Perfectly adequate as a stop over for the Picton Ferry
Ok for price, just needs a few things.
Office is not manned, Need to call and then they get someone to come see you. The unit we stayed in was tidy, but quite old. The stair and doors squeaked quite loudly. No Cutting board, only one small dull cutting knife, no vegetable peeler, no grater. Had free washing machine, and there was some washing powder there. One dryer did not work (discovered this when i returned 40 mins later. the other one did work. Had issue using Netflix on the TV the 3rd and 4th night (own account), but had worked first couple nights.
Had minor trouble with key collection box but nice assistance when called. Really only there a few hours so room was adequate.
Although the rooms were large enough and clean. It was scruffy with some peeling paint and edges of the wall paper, the bath tub had no taps and was unusable, the shower door did not close fully and no holders for soaps and shampoos and had to use the floor. doors either were very tight to close and open or blew open with the wind. I believe the accommodation is over priced for what you get.
Convenient to where we needed to go
No table, one chair that was ripped. No smoke alarms. No one at reception. TV always had interference. Mould around the bath. However the cleaner went out of his way to give clean towels and top up tea and coffee.
Noisy bathroom fan.
At the time of booking, I wasn't informed I had to call the staff to obtain the room key and the WiFi password until I arrived onsite. Could have communicated that better. The room wasn't exactly clean/tidy either.
Adequate for what we required but missing a kitchen sink.
Did not expect to see at least four shopping trundlers and a couple of road cones out of our window on the property. Property needs a general update. Staff friendly. Conviently situated, a walk to town and transport.
Plenty of parking space, handy location, nice staff, spacious room. Wifi was bad connection.
Room was shabby , light fittings hang off the ceiling bed side lamps didnt work, TV keep disconnecting and having to reset all the time , when we arrived no one at reception lucky to find the cleaner to get the key, room smelt awful when we walked in as thought the carpets had been cleaned then closed up sorry but we will not be back
Close to multiple food options and not to far from the ferry.
It was very dirty, there was no one at reception, the phone number to ring didn't answer twice. Very disappointed with our stay.
Terrible customer service, no fan, room was not clean, the smell was disguisting, sheets were not cleaned. Receptionist was rude of the phone hanged up when i didnt finished talking on the phone. Requested for a room change but they said they will send their cleaner to clean the room and check if we need a room change or not. They do not care about customers, I would never book with them again. Outdated worn out.
An Emergency Shelter more than Motel
Shouldn't be on this website. It's a motel used for emergency accommodation, so a very transient and unomfortable feeling from occupants. The owners are never at the front desk. They make you call a mobile and wait ages. They have a permanent note on the office window saying "Due to a staff shortage emergency..." They act like they dont understand English, when clearly they do. It is clean, but thats its only redeeming feature.
Rained at night and there is a break in the gutter above room 5 from the second floor, couldn't sleep while a fountain of water was hitting the ground right beside my room window all night. Room was clean and tidy.
Travellers: 3adults toddler. This place shouldn't be operating at all. The place was beautiful from the outside and got to enjoy the sunset from the balcony but we had so many ongoing issues. Felt like we were put in a dungeon. The appliances weren't working as the plug wasnt working so we had to get an extension chord and multi- plug to use another plug. The towels were damped and had brown wet stains on it so we asked the reception but she only gave one and saying "we only have one clean towel left, all our towels are dirty". The hot shower ran out after one person used it for 5mins. There were cobwebs on the ceiling and on the curtains. The curtains in the room we couldn't open up. The side table lamp wasnt working. The oven and stove was very filthy with dirt and left over old crumbs on it. The heater in the room was broken. We also had a couple of flees biting us around the motel. I cannot believe how filthy this place is. We were in Room 22 right in the corner back. The worst part was, the reception lady kept saying she will report it as she can't do much about it as shes covering for her friend whos been away for a month and wont be back until another month. We confronted her as we thought it was dodgy as we needed to speak to a manager or someone else the next day but she said no one works there except her friend whos overseas and shes not getting paid to help her friend look after the motel. This is very dodgy business. Overall we enjoyed our family company
Advert for property said it had a restaurant and bar which was not the case.Arrived, phoned reception as not open. Person arrived and handed me a key. I had to ask where our room was. Inside room, rubbish bin hadnt been emptied from previous stayers, 1 towel on bed, other towel was in bathroom (used). Toilet cistern dripped all night.
Bath cold water didn't work showe door couldn't close properly Was no face cloths
motel rooms are full of flee . terrible service 1/10 out of 10
The room temporation was cool even without aircon. No staff at reception for check in or check out. Human interaction was lacking.
We stayed there for 4 days the motel itself was ok apart from a dirty oven and dirty windows it wasn't vacuumed at all during our stay.office was not open during our stay the laundry room was free but it was absolutely filthy I rate it 5/10
The toilet seat was not staying standing up, need to replace it maybe. There was spider webs the carpet needs to be washed off, so over all needs to look after property. The staff who attended was so rude.
