on the ground my brother unknowingly stepped on. Called it quits after 10 mins and got out of there as fast as we could.
Near the train station. Close to the train station. Walkable distance.
Not the best hostel ever
Hostel is quite rundown, rooms are similar to a prison cell with bare minimal, outdated furnishings and decor. No real atmosphere in the hostel, staff somewhat rude and surly. Located very close to bus, train & skytrain station but this happens to be in the worst part of town so be prepared to run the gauntlet of drug addicts and women of questionable morals - a pile of human faeces on pavement outside when I left. However, unless you want to be paying $250+ a night for most other accommodations in town, this is one of the few affordable places in Vancouver. Despite the condition of the hostel, I actually slept reasonably well.
Stinky Experience
The place was hot and stinky. And, I was on a bike race trip and needed my belonging before 5 am. Therefore the locker was not available to me to check in at 5 am when I had to leave. Service really was not that great.
Well located for VIA Rail, Amtrak and Greyhound
Well located for VIA Rail to go to Jasper or Toronto, Greyhound bus to Whistler, Sky Train network or Amtrak. Pacific Central Station and Sky Train are only block and a half away. Stanly Park bus (No119) takes you in to Stanly Park, bus No 3 and 8 will take you to Waterfront area. Short walk to the Casino.
There's a reason why it's cheap
The place felt to me like it was dead, filled with people that wanted to spend as little time as possible there. And with reason. Staff was depressing and curt, common areas were small and uninviting. I do not recommend this hostel.
horrible. Just horrible
How can this be called an hotel?
Unless you are travelling on budget and are ok with a smelly room and cockroachs (Seriously we had 3 sharing the room with). We were in a private room and it was very hot in there. Cannot imagine the dorms. Very noisy at night with the bars around.
Looks can be deceiving!
Conveniently located for the bus terminal yes, but my goodness, I didn't anticipate leaving this hostel covered in bites. The hostel, upon first glance, looked relatively tidy. By the end of my 24 hour stay, my limbs had swollen considerably with the sheer amount of bed bug bites. Now home, I've shelled out on copious amounts of antihistamine solution and been very painfully bathing in salted water. Do not take this review lightheartedly - I am a very experienced backpacker and have seen some shocking accommodation, but none have left me in this position. I urge you to avoid, or certainly consider other hostels in the area. Some 3 days later, I'm still trying to deal with the painful effects of this god-awful stay.
Great rate, great deal!
I loved it here! The staff was very friendly and polite and helpful, and the other guests were very courteous and considerate of the shared accommodations. The only hiccups I had were: 1 - no fan in the room. Being the middle of summer, the room was boiling hot and had little to no airflow from the window. Also, since we were in a room at the end of the hallway, when people went outside to smoke we would either have to deal with the noise of the conversation and the smell of smoke, or close the window and bake. 2 - the neighborhood was a bit sketchy. We found parking on the street, but were told that we should remove literally EVERYTHING from the inside of the car, lest it be broken into. This wasn't a huge problem, but it did cause a bit of nervousness about the stay. (luckily, nothing happened and our car was unmolested)
Close to train station
The location is really convenient. It's about a 30 minute walk to downtown. It's not fancy but seemed clean. A good mix of families and backpackers.
Great location for low price. However, the room smelled and the internet could only be used in the reception area.
The shower was good, in a nice big bathroom. It would have been helpful if there was some sort of a water fountain for when the kitchen is locked at night. Parking was ridiculously easy and convenient. Don't bring heavy luggage, there is no elevator,
Hostel has a central location, walking distance from downtown Vancouver and also really close to the bus and train terminal and a skytrain station. They let you store your luggage on the day you leave which is really convenient. The hostel is not very clean and there was a mouse in our room.
Erw
Walked in, smelt weird, went to my room, stains all over the place, looked like a crack den. Rang Expedia, as I was on phone the bangs aggressively on my door an asks what the problem is, so rude and really abrupt. I ended up paying for one night but I had to leave that day, smell and rude
Horrible, noisy and dodgy
Stayed here for one night as close to train station. Would never recommend or stay again. Reception staff was friendly enough but hostel seemed more like a half way house. What looked like a bullet hole in the window and old shabby furniture in our room. In the Toilets they had notes on the fan and window etc saying broken. Could hear people all night in the smoking area with someone sounding like they were dying they were coughing and spitting so much outside the room, didn't sleep at all. If we hadn't been getting a train at 5am from 2 minutes down the road we would have left and found somewhere else. Definitely not worth $100 for a private room.
