Not the cleanest but the staff was very accommodating and pleasant
Catamaran was a great stay for my family.
Loved the Hotel decor, the extra large rooms, and the fantastic pool area
Loved the gardens that the hotel has to offer
The catamaran was a very family friendly hotel.
The way it was secluded from all of the activity that surrounded the property. Gave us the opportunityto be a part of the surroundings and then disconnect when we wanted to chill.
The room provided to us had a broken AC/heater unit. Despite notifying the staff about this issue daily, no action was taken. As a result, both my partner and I fell ill. It wasn’t until much later that we were offered a room change, but by then, we had to extend our stay just to recover. To add insult to injury, we were charged half a day’s rate for merely a 2-hour checkout delay. Completely unacceptable!
A familiar dependable favorite over the decades
Always look forward to our visit at Catamaran. We will be back
Easy access to beaches, entertainment, and dining.
Staff was friendly and check in went smoothly. Parking was easy. Layout of room was somewhat inconvenient as bed was butted up against the wall. Wall paper was peeling rooms could, use a c good renovation. We were staying in the tower. Ground wet well kept and very tropical. I wouldn’t recommend this location to anyone.
No matter what you pay for the room, expect an extra $100 per day with resort fees/parking, tax. Having said that, I would absolutely stay here again. The staff is very friendly and helpful - which is a sign that they are treated well by management! Which is HUGE in my book. The rooms were fine, the location excellent, the grounds beautiful. I can't wait to go back! Especially to see "Arlow" - the resort cat!!
No hot water, turn the fuaset all the way to the hot direction and just warm water . Drainage was bad.water in the bathroom faucet and shower would not drain properly. During the one of the busiest time in the years ,elevator was out of service.and I am on the 10th floor.
Thanksgiving on beautiful Mission Bay!
Everything was wonderful. Loved the hotel, location, restaurant! We will be back for sure! (Hopefully though the 2nd elevator gets fixed! It was a long wait , and being on the 9th floor it was a few too many levels to use stairs).
I had stayed at this property 20 years ago and was excited to go back. Unfortunately the hotel is very run down. Part of the hotel was out of hot water, the rooms smelled old and musty and the overall property felt dirty. The worst part is - when checking out, the property charges you a $44 fee per night; this is not mentioned in the total cost when reserving online. This was an unexpected $200 cost.
We liked the location, grounds, staff and facilities overall. The heated pool and free arcade was a big hit for our 9yo and the short walk to the beach boardwalk and restaurants was great. However, the room in the tower was outdated and below the level of quality we expected given the price. Sticky surfaces, questionable carpet cleanliness, broken patio door, barely usable kitchen, broken hot water, broken elevator…more “dorm” feeling than resort.
Everything was great, with the exception of the musty smell in the room. The smell never went away because each and every time you enter the room the musty smell is unmistakably pronounced. However, you’ll get “nose blind” to the smell the longer you are in the room. We were upgraded to the room we were in which looks recently renovated. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The hotel itself and the grounds looked clean and well maintained.
The room was filthy when we arrived. Black handprints all over the bath towels hanging in the shower area and dirty carpet and entry way with food strewn along the sidewalks. The place is tired and the location is good. Not worth the money if you are looking for nice clean accommodations.
Had a little beach at the back of the hotel
Very Beautiful Hotel. The stay was great and convenient.
this is a very nice property with options of the cove and the walkable distance to the beach
Great hotel for family with kids
The property is the perfect location on mission bay, walk to beach or boardwalk. It’s truly a hidden gem!
Beautiful property
It was a tropical atmosphere with smiling staff! Greeted warmly upon arrival. Offered water. Check in was smooth and I stayed in the 700 block of rooms on the ground level. Room was large with comfortable queen beds. Large bath with double sinks and a place to put my stuff. Small table with 2 chairs, double 3 drawer dressers. Very NICE! Outdoor area was beautiful and enjoyed my 3 nights there.
Our tv in the bedroom gave us problems our whole trip. The maids forgot to leave coffee, fresh cups and coffee cups a few times.
very pricey
I loved the location and the scenery. The dining was good, service great, but the room had a bad odor to it. We had to sleep with the glass door to let in fresh air.
