I prefer to stay in this hotel whenever I am in Beijing.

I checked in on Sunday Oct 13. It took 30 minutes waiting in line to check in. The reception staff was completely overwhelmed by the number of people checking in. I expect better service at a 5 star hotel. This is inconsistent with normal Shangri-La standards.

There are touters peddling illegal service to guests alighting from taxi at the hotel lobby. The hotel security staff is sleeping.

It was generally fine; however, the check in process still has issues as it takes too long and that the staff at the front desk lacks English skills.. The rooms are generally good, but could use a few updates.. Need a general bar area as the lobby lounge is nice, but cold in the winter time..

Philip & David from Horizon lounge were very helpful and quick to help us with our requests. They are very hospitable and made our stay at this property truly enjoyable.

Always nice to visit the China World Hotel; however, the check in and check out service is not quite up to par considering the hotel.. The stay other than that was quite comfortable..

Very convenient location underground is subway, taxi easy in and out l. Staff are very friendly. Hotel atmosphere are super. Unforgettable experience will be back.

Rooms and hotel very comfortable. However not exactly a Shangti-la hotel and false advertising as no bar facilities after 9 pm and therefore difficult to entertain customers.

Hotel is old and luxury. Good service, especially front desk 2 girls who took responsibility of bags and helping checking. Piano live in the bar, also very good. Cons: website shows free valet parking. But true is 20-30USD per day.

booked two rooms, one room with fresh fruit everyday, the other room didn’t have.

Perfectly adequate hotel and nice staff. Hotel is a bit tired and bathroom had mould in the shower. Horizon club breakfast was very good. Overall was good value for money.

Well maintained property, impressed with the cleanliness and new renovations done for Horizon Club rooms. Rates are very competitive and good value for hotel of this caliber. Location hotel is very convenient, close to all transportation. There is a massive shopping mall beneath the hotel, with shops and restaurants that suit all budgets.

The hotel itself is beautiful, very nice, the lobby is magnificent to look at. Some of the hotel staff are rude. The prices for food and drinks in the lobby lounge are VERY expensive, equivalent to $25AUD for one pot of tea!!!! The hotel is also a long way from any restaurants, so keep this in mind when booking.

Hotel is attached to the subway and China World Mall, making transportation, shopping, and restaurants very convenient. Things inside the hotel are overpriced, staff will answer questions but not overly helpful. GuoMao is the Central Business District and is a great neighborhood to stay at - because you will be comfortable. However, if you want to be close to nightlife, stay at Sanlitun or Chaoyang.

The rooms are beautiful and very well appointed. The bed is super comfortable and the view was fantastic. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the lack of English speaking staff. They seem to struggle with the language (understandable) but it was more their attitude as soon as they found out we were from Canada. Pretty arrogant staff.

The attention to detail by the cleaning staff is remarkable. There was a lingering smoke smell in the room despite it being a non smoking room. Might be because of the air pollution.

Travel desk

Stay was good, great ambience, well maintained and beautified, suite room size was superb and furnished excellently. Lounge and Restaurent was good. Only the travel desk was not organized and no facilities for booking and getting flight tickets immediately. Rest was all good. Need to improve the travel desk

Nice hotel with clean spacious room. Hall of hotel is pretty

This is our 4th time to stay at this hotel. We still like it. it's kind of a old hotel but it's still in a good condition with good service. the location is the key - CBD and very convenient. We will keep it as one of our choice for future stay in Beijing. But there is one thing we'd like to mention it to the hotel if they can get it improved that - the internet on line connection sometime gets lost, so we have to re-start it again.

Best hotel ever

Incredible. Room was so comfortable and literally had everything we needed. The bedding was amazing. The breakfast buffet was incredible.

Spacious and clean

30 to 60 minutes from airport depending on the traffic but a good hotel to overnight in. Good sized room, well furnished, staff were prompt, clean, and had a good restaurant, didn't have western food but was good food

Beautiful place

The hotel lobby is beautiful, and is conveniently located with the China World Mall. The staff was very friendly. It's the business district, so there's not much in terms of small little shops around the area (from what I could see), but it is conveniently located at Guomao subway. The rooms definitely need some freshening up, but I would stay again for sure.

Great service, perfect location for my meetings. Cherry on the cake is that the spa can arrange therapists who are trained in Chinese medicine. Mr. Lu's massage saved me from a lot of back pain.

Overall I had a pleasant experience, only improvement is Wi-Fi connection process is kind of unnecessary hustle

Beautiful Hotel with Grandeur Charm

The hotel is well kept with an impressive lobby filled with interesting chinoiserie. The room is nicely configured to give you a homely feel instead of a typical hotel room. Service is good - able to accommodate my early check in. Convenient location to the China Wiorld Mall and the subway.

Short stay in Beijing for Chinese New Year.

Spent 6 nights at China World over the Chinese New Year holiday. I love the convenient location of the China World hotels to public transportation. Broad selection of restaurants and night life make sure that you have many options.

Great location in the city situated over subway

I have stayed at Chinaworl many things in the past. It still has not lost any of it old charm except for two area: I) I miss the old Japanese restaurant ( Aria?) Ii) Also I always would book a tennis game and hour with the tennis pro. This visit the tennis receptionist told me there were no longer any tennis pros to offer a lesson and nobody to hit tennis balls with me. I was disappointed. How can such a nice facility not have at least one coach available for lessons? That is why I rank the facilities lower on this evaluation.