Clean place, helpful staff.
I like how the whole place was cleaned every 24 hours. Different from other hostels I stayed in. The staff was mostly helpful. Little noise. A bit chilly, though.
Simple and cheap place to stay in Vancouver
If you need a cheap place to stay in Vancouver this place is fine. The rooms and mediocre, and there is only 1 electrical plug in the room. The showers are down the hall and also mediocre. Not a nice neighborhood to park ones car outside also if you are driving there.. But again, if you're looking for a cheap place that's conveniently located, this is a good place to pick
It was fine. I stayed one night. They opened the kitchen after hours so I could make a cup of tea. Very kind.
Quick and Easy.
We had a quick overnight stay as we had to catch a train early the next morning. The bed was comfy, and big enough for two (in a private room). My only warning, if you want a good sleep, ask for a room that is away from the main roads. The windows are quite thin and I found it hard to sleep. If I had asked for a different room It would have been much better !
Be sure to get a tetanus shot!
My girlfriend and I stayed here recently and regretted it from the moment we walked through the door. As soon as we walked in the smell of stale urine was absolutely stifiling! When we left the hotel I had numerous bites all over my body which I believe may have been due to bed bugs! The hostel is situiated in a community of homeless crackheads and there are lots of used needles lying around the streets. The only positive thing about this place is that there is a very helpful and friendly man working there named Big Joe. He was very nice, we liked Joe a lot.
Not worth it
Not very clean, rooms were definitely subpar. Not the best neighborhoodcin Vancouver. I've slept in many hostels around the world, and this was one of the worse. Only go there if you absolutely need to!
DO NOT STAY HERE
The rooms are extremely hot and bed bug ridden! Do not stay here! We had a horrible experience - bed bugs everywhere. Awful conditions. Rooms were dirty. Staff wouldn't address issues like vomit in the sink. Horrible.
927 Main Street vs1038 Main Street
One hostel is on 927 Main Street (will call it 927 further in my review) and the other one 1038 Main Street ( will call it 1038 further in my review. Similarities:You can come back any time in both hostels, they have WiFi, have unpleasant smell of detergent or something, close to Central Station, Chinatown, Police Museum, relatively close to downtown and Stanley Park. Differences:927's kitchen has a fridge, stove, chairs, table, towels, cutlery, some stuff for everybody, left by previous backpackers - oil, salt, pepper, sugar, etc. 1038 - has ONLY a table, a stove and a microwave - no chair, nothing more. (Fridge in the room). 927 is quiet at night, 1038 has a bar the next door so I could not sleep before it closed. 927 kitchen is locked about 10 , 1038's kitchen is open ( you need to take all you need from your fridge in your room though and find a chair somewhere to sit and it). Reception - 927 's was one friendly guy ( Joe) and a grumpy one. 1038's was 2 nice guys, Chris and the one who speak French also. But the third guy ( Mike) was VERY disappointing - just gave me the keys, did not explain anything and yelled at me and was not cooperative at all, when I asked him to take something important from my suitcase, which forgot. Continuing yelling, he grabbed my suitcase from the storage room and said that I can take it to my room, though it was not in my plans. Thanks Chris and ''French'' guy, they changed my opinion about 1038 to better. Winner - 927 ( imo)
Terrible hostel
Go try it if you dont mind smelling the marijuana for the whole night and crazy people screaming out the street at night. This hostel is definitely the worst hostel I ever lived.
Noisy corridors, noisy bunk beds, noisy people on the streets shouting n laughing at 4am.
WORST !!!
worst hostel, super super super sketchy area, no fans in room, just one parking for whole hostel. Door security locks are so weak, if a normal teenager punches door can break it. No Safety. British Columbia have lots of motels, hostels & hotels available at very cheapest price like Ontario. Dont go by photos on Expedia. I havent seen worse than this hostel in my life. For your safety dont go
The staff was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. We arrived without really having a plan for the day, he gave us a map and circled all the attractions that he thought we'd find interesting and basically planned the whole route for us. He also made sure we knew which area was the "bad" part of town (though he assured us that we'd be safe no matter where we went). Another staff member also arranged for a cab to pick us up at 4 in the morning so we could catch our flight. We got a private room, and it was pretty bare bones, but everything we needed was there. The only disappointing part was that the wifi didn't reach into our room. The bathrooms were clean! I had never stayed in a hostel before this and was a little nervous, but we had a great experience. I would definitely recommend this place.