Overall I liked the property and the area it was in. Close to the hutt river and a little park and other motels. Walking along the river was very healing. I liked the architecture. It seemed very 1980's and like a dutch style. The room was nice and cool and had good solid walls. The bathroom was great. A few things that would've made it better... the light bulb in one of the lamps was out. Flannels are pretty much a necessity to just wipe the day away from the face. Internet connection in and out but that may not be the fault of the motel. With x generation perseverance I just kept reconnecting and eventually we got to watch terminator 2 which was really cool. My thanks to the owners. I enjoyed my stay.
Nice apartment with amenities
Nice apartment. Kitchen was well stocked with utensils, with some supply of condiments. Room had washer/dryer which is a plus. No receptionist & although I emailed my time of arrival as advised, there was no person who came to let us in. It was good someone helped us call the number provided. To call them myself would cost me much as I’m a out of the country tourist.
We felt the property could do with some basic maintenance and there wasn't enough towels or kitchen dishes for a family of 5.
My family arrived and we had booked a 2 bedroom unit for the 4 members if my family. We were disgusted with how dirty the place was. Especially the kitchen, plates, cutlery etc and the window behind the stove is covered in grease. The plates and cutlery were filthy so we had to wash everything before we used it and as we booked for four members we would have expected enough cutlery for all of us but there was only 3 spoons and 3 forks! There were no basic items sullied such as tissues or face cloths and while we had been given four towels we had to only use them once as the shower seal was leaking and flooded the bathroom floor whenever any of us had a shower so we had to mop it all up with the towels. Then when we turned down the bed the bed cover had a great big stain on it. Overall we were disgusted with how dirty and unclean the place was and there was never anybody there in the office to even talk about this with. We would never recommend and will never go back.
There were no staff at the property for our whole 8 day stay. We stayed over the Christmas period & only had evidence of staff providing new towels on 2 days. Property location is ok if you have a car. Property is quite dated but reasonably clean. Bathroom & kitchen really need to be updated. A very average stay, ok as we were just sleeping there & out all day visiting family.
Arrived and stood around for 20 minutes waiting to get my room. I had prepaid online and the manager told me repeatedly that my payment declined. I showed them my receipt and bank record to prove the money had hone out. I was then told I had to email these to her manager to prove my payment had gone through. All in all, extremely unprofessional, it felt like I was being scammed. Property is dirty and noisy and extremely run down.
Om arrival we were greeted by a locked reception area with a note telling us to ring a number to retrieve our key from a lock box on entering the room it was tidy enough but there were hardly any utensils so I emailed the establishment asking for two forks and the wifi password as there was no instructions left about jow to connect to the "free" wifi it was suffice for wat we needed for our 3 day stay Bed(comfy) Shower(excellent!) I appreciated the fact they placed us in a ground level room but over our two night stay we had very loud people above us Also we were out of our room for a whole day from 11am but there was no cleaning done to our room they decided to come while we were in our room and asked did we need anything? I says yes clean towels pls and our rubbish needs removing So I guess for a cheap room it was suffice and basic
I didnt like, that it wasnt clean it didnt smell clean in bathroom n kitchen. Switches were faulty
Website needs updating, stuff listed on there was not in the room eg. Iron and ironing board in every room and we had to ask for one. Noisy shower pipework. No handle on shower door. Mirrors all smeared and greasy, couldn't see in them clearly, as was the shower glass. For a five bed room there were only two eating bowls and four plates. Crockery and cutlery needed cleaning before using. Stove top rusted through. Fridge wobbly only had three feet. Noisy stairs. Needs more lounge seating, two person couch for a five bed room. Walls were filthy and need painting. Light shade over lounge area dusty as. Service poor, reception never maned, doorbell and phone outside reception don't work. Could smell cigarette smoke in our room from others smoking. Soap dispenser in bathroom didn't work or the ones in the shower. Can see where a washing machines been removed, all plumbing still visible. Wouldn't recommend this motor inn to anyone to stay at.
The beds were so comfortable! The shower pressure was excellent. There was full cooking facilities including an oven and fridge/freezer.
The Property Manager was excellent, but the motel units are extremely tired and need upgrading. The bathrooms in particular were not up to standard. It is a good location.
I didn't like outside the window looking down at rubbish and old rubbish looking bicycle or the water damage that looks like it is getting moldy in the bathroom. The wallpaper on the other side looked water stained. The TV kept lagging and cutting out. The bed was comfy though.