I like the atmosphere and view.
It's always wonderful to stay there. My husband Nick Stammerjohn has stayed at your property many times with his kids.
The grounds are amazing and the location can't be beat. We loved the rental service on property for bikes and boats, too. Restaurant was very good. It's the best for being on the bay and close to the ocean.
This is, easily, the worst experience of my life with a hotel. In fairness, I believe it was the app/site inflating the importance; do not believe the reviews. This was the first time I used them, as I was in a bind and needed something in the vicinity. It is a decent MOTEL. The staff is very friendly. Nothing else about the property is worth discussing and the rooms smell like…ammonia. (I am deleting the Hotels.com app immediately)
I didn’t like the coffee machine in suite not working even when they replaced it with new single cup machine- also the heat kept running to fan once temperature level reached which made it cold again Housekeeping forgot to leave lotion and body wash I called and they brought it later
Room facilities a little worn down but otherwise lovely in every way
Great location. Great front desk. Cleaning crew inconsistent. Charging separately for parking is BS!
Maid service came at dinner time one day and not at all the next. Lots of noise from the birds which were housed next door. Assigned to a room with two doubles after booking a king bed room since TV didn’t work in king bedroom. TV went out in our room as well.
I paid $150 pet fee, $200 in resort fees, $35 in self parking. Room was not updated, no regular coffee for the coffee machine and no sugar/creamer. Breakfast not included. Security was called b/c our dog barked minimally and they took a picture of my spouses drivers license and allowed the occupant to harrass him. In total, I paid close to $1000 for one night for a regular room & one balcony view suite room with 1 bed. I will never book here again. It was a disaster and it was my Wedding honeymoon in the area.
A lot more fees up front at the property then I have experienced from other expedia bookings; I wouldn't have minded that but we called 2 days before the booking and even day prior and the lady had ensured us a complimentary upgrade to the bay view king room, We were quite excited but when we got their that was not the case, They had upgraded the guy standing next to us in check in and once we went back after seeing the room they had no record of our upgrade plus they suddenly ran out, Funny buy sucked. We then check the night before check out to see if we can get a late check out since we weren't able to get the room, they said it looked more than likely since there was nobody booking up for the next day even called really early like at 3 AM and they still said the same thing call back around check out time the lady said there was nothing we checked the website and there was a few more of the same rooms on the same exact tower still available I called back the lady at the front as she seemed audibly angry and hung up, besides that Lain at the front desk was really great and helpful even though he couldn't accommodate the things promised to us before
Great spot!
We just loved our stay from beginning to end! Shout out to Randy at the front desk who was so kind and helpful
It was okay, but I would not stay here again. Had some issues with my room and asked to change rooms, my key card deactivating more than once and the service in the restaurant was pretty awful. Good location, but with all the $$ you spend on parking, overpriced food and resort fees, it's not worth it. Would find somewhere else next time
It was nice just the smell when we arrived at the room was very like humid like it had not been aired out . The smell was not pleasant but other than it was good
Family trip paradise
We loved our stay. The location and service was perfect. We will stay again. It was a family trip with 2 kids 9 and 17. Both enjoyed the arcade and walking around looking at things. We all felt safe and comfortable.
Great
Beautiful property, convenient location with lots of walking to good food and shops, loved everything about it!
Great place to stay along Mission Bay . Staff was super helpful . Poolside bar great . Food at Oceania was excellent as well as the service
The grounds are the highlight of the property. The grounds crew were always working on the landscaping and were always so nice. The bay area is beautiful (although the water isn't really clean but it is the bay) The staff were super nice. It's in a very easy area to walk one block to the beach. The kids loved the free video games.
Catamaran San Diego
Amazing stay, very nice
Great Stay!
Staff was amazing. Property was quiet, clean and beautiful.
Go elsewhere.
Other than the location which is nice I have nothing good to say unfortunately. Starting from the rude person the checked us in, through the outdated rooms from the 70’s. All the facilities that are closed, not working, run down or have another issue And ending with the restaurant that the hotel claimed had to be shut down due to a leak but I suspect was closed down due to that would be fixed over night but was never fixed during the following 3 days until we left ( they were shut down for health violations a couple months ago….). Will definitely not come back and suggest you do the same.