Good location, cheap, good place if you are young
The bunk beds are the loudest beds ever. And it's so narrow, so if you are bottom, you can't really sit on it. The room could have more improvement. Floors were dirty and dusty. But the bathrooms were worse. It's a cheap accommodation. I didn't mind the neighborhood at all. Close to great breweries if it's something you enjoy. You don't have to walk on Hasting to get to downtown if you don't want to. There's actually a nice pathway along the river that takes you to the town.
Expensive, loud, dirty.
The property was loud as located above a night club. I booked and paid for a queen private room, I got a squeaky single bed. The shower was full of hair in the drain - however was warm.and had good pressure. Was expensive for what I got.
Hostel in Vancouver
C&N Backpackers Hostel - is good basic hostel. Location is great - the sky train station is near same as McDonald and Starbucks. We had private room and it was good, clean, with TV and own wash-basin. If we will need accommodation in Vancouver - we will take this one again.
You get what you paid for.
Friendly staff. close to china town, world of science sky train station. Old building hostel, need to be updated. only have one shower room and one toilet for entire floor. you get what you paid for. Fair enough.
BE HONEST PLEASE
Surprise Hotel.com will put this on line as they do not have a wifi available queen size room at available at all but fully charge for it, this not honest and I have to take my wife to a different hotel in last minutes with expensive cost for the same night as we need use wifi in room that night... I doubt that I will go back to hotel.com if can not be resolved as I have been a long time customer for a while and we depend on HOTEL.COM speak the truth on line...
Nice hotel right on mainstreet by the skytrain
I had great roommates and we all got along and even spent some time together
Not particularly clean and noisy
Age and amenities are what you would expect from this type of accomodation, however, even for this price, I expect helpful staff and clean rooms and bathrooms. There were no taps on the basin in the bathroom and the bathroom was dirty at night and in the morning. There were ppl coming and going, loudly, until well after 3am. The location is ok though.
my trip
I had stayed here before on my west coast journey and was just looking for basic lay your headdown and go type of place no thrills no frills just good basic cheap ;) place. which is what C and N is good staff friendly kept a clean place i got good sleep there and any questions i had they answered them.the place is as advertised its cool
Basic but welcoming
Had a good experience at this basic hostel. Price seemed a little high however staff was great and allowed me to entertain a few guests without a problem. Overall would recommend.
Perfect Backpackers
I stay here every time I come to Vancouver whether its for the weekend or relocating. It's clean and central to transit, everyone whom works there is fantastic and super friendly and clearly love what they do - except the French guy, he's pretty rude and unhappy. Its not a party hostel, they have rules you abide or you leave, and that's fair. If you want a boozy party time hit up Granville St in Downtown where its accepted and encouraged. If your female and staying here alone, just be aware at night as the location is close to Chinatown and East Hastings, I have never had any problems myself but it can somewhat catch you off guard if you are not expecting it - keep to yourself and a friendly 'no' is all that is needed.
it was good. nice and kind staff, location was alright. east access to trasit.
ok but check-in in the day light..
The rate was decent for the hostel. The gentleman who checked me in was very polite and kind. However, the neighbourhood was not very comforting and it was difficult to find at night. The sign is not visible from the street while driving.
Think again. Cleap though.
- No AC (window open for cooling - loud street noise of Main Street - hard to sleep at night) - Large blanket no sheet for bed (poor for summer) - Near a bad part of Chinatown (drugs) close to train station though. - If your room is next to the bathroom, the plumbing is really noisey - Old, needs a renovation and new furniture. - Zero security on the front door - Bunk beds are crap (loud). - Wifi is crap (none in the rooms) - Not enough outlets in the room or in the hostel - Not enough bathrooms or toilets in each level
Exactly what a hostel should be.
The C&N Backpackers hostel was exactly the experience my friend and I were looking for during our stay in Vancouver, BC.

The receptionist is not that nice