The only good thing at this one is the parking Room was dirty, used soap in the shower All glass surfaces dirty doors had marks on them sheets had marks on them no wifi code given reception door locked with a bell to ring and a lock box, not customer helpful. It could be so lovely if cleaned and staffed correctly. -
Unwelcoming... no staff onsite to greet you. Below average cleanliness. No extra blankets or pillows. Small supply of tea/coffee and milk. Only thing i really liked was it was quite.
Needs maintainence in the bed room ceiling leaking with heavy rain. NIce big room ,powerful shower and nice clean linnen
Close to where I needed to go. Perfect location 😊
Great shower.... good bed but limited tv station...
Had pro problems with tv. Xfixed promptly
Run down property that indeed needs a bit of licks of paint & updates
On our arrival the gentleman at the reception desk was not friendly or co-operative at all, told us to contact their receptionist by phone and sort out the matter with her, unfortunately her attitude was worse than the gentleman at the reception desk and had to contact Wotif to sort out the matter of us wanting to leave a day earlier. The property had no dishwashing liquid so we could wash our dishes, the room was not cleaned or beds made the next day, no WiFi password given, no one maning the reception desk the whole weekend, the list could go on. I will not stay there again or recommend to anyone else.
Property was very out dated - unfortunately the room hadn’t been vacuumed and the smell of previous people’s cooking left the room stinky.
The room has smelly odor and too cold, don't open the window because the view is garbage
Nice, away from everything yet near everything.
Ok for cheap accomodation. We were disappointed that there wasnt a restaurant/bar onsite as advertised and we had to find a restaurant for dinner instead, although found an amazing italian restaurant 15min walk from the motel. Staff rating only marked as average as reception was unattended when we came back as room wasn't quite ready when we first arrived and had to use phone to ring number to get key off cleaning staff member who didnt speak much english, so couldn't answer any of our questions. Main receptionist was nice and helpful though.
Great location
The accomodation was average. The whole place looked a little run down and tired. While they claimed to have Reception open until 9pm it was closed. Had to phone a number which then told me I had phoned out of hours and to phone again between 9am and 9pm. It was 7pm ?? I wouldn't stay here again.
Good
Average hotel
Quiet hotel, fairly conveniently located to get into Wellington, clean but a bit dated and in need of a bit of tlc.
Housing crisis and the guarantee of government $
Staying at the champers was nothing like what it used to be.. the champers used to be where people would stay for holidays and for work, but now, I have nothing against it, but it's all homeless people and family's.. I get everyone needs somewhere to say and I definitely don't want family's living in cars, but, as a privately paying customer, I think the motels have gotten used to getting top dollar for every room with no effort because of our homeless crisis so the effort has gone. these customers are so grateful for just a roof over their heads and have little other choice.. I don't know what motels are going to do once the housing crisis is over because customers will go back to having a choice.. In summary, you get what you pay for and we just needed one night but it wasn't exactly clean and we didn't exactly feel super welcome.. but I get it. I was very, very grateful that the error I made with the booking date was able to be fixed up but that was a hotels.com thing, not a champers motel thing.. motels used to be so nice with other holiday makers etc and is why I did prefer motels to hotels but I think it'll be the last motel I stay at for a while
Very friendly host
Place was a bit "tired" but functional.
Very nice stay thank you
Nice big room. Nice and clean. Bathroom and kitchen just a bit dated
Was satisfied with the room.
The property was rundown, we were given just one pillow each, no hand towel or flannels and only Earl Gray tea and coffee. No ordinary black tea. Outside had rubbish around and we booked there because it offered a restaurant on site but this had long been closed down. Thought it was expensive for what we got. The deodorisation was overwhelming and we wondered what smells it was covering up.
We were sent to another motel for some reason, tv wouldn’t go, lights on the blink felt dirty - Du Pont Motel
Noisy at night with permanent people living here
When we arrived at Champers in the afternoon the reception was locked so I used the buzzer outside to finally summon someone. When they came I said I was checking in and he said they can't do it there. He said he could put us in the Du Pont Motor Inn which was back where we had come from. When I booked the room it said the room was available. The review above is for the Du Pont. They put us in an "Executive" Unit for the same price. While the unit was fairly good in terms of quality I would not call it executive. The worst thing with it was that it had been poorly cleaned. The staff were also not very friendly or helpful. They did not give us the WiFi password when we arrived and when we got back to the unit later that night and tried the internet of course the reception was closed so could not get the password.
The 8-star rating is obviously from pre-Covid when Champers had a good reputation; now run down since being hired by Housing NZ for emergency housing. Absolutely awful. No basics (ie cups), dirty, items broken and damaged.
We arrived and reception not open (listed as open till9pm). Rang number on door and told it was overbooked. While waiting for the call to be returned the place looked more like a homeless youth centre with young people standinf outside sharing what ever they were smoking. Caller then checked us in at another property that was exceptional. All this was very strange as we had received a confirmation email 2 days before.