Once you are inside the Catamaran it is like being transported to a beautiful tropical garden. The rooms are large and spacious, the view of the bay spectacular, and the staff caring and helpful. However, Pacific Beach does not feel very family friendly and there is not much to do. Unfortunately the Catamaran's restaurants (both the outdoor and inside ones) are very expensive and do not have the type of food that children (and many adults like to eat). In the past Moray's served great bar food (sliders, fries, calamari) that a family could enjoy at a reasonable price. But no longer. This means seeking food in Pacific Beach which does not feel safe after dark.
The restaurant was closed, they had no hot food at all and didn’t let anyone know prior. Bar only took a card due to not having change. They gave 2 towels for a room fitting 5, we had to constantly ask for towels. I will never stay here again.
This hotel is located right on the bay and the exterior of the property is beautiful. Unfortunately, the check-in process was less than acceptable. We arrived early, room was ot ready. The front desk told us they would call us by check-in time 4pm. That call never came through and we didn't end up getting into our room until 4:15pm. No explanation given. The room was outdated, but the worst part was how dirty everything was. Stains on the walls, sticky light switches, etc. While the location is great, I doubt I'll ever stay there again.
Downside was the noise from the street and surrounding area. Location is excellent and facility clean with excellent service.
Was nice. We got a suite facing the bay. Parking is very pricey though if you have more than one car.
Kid friendly and close to the beach!
The Lobby is beautiful and staff make check in easy and are so friendly.
My wife and I felt as if we were reminded of the vibe of Hawaii when we walked in the lobby!! The atmosphere is amazing and the staff was really friendly. if we come back to San Diego we will consider staying at the Catamaran.
Nice place to stay.
Excellent
The location was excellent the staff super helpful lots to do around there, quite busy at weekends.
Staff were friendly. Accommodations clean and restaurant Oceana food was very good.
We absolutely love this property. It is really nice. It is older and outdated however, still in a very nice location and you are still treated like five star guests.
We absolutely love this property and we will continue to stay there. However, the rooms do need updating and the prices for the Sunday brunch are over the top expensive.
We absolutely love this property. The location, accommodations and service are amazing. The only thing that it lacks is that the rooms need updating and the prices for the Sunday brunch are over the top expensive, otherwise this location gives us a great feeling and we rate it five stars.
?
I liked the gardens and Koi pond! The T Restaurant was very nice along with the view- Disappointed that the coffee places was closed by 2 pm and that we did not receive maid service. We were gone most of the day and did NOT have our do not disturb sign in the door. We were able to get extra face cloth and coffee for the next day. We stayed two nights. We have stayed at the Bahia a few times but preferred the Catamaran.
Great costumer service, had a wonderful experience and love the access to the beach!
Great place!
So close to both mission bay and pacific beach. A beautiful resort. Great restaurant and a cafe., super warm pool and friendly staff.
Great location. Fun style with the jungle theme and birds
Rooms need updating The pool is wonderful Location is amazing
Restaurant service could be better
Excellent hotel
Great tropical hotel. Nice pool and bay beach.
You won’t stay here for the rooms…
I wasn’t too fond about staying in the tower; seemed like a late 80’s apartment…including the smell. Partial ocean view room and they weren’t kidding about the partial. If I were to stay here again, it would be the ocean front room/patio or none. It was a nice resort overall with a restaurant and lots of activities. Service was good and friendly throughout. Pool was nice and clean and towels and chairs were plenty for all.
In a great area, lots of things to do and places to see in walking distance
The property was pretty old. A lot of the functionality of the hotel were not working.
Great Stay
Great location and lots to do. Right on Mission Bay and 1 block from Pacific Beach. Resort had a great pool and hot tub and 2 restaurants and a coffee bar. Will be returning soon!!
We absolutely loved our bay view room!!! We wish our room had a small couch. It would have made it more inviting rather than another desk chair. My room was spacious enough for one. For a deluxe room we didn’t have a microwave. Our fourth day we didn’t have any hot water.
The staff was very helpful and accommodating.
Enjoyed all the family friendly activities . Had a great resort feel. Housekeeping was inconsistent. They would come to your room daily but what was done /refreshed was variable.