Comfortable business stay in Beijing

Room I was booked in was not available but I was upgraded to the club floor including breakfast in the club lounge. A very pleasant stay in a comfortable and clean room with a comfortable bed. Exactly what is expected for a business trip. Excellent value for money. Can always recommend this hotel.

Very nice hotel experience.

We stayed in the club lounge. Food quality was excellent. We enjoyed every bit of money we spent. We will definitely try to stay in this hotel again. It was so nice to allow us to check in at 6.00 am in the morning without any fees or any questions being asked.

Great stay at prime location

the check-in was a bit of a wait because of a business group check-in right in front of us. They ran out of the room type we booked so they upgraded us to a 1-bedroom suite with breakfast included. The suite is amazing - spacious, quite, and clean

Loved Our Stay

First hotel we stayed in during our 2-week vacation in China. Our stay was for four nights. Everything was excellent, from check-in, the comfort of the room, all the staff, and breakfast in their restaurant. Being connected to the mall allowed for wandering to kill a bit of time. Hotel conveniently located to so many places we visited. Stay here, you'll have no regrets. Oh yes, great rate for wonderful room

Warm friendly staff and great facilities.

From the moment we checked in to our departure we were treated very warmly and valued. The horizon club benefits were included with the room I chose and this was amazing. The staff were wonderful and the food was amazing. Nothing was to much trouble for them and they helped with every request and could not do enough to make our stay one of the best experiences we have had for some time. It made our holiday very special.

Terrible smell of low quality paint.

The room had a nasuating smell of new paint. Suspect cheap, bad for health paint was used. Very disappointing as it caused me to have a terrible time sleeping. Would have moved to another hotel had it not been very late already. Would not stay there again. Otherwisea nice hotel...but the most fundamental aspect of a high quality hotel, namely a comfortable to stay in room, was missing from the picture.

The billing

Had to pay separately from the general hotel bill for supper in my room and breakfast at the restaurant. They won't charge to the room in general. Furniture and fittings are worn-out. Staff speaks poor english. Could not consolidate all nu charges into one number bill, as requested. Difficult to find acces by car at night, local driver took 15 minutes with walk-outs: all doors locked for security

Recommend for international families

While visiting Beijing during Spring Break, our family had a wonderful stay at the China World Hotel. The rooms were very nice, the breakfast buffet was excellent, and the hotel service was terrific. The hotel gym is one of the best we experienced while touring in China. And the shopping mall under the hotel offered convenient options for dinner.

Hotel is dated. It looks the same as it did 10 years ago when I stayed there. The fitness center is quite deficient and needs a big time upgrade.

Decent hotel

Decent hotel, a bit outdated and that's why they are revamping some areas. The neighborhood is where you need to be at CBD, but there is a new mall being constructed .

Fantastic stay all around. Neighborhood was perfect for me and my business. Near lots of shopping and Silk Rd. Only downside is construction. But I don't think you can really get away from that in Beijing.

The staff service is excellent. But the facilities seem to be a littie bit old. The entence of the hotel is difficult to locate either.

Only barely Shangri La

We arrived at China World Hotel by Shangri La straight from Island Shangri La Hong Kong and the difference is remarkable. This hotel has nice clean rooms, comfortable and is as cold as we have experienced. Had a member of staff posted on our floor near old club lounge for our entire 4 day stay. Lounging on a couch generally on cell phone would not greet talk or even attempt eye contact. Paid extra for horizon club benefits which should provide afternoon tea with snacks and evening drinks and canapés. Food would constantly run out prior to scheduled time and never be replaced. Food provided at club lounge is sub standard and minimal at best. Staff and management at this hotel should look at the warmth, service, friendly staff who actually know your name and talk to you provided at their sister hotel for example Island Shangri la Hong Kong. A very cold impersonal experience compared to their proper Shangri La branded hotels.

Must for Business Travel

Took my first abroad business trip and was concerned about language barrier. No issue. Everyone at the hotel spoke good English. All employees of this hotel were so friendly and made me feel very comfortable. Definitely stay here when I come back.

I was born in Beijing and lived there almost 30 years before I came to America . This hotel is always my first choice whenever I go back to Beijing because their location . Environment and service . I just love it . Nothing I don't like there at all except sometimes pricenis high. This is time during Christmas and New Year . It was great price . Strongly recommended

The hotel was a good 5 star one. Décor is a bit on the extravagant side for my taste but otherwise good. Service was good. Restaurant was too expensive as was coffee in the lounge

The subway is just at door steps of hotel

Had a great stay but getting cabs at hotel was difficult. Many of the drivers try to stay away because the entrance was not easy to maneuver. The concierge were extremely helpful especially Leon. Great place to stay.

Great Hotel for Westerners, wiith Helpful Staff

Clean, spacious room with great view on a high floor! Shopping mall in basement has food store with European and American foods, in a mall with luxury shops. Hotel had very friendly, helpful staff. Leon at concierge desk very helpful with directions, etc. On main East-West avenues in Beijing, which runs by central sqare and gate leading to Forbidden City palaces.

Great Hotel - People could not wait to help.

We enjoyed China world very much and would stay again for sure. Beijing overall is very hard to get around in but happy to have seen what you hear about your whole life. Used Viator for tours and they are very good.