Stains all over carpet, toilet seat broken …No tv remote to turn tv on.
double charged and still not refunded !!! Absolutely terrible to deal with!
Clean Expected more cooking facilities eg. microwave
Cleani ness
good size accom.
Average room tidy . But there was a leak in bathroom and room not cleaned on a daily basis
Room was clean and well presented. However, our room was by laundry and was a bit noisey. People also congregated in this area to smoke and the fumes came into our room.
Staff tried to charge me double the Wotif rate - $380 per night instead of $380 for 2 nights - and didnt back down until l fired up my computer to show them, even then no apology. Very rudimentary service of the room on the middle day. Reception only open short hours, from 9am. Property no doubt very nice in its time.
This is the worst and most expensive motel I've ever stayed at. The customer service was terrible, from the moment I arrived and wasn't even shown how to get to my room. It got worse. The apartment itself smelled of fat. There were dirty and ripped net curtains. There was grime on the walls. There was no power point in the kitchen, so I had to boil the water on the floor. The toilet seat was broken so it kept slipping to the side. The shower head was broken and had to be screwed up in place. Then, on my second morning there, the mixer in the shower broke and during my shower it went completely cold. It took the people in charge several hours before they phoned the plumber. When he came, he took the mixer away altogether, leaving no ability to have a hot shower, only a bath. After the plumber left, the water ran brown for 1.5 days. After we complained several times, the people in charge offered us our final two days in one of their other motels, but we refused because that one had got a lower overall rating than the one we were in, so we didn't want to risk getting a worse deal than we already had. They made no effort to refund us. Do NOT book to stay here. These people have no idea how to run a motel or how to have good customer service. We have told everyone we know how bad it was.
Business trip and stayed 4 nights, office only open 9 am to 5pm so everything was done by email. Shame the restaurant isnt open any more. The room and bathroom are dated and could do with a re fit. A 3 star
Great place to stay quiet relaxing, just missing a microwave. Thanks Brian
Good service, well run and a handy location. Enjoyed my stay - Thanks
Room was clean enough at first, except for mould in the usual places around the bathroom shower and floor edges. No room servicing at all during a four night stay. Noisy every night at the complex until 12 or 1am with thin walls. Mattress was well worn and sagged in the middle. Lock on room door was very flimsy.
Great location. Friendly staff. Nice room. Nothig was a problem. Parking could sometimes be difficult.
Very handy to shops and ferry. Quiet. Would have liked another chair.
The motel has just changed ownership so it would not e fair to make any significant judgement at this point. However, the room was clean and well priced. The kitchenette could be better equipped, but that will probably come with the new ownership. The location is quiet and just a short drive from the business center of Lower Hutt. I can recommend this as a good place to stay.
Lovely place. Friendly people and nice rooms. Easy to find and close to town.
Very well presented, clean and tidy very comfortable room
Clean and tidy, modern decor. Good location. Close to Lower Hutt town centre and close to Petone. Easy to get to from the motorway.
Comfortable stay
Great thanks
Pleasant neighbourhood and little traffic noise. Also enjoyed the friendliness of the owners and staff.
Nothing because I was in and out very quickly. Nothing else to add
Clean and serviceable, a bit dated. Friendly staff.
Was an ok place - Clean and tidy and basic amenities
Huge spacious apartment, decor was a bit tired but it was very clean and the staff were lovely!
Loved the hospitality the place was clean and fresh,
Super conviniently location & a good night's rest
Last minute accommodation option we chose Champers as a place to just recuperate and rest during a busy weekend. Room was super clean, warm and welcoming. TV had Sky and all other channels. Kettle provided with milk and complimentary coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Nice comfortable couch also and ironing amenities availble for use. Just a couple of minor touch ups needed: 1. Bed was too bouncy and needed to be a little firm for my liking, otherwise totally functional. 2. Shower pressure was a little weak and the water tap handle was super sensitive, meaning you had to be careful and precise to get the right temp or else be blasted with either hot or cold water. What I loved also was the area is super accessible to motorway, and Petone and Lower Hutt City are 7-10mins either way in by car. Very conviniently placed. We had a very good experience, sleep and rest. Staff were super smiley and welcoming too. Would Definately stay again.
I booked a room and paid but was to late to check in so why take my money and confirm booking
Great shower No sky sport no crockery for own food like muesli
All looks good here. Clean tidy well maintain room
Nice bath and relaxingthere was no microwave, very warm everything else was very good except for the microwave.
Friendly. Very easy to find.............. nothing else.
Friendly staff...good sized room, clean and tidy...👍
Handy access to Lower Hutt and surrounds. Good off street parking.
Nice place great hosts lovely dining at the restaurant and very good experience overall

Was good for 1 night stay. King size bed was comfortable. Room was spacious & clean. Shower door did not fully close, fridge door may need a new seal? Good value for money.