Nice location. The king suite in the tower was disappointing for the price paid. Great view, but overall old room that needs updating. One of the patio doors was inoperable. The manager was supposed to call me about it and never did. Won’t be back again.
For the price charged, plus all the add-ons, Catamaran is getting a bit long in the tooth. TV had to be rebooted continually, toilet plugged up and attributed to old cast iron piping and constant problem in the tower, patio screen door wouldn’t work, etc. Thoroughly enjoy the location and ambiance, and have been coming there for years, but this visit was a bit of a disappointment - particularly at the price point.
The staff was lovely. The birds are so fun. All the wild life feels magical for the kids. My main complaint was the overall age and condition of the buildings. They were clean, but ceiling tiles are stained and hallways have a smell. I would still stay here again if I had kids with. The location is great for mission beach activities. But if it were just adults I’d want something different.
Worst hotel stay ever with the most uncomfortable beds and pillows... if you like screaming babies 24/7 then this is your place otherwise run from this place - not worth it if it was free...
Very accommodating, very clean. The property grounds are beautiful and your a walk away from the ocean.
This is a very beautiful hotel that is close to both the ocean and bay. Highly recommend.
We stayed 4 nights (M-Th) and enjoyed this property very much. We stayed in a Bay-view room in the tower, which also had an Ocean view. The room was very clean and the property itself was clean and well-maintained. The staff was extremely friendly and courteous. We also did the Sunset Luau, which was a bit pricey for my taste, but it was a lot of fun. If I had to nitpick something, I wish the pool opened sooner than 9am because I tend to be an early riser and coming from the East Coast, I was an even earlier riser. Overall, I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel.
My first impression upon arriving was to view the hotel stars on Trip Advisor as I felt this couldn’t possibly be a 4 star.. no way. No one assisted me with my heavy luggage. The hotel is decorated in Polynesian style but VERY outdated. The rooms have popcorn ceiling too and the carpet in the halls are stained. The patio door was broken but could be jammed into place to work. It was loud and kids EVERYWHERE. There were dirty towels in our bathroom but housekeeping came promo and replaced them. Not too many options for dining. The bay is very beautiful and well kept. All the staff were very polite, but the service at the restaurant was not very good. Our server didn’t even realize she had our table after being seated with a menu for 30 minutes. Nor did she try to make it right; however another server was very kind and offended us a slice of cheesecake and ice cream which was delicious! I just didn’t like the way the hotel looked . I travel a lot and was quite surprised that San Diego of all places would call this a 4-star! It’s truly a 3-star. These aren’t much activities either. I’d likely not stay again if I truly want a 4-star experience.
Great location with friendly staff.
Great location - amazing scenic grounds - Rooms ok
Amazing location and grounds. If you are looking for newly remodeled rooms, this is not the place....very dated. But if you want a perfect location between the beach (5 min walk) and the Bay (outside your door) this is it. We would have loved quicker service in the dining areas (Good service, not enough help in the kitchen) and fancy rooms, but what we wanted was to be able to walk to the beach and roll out of our rooms onto the bay sand, and it could not have been more convenient. The grounds are amazing, you feel like you're in Hawaii. Birds, ponds, fish, waterfalls, palm trees all around, really spectacular.
Probably wont be back
This property is amazing because it is on the beach and kids can play in the bay all day. Our problem was our room. The room definitely could use some updating but they are pretty big for a hotel room. Our bathroom toliet had poop stuck in the hinges and up u der the lid! It was absolutely disgusting. Our bathroom also smelled of urine so badly. It was like someone peed all over and it was never cleaned, which is probably exactly what happened. There was also black hair on the towels that is just gross. I honestly dont know if I would stay again considering how expensive it is and the disgusting room.
Everything was awesome! Love this hotel
Randy was awesome
Wonderful place for family vacation!
Great location, easily walkable to all the great things MIssion and Pacific Beaches have to offer. Beautiful location overlooking Mission Bay and a very short walk to Pacific Beach.
Good
Great service!
It was a wonderful experience. The staff were kind and helpful and the property was beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed the spa treatment and all of the nearby activities.
